View 5 Replies View RelatedMy computer freezes all the time. Everytime i turn it on it runs about 5-10 min and then it freezes. The screen is not black and I can still move the mouse but I can't press on any icons or do anything. I have tried to scan the computer for virus and run other test, but usually the computer freezes before it is done.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got my new x100e laptop today, and i really like it. But, it has a problem.
I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.
It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.
It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is an inspiron 1520, about a year old now. Ever since I've had it, the hard disk drive has been making a loud, random click from time to time. Sometimes, it will click twice in the space of two minutes, sometimes it will click only once in two or three days.
Typically it's simply a loud snapping sound, like if you get a pencil and snap it against a wooden desk. It doesn't make any other sounds besides the usual hard drive sounds.
For about a quarter of a second, the system pauses. I think it's related to heat, as it happens most often while playing a graphic-intensive game.
On my inspiron e1505 my time won't stay set. windows 7 OS.

I got my laptop back in august of 2008. Everything has been good up until a few weeks ago. From the moment I turn my computer on the CPU sit at 50% usage. I have no idea what is causing this. I can restart the laptop and as soon as vista boots up the cpu is sitting at 50% usage. According to the task manger windows explorer (explorer.exe) is using the cpu the most.
This is while at idle.
What could cause this? I thought maybe firefox was causing the problem so I uninstalled it but that only worked for about a day

On a side note, my laptop will not stay in standby. I close the lid it goes into standby and then a few min later comes back on. When it comes back on the fan is also running nonstop. Sometimes after it comes back from standby the mute and volume up buttons will be blinking. the buttons still work but they blink. I have already checked the power setting and they are not preventing standby
I feel my studio 1558 i5 540m, 7200 rpm hdd has a pathetic boot performance.
Took 1min initially, cut down to 40 sec by microsoft utilities(bootperf), but back again to 1min boot.
I am running factory installed os (with crap removed) and have not clean installed.
Please post your boot times and mention if it is a clean install.
I have an Inspiron 700m of which I am the original owner. I just ordered a new Hitachi Travelstar 7K100 80GB 7200rpm drive. I have only done one OS install prior to this when I assembled a desktop PC but that was several years ago and I was following an online guide (MySuperPC) virtually step-by-step.
I have contacted Dell and they sent me a reinstall copy of the OS (XP Home) on CD.
My biggest concern is partitioning. I'm really not clear on what this is all about or how I should go about doing this. I've had one person tell me not to partition at all. Another tell me to make it 50%-50% and another tell me to make a 5GB partition just for the OS.
This a basic email, web browsing, document reading type of machine that I use when I'm traveling.
I can follow to install the OS onto my new hard drive? I've seen a few, but they seem to be more geared toward recovery type reinstallations and several seem geared more toward "power users."
I was looking at the stuff coming out soon, and expresscard 2.0 and usb 3.0 are coming out (asus cancelled their first usb 3.0 motherboard as of yet) but with usb 3.0/expresscard 2.0, our dreams of a fast ssd insertable would quickly come to fruition. I was wondering how long it'd take, and if it'd be better to wait like a year?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd just ask because I couldn't find anything pertaining to my question that is recent. So my computer has been as followed:
4/11/10 - Kitting
4/12/10 - Kitting
4/13/10 - Build
4/14/10 - Build
4/15/10 - Build
4/16/10 - Build to Boxing (11PM CST)
4/17/10 - Boxing
4/18/10 - Boxing
4/19/10 - Boxing
How much longer am I looking at for boxing? I know they have to fly this to Nashville and then send it to FedEx but... 5 days? Come on! Any ideas to get a clear ETA from a Dell agent would be great, mine has never had an estimated arrival time and this final stage is bugging me to bits!
I am leaving town for 6 weeks and giving my desktop to a friend to hold onto while I am gone from the dorms. I don't trust the dorms with this computer. She is going to just be keeping the desktop in her room packed up in the box. Is it safe to do this? Will the internal battery die over those 6 weeks and not being plugged in? I just want to make sure that it's kept safely in every sense possible.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just accepted an offer on my MBP and I'll be purchasing a new unibody MBP in the following week.
I have a lot of personal data and applications that are backed up right now in the form of a Time Machine backup.
The old MBP is a SR (sig below) and the new one will be the unibody; different specs, GPU, HD etc...
Can I just plug in my external HD that has my Time Machine backup into the new machine and restore it? Would the fact that there are different hardware complicate matters? And if so, since I still have my old machine for now, what would be the best solution to do what I'm trying to do here?
I'm currently using XPS 15 with i7-2720QM and Geforce 540GT. Everything is fine with it EXCEPT this damn fan that turns on and off all the time and Dell's support gives a damn on that. They blame faulty Geforce and they say that nothing can be done about this...
Are there any laptops that don't have this issue and are very, very quiet in addition (maybe like no fan at all?).
I am getting an Asus 1000he which is a great little netbook, and still very small..
for some reason within the next 9 months I want to get a Dell Mini 9 for the novelty factor of it being small..
how long does it take to to start up your studioxps from pressing the on button to getting a page(google) open on firefox.
takes me about 1min 2-3sec
but only like 49sec to get logged on
for some reason msn and firefox are slow on start up, maybe its because of 64bit?
Also, stat your system specs.
I have a 9400 that the warrenty just expired after 3 years.
I have played over 300 days of wow, transorted it to work about 50% of the time + other heavy usuage. Its copped a thrashing and wont play the good games anymore.
I just need the model name. Manufacturer if you can get it.
Go to My Computer, right-click drive and go to Properties. Then the hardware tab and it's the thing that ISN'T your hard drive. Or Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
I Would Like It If Someone Could Give me A Step By Step Guide Of Updating Component Drivers and Bios, Especially The Graphics Card

M1330 motherboard died for the 3rd time and was told on Nov 21st that they will be sending me a replacement model. How long does it take for them to send it? Sucks to be without my one and only laptop. TIA
View 10 Replies View Relatedmy work pc is a Dell inspiron 1520. it is mounted on Ram stand in my tow truck. the problem i am having is sometimes now when im driving down a bumpy road the backlight goes out.
to get it back on i either have to close the lid and open it, or shut it down and reboot.
i was thinking its the switch that tells the mother board that the lid is closed when its not. Is there any way to disable that switch so the backlight is on permantly
i have a dell xps m1330 came with ubuntu preinstalled. its a great laptop. but the fan runs most of the time not full speed but load enough to be audible in a quiet room. when i installed a cpu temperature monitor it showed the average CPU temperature hovers between 40c and 55c when ever am using the system for just browsing the web. is this normal.
here are the system specs
320GB hard drive 7200 RPM
Intel Intergrated card 3100
4gb ram
core 2 duo 2.2 ghz
i chatted with dell tech support and he said it was normal for my system to get 60c 55c 70c is this true. am thinking maybe its because the my hard disk speed is high (7200) please if u own a dell xps m1330 can you please tell me the average temp of your computer... esp if u have the intel intergrated card.
I have a 9400 with a 7950gtx in it. I recently had to replace the inverter in the lcd because it was giving me problems. It worked fine for a day and occasionally I would get a white screen randomly but it would go away and the normal one would come back. Now its white screen all the time. Its definately not the videocard because i can plug in an external monitor and its fine. Is this the inverter? lcd? bulb?

I just bought a refurbished Dell Studio 1555 and noticed that only the right USB port was working.
When I went into bios and disabled "outside USB ports", the left one started to work and the right one stopped working.
Well my XPS M1330 finally succumbed to the nvidia gpu flaw. I called Dell on Sunday afternoon (it's now Weds AM) and within 20 minutes with tech support had arranged for on site repair.
Well Monday came and went, no call from the local tech to schedule my repair. Contacted Dell chat support yesterday (Tues) morning and within 10 minutes after checking on my status the rep said I should receive a call by end of business day. The rep then connected me to a supervisor for a quick survey...supervisor asked me some small talk questions and then gave me a # to call direct regarding my in home repair (800-654-1853). So now this morning, no call so I gave the # a jingle...it is some company named "Bangtech"? Gave them my Dell Dispatch # and the lady there told me they haven't received the replacement part yet (new mobo). I explained today is now the 3rd day, she put me on hold, then came back and said they anticipate delivery today and I would receive a call by 5pm today to schedule.
My question is is this normal timing? My Dell dispatch says "NBD". I figured it would be Tues for the repair since I called Sunday afternoon and nothing would probably get shipped/updated until Monday. At this point it's going to be Thursday at the earliest.
i am a gamming freak and i play lots of games most time... but in the newly purchased machine..
