I have just bought an Aspire E15 Laptop, its working well so far, but I'm just setting the 'fiddly bits'. Can I set the numlock to default to 'ON' at start up? A minor point but just starting to annoy me!

What I am trying to achieve is the following:
- Enable F keys as default setting
- Disable application switching of toolbar
We will need to do this on a large number of laptops, and it's not really viable to do it via the application (as it will be time consuming). I hope to deploy the settings as a batch file which imports a registry entry.
I recently bought a lenovo Y510P and did a clean windows 7 64-bit installation. Yesterday I reset my BIOS Setting to the default settings and now it doesnt reconise any of my hard drives or usbs anymore. The only thing I can boot from are (I think) the network cards?..

I reinstalled my computer, but when it got to the point where you set sound defult, it wouldn't work. The sections "Configure" and "Properties" worked, but "Set Default" wouldn't. I am so frustrated because I need sound and video to do a lot of things on my computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI own the Pavilion g6 and ever since I've gotten it, I've had audio driver problems. This is a recent one. I'm not able to set my Communication Headphones as the default device. The reason I want to is because I want audio to go through my headphones only, but if I disable speakers and headphones, volume mixer glitches out and says "No audio device is installed" I've also had other problem too, my microphone does not work correctly but the headphones do. I've already tried uninstalling / reinstalling by the way.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Problem: Can't boot from second drive by default
I have an HP Pavillion dv7 1451NR, product number NV204UA#ABA.
I have two drives installed. I have Windows 7 64-bit installed on drive 0 and Ubuntu 32-bit installed on drive 1.
I can successfully boot either operating system by the following procedure:
Power up
Press escape-key to get to BIOS
Press F9-key to get to boot menu
Boot menu shows two drives named “Internal Hard Drive”
If I select the first entry named “Internal Hard Drive” I boot to Windows 7.
If I select the 2nd entry named “Internal Hard Drive” I boot to Ubuntu.
I power up if I do NOT press escape, the machine boots to Windows after the timeout. My Problem: I want to boot to Ubuntu by default.
I've checked the HP bios and I don't believe there is any way to do this by changing the boot priority in BIOS. The BIOS doesn't seem to differentiate between the two hard drives. I only has one entry for “Internal Hard Drive”.
I believe an approach that should work is:
Use bcdedit or easybcd to create a BCD record that points to GRUB.
Create a GRUB config file that “chain” loads Ubuntu.
Use bcdedit to move the GRUB entry as the default.
I've tried various permutations but can't get it to work.
How do I discover where the initial boot image is for GRUB?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble restoring my computer to factory settings. Just to preface this, everytime i restart my HP Pavillion dv6 laptop, it freezes on the HP logo on the boot up. This freezing only occurs when i restart, if i manually shut it down and turn it on the boot up progresses normally.
So i have tried to restore my computer to factory settings by using the recover manager and the recovery manager requires the laptop to be restarted. However, the laptop freezes on the restart so i have to shut down the laptop manually and turn it back on. This interferes with the recovery manager and i get an error that recovery manager was not properly able to restore my computer.
I have also tried to press F10 on the boot up to enter restore mode. However, when i hit f10 my screen goes completely black. The fan and the laptop are running but the screen goes blank. How i can restore my laptop.
I've succeeded in installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my HP Pavilion 15-n228us.how to adjust any settings on the touch pad / track pad, however. It's overly sensitive right now and interferes with typing.I assume I'm missing a driver that will enable me to control it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got this Notebook-PC in 2012 it is a G7 series I am fairly sure. My problem is that when I turn off the computer and turn it back on, there is no (esc) option to open bios menu or any option for that matter. Just a blue HP symble directly in the middle of the screen with a small loading symbol below it. I have pressed esc, f1-f10, and pretty much every other key to try to access it. All I really want to do is disable the most annoying f1-f12 function keys.
I am no longer under warranty and my operating system is Windows 8. There are also no error messages at all, just no response to anything just loads up to the password login screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had my Pavilion dv8 for a few months now. A month or two after I received it, I began experiencing problems with the slider treble/bass control. It would sporadically pop up and start changing the treble or bass at random intervals. It also randomly disconnected me from my wireless connection. I thought this might just have something to do with the slider being dirty, but after several attempts of cleaning it, it still remains a problem. At first it was just a little annoying, fixed by clicking the mouse or pressing the top internet button, but now it's REALLY annoying, even popping up as I write this post. Is "slider thing" the right term?

Went to turn on the laptop and walked away. A minute or two later come back and laptop is not past the BIOS, and a screen talking about a laptop being ran until the battery drained last time it was on. I didn't get a chance to finish reading the screen because the laptop restarted. Nothing shows up on the screen after the restart. I was running off the AC adapter when this happened.
Situation now is pressing the power button causes the power button, media quick play bar. Power notification light , light above mouse pad and the wireless slider to light up. If the AC adapter is plugged in the charge light will light as well.
I also hear a fan and i think the HDD. The HDD light doesn't light though. Nothing will show on the screen. stays black. I have tried powering it with AC adapter only, charged battery only, and with a charged battery and AC adapter.
I have an hp pavilion dv6. It was purchased at the end of 2010. My computer teens to get hot a little quicker than normal. It had overheated a couple times, but not recently.I recently went on a road trip and when I got back my computer screen won't turn on. While I was away, I took the bottom plastic screen off and put it back on (one of the sides had come loose and a tab was sticking out). I also tightened all the screws on the main cover on the bottom because some had come loose. When I got home and tried to turn my laptop on, the screen wouldn't turn on. I can hear the fan turn on. The light indicating the wifi was on, but showing that it was off- and it was on when I last used my computer. Also, the capslock light is blinking. I don't hear any sound from the speakers or anything like that. I tried hooking it up to a projector but never got a signal. I tried unplugging it and removing the battery and holding the power button for 30 seconds but nothing changed when I tried turning it back on.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv7 notebook with Windows 7 64-bit. Last week after I was attacked by some virus that's called Win 7 I installed a virus removal program Super Anti Spyware Free Edition. The problem went away but so did my ability to access the Firewall. I tried a few different options from the Microsoft site like trying to find it on the services menu, it wasn't there. I tried saving a repair sequence in Notepad then running as administrator from the desktop that didn't work either. Every time I try to reset the firewall an error code pops up. Error code- 0x80070424
Now I have to keep jumping around from different user accounts on the computer because the same malware/virus keeps trying to pop up. It keeps trying to make me buy the full version even though it appears to be nothing wrong with the computer according to other programs. i googled it and it's a scam to get you to pay for something you don't need.
I am pretty positive that my laptop does have a backlight. However, I didn't need it at the time and I shut it off. But now I can't turn it on. I originally remembered adjusting it through the power options and that there was a little slider to adjust the brightness of either the screen or the keyboard. I could have been wrong though, since I no longer see the second slider for the keyboard brightness. I have tried everything I could find to get the light to turn on. I used the mobility center but there is no keyboard option. I have tried the fn + spaacebar, fn +f5, and my keyboard does not have a specialized key to adjust the keyboard backlight either. How to turn on the backlight?
