Sony :: Enable VT-X On Z Series

View 3 RepliesAs you are very well aware... attempts at enabling hardware VT by 'hacking' the Insyde H2O EFI bios have not gone very far. While these has been success (kudos to Igor Levicki for pursuing it) with the other series of VAIO, the Z series has not been hackable till date and thus one of the most important and supported/advertised feature of the included Intel processors (P8400, P8600, P8700, P9500 and P9600 -> All Supporting VT as indicated by their official Intel pages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5)
Microsoft has just release Windows 7 RC (the best version of Windows, as claimed by some of the most popular blogs in the world) and one major feature in its toolset is the Windows XP Mode [url] and it is clearly indicated by Microsoft in their download page (Windows Virtual PC: Download) that for this important software compatability feature to work, hardware VT must be enabled and supported by the computer.
Since hardware VT is a feature of the Intel processors, us VAIO owners do not see Sony's logic in disabling it entirely without giving the owners of the machine any choice to enable it at a later time. Even if it is a unsupported feature as far as Sony goes, why cripple it? Why not have an option in the bios which would allow users to enable it by themshelves?
We hope that Sony listens to us and releases a bios update which either:Enables VT by default.Gives a option in the BIOS to enable it.This affects almost the entire lineup of laptops (not sure about desktops) in the VAIO series. Sony stands to loose nothing but rather gain another feature in its cap for being pro consumer and listening to the needs.
I have checked the BIOS settings. Intel Hyper-Thread technology is checked as enabled. When I try to turn on Hyper-V Platform in Control Panel, I am told that Virtualization support is disabled in firmware. I see nothing else in the BIOS menu to turn on. What am I missing?

When the manual switch is set to wifi on and i press fn+f5, nothing happens. The wifi card is recognized in windows, i have the latest drivers from lenovo support page and so on. I have tried literary everything, including windows reinstall and still nothing. When I run windows diagnostics it also says "wifi options (or something like that) are not enabled" and i tried with readycomm which says the same thing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new z510 notebook, and I need to do a clean install of windows 8.1. Â Problem is that I can't seem to boot from CD or USB. Â I have entered the bios, and although the DVD rom drive works, and it shown correctly in BIOS, it does NOT allow me to add it to the boot list. Â Also, there is an option called 'Boot From USB' Â I enable that, and still the USB boot does not show up in the boot list. Â The only thing I have in the boot list is the 'Windows Boot Manager' and it lists the name of my drive. Â
Â
I thought that maybe secure boot was the issue, but I tried disabling this, and is still doesn't let me do what I want. I just paid $800 for a top of the line laptop, and I can't even boot from a cdrom.  Every computer I have had since the 1980s have allowed me to do just that without trouble. Â
IÂ want to run a Virtual PC . After googling I got some instruction. Some of the people suggest to change in bios. They suggested go to Bios-> Security -> System Security -> Enable virtual. But when I tried that. I didn't find the system security under Security. what should I do? How can I enable virtualization in my pc?Â

On my X1 Carbon, I had to move from Win 8.1 pro to 8.1 Ent. I did a fresh install from scratch to only install what I need.During my setup, I had to disable Secure boot, to boot on a USB Key, install 8.1 Enterprise. Now that everything is working, I would like to re-enable the secure boot option.
Â
If I don't it directly in the BIOS, the laptop doesn't book any more.Do I have to import key from my 8.1 Ent to the Bios or something like this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a problem, normally I press Fn and F5 to bring up the window to enable/disable Wireless Lan and Bluetooth. But it's suddenly stopped working and I cannot switch on my Wireless Lan.

This is on IdeaPad Y580 running Windows 7.
Â
1. When I press Fn F5 no window opens.
Â
2. When I press Fn F6 my track pad is enabled/disabled as normal, although I do not see the notification on screen.
Â
3. When I press the Fn and volume or brightness controls, they work perfectly, but again I do not notification on screen, the bars showing level of volume or brightness.
Â
4. Also the One Touch Recovery and One Key Theater buttons are not working. But the audio Mute button is working.
Â
5. I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software and reinstalled it but no difference.
Â
6. I have checked the BIOS and Wireless Lan is enabled.
Â
7. I also saw that in Task Manager I cannot see utility.exe running.
How do I go about installing Bluetooth on my X31 2673? I plan on getting a Bluetooth speaker to sync with it. I don't have Bluetooth installed on the X31, I will need to upgrade. Are the Bluetooth parts difficult to find for an older X31 2673? Is it worth the cost? Or should I just buy a identical X31 with Bluetooth?

View 6 Replies View RelatedJust got a Vaio Z, which I love in many ways -- except for the trackpad. My old Dell E1505 had a trackpad in which it would scroll more or less based on how quickly you moved your finger up/down the right side of it. So, you could use it to get to the top/bottom of very large documents in a single fast swipe.
Meanwhile, the Z's trackpad only seems to move a fixed number of lines with each swipe. This is a HUGE downgrade, as it takes forever to move through a large document.
Is there any way to get variable-line scrolling working on a Z trackpad?
After searching all day for Drivers because the official Sony site said my vaio cant run Win7, blah, blah, etc, etc, I finally decided to drop by here and fount this list

I finally was able to figure out what was needed in order for the touchpad to work but dont know which file is need to enable FN keys for brightness to work. My Vaio series is NR (NR160E)
I have bought a Vaio VGN-Z21XN/B laptop. I have installed Windows Server 2008 64-bit on it, but I would like to inform me how to enable Virtualization.
Has anyone tried enabling Virtualization on Z series?

I recently acquire a VGN-SZ491N from ebay and since I don't really like Vista, so I wipe out the hard drive and install Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. I followed the following steps and everything works fine except for the video card portion.
A. Install Windows 7
B. Install missing / unknown drivers
C. Reboot and install the utilities, in the following order:
1. Sony Utils DLL
2. Sony Shared Library
3. VAIO Event Service
4. Setting Utility Series
After Step C, I reboot my laptop and then able to install Nvidia driver and upgrade the video card from generic one to Nvidia at Speed mode.
But when I manually switch from speed to stigma, nothing happen, so I would like to know what should I do to enable the Intel video card portion and make it work in Windows 7.
I`m very happy to have found a way to enable VT.
If you doenst know what VT is - YOU DONT NEED IT ^^
At first i was a little bit afraid, to take the risk to hack the Bios, but finally i take it.
Not only VT works now fine, also the advanced Bios Setup Screen, let me finetune everything i ever dream from. You could tweak many things, dont do there anything, if you doent know what you do.
Ok, back to Topic:
After some Internetresearch i found this link:

Please follow the instructions exactly. I have do also the same reverse for testing - you could go back, if you want.
But: with every Bios tweaking - you lose your warranty.
Here my Statement on this Blog. PLEASE, look there there if your Model is supportet - FIRST.....................

See Figure 2 below,in these two places will be able to successfully Enable the VT and AHCI functions can be a do?You Moren so successful ?
There were many SR4 laptops sold in May 2009 in China suffering the problem of stopping responding randomly and frequently, which caused quite a lot of hot threads discussing.
Sony identified the problem as some bugs in BIOS firmware and hence released an update to fix this.

As a "side effect" some customers noticed that Sony has officially enabled the option of VT in BIOS settings!
This is quite unbelievable according to the usual style of Sony. Maybe it is because of the pressure from XP mode in the upcoming Windows 7.
Unfortunately the BIOS update still does not give SLIC 2.1 so to activate Windows 7 we still need SLIC 2.1 from Lenovo or other brands.
I bought a new G510 Lenovo Laptop but I cant quite use the dedicated amd vga. Everytime I install the given amd drivers from lenovo's official page and I check the Device Manager in windows 8 I see that the only enabled graphic card is the integrated Intel HD 4600. I tried to install the Intel drivers first but I get a error message that says that the computer does not meet the minimum requierments for installing that software.
