Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X61s - USB External DVD Burners
Aug 15, 2014Will all usb external dvd burners work with X61s?
View 2 RepliesWill all usb external dvd burners work with X61s?
View 2 RepliesI realize my beloved Thinkpad is pretty much an antique, but I've been struggling with the Lenovo power manager utility after a fresh install of Win 7 Home Premium.it seems like the Lenovo PM and the native Win 7 power management can have conflicting values for similar settings (like low and critical battery levels, for instance).
But mainly, I can't seem to get the battery maintenance functions in the Lenovo PM to do anything. If I tell it to manage charge level for maximum life, the battery charges to 100% and just stays there. If I use the laptop on battery and put it back on charge, same thing -- it just charges to 100% and stays there.
Also, the battery reset function doesn't seem to do anything either. It's kind of hard to tell if it's even running. What seems to happen is that I'll go through the steps, and the large button slowly flashes. Does that mean it's running? But in any case, nothing happens. The battery just sits there fully charged.
I booted my X61s today after not running it for 2-3 months. It gave me an error right after the Toolbox splash screen: "ThinkVantage Toolbox has stopped working." It keeps popping up every 5 minutes or so. I've updated my ThinkVantage technology drivers to the latest rev. but to no effect. Below is the detail of the error.
Description:

Possible to connect a X230 through Mini Dock Plus Series 3 (with USB 3.0) to 2 pairs of external monitors using 2 x Lenovo Displayport Splitters?
View 1 Replies View Related if its possible to run 2 external monitors on the Lenovo x230.
[MONITOR 1] [laptop screen] [MONITOR 2]
MONITOR 1= connecting via mini display port to HDMI >> to monitor
MONITOR 1= connecting via VGA >> to monitor
I tried the above but I cant get it working on all 3 only - the 1 external 1 laptop screen works. Does X230 grahics card was designed to handle that?
I only bought the one link pro to connect my Thinkpad Yoga 2 to my Samsung monitor with WQHD-Display with 2.560 x 1.440 Pixel. Lenovo told me that this is possible. With DVI I only get the maximum 1920 x 1200 which makes round circles look like eggs...
I need the full resolution.
I there any configuration, cable, display port instead of DVI cable?
(I have the newest, best, DVI cable (forgot the specification for high resolution DVI cable, ports)).
I have the thinkpad w540
ID:

videocard:
nvidia quadro k2100m
Where, where! does it tell me the maximum resolution of an external display using the displayport.
I can't get past BIOS when my W530 is connected to an external hard drive, in my case a WD My Book Essential 3TB (USB 3.0).
Here are some previous threads I've found:
-W520 hangs on boot when a WD SES USB drive is connected
-W520 won't boot with SES device connected to USB
-W530 stuck or won't boot when WD external drive plugged in.
I would be satisfied if I could disable USB Legacy Support in BIOS and move on, but I can't find that option anywhere on my W530.
Here's what I've tried so far:
-Updated BIOS to the latest version (1.11) and updated WD My Book firmware.
-Changed the port (tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0, powered and unpowered) that the drive is connected to.
-Removed everything except my MSATA drive in boot priority. I can't enter BIOS settings when the WD drive is connected so I can't actually exclude it from the boot priority, but I've tried to enable Boot Order Lock.
-Disabled USB options in BIOS (USB UEFI BIOS Support, Always on USB, etc.).Switched between Quick and Diagnostic boot. With Quick it's stuck at the Thinkpad splash screen, with Diagnostic I just get a black screen.
-Tried with both GPT and MBR partitions styles for the external drive.
-Changed between UEFI and Legacy.Tried it with my friend's Thinkpad T520, wouldn't boot either with the drive connected...
Other information:
My Thinkpad is docked to a Thinkpad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 (170W). I haven't bothered to try it undocked, but judging from the other posts it's not likely to fix the issue.
Surprisingly I don't have this issue with my older WD My Book Essential Edition 2.0 1TB (USB 2.0) external hard drive. I don't think it would work to simply remove the drive from boot priority. I've removed my other external hard drive but I can still hear it spinning up during boot (when the Thinkpad splash screen shows up), which suggest that it's still being identified during boot. Is there really no workaround other than "get a different enclosure" or "unplug it when powering on"? Are there any >3TB external hard drives, preferably USB 3.0, that are known to work?
I use the Displaylink dock to connect to an external monitor, but it has suddenly stopped working. The error message said "check connections". I have done so - replaced the digital video cable between dock and monitor with a new one, cycled both dock and monitor on and off several times, but windows can not find an external display.
The Lenovo settings app has been giving me an "updating... " message for 3 days (I have raised a query on that elsewhere) so I can't use that to check out the display problem. I should say the display problem started today, and the "updating.."
I am new to the W540 and I am having problems closing my lid without disconnecting the external monitor
- Using VGA port
- Lid set to do nothing
- Ext monitor cloned
What am I missing ?
If I close the lid, my external goes blank
From a restart or a log on...
close lid - ext goes blank - sound is muted
open lid - un mute sound - close lid - ext works Is that normal ?
whenever I come to this forum I get auto loggred off - Paswword glitch (note: if you uninstall password manager remember to delete extension in chrome)
I am to be the lucky owner of an X1 Carbon soon. There is one thing that I can't find the answer for in the documentation and spec sheets:
- what is the maximum resolution that the mini displayport can handle?
The display that I'm looking to buy is running 2560 x 1080.
I run the W530 with a dual boot setup with Windows 7 and a Ubuntu distro, with the Windows as the default one.
Every time I try to boot and there happen to be a memory stick or a drive connected to the computer, it freezes on boot at the Windows logo. If I unplug the memory stick, everything is fine and it boots up normally.
Ive purchased a Thinkpad 12,7 mm SATA HDD Bay Adapter III and a Samsung 840 EVO, 500GB, SSD. Now when I swapped the DVD drive with the new SSD the same freeze happens ever time I try to boot. Ive tried to connect the new SSD to the computer and formatted it beforehand. But it keeps freezing.
Im not sure if this relates to my dual boot setup or what.
The problems still exist after I do a fresh restore with Lenovo DVDs. Also ran the Lenovo Update & Driver utility.
1. My W530 wont boot or start if I have a External drives plugged in. It stucked at "ThinkPad" screen. I have to unplug the external drive and press/old power button to shut it down. Same thing happened when the laptop is docked.
=> Contacted the technical support today. They told me I have to unplug and plug it back in everytime. I told him that there is a reason I got the dock station so I don't have to unplug and plug my external drive every time.
2. I have no problems booting if thumbs drive plugged in. But it keep "Auto run" everytime I turn on the machine.
I do not have this problem with my W500 and W510.
W530, Intel Core i7-3820, 32G DDR3 RAM, 180G Intel SSD, Windows 7 x64, NVIDIA Quadro K2000M.
I have just switched to Windows 7 Pro and it is already driving me crazy. I use a Lenovo X200 with my Ultrabase. I connect the notebook to an external display via DisplayPort. The Intel GM45 Graphics Driver crashes about twice a minute when the Notebook is docked and connected to the external screen. Than all screens become black and afterwards a message pops up, that says "Intel Graphics Accelerator for XP (R) stopped responding and has recovered". Sometimes the notebook crashes and reboots. That gets really annoying and I haven't found a solution. Bios Version is 3.20. I loaded the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Lenovo Webpage (8.15.10.2302) with Windows 7 SP1 (all updates installed). When I use a standard windows driver and not the Intel driver the external display flickers black every minute once. The newest Intel driver (from the Intel Website) does not work, since it says that it is not released for my notebook.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a training environment using W530 laptops that are enclosed in an area in front of the desks. It is not pratical to get to the computer as it is hidden away and therefore I need to be able to use the dvi cabled external monitor for bios setup, boot order, etc.
Right now the boot options are hidden from the external monitor until windows loads. Then the external monitor becomes active. Any way to bypass the laptop monitor altogether?
I am running a IBM Thinkpad W540 with a Lenovo Ultra Dock Docking Station 170 (Model 40A20170US). I have 3 Asus 23.6" LED HD Monitors (Model VN247HP). These monitors have a standard VGA connection and 2 HDMI ports, By default you are provided a VGA cable and a HDMI-DVI cable. When I plug these monitors into the Ultra Dock no signal is found(including the VGA).
When I plug into the direct VGA port on the laptop, the monitor gets signal. If I use a Mini-DP connection with a Mini-DP-DVI adapter I get signal just fine. If I plug my this monitor into my desktop under HDMI and DVI connections it works just fine.
I have gone into the bios and confirmed that under display the "Video Mode on Dock" is set to Advanced(I tried standard and it did not work any better). I have the latest video drivers for the Intel HD graphics driver (10.18.10.3412) and the NVIDIA Quadro K1100M (9.18.13.4052). The USB ports work just fine, as does the power cable for the docking station. I tried applying the latest firmware update but the program runs and nothing happens. I checked for any other drivers that might have resolve the issue but have not had any luck.
I have a Lenovo R61i. Can it support USB 3.0 for an external hard drive?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use a T440 with WIN8.1 pro machine but for whatever reason the external battery has stopped charging. As this laptop is only 3 months old Lenovo send me a brand new one but the outcome was the same, the charge symbol comes up on my screen when rebooting the machine and shortly after stops completely. I have now had my internal battery pack changed and again no improvement.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently I've got an Thinkpad L540 and it's pretty cool.
But I got a problem that when the laptop is booting while a VGA is plugged in, the boot screen (the screen right after when the laptop turns on) will always be shown on the external Display (Projector). I've already checked the BIOS and it is set to "Thinkpad LCD".
I don't know if it'll be fixed with an BIOS update.
I have a T420 Thinkpad and have 2 external monitors connected; one using VGA into the docking station and one using DVI into the docking station. The laptop does not recognize the mobile PC display as an option when I attempt to extend to a 3rd monitor. The ultimate goal is 3 monitors extended: 2 external and 1 (the laptop display). Is this possible?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have OKR working for me beautifully. However, when I choose "System Recovery", it only presents me with selecting from C: or D: (partitions on the only internal HDD). It does not let me choose backups that it itself created on my external USB HDD ( F: ).
How do I tell OKR to select a backup that it created on an external USB HDD?
I have an y510p. the 1TB 5400 HDD isn't cutting it for me. I have a 256 GB SSD that I would like to swap in there. What are my options?
One Key Recovery tells me my image will be about 105 GB.
Question 1: Can I create the image on an External USB, then swap out the HDD with the SSD, then recover from the external?
Question 2: Is it possible to re-set up the one key recover partition on the SSD after all is said and done? in case in the future, I'd like to get a larger SSD.
How do I switch between internal and external microphone? I have Z500 with one connector for headphones and microphone; when I connect an external microphone there, it's ignored and recording is done automatically from the internal microphone.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a T420 that I'm using with a Mini Dock Series 3 - 90W 433710U docking station. I'm trying to connect to two external monitors (both HP 1965's) using the DVI and VGA outputs on the docking station. From the VGA output, I'm running a VGA (M) to DVI (M) into my monitor. I can only get either the DVI or VGA outputted monitors to work by themselves, but not together. When I connect both external displays, it will switch off one of the external monitors (the first one connected). Both are verified working as external monitors with the T420, just not at the same time. When using the DVI output, I can get dual monitors to work using the ThinkPad display as one monitor and the DVI-connected external monitor as the second. Is there a way to connect to two external monitors from a T420 with a Mini Dock Series 3 - 90W 433710U docking station? Or do you a multi-monitor adapater, such as an Cirago HDX3DV01 to do that?

What build in program in New X1 carbon is for optimizing (Maintainance) SSD? I believe the "defragment tool" provided in control panel is no use for optimizing the SSD?
