I would love to use the tz as a gps unit in my car but alas I don't want to shell out the extra cash for wwan access too.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a FW and I read the topic about VT which don't support FW series. When I look intel's page I saw that my processor ,core 2 duo p8700, supports Intel VT. how can I activate?
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs you are very well aware... attempts at enabling hardware VT by 'hacking' the Insyde H2O EFI bios have not gone very far. While these has been success (kudos to Igor Levicki for pursuing it) with the other series of VAIO, the Z series has not been hackable till date and thus one of the most important and supported/advertised feature of the included Intel processors (P8400, P8600, P8700, P9500 and P9600 -> All Supporting VT as indicated by their official Intel pages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5)
Microsoft has just release Windows 7 RC (the best version of Windows, as claimed by some of the most popular blogs in the world) and one major feature in its toolset is the Windows XP Mode [url] and it is clearly indicated by Microsoft in their download page (Windows Virtual PC: Download) that for this important software compatability feature to work, hardware VT must be enabled and supported by the computer.
Since hardware VT is a feature of the Intel processors, us VAIO owners do not see Sony's logic in disabling it entirely without giving the owners of the machine any choice to enable it at a later time. Even if it is a unsupported feature as far as Sony goes, why cripple it? Why not have an option in the bios which would allow users to enable it by themshelves?
We hope that Sony listens to us and releases a bios update which either:Enables VT by default.Gives a option in the BIOS to enable it.This affects almost the entire lineup of laptops (not sure about desktops) in the VAIO series. Sony stands to loose nothing but rather gain another feature in its cap for being pro consumer and listening to the needs.
Just got a Vaio Z, which I love in many ways -- except for the trackpad. My old Dell E1505 had a trackpad in which it would scroll more or less based on how quickly you moved your finger up/down the right side of it. So, you could use it to get to the top/bottom of very large documents in a single fast swipe.
Meanwhile, the Z's trackpad only seems to move a fixed number of lines with each swipe. This is a HUGE downgrade, as it takes forever to move through a large document.
Is there any way to get variable-line scrolling working on a Z trackpad?
After searching all day for Drivers because the official Sony site said my vaio cant run Win7, blah, blah, etc, etc, I finally decided to drop by here and fount this list

I finally was able to figure out what was needed in order for the touchpad to work but dont know which file is need to enable FN keys for brightness to work. My Vaio series is NR (NR160E)
I have bought a Vaio VGN-Z21XN/B laptop. I have installed Windows Server 2008 64-bit on it, but I would like to inform me how to enable Virtualization.
Has anyone tried enabling Virtualization on Z series?

Use at your own risk

I recently acquire a VGN-SZ491N from ebay and since I don't really like Vista, so I wipe out the hard drive and install Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. I followed the following steps and everything works fine except for the video card portion.
A. Install Windows 7
B. Install missing / unknown drivers
C. Reboot and install the utilities, in the following order:
1. Sony Utils DLL
2. Sony Shared Library
3. VAIO Event Service
4. Setting Utility Series
After Step C, I reboot my laptop and then able to install Nvidia driver and upgrade the video card from generic one to Nvidia at Speed mode.
But when I manually switch from speed to stigma, nothing happen, so I would like to know what should I do to enable the Intel video card portion and make it work in Windows 7.
I`m very happy to have found a way to enable VT.
If you doenst know what VT is - YOU DONT NEED IT ^^
At first i was a little bit afraid, to take the risk to hack the Bios, but finally i take it.
Not only VT works now fine, also the advanced Bios Setup Screen, let me finetune everything i ever dream from. You could tweak many things, dont do there anything, if you doent know what you do.
Ok, back to Topic:
After some Internetresearch i found this link:
[url]
Please follow the instructions exactly. I have do also the same reverse for testing - you could go back, if you want.
But: with every Bios tweaking - you lose your warranty.
Here my Statement on this Blog. PLEASE, look there there if your Model is supportet - FIRST.....................
Phoenix BIOS Editor (2.2) Open R0122S5.WPH, Enabled Intel VT:“setup table”-->"intel"-->"cpu control sub-menu"-->"merom cpu control sub-menu" -->"Intel Virtualization Technoloy" ,Modify "Disabled" "*" to "Enabled",Enabled AHCI: “setup table”-->"intel"-->"ICH control sub-menu"-->"integrated device "-->"ich sata pata control"-->“AHCI Configuration”,modify "Disabled" "*" to "Enabled",
See Figure 2 below,in these two places will be able to successfully Enable the VT and AHCI functions can be a do?You Moren so successful ?
There were many SR4 laptops sold in May 2009 in China suffering the problem of stopping responding randomly and frequently, which caused quite a lot of hot threads discussing.
Sony identified the problem as some bugs in BIOS firmware and hence released an update to fix this.

As a "side effect" some customers noticed that Sony has officially enabled the option of VT in BIOS settings!
This is quite unbelievable according to the usual style of Sony. Maybe it is because of the pressure from XP mode in the upcoming Windows 7.
Unfortunately the BIOS update still does not give SLIC 2.1 so to activate Windows 7 we still need SLIC 2.1 from Lenovo or other brands.
Simple way to enable VT, Before you think this is a one size fit all solution please be sure to check Intel Website if your Processor is VT Capable in the first place.

I have successfully enabled VT on my Acer 8930G laptop using bios 1.13 in windows vista 32. All credit goes to Marcan from this link [url] and the posters who have made this possible. Tjeute post below explains how PLEASE NOTE FOLLOW DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY IF IN DOUBT PLEASE ASK
This is what I did in an Windows environment: downloaded the Bios from the Acer site. I downloaded the 1.13 bios, and ran the Insideflash utility. Don’t know what the differences are between 1.10 and 1.13, but the Windows Eperience Index gave higher rates on the CPU and the GPU parts.
After flashing I filled in a backup name (f.i. c:ackupbios.fd) in the platform.ini file and executed the Insideflash again, but did not flash the Bios this time. After exiting Indsideflash the backup file had appeared on the desired location.
Then I installed Python 2.6.2 for Windows. I copied the vtenbable.py script as well as the backup bios to the Python directory. After that I opened an elevated DOS prompt, went to the Python dir (cd c:python26) and typed “vtenable.py backupbios.fd 8930gvt-bios.fd”.
Finally I copied the 8930gvt-bios.fd to the Insideflash directory, erased the supplied bios file and renamed 8930gvt-bios.fd to KM2_113.fd. Then I executed Insideflash for the last time and flashed.
the blutetooth butten in front of my computer has broken, the little switch inside is gone, i ripped it out because it was caput :P
well i used to have this app to enable and disable bluetooth in windows xp and vista but this app does not work in windows 7
it is a acer aspire 5052
and if anybody could tell witch to connections on the board i should short to enable bluetooth that would be nice to, because i will put on some wires :P
or an app that will work for win7
I want to enable Intel VT on my HP Pavillion DV2842SE. I need to do this to run a 64 Bit Guest OS in VMware/Sun Virtual Box. Currently, the Phoenix BIOS (version F2E dated 12-2008) hides this feature. I have tried flashing to older BIOS versions just in case with no luck. My Proc is Intel Core 2 Duo T 5600, Mobo is Wistron 30CD, INtel GM 965 Chipset, 4 GB RAM, running Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. I had previously installed XP Prof 64 Bit on this laptop and got Intel VT turned on(so it is clearly supported), but cannot do it when I returned to factory installed Vista Home Premium 64 Bit (some software was not available for XP like Youcam and Multi-Touch scrolling for trackpad, etc and so I had to (sigh) return to Vista).
