Mar 6, 2009I have an HP Elitebook 6390P; I remember seeing for the Thinkpads someone could remove the CDROm Drive and put a hard drive into this slot and then put into the cdrom drive.

Dell :: Two Dead Pixels
Aug 2, 2009So this weekend I finally have some time to play around with my shiny new Inspiron 1545, and during Vista restarting I found 2 dead pixels on my LCD screen. I called tech support, and they said that because I don't have on-site service I will have to send the p.o.s. through a courier to their depot in Newmarket to replace the whole screen, which will take 10 days.
Naturally I'm nervous that they will screw something up or that the system will get damaged during shipping or whatnot, leading to even further delays.
I tried telling them that I shouldn't have to wait for 10 days due to the nature of my work and the fact this is a business plan and I want them to make an exception and send a tech here to fix it. After all, this system is only 2 days old. They want me to purchase the on-site warranty for $200 for them to send someone out OR pay $60 for each incident.
Is there any recourse I can take, perhaps escalate it to a manager who may make an exception?
They tried telling me that even for the 2 pixel they were making an exception as the "law" says that up to 5 deal pixels is fine. What "law" are they referring to exactly? Haha... Brutal. Last time I buy a Dell that's for sure. Is there any re-course, such as escalating it to a manager?

Jan 15, 2008I really hate getting systems with dead pixels. A lot of manuafacturers allow for minimum dead pixels for their quality control which I think is bunch of crap. Everyone should get 100% quality with their LCD screens.

Apr 29, 2010Finally got my 1810T today and was disappointed to find that it had no less than six dead and stuck pixels littered around the screen.
I have wiped the screen with a microfiber cloth and have used a compressed air duster to make sure.
Just upset that I spent $$$ for this thing and it comes to me with so many dead and stuck pixels.
What are everyone's experience(s) regarding dead and stuck pixels on these units?

Sep 22, 2009I have a FW-390J and yesterday I have noticed a dead pixel appeared at the lower left corner, that is new and was not there before..
This morning I found another dead pixel very near to the first one and if I focus enough I can see a couple of more fainted dots..
I feel a bit frustrated and disappointed. I had the same problem with a my previous Toshiba A300 which I replaced with this model

May 19, 2010My trusty old Vostro 1400 starting giving me lcd troubles. I had a couple of dead pixels in the start but last 2 months it doubled to more than 10!
Now I checked the status of my Vostro and Im still covered by dells 3 year warranty!
Called up dell and they send me a

LP141WX1
Now the the original LCD on the vostro was a SEC3157.
Just wondering how good this new panel would be? Any thoughts on this?
Dell Inspiron 1545 :: Screen Showing Green Patches - Dead Pixels
Apr 22, 2013Recently my Dell Inspiron 1545 screen is showing green patches. They are only increasing day by day and after rubbing the screen they disappear for some time before appearing again. I tried some software solutions like pixelhealer etc but no use.
Is there any other way to eliminate dead pixels? How much the hardware replacement will cost ?

Jan 5, 2009I have tried many times and with many methods to fix the pixels, but I am only able to fix it one-by-one, pixel-by-pixel. Is there any way around this? (and BTW its my assigned school computer and is out of warranty)

Dec 1, 2009Ive bought a 2nd hand M1710 laptop - yeah I know - buyer beware.
Ive had it a few months, and Ive now noticed that the desktop has
Red Pixels on the screen.
They are not dead pixels, as they move about, disappear and reappear.
I dont know if this laptop has a warranty or not, or even if it did
if it would apply.
Ive read elsewhere about sometimes these red pixels can be caused by
a faulty LCD ribbon cable.
Ive taken the lid apart - carefully - following the service manual.
I did find that the grounding cable screw had no head, so the grounding
cable, which is part of the lcd ribbon cable wasnt connecting properly
to the lid chassis. I fixed that with another screw .....
Dell :: Dead Screen Or Dead Video Card
Mar 29, 2008I am at my wits end with my e1705. I had a sudden meltdown about 2 weeks ago... screen went scrambled, BSOD,etc...
Performed diagnostic, memory on video card came back as bad. Replaced with new card (from Dell), reinstalled OS, completely reinstalled nVidea drivers from Dell (Used driver cleaner too)...
Everything went smooth for a couple hours after this was completed yesterday (full diagnostic showed no errors), but after booting up today, after about 5 or 10 minutes of use screen freezes and turns either solid cyan or black... a small pattern of thin lines appears also.
Dell :: D620 Display Pixels Going Crazy
Mar 10, 2009I picked up a dell D620 notebook second hand. I did a fresh install of the OS, installed and updated all drivers. I noticed there was some pixels that were going crazy.
There would be a line across the start bar, and a block of miscolored pixels on the bootup screen. If I booted into safe mode, they would not be there. Also, when the notebook is hooked to an external display, they will show on the laptop, but not on the external LCD

May 28, 2010My Vaio is about 6 months old and is awesome (aside from the really super loud fan) and now it started to display red flashing pixels-mostly where black or dark colours should appear. May 15, 2009Yesterday updated the BIOS to F.09 today the system will not boot, i get no BIOS screen, the screen just light up so i know it has power but just sits there and does nothing, no HDD access or anything.
This is now the second DV2 that i have had, looks like it might have to go back again. might swap to a DV3 this time, anyone else had issues with the DV2

Mar 25, 2009The 500GB HD in my DV7t just died. It's definitely dead, as I pulled it out and tested it in a caddy. When the computer goes to initialize the drive, it gets an error in the I/O device. I still believe I'm under my one year warranty from HP. Does it cover dead harddrives? And if so, do they require that I send in the dead drive? I work for a small business, though my boss has a rather strict data policy - all broken, dead, unused or outdated drives are to be turned into them for proper destruction prior to sale, refurbishment or replacement. Even when we send our laptops off for repairs, there are 'stock' harddrives we place in them that have never had sensitive company data on them. A bit paranoid, definitely, but it's company policy.

Nov 12, 2009A friend of my g/f gave me her computer to fix. She said she took it to Best Buy and they said her HD is messed up. Now, if I order a new drive and the restore disks from HP, will that fix this issue? She is not worred about losing any data. Is my thinking correct? Install new HD, put in restore disks, start it up and follow the directions.

If I hold the power on button nothing happens. The Ac adapter is still working & I've tried taking out the battery, but that didn't help.

Aug 7, 2009I have an HP dv5t which I purchased new last October. A couple of weeks ago, my HD got fried (think it overheated). HP sent me a new HD, and I had a technician install it for me. I never made recovery disks as instructed by HP (was gonna get around to it; who knew the HD would die in 9 mos?). The tech ended up installing Vista Ultimate Lite instead, which I thought was okay b/c there's no bloatware that way. However, I miss a lot of the elements of the Aero environment, particularly Windows DVD Maker.
I have two questions:
1. Can I get backup CDs from HP to reinstall Vista Home Premium (which is what my lappie was shipped with)? Would doing so reinstall the bloatware?
2. Is there a way to tweak Vista Ultimate Lite so I can have the standard GUI w/o putting bloatware back in my system? The environment in Ultimate Lite reminds me too much of XP (clunky-looking windows, fonts are too large, etc).
HP/Compaq :: Dv6000 Dead Wireless
Apr 10, 2009So my dv6000 has finally suffered the death of the wireless adapter. I suppose the motherboard is next to go. It is beyond even the extended warranty for this problem by a couple of months.
Should I try to get HP to fix it under the extended warranty, or should I just forget it?
In either case I'll never buy another HP computer again.
HP/Compaq :: HP DM3 Completely Dead After 1 Month
Dec 29, 2009I was a happy DM3-1030US customer for about a month until this morning when an incredibly strange and frustrating problem has rendered the laptop useless.
Last night when I finished using the PC I left it disconnected from the charger so it naturally ran out of juice and turned itself off.
This morning I plugged it back in and slid the power switch, the fans turned on power light lit up (but not caps lock and Wi-Fi light is orange) but the screen is completely black. The fans remain spinning, computer is clearly receiving power and turned on but nothing happens at all. I've tried leaving it in that state for 30+ minutes to no avail.
I tried removing the battery for 20+ minutes then trying again to no avail. Most frightening of all I completely removed the power and turned on the PC via direct AC power with exactly the same result. This leads me to believe something has completely failed at a hardware level in this machine. Has anyone else experienced anything at all like this?
I'm very dissapointed that such an issue is occuring with a brand new machine like this. I've always thought the price I paid (around $500 from staples with multiple rebates) was too good to be true and now that appears to be the case. Unless HP is extremely graceful in their resolution of this matter I don't see myself purchasing another product from them again, which is a shame since I've purchased multiple laptops as well as my 30" monitor from them in the past. I was even considering purchasing the new Envy 14 when it's released.
HP/Compaq :: DEAD DV6103nrDV6000 Series
Aug 22, 2009I took a dead HP DV6103nr. I am trying to diagnose if its the motherboard or something else.
- The notebook is completely dead, no lights, won't power on.
- I get 18.9 volts from the end of the AC adapter power tip where it plugs in.
- I have completely disassembled the notebook. I get 18.9 volts through the USB/Power Jack board, which is separate on this notebook, all the way to the motherboard.
- When I disconnect the USB/power jack board from the MB, and plug in the AC adapter, the blue light on the USB/power jack lights. As soon as I connect it to MB, lights out.
Would this indicate replacing the MB?

I don't know if I should go for a new battery or new cells?
Also, how do I open the battery the easiest way? I'd like to see if someone else have done it before I do, I guess there's a lot of glue in it that makes it difficult to open.
HP/Compaq :: Nx9600- Dead Battery
Feb 24, 2010I have a Compaq nx9600 with a dead battery. I popped it open to find sony SF US18650GR batteries all lined up in a row within.
Further research finds 3.7V 2200mAh batteries out there from 6-8 dollars and I need 12 of them... Which means that it wouldnt be cost effective for me to fix the darn things.
I did find 3.7V 2400mAh for 99 cents each and was wondering if any of you might know whether I could use these batteries with a higher milliamp?

Feb 5, 2009Anyone hear of a rogue black hole? Goes around the galaxies suckin up crap anywhere, ya well I have a rogue dead pixel. I've had it for a long time, just above the vista start button, but a few weeks ago it moved a centimeter down and it lasted for about a week or so and now i noticed it move like a half cm to the left.
