View 10 RepliesI am trying to enable AHCI on my HDX16t so that I can get the most out of my intel SSD X25-M.
I plan to do a default system restore by using the "Clean Vista install WITH NO ACTIVATION" thread with an original vista CD.
1) how to enable this?
2) Is it enabled by default?
3) And if so, how can I tell?
Looking at fitting an SSD which needs AHCI. So I looked on microsoft and saw registry edit which I've done. Then I changed to AHCI in BIOS and get BSOD so set it back. Also I see that there are problems with Smsung Pro, does any problems with Samsung evo ? Why mSATA is not recommended for boot disk and only for cache ?

Is it possible to enable S.M.A.R.T. on Western Digital Externals? I have a 500gb one and a 250gb but I can't figure out a way to enable this feature. Is it possible and if so, how would I do it? Also, if it's not possible on a mac, is it possible on windows?

I've tried to set up a 64bit guest operating system in VMWare and in VirtualBox, but have been unable to. I understand that the problem might be that VT-x is not enabled in the BIOS. However, on booting up my G780 and using F2 to edit the settings I don't see anything related to VT.Â

After turning on Bitlocker I noticed that when I shut down the laptop, it goes to sleep. Even if I logoff first then request a shutdown it still just goes to sleep. I can request a restart which does work - it restarts, but a shutdown still makes it go to sleep. I can hold the power button to force it off. Doing that or when requesting a restart, the laptop starts back up but I find that the laptop goes into Flight mode. The Flight mode symbol is visible even before you logon.
I turned off Bitlocker, and the problem has gone away. Is there a solution for this?
Should I use the Dell DDP Encryption product instead?
How to enable VT-x on T440s? I tried to enable Security -> Vritualization setting in the BIOS menu. After a cold restart, the virtualization setting stays the same Enabled state, but the Win8.1 doesn't seem to recognized it and CPU-Z shows no VT-x like the image below. The BIOS is the latest, update yesterday.Â

View 1 Replies View RelatedI mostly use a mouse and I am getting annoying mouse pointer jumps when I inadvertantly touch the touchpad while typing. It seems like just pressure on the area outside of the touchpad is enough to make the pointer jump. I would like the touchpad to be disabled when a mouse is present on the system and be enabed when no mouse is present. I would not want to be caught having to find my way to the Control Panel using keystrokes. It does not seem like this is possible so I am hoping that Lenovo is monitoring these posts.

This could be simply accomplished by editing some configuration files. So notepad.exe is the "hacking tool" of choice
Make sure, you back up these files before editing them. Also, some files are write protected, so you need to change this before the modification. It is recommended to re-apply the write protected flag when you're done.
Enable USSD support
Step 1:
Navigate to C:Program Files (x86)Acer 3G Connection Managerconfig
Edit file: PluginsConfig.xml

I have an HP DV2700 laptop (core 2 duo T5450 @1.66Ghz, 2GB of ram with vista home premium 32-bit).
I have a Western digital scorpio 250GB HD at 5400 rpm (WDC WD2500BEVS) and I am having some trouble enabling the write catching (and in extension, advanced performance mode.) I have tried accessing device manager and selecting 'enable write caching on the disk' however the policy does not persist once i apply the change. Despite my disappointment, this was to be expected since the comment 'this device does not allow its write cache setting to be modified' can be seen underneath the option. Being a tweaker of sorts with regards to vista, I was certain there is a way to allow such modifications to take place.
As an aside, I wanted to know whether enabling these policies would decrease spin up time? More specifically, decrease the amount of heat emitted from the hard drive. Of those who own DV laptops, this is an understandable request, seeing as the base of the laptop, under stress, becomes uncomfortably hot.
I bought my new lap top about 1 month now and im seem unable to find the option for enabling/disabling the virtualization technology in my lap top thru bios settings, i really need to enable it for running the VMware for my studies needs. my lap top specification is:
Â
HP Pavilion dv6-6007tx Entertainment Notebook PC
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
8 GB RAM
Radeon (TM) HD 6770M
System BIOS F.06
Windows 7 professional 64 bits
I have enabled Virtualization through BIOS after updating it to v3 still the intel utility doesnt show virtualization is enabled:
Steps I have taken:
1.Disabled Virtualization in BIOSÂ
Result: Speccy and hwinfo64, 3rd party utilities show VT-x is available but disabled
2.Enabled Virtualization in BIOS
Result: Speccy and hwinfo64, 3rd Party utilities show VT-x is not available
3. Repeated above steps after updating BIOS
 Result: Same problems

Currently I have twice the nVidia gt 755m, working on SLI. Though a lot of games I play are incompatible with SLI and will heat op my laptop with bad performace. I could turn off my SLI option to have some normal fps again, but since skype and my mouse driver needs to be turned off everytime I want to turn on or off SLI it is not really my favorite option.
When you have twice the nvidia, the bios will automatically turn off the intel hd graphics. I would like to know if there is a possibility to turn on the intel hd graphics, then I could run my desktop + the programs that need to be turned of for the switching on the intel hd. I hope this would be possible to enable and that there will be no power issues when turning it on (3 graphic cards will take some power).
My laptop was running Windows 8.1 with SecureBoot enabled just fine. But I just swapped out my boot drive for a bigger SSD and, when I tried to boot from my USB installation media (to do a fresh Windows 8.1 install), nothing would happen (the screen would just flash when I tried to select the USB drive). I realized I had to disable Secure Boot in order to boot from the USB drive and then to enable booting from legacy/non-UEFI devices.
Â
So now I've been able to install Windows 8.1 and it's running without a hitch, but Secure Boot is still in the disabled state. When I enable it, I can't boot from anything. How can I re-enable Secure Boot with my fresh Windows 8.1 install? Or if I have to reinstall, what steps do I need to take this time?
I want to install mediadirect on my xps 1530. I want to follow this Dell Vista Laptop Reformat and Bloatware Removal Guide
But I have a question before beginning.
This paragraph : AHCI Concerns: On new Dell systems, they are set up to run in AHCI mode which will give you a 15% system performance boost. In many instances, the AHCI driver MUST be installed during the initial installation process for the installation to work.
Those not installing it are finding that their system may BSOD or hang during the installation and saying "Completing Installation Process". One must find the driver specific to their system either on the drivers disk that came with their laptop or at www.Dell.com in the drivers section.
Download and expand it to a USB drive or disk; the USB is preferred but it is important that you expand it on the media you just saved it to. Once done, put it aside for now .....
installing Windows XP on my HP Pavillion Dv2100. Windows could load with Native Sata disabled but when I try to enable it, it gives me a BSOD during the Windows loading screen. I tried doing the steps on [url] and it still doesnt work.
I also tried reinstalling Windows with Native Sata enabled but it says Windows cannot detect a hard disk. Tried reinstalling using a Flash Drive with Windows installed using WinToFlash and it said "Ntldr is missing".
Initially configuration was easy (through available connections)and i could use net at ease. Bue couple of days I happened to "Disable" two network which used to connect automatically the moment i used to turn my laptop ON.But after that, I never saw them in the available connection. Although i can see those network available on my phone, but on laptop i unable to detect them. I tried configuring them by using "wireless network connection properties" and i could even chnage their preference too. I tried disabling/enabling wireless network, but its not working at all.But at the same time I can see coupls of other wireless network which are in range, but i can not connect to any of those as they dont belong to my hotel.

I recently undertook a clean install of Vista (SP1) onto my XPS M1530. After the installation was complete,
I manually installed the Intel Matrix Storage Device drivers (AHCI).
When I view the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers list in Vista's Device Manager I see the following:
- ATA Channel 0
- Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2850
does anyone know how to enable the AHCI feature on that notebook? Ther ist no possibility to change it in the bios.
