Ever since Vista SP2, I have been experiencing issues with my Z690 Vaio. Wih hibernate, the laptop just restarts when I try to resume and gives the improper shutdown error. With sleep, sometimes the laptop refuses to start or gives the BSOD. Sony support, as usual has been lackluster.

Hibernate take a really long time to shut down, twice as long as shut down. the first thing that happens is that the monitor shuts off and then hard drive works for a while
Sleep is even clunkier. turns off monitor, it takes a few minutes to complete, sometimes when i use the FN+F1 combo it comes back on, when I close the lid usually works, but sometimes it doesn't.
at times hibernate won't work and stops in the middle of it, forcing me to shut of the laptop. then on restart it freezes a couple of times on the desktop and earlier I even got the BSOD.
thought that hibernate was better because it turns off the computer and saves battery except on my laptop the power button is defaulted to sleep so I would have thought that they would default it to that for a reason.

When I shut the lid, it sleeps for about 15 seconds and then wakes again.
Also, the same when I click the sleep button.
i have a studio 15 just wondering what you guys prefer hibernate or sleep mode?
i find hibernate a cool future and useing it alot..
For some reason, my laptop's internet stops working after it enters sleep or hibernate mode. I have to restart my computer to get the internet working which is annoying.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 10+ years experience, but I cant resolve this bug. I have a 3560 Vostro, new running win7. It has never went to sleep or hibernate properly. I have set it to go to sleep after 10 minutes and hibernate after 120 minutes, neither work as I wake up the next morning to find the laptop still running. ALSO I set the power button to "hibernate" and when pressing that it takes me to the log into windows screen. It seems like the computer goes to hibernate and IMMEDIATELY wakes up to the login screen.
Is there a program or setting that is preventing the PC from sleep/hibernation?
The computer will go into hibernation without any problems.
When I power the computer back up, it starts up I see the starting windows screen. That screen goes blank and then nothing happens.
I just updated the BIOS to A15 and that did not work. I have tried uninstalling the video driver and that did not work. I tried installing an older video driver and no luck there.
The video driver I have for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1800M show version 8.17.12.5922
I have Vostro V131 model with 64 bit Windows 7 pro (preinstalled) The laptop stacks when is going to sleep/ hibernate (lid close/button press / via windows etc, doesn't matter. Power button/indication stays on & white leds indicator (power & wireless stay on). I was waiting for a long time , but no reaction. To return back to normal mode I need or to press power button for 6 sec (for power off and then power on) or remove power connector & remove battery.
I updated BIOS to v05, saw some suggestions in sw sleep configuration, but it doesn't work.
I have installed Windows 8.1 on my R61 and have a problem with sleep/hibernate. It never goes to this state, iI should stead LCD switch off but computer still runs. The only way to get back is switch off power and restart.
If I manually disable wireless driver before pressing sleep, then it goes to sleep state successfully. Which driver i should use.
The options Hibernate and Sleep are there but I cant select them, also the laptop turns off automaticly after some time and gets hot. Its a vostro 1320 runing windows 7 and without battery.

That is not what power buttons are set up to do, seems to make no difference what those settings do. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 14x 5423 that will reboot/restart but will not shut down, sleep, or hibernate. The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI’ve had the T430s for about a year. Whenever the laptop goes into sleep/hibernate mode, I hear a high pitched hum come from the bottom back section of the laptop. It also becomes noticeably louder when I unplug the AC adapter. I've put my ear to the laptop to try to identify where exactly the noise is coming from. I attached a picture with the general vicinity circled.
I don’t think I explained the issue to the repair centre properly. They ended up replacing the fan the first time I sent it in for repair. The second time I sent it, they replaced the system board. However, it continues to emit that high pitched hum.
Am I being too sensitive to the noise or is this something that can be fixed? I’m just past my warranty and I’m afraid if there is a problem that isn’t identified, I’ll be stuck with it for the next few years.

This is specifically occurring on Z590, but may be there in all Z's.
If you have a USB mouse plugged in, and you go to sleep mode, and then disconnect the USB mouse, then when the laptop wakes up again, the trackpad does not work. If you plug-in the mouse at this point, the mouse works fine, but the trackpad is still entirely disabled. Vaio Control Center indicates the trackpad is still enabled, but no response at all from trackpad.
If you unplug the mouse, go to sleep, and wake up, the trackpad now works fine.
I am not sure when this bug was introduced, but can anyone replicate it as well? The trackpad seems to get disabled upon wakeup from sleep if the USB mouse was unplugged AFTER going into sleep mode.
My new Lattitude laptop powers back on (sort of) when in either sleep or hibernate modes, but I have to power off in order to get the computer to start. Usually happens after a few hours of being in either mode. Does it have something to do with power management?

I talked to someone at Sony Style who said I could purchase the warranty up to 30 days from the date of sale. I noticed newegg.com has one for sale, but when I talked to an associate there, they said it was only for sale with the purchase of a new laptop.
when i put my computer into sleep sometimes i slide it onto a table, or put it in my backpack (inside a case) and now and then it will be back on when i go get it again.....
I tested it out and opening and closing the lid/pushing buttons doesn't wake it, the only thing i can do to wake it is push the power button which is sunk in (its an sr series)

I have a 490CTO with win7 home premium. I can't remember but I think that I had exactly the same score with vista, only nothing went over 5.9. The HDD score was the same. Did anybody else get a different base score after upgrading to 7?
I'm considering buying a new Vaio Z series, and I'm trying to keep the initial price to a minimum whilst maximising what I need Sony to do at the factory.
So, what components are upgradeable?
Obvious ones:
- RAM
- HDD/SSD
- CPU
- GPU
- WWAN - can I add this at a later date should I find I need it?
From my research on here, I (think I) understand that the SSD isn't upgradeable due to a proprietary connector - what about buying a Z with a standard SATA drive? Does this use a standard SATA connector (and enable purchasing SSD drives aftermarket)?
I bought this model in Japan Z71JB, Vista 64 premium, 4go ram, 320 HDD.
The problem is after getting hibernate, especially from sleep to deep sleep and when resume i got BSOD with " multiple IRP requests complete" and ve reboot fresh start. I ve some clue that Kaspersky internet security can be faulty.
Anyone with this error? Kaspersky user? im stuck with several BSOD on resume always the same.
I just bought a used but fully working Vaio VGN-FW11e with a cracked screen (got it for a good price). The lcd-panel had been removed but the lid is intact. The cracked screen didn't bother me since I planned to have it permanently hooked up to my projekter using the VGA-output.
The problem is that it doesn't seem to turn on the VGA-out before Windows has loaded, i.e. it is impossible to see the POST/loading of BIOS. When trying to restore Windows to its factory settings (since the old owner had left all his files and folders all over the place) using the Vaio Recovery Center something went wrong and now I'm left with a dead system.
When turning the computer on I can hear and see what seems like a proper POST, i.e. the hard drive spinning, the dvd drive spinning etc. But a few seconds after start, when it's supposed to start loading Windows it just stay still, most likely with some kind of error message.
I desperately need to be able to activate the VGA out during BIOS to be able to reinstall Windows. According to Sony this is not possible. But it sound almost silly since every other laptop I have had has been able to output a picture to VGA directly during POST. Is there some way since the obvious Fn-F7 doesn't work?
I put my new laptop into hibernate and into my laptop bag. At about 3 am (I looked at event log) it seems to over the last few days come out of hibernation and come on. Within 10 minutes it goes back to sleep/hibernate. This happens while I am not even touching it. Would this have caused any damage (heat while in bag)? I doubt it but it is new and I am paranoid! Also for now I am just shutting down if the laptop is not plugged in and not in use.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?
