I have OKR working for me beautifully. However, when I choose "System Recovery", it only presents me with selecting from C: or D: (partitions on the only internal HDD). It does not let me choose backups that it itself created on my external USB HDD ( F: ).
How do I tell OKR to select a backup that it created on an external USB HDD?
I can't get past BIOS when my W530 is connected to an external hard drive, in my case a WD My Book Essential 3TB (USB 3.0).
Here are some previous threads I've found:
-W520 hangs on boot when a WD SES USB drive is connected
-W520 won't boot with SES device connected to USB
-W530 stuck or won't boot when WD external drive plugged in.
I would be satisfied if I could disable USB Legacy Support in BIOS and move on, but I can't find that option anywhere on my W530.
Here's what I've tried so far:
-Updated BIOS to the latest version (1.11) and updated WD My Book firmware.
-Changed the port (tried both USB 2.0 and 3.0, powered and unpowered) that the drive is connected to.
-Removed everything except my MSATA drive in boot priority. I can't enter BIOS settings when the WD drive is connected so I can't actually exclude it from the boot priority, but I've tried to enable Boot Order Lock.
-Disabled USB options in BIOS (USB UEFI BIOS Support, Always on USB, etc.).Switched between Quick and Diagnostic boot. With Quick it's stuck at the Thinkpad splash screen, with Diagnostic I just get a black screen.
-Tried with both GPT and MBR partitions styles for the external drive.
-Changed between UEFI and Legacy.Tried it with my friend's Thinkpad T520, wouldn't boot either with the drive connected...
Other information:
My Thinkpad is docked to a Thinkpad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 with USB 3.0 (170W). I haven't bothered to try it undocked, but judging from the other posts it's not likely to fix the issue.
Surprisingly I don't have this issue with my older WD My Book Essential Edition 2.0 1TB (USB 2.0) external hard drive. I don't think it would work to simply remove the drive from boot priority. I've removed my other external hard drive but I can still hear it spinning up during boot (when the Thinkpad splash screen shows up), which suggest that it's still being identified during boot. Is there really no workaround other than "get a different enclosure" or "unplug it when powering on"? Are there any >3TB external hard drives, preferably USB 3.0, that are known to work?
The problems still exist after I do a fresh restore with Lenovo DVDs. Also ran the Lenovo Update & Driver utility.
1. My W530 wont boot or start if I have a External drives plugged in. It stucked at "ThinkPad" screen. I have to unplug the external drive and press/old power button to shut it down. Same thing happened when the laptop is docked.
=> Contacted the technical support today. They told me I have to unplug and plug it back in everytime. I told him that there is a reason I got the dock station so I don't have to unplug and plug my external drive every time.
2. I have no problems booting if thumbs drive plugged in. But it keep "Auto run" everytime I turn on the machine.
I do not have this problem with my W500 and W510.
W530, Intel Core i7-3820, 32G DDR3 RAM, 180G Intel SSD, Windows 7 x64, NVIDIA Quadro K2000M.
2 year old Z575 laptop which, immediately after an automatic windows update, refuses to boot either from the hdd or restore DVD (blue screen). Will not boot into safe mode, will not boot from a third party rescue DVD. On boot attempt it will show the option to launch startup repair. The repair shows it is unable to repair with the following problem detail error messages:

Problem signature 2: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem signature 3: unknown
Problem signature 4: 21200196
Problem signature 5: auto failover
Problem signature 6: 7
Problem signature 7: bad driver

Normally would think the hdd failed or that the windows update had caused a software issue but the failure to boot from any Restore/recovery disk makes me think there is another serious issue with the laptop hardware.
Additional note: when attempting to boot from a restore disk, the blue screen appears, error message:
Stop: 0x0000007B (0xF78DA640, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
It's a hard crash which cannot be soft rebooted.
I have also removed the hdd and RAM, reseated and restarted, no change.
Additional note: I was able to access the hdd with an old, ram-based recovery program (SpaceFM) loaded via the DVD drive. The hdd data appears intact. Still won't boot from the hdd or a windows system DVD.
I wanted to change boot sequence to boot from external DVD drive to install Win8. To access the BIOS I hit Enter (empty password I guess) but in the BIOS everything is greyed out: I can't make any changes. What is going on?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo g500 with windows 8.0 Suddenly this month the sound started to stop.
This happens when I start the laptop or if it wakes from standby.
The sound is restored only after a restart. I have already tried microsoft solutions and tested all the services that start with windows start.
I have a new G500 with a 500GB drive and Windows 8.1 preinstalled. I foolishly thought it would be easy to upgrade it to 1TB, which is supposed to be supported by the hardware according to the technical documents. Using OKR I have created a backup USB disk, ensuring that the option to copy the Recovery Partition is checked. All appears fine, I get a message to say that the disk was created successfully. I have not taken the recommended option to delete the recovery partition at this point. When I then replace the internal drive, boot from the recovery USB drive and run the restore, it fails at 42% with the message "There was a problem resetting your PC." No other information is provided and the only option available is to power off the PC. I have tried all three USB ports, 2 different 1TB disks and have tried all the options available. I have also tried two different USB disks for the back up.
This machine is only 2 weeks old but it is starting to drive me round the bend. As it takes the best part of two hours to fail it is a time consuming procedure.
It seems that Lenovo's backup/restore software simply doesn't work. It may be something to do with the BIOS - this machine has a newer version than is available from Lenovo's website.
So I've had this laptop for a while and it has been working well for a few months but last time when I went to turn it on, all my files were deleted.
All my programs were still there, but images, documents and other files are all gone.

I have a U530. I had to restore the laptop to factory configuration. However, after the restore the MMC slot and the USB slots do not work properly. The MMC slot does not work at all. The USB slots will work with newer sticks (3.0?), but not older sticks that I have (which are properly recognized by all other PCs I have running 8.1). I went to the support site and installed the "latest" drivers, but they did not resolve the problem. I tried installing the latest firmware, but it returned "LoadImage() Failed! Access Denied. I've already spent the time to reinstall all my software and really do not have the time to try another reset to factory configuration. How to get my MMC and USB slots working properly.
I had two of the same Windows 8.1 OS on my Y500 (Cloned from original to SSD). Then Last night I tried to 'refresh without affecting your files' option for my OS on the HDD so I have a fresh OS to go back to incase anything happend. then on the Lenovo screen it said that the E: drive was being refreshed as well so I freaked and turned off the computer. NOw I cant access either of the OS's. What should I do? I did do a back up right before and the back up files are still there in a partition I made in the HDD. I used a USB boot of Puppy LInux to see the files on my HDD but it would not let me transfer it to an External Hard Drive. I will Try to install a better linux and try to transfer the OKR files to another Drive.
-how would I go about restoring the back up files if I were to get them on another drive?
My IT dept made some changes to my W530 and now fastboot is not using SSD drive of (16G).I'm planning on using the "Restore" option found under My computer. If I select this option, I pressume all the factory default programs will install and wipe out the rest of the drive correct? If I do this will my fastboot be enabled once again?

I plan to play around with linux on this laptop, but don't want to lose win8. So before I potentially reformat everything away, I'm thinking of making a clone copy of my hard-disk to an external USB drive. The general plan is like this,
1. make copy of laptop HDD to external usb drive
2. muck around with linux - and stupidly reformat everything in the process
3. get fed up with linux and want to go back to windows
4. copy back data from external usb driver to latop HDD
5. return to comfort of win8

I'm having a Lenovo V480 i5-3230M as you know it pre- install with Windows 7 Pro 64Bit & it has license for Windows 8 Pro 64Bit . I think I want to reinstall my computer but the problem now all the recovery set that Lenovo supplies to me is Windows 8 Pro not the Windows 7 Pro. So, if I'm using the One Key button, are they going to restore my computer to Windows 7 Pro or to Windows 8 Pro?

One Key Recovery tells me my image will be about 105 GB.
Question 1: Can I create the image on an External USB, then swap out the HDD with the SSD, then recover from the external?

Is there a collection of drivers and whatnot that would allow me to restore it to factory defaults on my own with a fresh windows installation? I have done so - replaced the digital video cable between dock and monitor with a new one, cycled both dock and monitor on and off several times, but windows can not find an external display.
The Lenovo settings app has been giving me an "updating... " message for 3 days (I have raised a query on that elsewhere) so I can't use that to check out the display problem. I should say the display problem started today, and the "updating.."

Every time I try to boot and there happen to be a memory stick or a drive connected to the computer, it freezes on boot at the Windows logo. If I unplug the memory stick, everything is fine and it boots up normally.
Ive purchased a Thinkpad 12,7 mm SATA HDD Bay Adapter III and a Samsung 840 EVO, 500GB, SSD. Now when I swapped the DVD drive with the new SSD the same freeze happens ever time I try to boot. Ive tried to connect the new SSD to the computer and formatted it beforehand. But it keeps freezing.
Im not sure if this relates to my dual boot setup or what.
I have just switched to Windows 7 Pro and it is already driving me crazy. I use a Lenovo X200 with my Ultrabase. I connect the notebook to an external display via DisplayPort. The Intel GM45 Graphics Driver crashes about twice a minute when the Notebook is docked and connected to the external screen. Than all screens become black and afterwards a message pops up, that says "Intel Graphics Accelerator for XP (R) stopped responding and has recovered". Sometimes the notebook crashes and reboots. That gets really annoying and I haven't found a solution. Bios Version is 3.20. I loaded the latest Intel Graphics Driver from the Lenovo Webpage (8.15.10.2302) with Windows 7 SP1 (all updates installed). When I use a standard windows driver and not the Intel driver the external display flickers black every minute once. The newest Intel driver (from the Intel Website) does not work, since it says that it is not released for my notebook.
