how I could get the latest ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 drivers? I tried the official HP site, however whenever I clicked the download link it doesn't connect (nothing happens and then it times out). Any direct links? I have Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.
View 6 RepliesI've got HP dv7-2043cl laptop. I want to find out what max GPU temp do you guys get, when you put stress on the graphics card. I am interested only in DV7-2xxx series with Ati Mobility 4650. Mine is around 46-48 when idle. Temp goes up to 70-74 in around three minutes when I run the Fur Mark stability test (1600x900, MSAA 8x, post processing and xtreme burning turned on). Clocks are at stock frequencies.
I wouldn't care about the temperature (it is not actually that high), but I have a problem. The computer just turns off when I play some games. For instance, if I play Fallout 3 at ultra settings (1600x900, 8x msaa, hdr), the computer powers off after a couple of minutes. Same thing with Crysis Warhead at high setting (1280x720, no msaa), even Half-Life 2 at max settings! When I lower the resolution in Fallout 3 to 1280x720 and MSAA to 4x, everything seems to be fine. Same thing with Half-Life 2. No similar luck with Crysis though. Looks like Crysis utilizes every single bit out of the GPU in any case.

it comes with windows 7 home prem but i need a driver for windows xp pro i didnt find that driver from ATI web site even on the net and all other drivers for it to windows xp

Just got my new FW CTO in the mail today and am loving it. I've spent some time downloading Windows Updates (I ordered Vista Business 64 with Fresh Start) and have been attempting to see if there are updated drivers for the HD 4650 1GB card that I have.
The version I have right now is: 8.583.2-090302a-076759C-Sony
Using Catalyst's "Update Driver" link (essentially a link to AMD's website) I was surprised to not see ANY Mobility HD 3000 or 4000 series drivers at all. Are there newer drivers than the ones that shipped with my laptop? If so, where can I download them?
Also, is it really very important to partition your drives?
Lastly, any chance that ArmaII will run on this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the interest of maximum (safe) performance, I will test both generic ATI drivers and official Dell drivers with real-world benchmarks (probably mostly video games).
I will test Dell's official ATI driver, the generic ATI 10.4 driver, and any beta driver available from ATI's website. I will not be testing third party drivers.
ATI recommends that Dell laptop users use the Dell drivers.
Dell recommends that Dell laptop users use the Dell drivers.
Which is actually better? We're going to find out.
The test should take place within a week. Right now I need to find a few games that can produce consistent results (i.e. number of fps when watching a pre-recorded demo). Any ideas or requests for games to use? (free game demos, please)
I will be testing Resident Evil 5 benchmark demo, set in fixed mode, DX10, default settings. It gives an average fps reading.
I might also test Quake Live (I think it has a good timedemo test, need to find out) and Starcraft II beta if I can find a way to average its fps reading (does FRAPS do this?).
When I find 3 total tests that I can perform, I will begin testing.

Test Results: The Dell driver's performance is equal to the performance of ATI 10.4 driver. The Dell driver offers additional features such as the HDMI/DP Audio driver and AVIVO.

I've been wondering if anyone with the GPU HD 4650 could post your temperatures. I'm looking into a 2177, with P7550 and HD4650. But searching about the temperatures, I've encountered some people with problems (on older models...)

Also, does the keyboard, or the place where your wrist "sits" gets hot?
I'm really worried about the temperatures because my actual notebook (which has the same HD4650, but a little bit underclocked) has temperature issues. I can't even run Crysis on full settings that it will just go all black and I have to force the shutdown.

View 10 Replies View Relatedjust got a DV6 with 4650 GPU. Usually I use HW monitor and the like but I notice HW monitor does not pick up the temp for the GPU. I have tried using the AMD tool and Speed fan, neither see the GPU, GPUz sees the GPU and gives me temperature information which as far as I can see is wrong (says that the GPU is only 42 degrees under full load and never changes from between 37-42 degrees). So does any one out there have a temperature monitoring utility that will WORK with an ATI 4650 and give some representation of what its temp is?

Actually there are no HD series cards at all, only the older x1900, etc.. So do the HD series mobility radeons use the normal radeon drivers?

There's artifacting everywhere. Little pink boxes appear even when I'm mousing over things in the file explorer, and when I opened up the catalyst control center (and it shows the two 3D scenes for comparison) there was artifacting like crazy!
I tried uninstalling the drivers, but the pink boxes still continue to spawn in random places on the screen. Then I went to ATI's website but apparently they don't hand out drivers for the mobility 4650... so I had to go to HP's website and get the same stuff I had before. Nothing solved...
Is there a huge difference between the mobile cards, Radeon X300 and Radeon 9700? Which is the better performer for games and graphics heavy apps?

First official, completely top to bottom support for all mobility cards (in the specified range of course) will come out with 10.3. What they didn't say that SOME mobility cards will be already supported with 10.2 and our " Dell (Studio XPS 16 Mobility Radeon HD 4670)" is on that list.
This was posted in another thread, but this wasn't the focus. They also have beta 10.3s...but I thought it was neat that official 10.2 WHQL certified drivers supported our card ....
idea to go check out what HP has changed in their laptops recently. Well i looked at the dv5z and behold HP has put in a 512mb radeon 3650. If they can do this for the dv7z i will be saying goodbye to my dv7t.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just got my dv6-1131ea, one of the reasons was so I could have better gaming ability with the Radeon card, now I'm playing the Sims 3 and all I get is the following message when I start it up:
"We strongly recommend that you update your video driver"
Which is all well and good but I have the latest driver, there is nothing new on the HP site, or via HP Update, or Windows Update. If I try and install the latest catalyst package it tells me that I already have the most up to date driver.
The game is pretty choppy even at low settings, I have expected it to be much smoother than it actually has been, It's just not smooth and when I scroll around I get choppyness, I'm guessing it's to do with the video drivers but how the hell can I update them when I already have the latest?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm looking my XPS 1640 using GPU-Z today, and I'm really confused about the GPU code. It reads out M96, which should be mobility radeon 4650 according to this amd website:

A right mobility 4670 should have a gpu code M96-XT. The wired thing is that the rest things, gpu clock, memory clock, device id are all right.
Just for the concern, did dell give me an overclocked 4650 instead of 4670 which it should have give me?
I have purchased a mobility hd 4650 from an Acer spare parts source and intend to replace my 8600m GT with it.
The order has been shipped and will hopefully arrive within 2 weeks.
Based on this thread (5920G Upgraded To...Radeon HD 4650?!) I should be able to simply install the card physically (I've disassembled this laptop for a processor upgrade before) and then just throw on the drivers (the device comes with the Acer vBIOS preloaded)..................................

View 3 Replies View RelatedI ordered a FW490 CTO w/ P8700, 4650 1GB, 4GB RAM, Vista 64, etc. Anyways, I was a little disappointed with how well it ran Americas Army 3. I downloaded and ran GPUZ, and I got some interesting results... It says that my 4650 uses GDDR3 memory, which is apparently the best setup for the card, but it also reports that my clock speed is 450 MHz, and my memory clock speed is 600 MHz. From everything I have gathered, that is below what most 4650 Mobilitys are at... what gives? What are the speeds of everyone elses 4650?
