I have received a hp dv6233se from my manager at work, asking me to fix it. When I press the power button, the machine will turn on, all quick play lights will power on, in fact all lights power on. But there is no display. I cannot access the BIOS, there is no P.O.S.T. It will not load from a CD-ROM.
If it is the BIOS, is there a way I can flash a new BIOS from a USB floppy drive? If I need a new motherboard.
I have a compaq presario CQ56 - 154CA laptop. I wiped the hard drive using DriveCleanser in TrueImage Home 2011 and then attempted to load the recovery manager with F11 (or F10 or whatever it is), but now all I get is a red screen with the big Q logo with "press ESC for startup menu" on the bottom left and it just hangs there. I did wipe the Win7 and the System partitions, but not the Recovery partition. I did do a backup of those 3 partitions onto my external drive, but the laptop won't boot from a bootable flash drive I made in True Image, nor any of my boot CD's. And I did set the bios to boot from flash first, then DVD, then hard drive before wiping.
I didn't make the recovery DVD's with Recovery Manager in Win7, but I shouldn't need them since the Recovery partition is still there.
I've read that some Compaq laptops use a utility on the hard drive to load the bios, startup menu etc, so if that is the case with mine then it was thoroughly deleted. If this is the case, is there any way I can get it back on the drive?
If not, I could try to remove the drive and put it in an ext enclosure and hook it up to my desktop. It's possible that I can use the flash drive to use True Image to restore the two wiped partitions. Also, I've read that in this instance, removing the drive and then turning on the laptop may allow the bios to load, but I'd really rather not take out the drive if I don't have to.
I was cleaning my computer and got it back together and had one of the HDD's die. I replaced it with a differany HDD, reformatted and installed the OS (Vista) but when I start it up the BIOS gets about 80% loaded and then next 20 takes 2-3 min. to load. It used to be much faster, within a matter of seconds. I tried reflashing the BIOS but that didn't change anything. Anyone have suggestions? Computer is the Inspiron 1720 in my sig.

I am unable to get into BIOS setup or Diagnostics either. I have checked all connections and removed and refit the CMOS battery - no change to the problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedDell Inspiron 1520, When you turn the laptop on, the BIOS load screen comes up and when the progress bar starts to scroll, it gets about 1/2" over and then the screen goes black. It is not the inverter, because if you take a flashlight, you can not see anything. The Cap Locks and Num Lock button will toggle the LEDs, but there doesn't seem like anything else is going on. I have tried hitting F2 on boot, as well as FCN +D and no luck. It is running A04 for the BIOS. I have also reseated the RAM and the display cable connectors. I have also plugged in a keyboard and monitor to see if that would change anything and it didn't. (I did hit the FCN+F8 after plugging in the monitor.)

My T400 display works at BIOS startup but goes black was soon as Windows 7 starts to load.. Video out put works and I can see an UN Backlit image on the display. Is there some sort back light controller /driver that may be broken.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was using my brother's Compaq Presario V4000 laptop a few days ago, everything seemed fine but when I finished using it, it wouldn't shut down, I didn't know what to do so I just used the power button to turn it off. Then when I tried to turn it on, Windows (XP) would not load, it only gets as far as the screen with the Compaq logo. Between the time the Windows logo appears and the Compaq screen, a message appears that says something like "the computer did not shut down properly" or something to the effect, and it gives me several choices, but whatever choice I make I get taken to the Compaq screen and no further. If I choose safe mode a bunch of gibberish appears all the way down the screen and after a few seconds the screen goes black with the words "Safe Mode" appearing in four corners of the screen, I can move the mouse pointer around but nothing happens.
This laptop is several years old but it's rarely used, I've only been using it the past several months to upload files to my web server so I doubt that it would be a virus or something like that.
i have hp laptop/ vista and am trying to use this 3d chat program but it does not load i dont know why..i didnt have such problem with my other laptops.

there are couple of temperature issues with this lappy ( ambient temp 25-30C):
1. at idle ( just media player or maybe a pdf file open), the cpu temp is at 43C, northbridge always above 50, gpu always above 55.hd also tends to operate at 45-48C. this is inspite of the fact that i am running this thing with no vents blocked ..and in fact the RAM, cmos battery and hd covers removed to allow better air circulation.
2. at normal load ( game like burnout paradise, with utor going on in background), cpu tends to reach 60 C, gpu at 80 C , northbridge at 70C and hd at 60 C.
3. cpu temp never seem to change really. tried using various s/w' like realtemp ( shows 28 C for gpu..which i dont think is feasible). only when i reboot after a high load session, the s/w' show higher temperatures ( and the notebook shows erratic behavior with display artifacts!).
4. the only fan in the machine never appears to speed up or down. i don't have an issue with the noise, as long as it helps this thing run cooler.......
Shut it off one day and it wont load windows the next day. I get to the HP logo on start up and then the screen goes blank. After about 5 mins, the HP logo come back up again indicating the system is stuck in a restart loop. I cant get it to enter safe mode. I have removed the battery and held down the power button for up to 60 secs. No go. By hitting the escape button while the HP logo comes up, i was able to get to a limited menu where you can check memory and supposedly the hard drive. Ran through all that. No go. Removed CMOS battery for 5 minutes. No go. About the only thing i have not done yet is reseat the memory. I'll try that soon. From experience, am i looking at possibly a dead HD or is this sounding like a mobo issue?

I somehow messed up my Windows 7 installation and get a BSOD every time I try to boot into Win7 or even safe mode from the hard drive.
However, what I can NOT figure out is how to EJECT the disc in the drive.
I can get to a command prompt via the Startup Repair advanced options, but there doesn't appear to be a command to eject in the disc.
Is there a keyboard combination I can press at power on to eject the disc?

On my desktop I use "dtemp", to show the harddrive temp in the sys tray, but dtemp cant read the hdd temp on my HP
And an another program for showing the cpu load or/and cpu clock in the sys tray..? tried NHC 2 pre 06, but it hangs when I go to settings to configure the program..
I've run into an issue that has stricken every single laptop, regardless of OS, that I've ran that has an intel 4965N WiFi card. Dell Latitudes, Inspirons, Acers, HPs, Lenovos, Toshibas, Gateway, Sony, XP, Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7, 32 bit, 64 bit.
Transfers of large files to my NAS, such as DVD ISOs, system images, or VMware images, will result in a failed transfer 100% of the time.
The issue does not occur with Broadcom or Atheros cards, or intel cards such as the the 2915ABG, 2200BG, 5100N, 5300N, 5350N. Just the 4965N.
I have an intel 5100N card I bought for a friend to use in a laptop, but he opted to use a Broadcom card that was supported in OSX. I'd like to use it in the HP to fix this issue, but unfortunately, HP's current whitelisting of WiFi cards prevents me from doing so. find a BIOS that will let me use my 5100N?
I have an m1710 laptop. A few days ago when I wanted power it up it would start loading, but nothing would show on the monitor and the LED indicators near the media button would light up.
The first one from the left would stay on and next two would flash together while the last two are off. I tried hoilding down FN key when loading so I can load dell diagnostics but it won't do that. Tried to hookup an external monitor but that didn't help.
Tried powering up with the d key pressed in to run a graphics check but didn't work. Since the comnputer is no longer under waranty I took it apart and took out the Nvidia card and cleared the dust around it.
Right after that the computer loaded fine but today it got stuch while in windows and when I tried loading it I got the same err msgs with the LED indicators. I talked with Dell locally and they told me it's 99% the Nvidia card
Just installed a T7600 in my E1705, and full-load temps are 74C. I don't remember what me T7200 ran at.

Recently, whenever I run a game (any game, even older ones like WC3) or anything graphics-intensive such as movies, the cpu load increases until it hits 100% and the system basically freezes until I exit whatever program was running.
For the first 5-10 of a game, everything runs smoothly, but eventually the cpu load maxes and I have to quit. the sound is also messed up, which i think is just an effect of the cpu load.

I am able to boot from USB and the Windows 7 install program starts. I select Custom Install to do a new installation (not an upgrade). After I select the partition to install to, I get an error message like "can't find a system drive to install to..." I have tried this on two different 1410's with the same results.
It was the particular USB SD Card Reader I was using. I don't have a 4GB USB drive so I was using a USB SD Card reader and an 8GB SD card. I switch to a different Card Reader (same 8GB SD card) and it worked first time!
I have a brand new nw280f with Windows 7 and I hate it. 7 that is, I want to wipe and load my XP PRO onto it. Can I do this? Will all my funtions work? The drivers on the Sony site are all for Windows 7. I want to use several of my programs and some hardware and they do not work with Windows 7.

View 1 Replies View Related5 years ago I purchased an Acer One ZG8 Netbook. I have gotten alot of use although now I am facing a crash with Windows XP not loading. I wanted to do a factory reset and see if there is any hope to keep this older Acer as a back up netbook. After powering up the Acer One,,,Windows XP will not load. I am faced with a black screen offering options:
1.Safe Mode
2. Safe Mode with Networking
3. Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Or Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked). Lastly, Start Windows Normally
Finally, it prompts me to use the down arrow keys to choose with a 30 second countdown ticker.
I HAVE tried all the options for weeks and weeks. Just as Window XP loads a blue screen with word flash so quickly I can not possibly read it. I am very very close to letting this older version Acer meet its maker --- although through my ignorance I have realized just maybe I could do some sort of factory reset.
I bought yesterday the 640GB WD HDD and I tried to install it but Windows will not load. It will get stuk in the "loading screen" and will not advance to ask my password.
To complicate things, Windows actually loaded once, the driver setup programm was launched, the HDD was not visible and when I tried to restart it got stuck again.
Once I removed the drive everything loaded as usually.
I just got the xps 1640 today and I'm very distracted by the loud system fan. It's audible all the time even when the computer is idle. I haven't been doing anything intensive on my computer either. The fan starts as soon as windows loads and never stops. I know this laptop has heat issues but I checked the core temp and it is only between 38-45degrees C. I know the fan can get louder under load, this is what I would describe as idle but still, it seems way too loud. It was raining earlier and I could hear the fan over the sound of raindrops hitting my roof. It's getting unbearable!!
Has anyone had the same experience? Or more importantly does anyone have a way to reduce the speed of the fan slighty? Speedfan doesn't seem to support my motherboard so I can't do it there.

I8200 with orginal 40GB hitachi HD DK23EB-40. So I left the notebook run overnight (nothing new) has cooling pad and another fan sitting on the side running air over it. When I came to in in the morning it was locked so I rebooted. I got an error message and it doesn't want to boot. It does boot with another HD I have so the HD is the problem. I previously had a problem with another used HD that had a problem like this on another laptop and had someone i know work on it. To me it looked like he made a partition and placed the whole corupted OS with files inside of a fresh os install. I don't want to try and do a repair with the reinstall CD. Tried that once and didn't work so I don't want to to take a chance. Anyone know what he might have done? I have partition magic 8 if this is what's needed, but how to do this?

I inserted a CD given by my instructor, it was running really slow and some cranky / buzzing noise could be heard from it. I mean is it normal ? It loads kinda slow too.?
Everything was working fine until lately I noticed that during the BIOS the loading bar stops 4/5 of the way for around 10 seconds,
then I hear the slot load drive turn on and only then my computer boots up .....
