HP/Compaq :: Replacement / Quieter Fan
Jan 23, 2009
I've been on the HP site and to be honest, it's not the most clear and concise site to use.
I have a relatively old HP530 (p/n GU327AA#ABU) which is still pretty nippy and fault-free (touch wood). The only problem is a very noisy fan which seems to be a common problem with these laptops and HP laptops in general.
Could anyone please recommend a replacement fan for this HP model or do I have to stick to the same fan and/or buy from HP?
I've not yet tried removing the back and cleaning the fan as it doesn't sound faulty, damaged or impeded at all, it simply runs loud, very loud! I've also just ordered a laptop cooler for it to sit on but I'd still like to get its' fan sorted out if possible.

So I've had my XPS Gen 2 which I've taken good care of for about 3 years now. Lately, I've been paying a bit more attention to my fan noise. It seems louder than when I first got the laptop, could be just me. And I know it can't be the infamous core2duo motherboard problem that the new laptops have since this is a 2.26 Pentium M.
So I'm wondering if replacing the two fans with brand new ones would minimize the fan noise and maybe even help with cooling (not that the current ones aren't doing their jobs). What do you guys think? And if you do suggest that buying new fans will solve noise problems or lessen noise problems, what is the part number? Or, is there a good alternative to buy the fans? (Ebay is a bit shaky since you get cheap imitations sometimes, but hey, it could work.)

I've got the HP Pavillion DV5-1250us Notebook (bronze finish) which has the classic keyboard problem! You can't read the keys because of the lousy color combination they chose. 90% of the people who bought this notebook ended up getting the keyboard replaced.
My notebook is STILL UNDER WARRANTY.
I read in a lot of places, including Newegg.Com Customer Reviews and across discussion forums - People were able to call in and HP sent them a replacement keyboard FREE of charge; including shipping and all.
When I got on the phone with them today, they are willing to replace the keyboard free of charge & all - but they want me to SEND IN my entire notebook to them! How come they want me to send in the notebook whereas in other instances they sent the owner the replacement keyboard?
I've had Toshiba send me a replacement keyboard in the past; why can't HP do this?

Having a hard time figuring out how to swap a damaged HDD with a new one on this mini form factor Compaq EVO D5D case, it seems the case have a tab you press to release the HDD, CD-ROM or Floppy drive, but it seems everything is stuck inside, I can't slide the HDD or the floppy drive. On the second pic there is an identation on the inside of the casing when the device is attached and pressing the green tab at the top makes it flat so that supposedly you can slide it out but I don't know if this is how it's supposed to work.
Here some pics.

I purchased an HP nc8430 in 2006, and its been brilliant.
Its getting a bit long in the tooth and I am now after a replacement.
I do some moderate gaming so a dedicated video card is a must.
At present, I am looking at the Dell Studio 15/16 models as they seem to offer good bang for the buck. However I have been so happy with my HP Notebook that I would like to see what HP have to offer.
I have tried the HP UK website, however I totally hate the layout of it, and am totally confused with the myriad of options and model ranges. I cant seem to filter out what I want.
What I am looking for is a 15" (approx) laptop with a dedicated video card.

to start off I updated my vid drivers to the most recent nvidia driver and it has been downhill from that point! When i boot up it shows bars on the screen and will not load windows so i shutdown and load using safe mode which starts right up but still has red artifacts on the screen, i then uninstall the nvidia driver and reboot windows now it loads up properly still has the red artifacts though. So now it is using a standard vga driver then i install a different nvidia driver and get the same problems
I fear i may need a new mboard, would i be able to fit a better mboard/gpu in this chassis if it turns out my gpu is dead? think this may fall under a recall or something?

I am trying to source a replacement fan for a HP dv2535ea laptop. HP Support was useless so was wondering if anyone knows where I can locate one from.
The current fan is working fine but is making a horrible noise.

I bought a hard drive (Seagate 320GB SATA 2.5") intending to upgrade my storage space which is currently 160gb. I checked to see if the drive was compatible (the drive my HP dv6500t shipped with was a Toshiba MK1637GSX) and I had figured it was since both were SATA.
The hard drive arrived today. I decided that before I begin putting my drive image on the new drive that I check to see if it'll fit. I open it up and take the drive out and to my surprise I see that the drive that was inside the laptop had some kind of pin-connectors.
The Seagate laptop did not. I took off the caddy that was holding the hard drive, but I noticed that the pin connectors were a part of the hard drive itself.
So this has left me rather perplexed. I looked online and found caddies and SATA connectors for a dv6000 laptop but they were going for around $35.
Is this normal or am I just missing something here? Should I have ordered a different drive?
My laptop is a Pavilion dv6500t purchased October, 2007.

I just replaced the motherboard in the girlfriend's HP/Compaq NX9105 (died in a wine spill...). The new mobo boots, but the first message was "unsupported wireless network device detected" and the system went no further. So I removed the card figuring a BIOS upgrade would sort that, but then I am faced with the message "this motherboard does not support 82W CPU", and again the system goes no further. I have checked the parts list and there only seems to be one mobo for this model, although there is one figure different on the part number:
Old mobo SPS-370495-001
New mobo: SPS-370496-001
The only other difference I could find was the new mobo only has one CPU fan header, easily sorted.
Other details;
CPU Athlon 64 1800 Skt 754
1.5GB DDR1 (though just using 256 stick for testing)
Bios Ver F11, newest available F34.
AFAIK the 1800 was the slowest CPU offered on this model except for some that had an Athlon XP-M fitted.
This may just be a BIOS upgrade issue, and I can certainly enter setup, but at the moment I cannot get it past the error messages, so any pertinent advice gratefully received.

I need some rubber feet and the LCD Rubbers too.
Technical support tells me to purchase the following..
Vince Dash : Hardware kit - Contains chassis rubber foot and Bluetooth module holder
Part number: 538346-001
Price: $44.65
Vince Dash : LCD panel front bezel assembly $67.45
PArt number: 576810-001
I think its outrageous to purchase these two packages for over 100.00 just to get some rubber 1x1inch pieces?

I was looking at the new Elitebooks today and saw that there are now 8xxx series machines with 14" screens and that there is not a 6940p. Is the 8440 intended to replace the 6930? Also, why is the screen on the 8440x 14.0" rather than the 14.1" size that appears to be the norml? Another change in aspect ratio?

In general, for screen replacement on a HP business notebook, what is the best option?
1) Ship it back to HP
2) Let a tech replace it onsite
3) Ask for the whole display assembly and replace it myself
I've mostly had Dell business notebooks in the past, so I'm not sure how good HP business repair quality is. I've searched the forums here and found some stories of people not being very happy with their repair quality when it has been sent back to HP and when they've had technicians on site so I was considering just asking for the whole display assembly and then replacing it myself.

How can I get HP to replace my LCD? I really am rather tired of the support hassles!
A few months ago, I accidentally dropped my EliteBook 8530w (and since I knew it was bound to happen eventually, I did buy it with ADP). After I got the thing back (after waiting on the replacement LCD screen to come in stock, I've noticed some odd issues related to the screen:The screen seems to have some permanent "smudges" on the screen -- dark areas, that I can't clean off.The EDID seems to be messed up -- it misidentifies the panel name, size, and available non-native modes.
The old LCD identified itself properly as an LP154WU1-TLC2. It offered 1920x1200, 1440x900, 1280x800, and such resolutions..................

i have recently purcahsed a 2nd hand DV9605ea laptop, which had a broken screen
i purchased another screen from ebay and have sort of succesfully replaced it.
however there are a couple of problems. firstly the screen that i took off had only 2 leads that connect to part of the motherboard, and the replacement has 3. i have connected up 2 of the wires and the monitor is working but i can only get a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. i have tried to install the nvidia drivers/software but i keep getting the error message no hardware found for this software. this also happens when microsoft updates tries to install the same software.
i guess that the monitor i am using is obviously from a different spec macine although it is from the dv9000 series.
can i use it with only the 2 cables and still get it up to 1400 x 900?
or can i upgrade the graphics card?
here is a link to show what 2 wires i am refering to.

i had a HP Pavillion dv6904ca and had sent it in for repair 4 times cause of graphics failures all of which failed to fix the problem. recently i was given a case manager, and low and behold they say they would replace the laptop for me. They decide to give me and HP HDX 16-1140us as a replacement and they tell me i need to send the laptop in first and then once recieved they would send the new laptop. so far its been about a week and a half and still no new laptop. so my question is if anyone here had to go through hp case manager to replace laptop, how long did it take to receive the new one? I know it sounds like a dumb question but i need my laptop for school and cant go very long without it.

My friend has a dv9000 laptop, and gpu on motherboard is dead, so he has to replace whole motherboard. I was looking through ebay and i found one silly thing, i can see that some motherboards are used for DV6000 series and also for dv9000. For instance 441534-001 motherboard can be replaced and used on bought laptops. So my question is are all motherboards replacable or just few of them as one mentioned above? We were thinking of buying one with intel cpu, cause now he has AMD.

Did the HD test and it failed, begins to boot but goes to black screen w/ cursor. What I was told when I called HP and from what I reasearched myself you can't just pop another HD in without encountering problems and even another dead HD. Is it the software in the laptop or are some HDs not compatible? Is there an HD that I can use without having issues? The old HD is a Samsung HM 121 Hl 120GB 5400 SATA. I have a new Seagate Momentus 7200 200GB SATA, think it would work?

i just replaced the previously matte chi mei display on my hp compaq 8510p gb967ea (WSXGA+), with a brand new lg-philips glossy one (both certified for my notebook, of course) and for the first time ever on that notebook (ie. first time since its acquisition summer 2008) i experience backlight issues now.
just like on my very old nx9030 (which happened twice while under warranty, so its been repaired for free, and then once after the warranty period), the backlight keeps turning off by itself or when touching the lid or typing a bit heavier. so i have to close the lid and open it again to make it turn on again!
i watched out for all the cables within the frame and the one going into the inverter board, so none should be squeezed or so.
shall i open it again and look for a specific cable, jack or something like that, whether something is being squeezed?

I'm having a tough time replacing the hard drive in my dell xt. The hard drive (a pata 80gb) started stuttering so I had a replacement sent out.
The replacement has a cable that is a female connector and my connector from the motherboard is a female also so it won't connect.
My original connector had sensitive copper pins that I broke when doing this install so I can't use that one.
