Recently I've got an Thinkpad L540 and it's pretty cool.
But I got a problem that when the laptop is booting while a VGA is plugged in, the boot screen (the screen right after when the laptop turns on) will always be shown on the external Display (Projector). I've already checked the BIOS and it is set to "Thinkpad LCD".
I don't know if it'll be fixed with an BIOS update.
I just got my lenovo thinkpad edge e420 and after about a month of using it the on screen display for volume, microphone, camera, etc the f buttons has stopped showing up on my screen. I had not updated any drivers or anything i think i may have uninstalled one of the programs for this by accident i am not sure....
View 3 Replies View RelatedToday I received my L540 and I'm installing all the drivers at the moment. After I installed the trackpad/point drivers I disabled the trackpad. But now I noticed that the middle mouse button isn't working.
Also is there an easy way to get all the drivers I'm missing at once? I don't have a CD.
I purchased a new L540 running Windows 7 and enrolled a finger. I can use the fingerprint to unlock but not to login. I've reviewed forum postings that suggest that I need to Change Biometric Settings, however the are set as "Biometrics On, Allow Users to log on to Windows using their Fingerprints." I note that the fingerprint software on the L540 is different than my 2 yr old W520, which had a way different interface.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a new L540 that arrived inoperatve - power button did not work. Sent it back to depot, and after 2 weeks received it back with a new system board and 3 other parts replaced. After loading Windows 7 without any problems, the first time I went to reboot I found that it hangs after shutting down - in other words, it appears to be shut down, but backlight is still on and there it sits, until I hold power button for 4 seconds. I can hear (very faintly) 5 short beeps as soon as it is down. If I try it in safe mode, the 5 beeps are at full volume.
If I choose "shutdown," it shuts down fine, and comes back up fine after hitting the power button. No difference whether it is on battery, AC, or AC with no battery installed.
I have done all updates including the BIOS, no difference. I have pulled the CMOS battery to reset BIOS settings to defaults.
I have an L540 refurb I got a couple months ago, and the webcam suddenly stopped working. Here's what it looks like when I try to use it anywhere.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't get past BIOS when my W530 is connected to an external hard drive, in my case a WD My Book Essential 3TB (USB 3.0).
Here are some previous threads I've found:
-W520 hangs on boot when a WD SES USB drive is connected
-W520 won't boot with SES device connected to USB
-W530 stuck or won't boot when WD external drive plugged in.
I would be satisfied if I could disable USB Legacy Support in BIOS and move on, but I can't find that option anywhere on my W530.
Here's what I've tried so far:
-Updated BIOS to the latest version (1.11) and updated WD My Book firmware.
-Changed the port (tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0, powered and unpowered) that the drive is connected to.
-Removed everything except my MSATA drive in boot priority. I can't enter BIOS settings when the WD drive is connected so I can't actually exclude it from the boot priority, but I've tried to enable Boot Order Lock.
-Disabled USB options in BIOS (USB UEFI BIOS Support, Always on USB, etc.).Switched between Quick and Diagnostic boot. With Quick it's stuck at the Thinkpad splash screen, with Diagnostic I just get a black screen.
-Tried with both GPT and MBR partitions styles for the external drive.
-Changed between UEFI and Legacy.Tried it with my friend's Thinkpad T520, wouldn't boot either with the drive connected...
Other information:
My Thinkpad is docked to a Thinkpad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 (170W). I haven't bothered to try it undocked, but judging from the other posts it's not likely to fix the issue.
Surprisingly I don't have this issue with my older WD My Book Essential Edition 2.0 1TB (USB 2.0) external hard drive. I don't think it would work to simply remove the drive from boot priority. I've removed my other external hard drive but I can still hear it spinning up during boot (when the Thinkpad splash screen shows up), which suggest that it's still being identified during boot. Is there really no workaround other than "get a different enclosure" or "unplug it when powering on"? Are there any >3TB external hard drives, preferably USB 3.0, that are known to work?

I am to be the lucky owner of an X1 Carbon soon. There is one thing that I can't find the answer for in the documentation and spec sheets:
- what is the maximum resolution that the mini displayport can handle?
The display that I'm looking to buy is running 2560 x 1080.
I run the W530 with a dual boot setup with Windows 7 and a Ubuntu distro, with the Windows as the default one.
Every time I try to boot and there happen to be a memory stick or a drive connected to the computer, it freezes on boot at the Windows logo. If I unplug the memory stick, everything is fine and it boots up normally.
Ive purchased a Thinkpad 12,7 mm SATA HDD Bay Adapter III and a Samsung 840 EVO, 500GB, SSD. Now when I swapped the DVD drive with the new SSD the same freeze happens ever time I try to boot. Ive tried to connect the new SSD to the computer and formatted it beforehand. But it keeps freezing.
Im not sure if this relates to my dual boot setup or what.
The problems still exist after I do a fresh restore with Lenovo DVDs. Also ran the Lenovo Update & Driver utility.
1. My W530 wont boot or start if I have a External drives plugged in. It stucked at "ThinkPad" screen. I have to unplug the external drive and press/old power button to shut it down. Same thing happened when the laptop is docked.
=> Contacted the technical support today. They told me I have to unplug and plug it back in everytime. I told him that there is a reason I got the dock station so I don't have to unplug and plug my external drive every time.
2. I have no problems booting if thumbs drive plugged in. But it keep "Auto run" everytime I turn on the machine.
I do not have this problem with my W500 and W510.

I have a T420 Thinkpad and have 2 external monitors connected; one using VGA into the docking station and one using DVI into the docking station. The laptop does not recognize the mobile PC display as an option when I attempt to extend to a 3rd monitor. The ultimate goal is 3 monitors extended: 2 external and 1 (the laptop display). Is this possible?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just switched to Windows 7 Pro and it is already driving me crazy. I use a Lenovo X200 with my Ultrabase. I connect the notebook to an external display via DisplayPort. The Intel GM45 Graphics Driver crashes about twice a minute when the Notebook is docked and connected to the external screen. Than all screens become black and afterwards a message pops up, that says "Intel Graphics Accelerator for XP (R) stopped responding and has recovered". Sometimes the notebook crashes and reboots. That gets really annoying and I haven't found a solution. Bios Version is 3.20. I loaded the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Lenovo Webpage (8.15.10.2302) with Windows 7 SP1 (all updates installed). When I use a standard windows driver and not the Intel driver the external display flickers black every minute once. The newest Intel driver (from the Intel Website) does not work, since it says that it is not released for my notebook.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a training environment using W530 laptops that are enclosed in an area in front of the desks. It is not pratical to get to the computer as it is hidden away and therefore I need to be able to use the dvi cabled external monitor for bios setup, boot order, etc.
Right now the boot options are hidden from the external monitor until windows loads. Then the external monitor becomes active. Any way to bypass the laptop monitor altogether?
My R51 was working perfectly and has been maintained over the 8 years it has been with me. I wanted to upgrade my RAM and downloaded the BIOS update and chipset drivers updates.
After powering down I pulled the old 256MB RAM sets from under the keyboard and bottom of machine. I then inserted the single 2GB RAM into the slot under the keyboard and reassembled it.
Black screen/ no boot
Took out the 2GB replaced the 256MB sets and it worked fine for a few hours as I searched out reasons why the 2GB would not work. 'Suddenly the screen goes black and the system shut down.
It will power up (battery light/ status light green) but screen is black and it will not boot. Fan is running and battery charges. I tried hitting F12 and F8 but nothing.
I am having white spots on screen. It shows up as a light white spot when the screen has a light background. On a darker screen it totally disappears. The spot is a few mm in size.
My system is lenovo Z50-70. Should i have to replace the screen??
I have a Thinkpad Edge E520. The volume and brightness keys are working, but the on screen display I used to have is gone. I tried everything I could find on the web, still not working.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the following problem with my computer, lenovo sl 510: when pressing the power button, the computer won´t boot. On the display you can see a black background, in the upper right corner the intel emblem and in the lower left corner you can see "thinkpad". I cannot enter the bios and nothing works. We´ve tried already to press the power button a few times to reset the computer. Didn´t work as well. The keyboard doesn´t accept any hot key combinations.

I'm not able to get past the initial logo screen. It just hangs, pressing the blue thinkvantage button does nothing. F12 likewise. Not able to get any sort of boot menu. Bootable CD in drive lights flash, no boot.
Have tried:
Reseating hard drive
Reseating Dimms, swapping and plugging in one at a time
Removed battery and held power switch down to discharge

Yesterday I have noticed a problem with the display in my X220 (type 4290-W1B). There is a small, white spot (about 1 mm diameter), clearly visible on the screen. It doesn't look like a normal bad pixel, but like a problem with the background light, or something. It is not visible when black color is displayed. The laptop was bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK until yesterday.
I have attached some pictures of this dot, but it is difficult to capture it with the camera (it is much more visible in real). I have marked the spot (it is in the middle of the circle). The pics are in high resolution so you can zoom in.
What should I do now? I have heard , that the Lenovo bad pixel policy is 3 bad pixel per display...

It's been a yeah that i work on this X1 Carbon laptop and no default. I got a windows update yesterday, i did it and my computer powered off naturally. This morning, i cant start it, It boot well, Lenovo sign appear but nothing after. only black screen with blinking underscore.

After windows loads with the glowing animation, the login screen does not appear. I cannot open a task manager. I don't know if it's a problem with explorer.exe or what.
The explorer.exe crashed when I tried to connect to an external hard drive, and I tried to get task manager to open, but it wouldn't open.
That's when I tried to restart computer, and login screen would not appear. All I have is a black screen with cursor.
I have Thinkpad Edge E330 bought this July, with win8 downgraded to win7. It recently started a problem where the laptop's own display doesn't display anything (just blank) if I don't have external display connected. The external display doesn't have be in use, just connected, and E330's own display works fine. If I disconnect the external display, the E330's own display goes blank also. It doesn't matter what display setting I have.Currently I'm not able to use my E330 as a laptop at all.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOkay so i probaly have the weirdest problem ever with this laptop, so the issue started when the display stopped working properly and would only work at a certain angle or when u would apply slight pressure on a certain part of the screen, faulty monitor correct?wrong. When i uninstalled the intel gpu drivers and reverted back to the standard microsoft display adapter all these problems disappeared, screen would work at all angles and the display would have no issues, so that sums out the possibility of the monitor being faulty. The display starts having these issues everytime the intel display drivers are installed, it just blows my mind how this is even a thing. The screen flickers twice and turns off after windows is done booting when the intel drivers are installed and works perfectly without them.
