HP Envy M6 K015dx :: How To Enable AHCI

Nov 5, 2013

I upgraded my hard drive to a SSD and that is done. Laptop works fine.  Installed the Samsung SSD software and it says I need to Enable AHCI to get the SSD running at full potential.

I searched the BIOS and do not see anyplace to change this.  I then went to the Device Manager in Windows 8.1and I do not see any ATA/SATA controller.  All I see is a RAID controller. RAID controller in a laptop?

How to enable the AHCI?

Dell :: BIOS Hack To Enable Intel VT And/or AHCI On Inspiron

Nov 20, 2009

when I got my 9400/E1705 I was always sad for not having the AHCI option available in the BIOS.

This was asked for so many times:

- "Notebooks BIOS should support AHCI"
[url]

- "Enable AHCI in Dell Notebook BIOS"
[url]

- "Please give us BIOS support for SATA AHCI mode on Inspirons!"
Please give us BIOS support for SATA AHCI mode on Inspirons!

- "Give us real bios control"
[url]

- "Bios release"
[url]

In the Sony forum, they have found a way to activate these options even if they're not present in the BIOS:

How to Enable Intel VT and AHCI on a Napa/Santa Rosa platform Phoenix BIOS Vaio laptop
...
The only item you'll need is a bootable DOS media. Click one of these links for instruction for creating a bootable floppy disk (with USB floppy drive) or usb stick.USB flash1 or USB flash2 or CDR (add modified table file to image before writing).
Instructions:

1.Download symcmos and copy it to your bootable DOS media. This utility is used to modify your Phoenix BIOS settings. Also, download a DOS text editor and copy it to the media if you feel comfortable editing a file in DOS.

2.Go to the BIOS by pressing F2 during start-up, or when the VAIO logo appears, and reset the settings to factory default. Save and reboot.

3.Go back to the BIOS and enable the boot from external devices option. Save and reboot.

4.Press ESC when the VAIO logo appears to bring up the boot selection menu and select the bootable DOS media. At the prompt, type "symcmos -v2 -lDefault.txt", without quotes, and note that there's no space in between the flag and filename. This will create a literal symbol table from the NVRAM named Default.txt which contains all the current BIOS settings. Reboot by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del. If that doesn't work, hold the power button until the notebook turns off.

5.Use the DOS text editor (or boot to another OS and use a text editor there) to edit the generated Default.txt file. Change the following lines and save the modified file to something else (e.g. modified.txt):

For Napa SZs - R0112N0

AHCI: (015C) [0000] ---> (015C) [0001]

VT-x: (0354) [0000] ---> (0354) [0001]...

HP Envy Dv7-7398ca :: Enable AHCI Mode On Notebook With SSD

Aug 12, 2011

Year old i7 Envy Dv7-7398ca notebook with Samsung 840 Pro x 256 SSD.  Windows 8.1. I updated to the  SSD soon after I purchsed the notebook.

No issues except the Samsung Magician SSD software keeps flagging me that AHCI mode is disabled and needs to be enabled and I do not see it in BIOS. Nor do I see anything that relates to it in Device manager like IDE or whatever.

It appears the SSD is not optimizing itself based on the fact it thinks AHCI is disabled.

Does this have the same or similar solution to that provided in the link here? : [URL]....

Would there be any negative consequences for the spinning disk?

HP Envy SleekBook 6-1153eo OS/Software :: Enable AHCI In Windows 8 / BIOS

Feb 14, 2013

My computer:
HP Envy Sleekbook 6 - 1153eo
Windows 8 Pro

AHCI is currently disabled on my computer and I wish to enable it to get the most performance out of it. It can easily be enabled via the windows registry but to get it working i need to be sure that AHCI is currently enabled in the BIOS aswell. When I enter the BIOS there just isnt any advanced options available, only time and date and other basics. How do i find out wether or not AHCI is enabled in the BIOS? How do i get access to the advanced options in the BIOS to turn on AHCI (if it isnt already enabled that is)?

Dell :: AHCI

Jan 26, 2009

I want to install mediadirect on my xps 1530. I want to follow this Dell Vista Laptop Reformat and Bloatware Removal Guide
But I have a question before beginning.

This paragraph : AHCI Concerns: On new Dell systems, they are set up to run in AHCI mode which will give you a 15% system performance boost. In many instances, the AHCI driver MUST be installed during the initial installation process for the installation to work.

Those not installing it are finding that their system may BSOD or hang during the installation and saying "Completing Installation Process". One must find the driver specific to their system either on the drivers disk that came with their laptop or at www.Dell.com in the drivers section.

Download and expand it to a USB drive or disk; the USB is preferred but it is important that you expand it on the media you just saved it to. Once done, put it aside for now .....

Dell :: Install Windows 7: AHCI Driver

Aug 19, 2009

I am about to install Windows 7 thanks to my school's MSDNAA program and plan to use the 64-bit version (replacing Vista/32-bit). I remember from the bloatware removal thread where it is highly recommended to install the AHCI driver before installing the OS since there is a performance boost.

Should I continue to use the AHCI driver before installing Windows 7? On Dell's site, they only list vista versions, so I don't know if it is needed or if it even works with 7.

If I should keep using it, should I use the 32-bit or 64-bit driver on Dell's site? I know it sounds obvious that I would want the 64-bit driver if I am upgrading to a 64-bit OS, but I have heard people say many 64-bit drivers are not as reliable as 32-bit, so I am wondering if it matters which one I use

Dell Inspiron 11 :: Upgrade To SSD Will Not Work In AHCI Only In ATA?

Jan 7, 2015

I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 11 3000 2in1. I decided to swap my Dell Sata 54000 rpm HD to a SSD M500 240GB. I went in the BIOS and it does recognize the Fixed HDD - Crucial_CT240M500SSD1 240GB. I tried installing Windows 8.1 and it would not recognize the SSD HD. What I notice if I go in the BIOS and change SATA Operation to ATA it works fine. I would like to have it on AHCI because I guess that is the latest technology for reading a HD. Any reason why I can't install it with AHCI? It also did work fine before on AHCI with the factory HD that came with the laptop.

Dell XPS 15 9530 :: Unable To Boot Using AHCI

Nov 4, 2014

Yesterday i got my new XPS 15 9530, that's where i ran into some problems.Laptop is unable to work under AHCI in any possible configuration. It ships with 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD, i unscrew and swapped the 1TB HDD with a new Samsung 850 Pro 512GB. I started installing windows while on Intel's SRT (raid), then i noticed it and after installation was over i changed to AHCI.

Then i had to re-install, i boot using windows disk (talking about 8.1 pro) and windows installer was slow during this period... then after i reached the drive listing, i couldn`t touch either drivers. I couldn`t create partition in the samsung pro, i was receiving the 0x80070057 and a couple errors more of the same type. I started playing around with the GPT & MBR formatting, used external computer to create partitions, layouts but nothing.Whenever AHCI is on, i can`t manage to work using the Samsung 850 Pro disk.

So now i`m using Intel's SRT (raid instead) while having a single disk (samsung 850 pro) where windows is installed, while not achieving full read/write speeds because of the samsung magician that has to work with AHCI, and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (irst). The other drive (32GB SSD) is formatted for linux, i have to disable secure boot to boot into there but that's fine. How can i get AHCI to work? I tried so many ways but clearly nothing..

Dell :: Inspiron 1545 Sata Drive ATA / AHCI

May 25, 2009

got a inspiron 1545 recently with a SATA 320 gb HDD / 4gb ram with Windows Vista Home Basic. Like most of us I hate Vista. So I created a partition & installed XP.

Used a program "EasyBCD" to setup dual boot. I get the dual boot screen at startup. But only XP boots. After a little probing, came to know that there are only 2 options in the BIOS for SATA operations. AHCI & ATA. If I select ATA I can boot only to XP. If I select AHCI then I can boot only into Vista. Searched around but the solutions were a bit over my head. Really appreciate if anybody could come up with something in lay mans terms.

Dell Precision M4400 :: Upgraded To SSD Drive - It Won't Work In AHCI Mode Only ATA

Dec 9, 2013

I installed a Samsung 840EVO 500GB SSD in my Precision M4400 last weekend. I managed to get it working but it only works in ATA mode. All others modes I tried brought me to the windows splash screen quickly followed by a blue screen that flashed so quickly I couldn't read it before the system rebooted. If I let it reboot it continues to do the same thing over and over. As I understand it I would really benefit from the performance AHCI offers, particularly when running multiple programs at once.

How I might get my drive working in AHCI mode?
