I just got my X1 back from lenovo after a full factory recovery (they had to replace my system board). As you can see, I have the new X1, and yet Dragon is missing (it is factory pre-load at this stage, all the lenovo preloaded apps included except for Dragon).

When I try to install it, I I got an error message saying "Installation has stopped. Only entitled systems are allowed to use this software". I called support again and was asked for $69 to troubleshoot this issue.
I have an X1 Carbon, type 20A8.
I'm contemplating upgrading from my Samsung 830 128gb to a Samsung 840 EVO 250gb, on my trusted x120e. The EVO has Full Disk Encryption (FDE) and I am curious to know if:
1. Turning on the FDE is done through the BIOS?
2. Do I need to enter the FDE password each time I reboot (like I have to with the hardware passwds?)
3. Is there a performance penalty (finite but negligible perhaps) for turning on the FDE?
4. Is the FDE significantly greater protection (in a practical sense) than just the (non-encrypting) hardware passwd (which nonetheless is quite effective in that the disk isn't recognized at all if used in another pc)?
5. My X120e is an AMD machine and the Samsung Magician software (most recent versions) works only for Intel machines. If the FDE is controlled through that sw, then I have a problem.
my x230's fan is most of the time running full speed, and returns to regular (almost no noise level) for only a few minutes.I just got this x230 for less than a month and i notice this since most of my colleagues' laptops are all the time quiet compared to mine, which is a lot newer than theirs.Later on I will try the Full HW scan & see how it goes.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad X230. Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging. I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging. But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time. Then I explored the battery settings a little bit. I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity."
It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover?
I bought a "Thinkpad Yoga 20CD-0038GE" in December and everything worked perfectly until last week. Suddenly after boot up the mouse cursor disappeared when Windows showed up (no external mouse, I'm using trackpad/trackpoint). The mouse was completely gone, clicking also didn't work (the mouse cursor was not invisible or similar). Touching the display still works.
I then installed all available Windows and Lenovo updates (Solution Center), but the bug was still there. Strangely enough what seems to bring the mouse back sometimes (!) is to switch to flight mode and then restart the system. But when turning flight mode off and restarting the system, the mouse ist gone again...
I searched the forums but could only find tips with un- and reinstalling all kind of drivers, unfortunately no method worked for me. Today I made tabula rasa and restored Windows completely from scratch with the built-in recovery function. Gladly the mouse was back again and everything was fine at first sight. But as soon as I installed the obvious Windows Updates (dozens to be critical listed as it's normal for a recovered Windows installation) the bug was there again and my mouse was gone...
I`ve just received my new notebook and I had already bought the SSD drive I would like to use with it.In the first moment I thought it would as easy as described hereURL.... but my notebook has the windows 8 and the OKR 8.0 and I can't find the option to create recovery discs.
I found out that I can make a recovery media, a pen drive with at least 16Gb, to recovery the system. I would like to make the same with DVDs. create the recovery discs or to reinstall the windows 8 from scratch with the same license key (not even sure if I have one) the one preinstalled in my notebook?

Its operating system is Windows XP Professional. I have tried to use the "Access IBM" and the "F11" buttons to see if I can find any Factory Restore option, but there is none.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had two of the same Windows 8.1 OS on my Y500 (Cloned from original to SSD). Then Last night I tried to 'refresh without affecting your files' option for my OS on the HDD so I have a fresh OS to go back to incase anything happend. then on the Lenovo screen it said that the E: drive was being refreshed as well so I freaked and turned off the computer. NOw I cant access either of the OS's. What should I do? I did do a back up right before and the back up files are still there in a partition I made in the HDD. I used a USB boot of Puppy LInux to see the files on my HDD but it would not let me transfer it to an External Hard Drive. I will Try to install a better linux and try to transfer the OKR files to another Drive.
-how would I go about restoring the back up files if I were to get them on another drive?
Fingerprint reader was working perfectly fine but I couldn't get it to work with my domain account. After trying some troubleshooting, there was a suggestion to delete the drivers and reinstall it. So I go into device manager and uninstall the fingerprint reader drivers. The problem is now I can't find the fingerprint reader driver! It's not in the lenovo driver page.. I tried Windows drivers update and everything else but still not working. Where do I download the fingerprint drivers?

The IEEE 1394 device is now completely missing from device manager. It seems like hardware failure. BIOS reset and factory restore did not resolve the matter.
I have contacted a local service depot so the machine will go in for warranty service next week (after labour day weekend) if not resolved beforehand.

Also there is a second "unknown device" with location "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" are these related or is this a second issue ?
On my old W520, it had a setting for making the battery last as long as possible. E.g. it didnt charge it to 100%.In my W530, which has windows 8, I can find no such option. In fact, all the Lenovo tools which came with the W520 dont seem to exist on the W530 (eiter because they dont have them for Windows 8, or they dont have them for the W530, dont know which).
The only lenovo tools I have are th "solution senter" from red icon in the task bar (which has a battery icon, but the only thing it does is say "batter is in good condition", there are no options or settings, and the thinkVantage button, which just brings up somehting like some shortcuts to control panel items - no Lenovo tools (just things like update drivers, warranty infomration, keyboard settings etc).

What happened to all the tools which came with windows 7, including the thing which told you how fast the processor was running, the thing to change your printer etc. with different locations?
I have been trying to solve this issue for the last few hours. I recently bought a Lenovo Ideapad y510p (Windows 8.1). Normally Dragon Assistant comes preinstalled on this laptop. It is even advertised by several retailers such as Best Buy, Amazon, and Costco (same sku). However, I can not find this software anywhere on my laptop.
After talking to three different Lenovo support technicians, we came to the conclusion that the software was lost with the windows 8.1 update. They still did not know of any way to obtain Dragon Assist, as it is not sold by Nuance and is only a preinstalled software.
I recently acquired a new Thinkpad W530 with Windows 7 Pro.
I want to immediately replace the 500gb main drive with a larger one. I plan to do this by imaging the system partition of the current drive to an external USB hdd, and then then writing the image to the larger one after it's installed in the W530.
My question: Can I then just store the original drive away as is, to use for recovery (should the need arise), in lieu of creating recovery media now?
It seems pretty clear the answer should be "yes," but since I've always used XP up until now I'm wondering if there are any kinds of Win 7-specific watchouts (maybe licensing-rleated?) that would keep things from being as simple as popping the original drive back in the main hdd slot to get things back to exactly where they are today?
I have made a Recovery disk on a USB Flash Drive using the Lenovo “create a recovery disk” in the Lenovo Solution Centre software.
The USB Drive seems to have been created successfully. It shows in Windows Disk Management as cbd_drive (D 14.48GB NTFS Healthy (Active, Primary Partition).
When I interrupt the boot with F12, The USB Drive comes up as an option (USB HDD: Sandisk Ultra), but when this option is selected, the screen flashes briefly, then returns back to the boot options again, so the USB drive will not boot properly – the boot fails and reverts back to the boot options screen.
The root directory of the USB contains the following -
BOOT (Folder)
FactoryRecovery (Folder)
usb.tag
winRE.wim
I have read other threads on here, and think I have covered the issues raised there. This is the first time I have used a USB flash drive as a recovery disk, so I may be missing something very basic.

I recently ordered a new Carbon X1 20A7 for a VP here and noticed that it, as well as all the other sets we receive for the T430's, W530, etc all contain 4 things - 3 discs and a small pamphlet. The Pamphlet explains that the discs should be labeled 1 2 3 and all (Ive checked an order of 100 T430s and the first 17 boxes are all wrong) contain 2 x #1 and a #2 - I have looked in the old lab and found older shipments that all contain similar 1 1 2 instead of 1 2 3 .

I want to upgrade my S230u with the 500GB HDD to a 7mm 2,5" 480GB SSD (Corsair Force GS 480GB SATA3).
I am wondering how can I later on clone my OS from the HDD to SSD? Is it possible to plug the SSD in over USB, use some tool to clone the entire disk (including the recovery partition) and then simply switch to SSD?
Also, once I do that, how do I disable express cache and ideally disable using the built-in 24GB SSD? I am not interested in IRST as I tend to use hibernation a lot.
I just bought a used Red E520-1143CTO in brand new condition, from someone who screwed up the OS (It had Windows 7 Home Prem 64). A lot of the drivers were missing and not working correctly. The restore partition is still there when I look in My Computer but when i reboot and press F11, I never get the option to access it. There was no Lenovo software installed to create a repair disk and of course, it didn't come with any software. Is there a way to access it?
I also have access to another E520 that is almost exactly the same (It just has the older i3 processor). I tried to create a repair disk from it and use it on this computer but it says the Windows versions are not compatible or the Repair software is not compatible with this version.
So I'm trying to figure out if there is an alternative way to access this restore partition. I've installed a company version of Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit on this machine and I've got most of the drivers installed and it appears to be working fine. But I have three that have yellow exclaimation points:
1) Base System Device
2) SM Bus Controller
3) Unknown Device
I've been downloaded drivers from this site, but I can't can't figure out which drivers I need to clear this list. So, how to get it restored to factory default. If not, I'd like to know what drivers I need to clear this list. I want it to look like brand new because I was going to give it to someone as a gift. I just don't see the on screen prompts for the wifi button (doens't work), volume, and brightness like the other machine. I'd like to get all that working.
when I try to install the Windows 8 copy I got with my Lenovo S440 in a virtual box environment
the installation procedure hangs on the windows splash screen. I never saw a Windows 8 installation
procedure before, so I booted my laptop from the installation media to check if it is corrupted.
This works fine. A loading dot circle is displayed under the logo after a few seconds and than after quiet
a while the lenovo wizard is shown... so it has to be an issue with the virtual box.

I don't have the recovery partition on my system anymore, but would like to reset my Ideapad Yoga 13 to factory status. Is this possible somehow? All the guides I've seen assumed that my recovery partition was still intact.

I see the "LENOVO" volume as Drive D, and it appears to have the restore tools, but I cannot figure out how to get to One Key Recovery. I've tried rebooting while pressing F2 or F11 repeatedly; F2 gets me to BIOS, F11 doesn't seem to do anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased this Ideapad Z50-70 laptop two days back. It was DOS based so I had to install Windows 8.1 OS myself. After installing the OS, I installed all the drivers for this laptop.
The display of the laptop is set to Full HD resolution i.e. 1920*1080. However, it doesn't look as sharp and crips as a normal HD display should be. The text and other things looks blurred. Also, the contrast of the screen doesn't seem well. Though the resolution is set to Full HD, I'm not feeling the quality smoothness and sharpness of the full HD display.
