I have spent a couple days trying to get a smooth running XP-64bits HP Envy, I thought I'd start this thread in case anyone else like me needed to get this kind of setup. For my part, having an xp OS on my ENVY would allow me to run certain applications not supported under windows 7 so I gave it a go...
First of all, I have to note that my current system is still not quite functionnal: I am still missing drivers for the ATI 4830 and the intel 5100 wifi link. For some reason, the intel x64 driver installer quits silently without a crash or confirmation. The wifi link seems installed but it won't browse for available networks.
The ATI 4830 doesn't look like its gonna happen: I tried several versions of the ATI drivers, 8.7x, 9.11 and 10.2 without success. The drivers install but the video card is still showing up as vga display adapter in the hardware manager.
8.672.1.2000-WinXP-2003-Vista-2008-7-AMD64-x86 is the only driver set found to be stable (altho not very fast, it IS working and stable) at this time.
on my notebook I detect witch FN buttons, Biometric sensor and Memory Card Reader don't work. and one icon power I only have balanced power and power saver... missing high power :S
other problem stay on Protector Suite, Power Manegement and Setting Utility, because when I try install give me an error...
recently installed windows 7 on my laptop 15-n203tx
problem is my usb ports are working great in pre installed win 8.1 but now in win 7 just one port is working and it is usb port 2.0 and other two are 3.0 and not working!
I downloaded and burned an ISO Win7 install file (legal, I am using a purchased key to register it), and wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 without all the HP Bloatware crap like the sticky at the top of this forum suggests.... and when the install is done its first restart, and is on the Completing installation... phase the second time, it gives me a:
"Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computers hardware".
Are you serious?
Does anyone have a fix for this please. I now have an inoperable, and un-installable brand new laptop. Sweet.
I am installing it via the USB DVD Drive, through a DVD (Not even a USB flash drive problem!). I have tried it twice now and it failed both times. I even tried reseting the BIOS settings to default.
It's obviously a glitch in something, because I was running Win7 on the laptop this afternoon.
I received my Envy yesterday and was initially very impressed with the build quality and looks of the machine.
However, upon my first boot up things went downhill fast. I got an error before Windows even booted up. It stated that it had not been shut down properly before, (even though this was my first startup). It then went thorough a disk check and it appeared everything was ok.
I got the computer set up and then ran into several "black screens" for no apparent reason. Monitor would go blank and fans would start running loudly. I shut the computer off each time and rebooted without any problems.
Then it seemed to be stable for a few hours, only to go back to another "black screen". I did some research here and it sounds like a few others have had similar problems. I figured I'd try to update to the latest bios from HP's website,
Well, Bios update started ok, got about half way through and then the computer completely froze up and then went black again. So, it then became completely unbootable. No way to recover it, because there was no longer any bios on the system. I called tech support and they confirmed that it was shot at this point.
I could not install windows 7 because of the above subject. I tried to load drivers for RAID installation it says the specified location does not contain information about your hardware. Although i have downloaded the driver from intel website (the link you have provided).
is it maybe i tried to install the driver from the hard disk?
my sisters new computer out of the rubish bin after she threw it there in disgust and frustration at the W8 operating system... Her daughters disabled and uses specialised mobility software that works well with W7 but not W8... Looking for a complete set of drivers so we can install Win 7 and save the day (and this computer from an untimley death)... here are its specs...
I purchased the HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC at the beginning of Sept. I immediately upgraded to Windows 8.1. But I have never been able to use the fingerprint scanner to log in to Windows. I don't know if this is a result of W8.1 because I never tried it with W8.
I updated the Simple Pass drivers and the BIOS, but that hasn't worked. What are my options?
After a harddrive crash, a replacement of the faulty drive, and a reinstallation I am looking for drivers for my Envy dv6 7254eo for windows 7 or 8. On a general level, because there are a lot of them missing.
I have been looking on the support site at hp.com but can't seem to even find my system. Finding the drivers page, or supply me with a detailed hardware specification with manufacturer and model number for the components so that I can find the drivers at the relevant manufacturer's site (i.e realtech, intel etc.)?
I entered Safe Mode in my Envy TS 15 running windows 8.1 to fix some issues with my Norton software and now I can't figure out how to exit back to normal mode. Internet is shut off in safe mode (even though I selected safe mode with networking) so I can run any of Support resolutions. How to do this?
have a HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j005se laptop running in Windows 8.1 Sinle language. I already have a purchased Windows 7 Professional x64. I tried to downgrade my OS to Windows 7 Pro. I prefer in UEFI installation, so create a OS installation USB in UEFI mode in GPT partition and enabled legacy in BIOS. Then the installer is booting from the USB device and everything is going well till it reaches to the HDD partition window. I can't see my HDD on the installer window. I already have a HDD with 4 visible partition, C (OS), D (Data), E (Recovery) and 100 MB system in FAT 32. i want to format only my C, because D contains all my data backup. I tried to browse intel Storage driver, still it is not detecting my HDD.
I installed windows 7 on my hp envy m7-k010dx and everything worked fine. but i got a new haerdrive and reinstalled it and all my drivers but the bluetooth doesnt seem to want to work. the system knows its there but it cant find my bluetooth mouse. do i need to reformat everything and reinstall?
I am loading up Windows 7 on my new HP Envy 17 laptop. Naturally, we are missing all kinds of drivers.
However, I still need to find
-Ethernet Controller (tried a few here but didn't work) -Network Controller (same here haven't found the right one yet) -PCI Simple Simple Communications Controller -Universal Serial Bus Controller (USB) Controller ( tried a few here too)
Then I have two unknown devices still ; probably the camera and the fingerprint scanner.
I understand that HP directly is not supporting this downgrade. I am not liking windows 8.1 so I want to go back to Windows 7. I have the base system installed and as I said I did find a few drivers but not all.
I purchased a laptop (Envy, 17-jo11nr, PN: E0K87UA#ABA) and tried upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1. It wouldn't install and went back to Windows 8. This was a few months ago, and I am wondering if it is safe to try upgrading again. I checked my product number on the page about Windows 8.1 and it said my computer hasn't been tested for 8.1. I would very much like to upgrade, but I don't want to ruin my pc.
When I downgraded from win 8.1 to win 7 I noticed there were about 11 items with problems being displayed in Device Manager. These ranged form network and ethernet to PCI , USB and various others. NVIDIA indicated it could not load until the Intel stuff had loaded first. That wasn't in DM, it cropped up when I attempted to load some of the drivers manually.
I really don't want to guess at what's gone wrong here but could if have something to do with hardware set up for win 8 being used with win 7 drivers etc?
after installing windows 7 on a laptop HP Envy M6 1303-er - I can not find a driver for USB bus and SM bus controller, because of what does not work flash drives, mouse and other devices.
Would it be straight forward to clean install windows 7 on to my HP ENVY m6-1205sa? Will all the drivers be found easily and will all the HP software be easy to install like HP Advisor, fn key control, simple pass, cool sense, drive guard and the like?
Basically, friend bought the laptop and got viruses on it. I went and reformatted the hard drive and installed Windows 8.1 and have no way to activate it now as there is no license key sticker anywhere to be found.
Is there any way to activate Windows point without buying another retail copy of Windows 8? Seems ridiculous that they would move to this method of having a SLIC BIOS with an inserted key that you can't activate off of.
I have installed Windows 7 Pro on my HP Envy 17-j188ez and after installing the drivers from the HP page I have still one unknown and one device which cannot start in the device manager:
I'm shopping for laptops right now and I'm pretty much stuck between these two. My main question for the 14 is will it be able to do full hd? I know 1920x1080 is a bit much to ask for on a 14.5" screen but I haven't been able to find a solid answer for this question. The 14 has more features and the internal cd drive is a plus, but not a dealbreaker for the 15 since the cd drive isn't used too much. Taking out price, which one would be a better buy?
