Acer Aspire V5-431P :: After Clean Install Laptop Screen Is Buzzy And Flickering
Feb 11, 2015This afternoon I decided to do a clean install of windows 8.1 on my Acer Aspire v5-431P. Everything went well and it booted up as it should do. After completing the windows setup procedure, I went on to reinstall all the drivers. Everything was still fine. When I was downloading them from the Acer website I heard the sound a windows computer makes when a device is plugged in or out. The screen went off and on and the image was blurry and flickering. Like it's covered in water. I also see everything double. But very vague.
I tried to reboot the laptop, took out the battery, plugged it in and out of the power source etc. The problem occurs after the windows login screen. The acer bios logo and the windows startup logo are perfectly fine but after that it's cr*p. At this point I was certain the screen itself was perfectly fine so I tried testing is on my tv using and HDMI cable. Worked perfectly.
The last thing I tried was reinstalling windows but the same happened. After 5 minutes of usage the screen goes ham again.

Jan 2, 2009I cleaned my over-1-year old DV6563 laptop since the heat sink was filled with dust inside. Anyways, I got everything back together, but unfortunally the inverter lamp on my monitor went dead (I got a replacement off Ebay and the monitor works again).
However I have a slight issue. Every time I close down the laptop lid, the screen stays on (it doesn't turn off the screen). I even set windows to go into stand-by when the lid is closed and it does not turn off the screen or go into stand-by (unless I press Fn+Sleep).
I even installed Windows XP to see if it was a Vista issue...however the problem still exists. I do have the lastest Nvidia drivers too.

Feb 7, 2009i broke my lcd screen a few days ago and i got a replacement from ebay. i installed it but i can see the image on my screen but it is verrry dim. there's no back light. so i put the old screen and turned it on and the back light is very bright but the lcd is cracked and messed up. i don't understand how could that be that the new screen is dim and the old one still is bright but messed up.

But most important. I want to make a backup of the Out-of-the box state. Then I want to make another type of backup so that I can selectively uninstall items and selectively bring them back from the backup if I need them. How would I do that?

Sony :: After A Clean Install On A AW 21s/b Laptop
Apr 30, 2009my sytem setup after a clean install of vista home premium.
I think I loaded all the driver ect after the clean install as per the instruction in a post on this site, I then istalled SP1 on.
My first question is that when I boot up the system it boots fine to the desktop but then the HD disk light stays on for a good few minuets with CPU usaged in the 3%-10% ranged will this is going on, after that the HD light just flikers constantly......is this right?
2 Should I load Sony update prgram and run it and Windows update?
3 I have not loaded any Sony stuff so no keys like eject or BluRay etc work I cant seem to find what drivers are need and I dont wont to load all sorts of stuff on as that would defeat the perpuse of a clean install. I have only 50 processor runing after booting up
I ahve a few other thing i like to ask but I will leave that for another post as I think thats enough question for now!

Mar 9, 2009I broke the hinge of the laptop's lcd. I replace the hinge, there was a cable that was broken, I realize that cable was not related to the lcd since it was connect to the wireless network chip.
I made sure all the lcd cable are plug in the laptop motherboard.
On the back of the lcd, there was white tape and it said do not touch, I accidentally touch this by mistake. I don't know if this is really serious.
Now, the laptop does not have any picture, but the light is on, the lcd has a grayish color, its like its about to load, but no image comes up.
This issue occurred during the hinge breaking.
I hope I didn't break the lcd.
Model is dv2037us.
The laptop is fine if I hook it up to a monitor via vga port.

Feb 8, 2010screens that flickered every time they moved their monitor. My issue is very weird. When I first turn my computer on or wake it up the screen seems like it takes forever to come on. If you wiggle the monitor it will pop up and then go out again until you find the right spot. Now at this point I would think it is a pinched cable but as the computer warms up the problem completely goes away. I can move the monitor all around and have no problems whatsoever. This is something I can deal with but would like to know what the problem is. It is a DV9000 series laptop that is about 2 years old w/ windows 7. I just ordered a new battery for it because "it" told me I needed a new one. Wondering if it is a power issue or what.

Jan 23, 2009i have been having a problem for the past few months on my hp dv2416 laptop. atleast a few times per day, the screen gets completely jumbled, the laptop freezes, and i must restart.
i've attached some pictures of what the screen looks like after the jumble for clarification. it basically just jumbles up whatever is on the screen at that moment, and then freezes it.

Dec 2, 2009I recently had an HDX16 and tried out a DM3, but ended up returning the DM3 because I simply wanted a bigger and more powerful setup. Well, I had gone through 3 previous HDX16s because of various issues. Now I get one of the last ones they made (I got it about a week ago but was out of town for Thanksgiving.) Anyways, there's a huge crack in the plastic on the long roundish bar that connects the screen to the laptop. I don't know what to do. I can call, but they can't even send out another replacement, as the 16 doesn't exist anymore. To me the DV6/7/8 series isn't even comparable in my mind. What does everyone think I should do? I get the feeling they'll offer me say $50 which isn't worth the crack. I mean to me $200 is about where I'd say I'd be okay. But even then, I'll use it every day and think of the crack.....

May 3, 2010I have just bought my G62 laptop and have pretty much no complaint except the backspace's bounce seems to be a bit off and a little loud. However, I seem to notice this weird dimming issue when I set my laptop to either Power Saver or HP Recommended mode. When I go from the internet browser to the desktop and wait like 3 seconds, the screen seem to dim just a tiny bit. Sometimes it dims twice. Most noticeable when using the lowest brightness level. It's really bothering me, does anybody know what it is? It's not the auto-dim feature, because it dims in like 3 second. It just flickers a little bit.
Also, when I move a browser or window up and down, I can see this fuzziness on the outline of the window, including the outline of the search bar. I updated the display adapters, I have Intel HD Graphics display adapters.

Aug 4, 2012I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. The Display does not appear to be working. When I turn on the laptop the display remains black. No boot up screen, nothing. I can't go into the bios because I have no screen. The screen remains black. The harddrive appears to be working and all other functions appear to be working but I am not sure because I have no screen.
Is this a known issue with the Compaq Presario CQ60?

Aug 26, 2009I am trying to repair a ZD7000 series laptop. The initial problem was that it had a broken AC Jack. I got a new AC jack and soldered that in. While I was at it, I also got a 3.2GHz P4 out of another laptop to replace the one that was in this laptop.
Now the laptop does not pass the boot screen. It will just display the HP splash page, then reboot. No BIOS beeps. It does this on both AC power and battery.
I have tried different ram as well, with no luck.

Mar 7, 2010This is the only Vaio I've owned, but compared to other laptops this screen is very hard to clean without leaving streaks. I've tried the usual cleaners and no matter what cloth I used or how thoroughly I wipe it off, there are ugly streaks.

I format my hard-drive (SSD), I had Windows 7 installed on it.
I removed the harddrive from my laptop.I attached my drive to an USB adapter and removed the partitions on the drive with "Create and format hard disk partitions" on another PC.Put the hard-drive back in the laptop.Tried again and the installation works smoothly!

Dell Inspiron 1525 :: Screen Won't Turn On And System Fails After Internal Clean Out
Jan 14, 2015We have a Dell Inspiron 1525. It has been having overheating problems for a while, so tonight I opened it up, removed the heatsink, cleaned out the clogged up fan and cleaned/replaced the thermal paste on the CPU. While taking off the heatsink, the thermal pad that was on the GPU tore. I didn't have another pad handy, so I used (non-conductive) thermal paste on that as well. Also, while I had the heatsink out, I inspected the CPU and found that one of the corner pins was actually bent outward (yes, it came from the factory that way!), so I (very carefully) straightened it before reseating the CPU.
Now, when I try to start the computer the screen stays completely blank (no Dell logo, no command lines, nothing), the HD and disc drives spin, and after a few seconds the entire system dies...
I have tried some of the solutions (unplug power, hold pwr button 30 sec, plug in power, and boot; remove/swap the memory) but so far nothing has worked.
What could the problem be? Could switching from a thermal pad to thermal paste on the GPU cause this? Or straightening the bent CPU pin? Could it have been intentionally bent to work properly? I've certainly never heard of such a thing...

I tried to do a clean install. Restarted, pressed f11, did recover option of HP (not windows). But the DAMN thing did not ask me about installing the software, IT JUST INSTALLED IT!
How can I clean install it? I want it ultra-clean.

Jan 6, 2009I just got one of these the other day and in order to remove all the bloatware, update to SP1 and more, I went and installed a clean Vista, even backing and restoring the activation (as the thread about using ABR says).

After this, I download every single driver from the HP support page and went through installing them (of couse, the latest version of each and even other bloatware such as help files, wireless assistant, etc.). The thing is that, after everything was installed, I was still having a "yellow unknow device" in the device manager. After much thinking, I guessed that what was missing were the QuickLaunch buttons, because none of the QuickPlay buttons in the keyboard work, neither the "eject" button for the optical drive. But that QuickLaunch wasn't listed in HP drivers. All there was is a Quick Launch Security Update, but not the actual drivers!
After much searching without hope, I tried one last thing: to let windows install those drivers by searching in Windows Update. Amazingly it worked and they were installed as, efectively, the Quick Launch Buttons! But the problem is that those still don't work! The volume mute, slider, treble and bass work (but make no sound when touched, even though they are activated in the Control Panel - Quick Touch), but the QuickPlay, DVD, TV and Eject still don't work!.........

Apr 10, 2009i purchased a dv7-1170us about a week ago. love it a lot, would like to preserve its looks more than my prior dated black lenovo i beat around. the machine looks great brand new but is a definite smudge magnet. do any of you that really baby your gear use anything special? i'm planning on ordering some monster screen cleaner and keyboard cleaner by a company called 3m, unless you have better screen/key ideas. i'm sure it's well covered but don't see much about what everyone uses on the other surface areas, the top, trackpad, speaker area. anything special? old t shirt and water?

Jan 2, 2009I have my Compaq 6715b for already a year and a few months more. These few months have made been a nightmare with the dying chargers and extreme heating it produces.
I have started using Linux on it and after a successful installation the first original charger died. Some time ago already it started overheating and since the output of the cooler is less than a centimeter away from the power input (great architecture!) I suspect this heat has something to do with the instability of the power supply.
Later on I have tried 3 different universal chargers which all could not properly feed it with energy and in the end I had them replaced with a new original part. Since then I have been working without the battery because it became very unreliable and short-living.
My main concern now is that this new charger is also going to die off because of the heat it is now constantly exposed to. I have tried to take the cooler out, inspired by a friend who has a very similar but newer model of compaq and it turned out impossible to take out the last screw holding the cooler because it is hidden deep under the plastic.
something about the heating problem of the 6715b or even better - how to get the cooler out?

Apr 24, 2009i recently tried to do a clean install of windows vista home premium on my hp laptop, but didn't notice that the windows anytime upgrade disc i had was from my other laptop, which is 32 bit, not the 64 bit i need. Fortunately I burned system recovery discs, but I cannot get them to work. What am I doing wrong here? Ideally I'd like to avoid having to order the disc I need from microsoft if at all possible, but I cannot think of any other options.
