Lenovo ThinkPad L R/SL :: R51 Has Black Screen - Will Not Boot
Apr 26, 2013
My R51 was working perfectly and has been maintained over the 8 years it has been with me. I wanted to upgrade my RAM and downloaded the BIOS update and chipset drivers updates.
After powering down I pulled the old 256MB RAM sets from under the keyboard and bottom of machine. I then inserted the single 2GB RAM into the slot under the keyboard and reassembled it.
Black screen/ no boot
Took out the 2GB replaced the 256MB sets and it worked fine for a few hours as I searched out reasons why the 2GB would not work. 'Suddenly the screen goes black and the system shut down.
It will power up (battery light/ status light green) but screen is black and it will not boot. Fan is running and battery charges. I tried hitting F12 and F8 but nothing.
It's been a yeah that i work on this X1 Carbon laptop and no default. I got a windows update yesterday, i did it and my computer powered off naturally. This morning, i cant start it, It boot well, Lenovo sign appear but nothing after. only black screen with blinking underscore.
Customer has three L440 with Docking station PRO and Samsung 22" S22C45 on DVI  * W7 64BIT Sp1 Lenovo version not VL * Latest BIOS * Latest GFX Driver * All Windows WSUS Updates (Standard Image from lenovo with all Hotfixes) * Power Options set to Performance (lenovo Power manager deinstalled) * Office 2010 SP2, PDF24, APPV client 4.6+ * Dameware 6.X Agent  problem:  Laptop is in docking station with external 22" Samsung DVI and working in Winword, IE or others. Suddenly screen from Samsung turns black (laptop TFT from people who use dual stays on). After 1-10 seconds the samsung screen comes back. We fiest thought this was some RDP issue with other users connecting to the device. (Not the case)  NO > BIOS and GFX is latest and MADE it worser with updating to the latest (happens more often). NO > MHz change from 59/60 or slighty modify did not solve NO > It's not a screensaver problem NO > All three Samsung are from diffrent shippments and even Distributors NO > All three L440 are from different time periods 2-3 Months split
Btw my mobo, cpu, memory i believe were all replaced last time i took it in with this issue... Still getting it consistently: Â Random Black Screens and Random Sleeping: [URL] ... Â Black Screen: [URL] ... Â I thought before maybe its Bluetooth related as sometimes when screen would turn black and then come back, I would get a 'Bluetooth Device Not Discoverable'. So turned off Bluetooth in the BIOS, but still having display/sleep issues.
I removed hte Lenovo Power Manager/PM Driver, and turned off sleeping in the Windows power settings (in every setting including if Low Battery Action).
Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade. Â Â What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be good to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in. Â Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on. Â Â I have tried these: Â 1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen. Â 2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
I have a T420s that I bought a couple weeks earlier, it's a used one, so there's no warranty with it, I used it several days without any issue, I don't use it very frequently as I use my corporate one most of the time.
Someday when I wanted to turn it on, it stacks on a black screen and it beeps one beep then two other, nothing showing on the screen not even the thinkpad logo at startup, I thought it was a RAM related issue so I put the one from my corporate PC but without any luck, so I wanted to see if its graphic controller issue, I plug the VGA cable on the laptop and my TV and here I can see the thinkpad startup logo but after that I see a message on the screen telling :
"Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings. Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter setup" and when I press either one nothing happen at all, still stacks there.
Yesterday i have taken new laptop model - T430. It flashes a black screen for 5 secn when i plugins in/out. Â I have checked refresh rate. It's set to 50.
I've just out my hdd to check whether the ssd will fit there, just checked whether the slot is ok. Then I put back the original HHD very carefully. After that I opened the extra RAM slot, took it out and put it back, also VERY carefully. I didn't harm the laptop in any way.
Then IÂ turned the computer on and it was just a black screen, nothing happening. No indicators lighted up, except for power button. I cannot enter BIOS, no response whatsoever.
I have a ThinkPad X230 Tablet. I tried system restore and safe mode, but none of it works. Â After windows loads with the glowing animation, the login screen does not appear. I cannot open a task manager. I don't know if it's a problem with explorer.exe or what. Â The explorer.exe crashed when I tried to connect to an external hard drive, and I tried to get task manager to open, but it wouldn't open. Â That's when I tried to restart computer, and login screen would not appear. All I have is a black screen with cursor.
I have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD Â 8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
I have the following problem with my computer, lenovo sl 510: when pressing the power button, the computer won´t boot. On the display you can see a black background, in the upper right corner the intel emblem and in the lower left corner you can see "thinkpad". I cannot enter the bios and nothing works. We´ve tried already to press the power button a few times to reset the computer. Didn´t work as well. The keyboard doesn´t accept any hot key combinations.
I'm not able to get past the initial logo screen. It just hangs, pressing the blue thinkvantage button does nothing. F12 likewise. Not able to get any sort of boot menu. Bootable CD in drive lights flash, no boot.
Have tried:
Reseating hard drive
Reseating Dimms, swapping and plugging in one at a time
Removed battery and held power switch down to dischargeÂ
Recently I've got an Thinkpad L540 and it's pretty cool. Â But I got a problem that when the laptop is booting while a VGA is plugged in, the boot screen (the screen right after when the laptop turns on) will always be shown on the external Display (Projector). I've already checked the BIOS and it is set to "Thinkpad LCD". Â I don't know if it'll be fixed with an BIOS update.
Bought a HP 255 G2 (windows 8.1) to be used with Linux Mint.I know that I have to enable Legacy mode in the BIOS and disable the secure boot. I forgot the last part (disable the secure boot). Now I cannot do anything with the laptop, it is not responding to ESC or F10 to get into the BIOS to correct my mistake.I also have created an USB stick with the BIOS flash, but it won't boot from the USB stick to reflash the BIOS.Have it picked up by HP for repair?
I have a little problem with my Acer E1-570.Yesterday I turned it completely off for the first time (I have been using sleep mode before), and when I tried to turn it on again, nothing happens.Power led is on, and HDD led flashes once, but after that it does nothing.I can hear fan spinning for few seconds but after that it's complete silence inside the computer.
When I start up my laptop the Windows splash screen loads but with vertical lines then the screen shows random fuzzy lines and colours and then the screen goes completely black and nothing happens.
At first I restarted and ran in Safe Mode and ran CCleaner which after restarting worked for a short period but then would suddenly go to a black screen and one occasion went to a blue screen with the following message
*** Hardware Malfunction Call your hardware vendor for support NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error *** The system has halted *** .....
i'm having a issue with my santa rosa mbp. I left for dinner and left my notebook on. Naturally the machine went to sleep. After i came back the machine would not boot up, the screen doesn't even turn on. The light on the latch release remains on. When i try a hard reboot, i'm having the same issue. Black screen, doesn't even get to the grey screen with the apple logo. I've tried going on 1 dimm or ram to see if it's a issue with the ram and still doesn't fix it.
When I turn my XPS 15 on, I get a continuous beep code (3 beeps pause 3 beeps pause....), a black screen with the following error message: ERROR 210: CPU Variable MTRR configure failed.
When powering up I get the Acer screen for about 10 sec and then black screen. Immediately before this there was a Windows update for the graphics card, if I remember correctly. I have tried hard power down 3 times but on the 4th time I do not get the message "preparing for automatic repair". I am unable to get into Safe Mode.
Dell Inspiron 7720 (17R SE) approx 2 years old, just started having problems about a week ago when turning on the computer. LEDs flash and dell quickset buttons light up; but then process just dies, screen is black and only the LEDs by the power symbol and on power buttons are lit, never reaches the Dell logo screen, no fan sounds or anything.
At first, hitting the power button to turn off then back on and the second time the boot process would work. Then it failed to do that, so I had to remove the battery, pull the power cord and hold the power button down for 30 sec's, and then it would boot normal. Now even that does not work, just have to keep powering down and re-powering and after a random number of times, 10-30 it finally boots normal, every once in while it will work first try. It seems to be getting worse.Â
I have used the Dell Diagnostic on boot (though it took many tries to get into the ePSA, that did not detect any problems. When I use the Dell Support Advanced, no problems detected, and I specifically rand the Motherboard (which included CMOS test) and those did not find any problems.
If I put the computer in sleep, it comes back fine. It is only when I shut down, laptop just will not boot until I hit power on (fail) / power off repeatedly until finally, as if by luck it works fine.
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 which sometimes ,doesn’t want to boot.
I was using Windows 7,I have changed it to XP ,and it’s happening the same thing.
If I want to restart it , I’m getting a black screen(without any beep) , and when I'm turning it on ,I must press 20-60 times on power button  and maybe it will work.
In the same time ,I can keep it on,3 4 days ,without any problem.
I discovered that, when I want to turn it on (forced),if I press hard in the middle of the keyboard ,around keys "y /u/i/k/j/h" ,I hear a small sound, and after this its booting.
I have an Acer 7535-5020 that will not boot up. A few times prior to this happening it said that Windows was not shut down properly - this was right after a batch of Windows updates was installed. Now, it will not start at all. I have tried pressing every F button in hopes of it catching the Bios - we had noticed a few times that it was not set to start from the hard drive and changed it but for some reason it was not holding the changes, we think.I have googled and found that many Acer's (different models) seem to run into this problem and for many, it seems that something called flashing the Bios takes care of the issue. I would like to know which Aspire 7535 model BIOS I need to use as well. I think there are 2 different models listed.
I've now spent many hours of research and troubleshooting to try to fix this issue, both via external sites through google search and here on Acer site. Â It is the same issue reported many times: Acer 5552g laptop powers on, but does not boot up -I get blank / black screen, fan sound briefly, then idle, and that's the end of. Also, when I do manage to get it going (booting), it seems a totally random event...
My laptop will not boot up, just get the 7 beeps and a black screen. I have done research on this issue and it seems to be an ongoing problem with this laptop. If this is the case, this should be taken care of by Dell.
