Lenovo X240 Series ThinkPad :: 6 Keys On 2 Top Rows Of Keyboard Not Working
Jul 8, 2014
Knocked half a glass of water over keyboard yesterday. Turned off & wiped away straightaway. No problem re-booting etc but now some kets along top 2 rows not working. After a day - do you think there's any chance these will spring back into life?Do Lenovo supply any on-site repair options (at a cost obviously).....can't spare time at moment to send away - even for a couple of days.
I have a ThinkPad X240 laptop with Windows 8.1 Enterprise x64 installed. Sound plays just fine from the laptop's speakers, and when I plug external speakers into the laptop's 3.5mm audio port they work just fine too. when the laptop is docked in my Ultra Dock 90W docking station and the external speakers cable is plugged into the dock's audio port, no sound is heard. If I'm playing music through the laptop's speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the dock's audio port no sound is heard. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the object of having an audio port on the Ultra Dock.
The Ultra Dock has (I believe) the latest firmware installed (version 2.22.000) and I have the latest audio drivers installed: in Device Manager > Sound, video and game controllers > Realtek High Definition Audio > Driver version is 188.8.131.5288 which is the latest available from Lenovo Support downloads. What do I need to do to get the Ultra Dock's audio port working? I mistakenly posted this message on the "X Series tablet ThinkPad Laptops" board.
The numbers 1-4 on my Y580 keyboard don't work anymore. I only realized this recently as I had been using a separate USB keyboard for some time. I've tried all sorts of things - uninstalling and uninstalling the keyboard drivers in Device Manager, reinstalling the BIOS, unchecking all the boxes under the accessbility options, scanned the computer for malware...but nothing seems to work.
I've also installed Windows 8.1 and replaced my HDD with an SSD...
I just got the x120e and I already went through and fixed it auto-brightening itself. After I hit the Fn + Home and adjusted it to my preference. It was not on the charger when I did that and I was in a darker room so I had the brightness down lower. Later on in the day, I plugged it in to charge and I went to make it brighter. The brightness is not changing however. All the oher Fn + F keys are working. Just not the two for brightness. The weird thing is, I shut the computer, waited for it to enter sleep mode then opened it up again and it was really bright and I had to pretty much squint, but again the keys were not working to lower it. I closed it again and opened it and it is again dimmer. The keys still aren't working.
I have lenovo s540 . I installed own original version win 8.1. I have problem with some functional keys. Especially with F4- Microphone muteF8 - manage wireless connection F9 -settingsF10- win searchF11 - view programs that are openedF12 - view all the programs
I think thats I need driver but I dont know which .
I have a brand new W540 with Windows 8.1 running. Some Fn-Keys are working, for example Fn+F2 for the volume. But I have some keys which are not working: Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 should change the LCD brightness.
Why these keys are not working? All updates are applied (Lenovo and Windows)...
I've got 2 separate but really annoying issues with my W540 20BH:
- display brightness keys not working: when waking up from Hibernation mode, sometimer (really, randomly!) the display brightness keys (Fn+F5/F6) don't work.... either if the display brightness is stuck on max, min or an intermediate level...Is there a way to shut down and restart the process which commands the Fn keys?
- audio channel commutation gets stuck. Normal behaviour of the audio configuration is: 1) speaker volume disabled, mic disabled 2) when plugging in a 4-pin headset, headset's volume is on, headset's mic is switched on; speaker volume is still disables. 3) when unplugging the headset, speakers' volume is still 0
After each boot, the audio channel is at 0, but doesn't commute to the headset when plugged in! I have to open Configuration Panel, realtek properties. With this window open, unplug and re-plug the headset. Now, the volume has its normal behaviour.
Any better way to configure audio channels and evenments, which is able to bypass realtek's manager?
I turn on my laptap and it start up normally. All are loaded up in the homescreen except the cursor which keeps on loading ( its like when you refresh). All keys are not working except to the CapsLock key, the touchpad and trackpoint ( color red) are working.
I remove the power source and battery to shut it down but it doesn't shut down! Now it is running for 5 minutes, and the screen still ON, continue to refresh. How to shut this down and restart.
I just got a brand new thinkpad X240, with 500G HD, Win8. I installed a Win7 on this new SSD, then replaced original 500G HD in X240 with this new SSD. However, after I replaced, computer cannot boot , it got stuck with BOOT MENU section, no matter you choose any options..In the Boot Menu, I saw boot devices: one is my new SSD. I click it, it does not work. I tried several times. (PC can recognize my SSD, just dont know why it cannot read it.)
I am sure this SSD is working, since I tested on different computers, they can boot successfully.
I bought my X240 from a Lenovo authorised distributor (the one that comes with a svc centre) 3 wks ago. They told me that the one I bought does not come with in-built battery and so it came with a 6-cell batt. i asked why and they said its this way. i bought the set. Have I been lied to? i have not come across a set on the internet without powerbridge !!
We bought 12 X240 pc's and installed a Windows 7 64bit OS on them. We are having problems on several laptop (5 so far) that they freeze several times a day. The mouse icon changes in the processing icon, you can still move your mouse but can't click anything or even press ctrl + alt + del. Have to long press the power key to get them to power off.
I already read that there were problems with the fingerprint reader software, uninstalled it but still having the problems (fingerprint reader is disabled in BIOS). Also upgraded the fingerprint reader software to the latest version on another pc, but same problem.
Ran solution center on one of the PC's, didn't find any problems. Ran system update and updated all to the latest version. Also tried to change the power settings to Performance mode in windows. But problem keeps coming back.
I tried installing the latest Intel graphics driver, but it fails to start stating that you need a version from the manufacturer. No error messages in the windows event logs.
For some reason, I cannot get the backlit keyboard to work on my new X1 Carbon Touch. It lights up upon powering up and then will not turn on no matter how many times I hit the space bar. I don't see an option to enable/disable anywhere either. Am I missing a driver?
My Lenovo Labtop X240 /w Windows 8.1 (x64) can't Hibernate (immediate resume after Hibernate). It success for Sleep, Shutdown, but when I set Hibernate by close lid, Power button, or Hibernate on Menu. Windows try to Hibernate, and immediate recover to windows.
Now, i done for -Upgrade Windows, Driver, Lenover, Intel -run MSconfig set "Selective start up" turn off "non Microsoft services" and Disable "Start up services" -Run Power troublesshooting on windows
I am now using Lenovo X240 touch screen model and I am trying to charge my lap top but after plugged in, the red light on top cover are keep blinking, what does it means ??? I have check batter one has 97% and 2nd battery has 98%, but I still want to charge it.... what should I do ..???
I have a new X240. It has a sim card slot on the right side. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit.
it seems that the x240 does not recognize wwan hardware. I can't find it in the device manager. It doesn't connect to any network when I insert a SIM card. Also, no unknown devices show up in the device manager. I installed the following drivers in an attempt to fix the issue:
-Ericsson N5321gw wireless WAN -Sierra Wireless 7355 - Gobi 5000
... but no success.
I also tried running commands in cmd window to check the status of the wwan:
-netsh mbn sh int -netsh mbn sh cap int=*
... but I always get the same message: "Mobile Broadband Service (wwansvc) is not running"
I am starting to think that having a sim card slot does not neccessarily mean that the x240 is Mobile Broadband capable.
I made the mistake of upgrading my X240 to Windows 8.1, and now the sleep function won't work properly. I've updated all of the drivers and I've been on the phone with Lenovo support to no avail. Everything worked perfectly before the 8.1 upgrade.
When I close the lid now, the screen goes off, but the computer doesn't go to sleep; if you open the lid, the screen comes back on immediately. If the lid is closed for a while, and is then reopened, the login screen comes up. But in the Windows 8.1 settings, it is set to NOT show the login screen. If the lid is closed for a long time, the computer will shut down completely.
If you go to the Windows menu and click on "Sleep," the screen will go dark although it's clear the computer is still running. Pressing the on/off button does nothing. The only way to get the screen to come back on is to shut the computer down completely and restart it.
I tried uninstalling the Lenovo Instant On Beta program, but without that, closing the lid shuts off the screen with no way to wake it up, the same thing that happens by clicking Sleep on the Windows menu. So it appears that the Instant On Program partially overrides whatever bad behavior is being caused by Windows.
What driver, software, or settings could be causing this? I've looked at various threads about sleep issues, but none of them seem to apply to my situation, or the solutions they recommended (like unchecking the power management features on some of the drivers) didn't solve the problem.
I've got an x240 with bios enabled fingerprint and the latest fingerprint driver/utlity installed, a fingerprint registered and all the options checked for fingerprint to be integrated and boot.
When the laptop is powered off the fingerprint swipe doesn't boot the machine, no LED on it, it's dead. How do I make fingerprint power on work? When the laptop is in sleep mode the fingerprint swipe doesn't boot the machine, no LED on it, it's dead. How do I make fingerprint resume from standby work? When win7 boots and it's at the CTRL+ALT+DEL login screen the fingerprint LED is green, a fingerprint swipe does nothing. How do I get single sign on to work?Only when I manually hit CTRL+ALT+DEL will the Fingerprint graphic then show on screen, at that point the swipe works. How do get the fingerprint to log me in without any manual intervention? The x201 I had previously did all this without an issue.
Is there anyway to disable the center scroll button on the x-240 trackpad. I keep hitting it when I try to use the left mouse button. I never use the scroll button and want to get rid of it. The new trackpad's design is horrible with the undefined buttons.
