I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and run Windows Visa Home Edition.I wanted to restore my laptop to its factory settings but the Recovery Manager wouldn't work. When I clicked on it it would just restart the computer without anything else happening. I then right clicked on the computer >manage> disk manager and made the recovery partition active. When I rebooted the computer it began showing:Bootmgr is missingPress Ctrl+Alt+DeleteWhich of course leads back to the same message after te computer reboots. I can't access F8 key. Only F10 (Bios) works. I don't have a recovery or installation CD as it didn't come with the laptop when I purchased it.Is there anyway I can change the active partition back to the C drive, this disabling the recovery partition? I read that it was possible to access disk manager from cmd prompt window, but I don't know how to access it since the F8 key won't work (makes just a bipping noise when pressed)?I am also out of the country so can't mail my laptop to HP to have it fixed.

what of an extensive issue on a dv2710us on Vista.
One of the crippling elements of this whole situation is this computers CD drive is not working. Windows was not recognizing a CD/DVD drive present, which is what I was trying to fix. So I accessed the recovery manager by pressing F11 on bootup to have Windows install all of the original files, but not format the C drive. Well it began formatting the C drive, and a progress bar showed up so I powered down the PC before it got past 0%. When I powered it back up, I get a "Bootmgr is missing" message and am unable to get past that.
After doing some research online, I accessed the recovery manager and opened Command, and did a Bootrec /fixboot, the operation completed and upon restarting, it booted straight to the recovery manager. I was no longer able to boot to the C drive. I did a little more research and opened up Command again, and used DISKPART to make the C drive active.
This time after rebooting the cmoputer, I am once again given the Bootmgr is missing message. Not only that, I am unable to press f11 to get to recovery manager anymore.
At this point, I mainly need to access the harddrive so I can backup some improtant files, and then do a full reformat of the C drive. I have a disc of Ubuntu I had the idea of loading up to access the C drive, however since the DVD drive is not recognizing discs I am unable to use it. I also downloaded a Vista recovery disc from here and placed it a USB stick drive. Upon booting up I can press f9 to select multi boot options. When the drive is inserted the options are Laptop harddrive, and USB diskette. The USB diskette option is not present when I have the stick drive removed. I select to boot from USB diskette and the computer proceeds with a black screen as if it may boot, but then returns to the initial boot up screen (where you can use F keys to access BIOS, etc.) and then got to Bootmgr is missing.

Yesterday I launched the recovery manager to re-install an out of the box version of Windows 7.
At 1% of the installation I got the following error Error code: 0xe0ef0003
After this error, I could not start Windows anymore BOOTMGR missing
I tried to press escape and then F11, but once again the process failed
I had also created recovery CD's ( in Total I have 4 ), I try to reinstalled with them by going to F9 and putting the CD to be boot first.
I get the following error "The system recovery media does not support this computer. You are not able to restore this system with the media".

I just got my X1 back from lenovo after a full factory recovery (they had to replace my system board). As you can see, I have the new X1, and yet Dragon is missing (it is factory pre-load at this stage, all the lenovo preloaded apps included except for Dragon).

My laptop had been acting funny in the last few weeks. In some cases it would give a quick blue screen then restart. In order to fix that, I attempted to do a system restore with the Dell Factory Image. However, I received the "Bootmgr is missing" upon the system rebooting. Are there any solutions out there that do not require a Windows 7 re-installation disk, I do not have one. If the solution does require a DVD, where can I order one. My laptop is only two years old, so I do not believe that the hard drive is dying.

I have a pavilion dv7-6b50ei notebook pc bought 2012. It always gives a command prompt pop up which doesn't stay long enough to read. I also felt there's a virus on it which my anti-virus couldn't solve so I tried factory resetting but when I restart and press F11 it gives an error(something like a boot.. is missing). so I tried my recovery discs. Disc 1 of 4 ran fine but disc 2 keeps stopping with an error.
Now the laptop doesn't load as I think the OS has been formatted during the recovery and don't know what to do. I feel disc 2 is bad too because it also gave an error while trying to copy it to a USB pen drive. I have also tried an external dvd and run the hp test on the hard drive; the hard drive passed the test. If I can get a new set of recovery discs, it would solve my problem.

I have an HP Pavilion G6 that I purchased in December 2012. Yesterday I decided to get a new HDD to upgrade it and start fresh. It's a 1TB SSD+HDD hybrid by Seagate. It installed without a hitch, and I used my HP recovery CDs to do a factory format of the disk.It finishes, reboots, but instead of rebooting to the HP Windows 8 setup screens, it goes to what looks like Windows 8 safe mode with a box containing the date, time, and it says something along the lines of "HP diagnostics driver installation" with an OK. Clicking that or not makes it disappear, and there's a command prompt bar at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. The screen changes to an HP screen that begins to install drivers. It finishes, and reboots to a black screen that says "no boot device detected, please install OS."I ran a check of the drive and it's fine. I swapped my regular drive back in, and it loaded up fine. In fact that's what I'm using right now to type this. The boot order was never changed in the BIOs. If it were the connector failing I doubt it would load the drive that's always been in the computer. Loading up the newly formatted drive in an external enclosure shows that Windows 8 is indeed on it, but on a 93GB partition even though the drive is 1TB.

Pavilion G6-SS40SA running Windows 8. I am working on this computer for a friend. Somehow, he managed to get an app on there which ran at startup and resulted in it slowing down internet access to a crawl as well as making the machine virtually unusable . In an effort to get rid of it, he attempted running restore. However, neither destructive or non-destructive options would work. He was getting error messages - firstly 'Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing', followed by 'The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again'. I managed to locate the program that was causing the problem, and uninstalled it. He asked me to reset the computer to factory state, but unfortunately, this will not work - it starts up, warns that all data will be lost and I confirm that I want to proceed. It then appears to start the process, but almost immediately ends shows a message saying that no changes have been made. Where do I go from here?

I recently had my hard drive crash so I just replaced it. I used the Windows 7 64bit disk for my OS and loaded the missing drivers to get it functional. I am missing key HP programs for everything else ie: Beats, fingerprint scanner, top row keyboard controls (screen dimmer, volume). The only HP programs I could find are HP Security Assistant and HP Simple pass. Simple pass still says it cannot locate the scanner.

I have a Pavilion dv7-1103ea laptop which I need to restore to factory settings. I created a recovery disk from the system but it has become corrupted. I gave my laptop in for repairs to a local repair shop. My laptop is now working but it is not in the same format as when I purchased it. Is there any way of restoring the laptop to its original format?

I have a "HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-n005eo Ultrabook" running windows 8.1. This last Friday my computer got stuck and when I tried to reboot it said that something was wrong with windows and gave me the alternatives to fix it. I first tried to backup trough the program but got a Bluescreen (System thread exception not handled (iaStorA.sys). I then tried to just restore the Windows part (not effecting my files) but I got Blue screen. I then moved on to a full system reset (with my recover DVD that I fortunately had made just a couple of days before the crash) but after completed all 5 discs the computer rebooted and told that the system restore wasn't completed so I tried again, but I got the same problem.
The last thing I have tried is to make a factory reset and now (after the 5 disc) it started to reboot and a information that told that HP software were about to get installed came up. I left the computer to finish the install and when I checked later on it was turned of so i turned on the PC and after the message "Wait" I got Blue screen again (System thread exception not handled (iaStorA.sys)) and the same happens when I restart the computer.

I have been given an Acer 6930G by a family member to setup. After realising there's 0 discs included with the laptop, the Acer pop up message tells me I have to make my own factory default image. I have successfully made it on 2 DVDs, my question is now in the manual there is nothing about how to use it, I was wondering if anyone can share any insight to me as to how it works.
Basically I know it is probably a bootable DVD as the root of the DVD suggests (several "BOOT" files) I was wondering how it actually looks like? I haven't tested it yet as the user was extremely desperate to get it running so I had to give it up the moment the DVDs were made.
If I put the DVD in and select to boot from it at start up (before getting into windows) does it take me to some sort of custom screen where I can SELECT that I want to reformat and restore the laptop? I want to know what options I am given and I can only assume that it's the same for most laptops.
And I can only assume again, that if I factory restore it, it will come back with Vista activated and all the initial bloatware again, along with all the drivers for it (so I don't need to go track them down).
This is all I need to know, I wish I can test it but I can't even get the laptop back now (until it breaks ...)
If someone can post their experiences with it I will be grateful, this is just more for reassurance than anything, and confirm my assumptions? Many thanks in advance!
EDIT: I have discovered that I can launch that recovery app by pushing ALT+F10, I have managed to wrangle the laptop temporarily to test and have discovered that I can choose from 2 back up options, but I dare not go any further, can someone tell me the next steps? One says factory default, and the other is user's backup.
I can guess that if I choose the first option, factory default, it'll ask for the DVDs I have created? And the 2nd option will restore a backup I made selecting the user option on the recovery app.

I just bought a used Red E520-1143CTO in brand new condition, from someone who screwed up the OS (It had Windows 7 Home Prem 64). A lot of the drivers were missing and not working correctly. The restore partition is still there when I look in My Computer but when i reboot and press F11, I never get the option to access it. There was no Lenovo software installed to create a repair disk and of course, it didn't come with any software. Is there a way to access it?
I also have access to another E520 that is almost exactly the same (It just has the older i3 processor). I tried to create a repair disk from it and use it on this computer but it says the Windows versions are not compatible or the Repair software is not compatible with this version.
So I'm trying to figure out if there is an alternative way to access this restore partition. I've installed a company version of Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit on this machine and I've got most of the drivers installed and it appears to be working fine. But I have three that have yellow exclaimation points:
1) Base System Device
2) SM Bus Controller
3) Unknown Device
I've been downloaded drivers from this site, but I can't can't figure out which drivers I need to clear this list. So, how to get it restored to factory default. If not, I'd like to know what drivers I need to clear this list. I want it to look like brand new because I was going to give it to someone as a gift. I just don't see the on screen prompts for the wifi button (doens't work), volume, and brightness like the other machine. I'd like to get all that working.

I bought a Dell XPS13z (L321X) in near future. But It's broken because of an Accident. The screen is broken completely. Probably it will be repaired after insurance procedure finished. Just because of it will take time and I need a computer I bought the new XPS13z again.
I have created a Factory Restore USB Flash Disc for my first laptop. Can I use this USB Flash Recovery for Both Laptops. Or Should I create the new one for the second laptop. They both are XPS13z (L321X) with same hardware. If the recovery usb includes same software I want to keep only one Recovery USB for Both.

managed to overwrite the PQService on my Acer Aspire E380. Acer very promptly sent me recovery DVDs for my model, one System DVD and one Recovery DVD. Some of what I've read here confuses me a bit, however, and makes me afraid to use these discs if I should ever need to.
To sum up my question as succinctly as I can: if PQService has been deleted/overwritten, will system/recovery DVDs issued by Acer itself (sent from the company) still function, or will they do me no good? I'm asking you guys because, frankly, my experiences with Acer's support have been less than stellar.
