Why does my E1-521 laptop shut down every time? Regardless of what I select, sleep, hibernate, close lid, it still shuts down. That is not what power buttons are set up to do, seems to make no difference what those settings do. It may be a coincidence, but I think I started having problems when I turned on "OneDrive".. which I can't seem to turn off! Running Windows 8.1....
View 1 RepliesI have a Dell Inspiron 14x 5423 that will reboot/restart but will not shut down, sleep, or hibernate. The screen shows shutting down, the screen and the hard drive turns off, but the power light and fan stay on until the battery dies in the laptop. I hold the power button and everything shuts off. When booting, I do not get the windows improperly shut down error the I normally get when I just hold the power button to shut off the computer so I suspect the operating system is shut down! I have tried updating bios to A13, video drivers, Chipset drivers, and Windows 8.1, The laptop passes all diagnostics.I even tried admin command prompt and "shutdown /s /f /h 0" command with no different results. Changed all settings in Control Panel to enable sleep and/or hibernate. I downloaded KB hot-fix which says it is for Windows 7 as another test.

i find hibernate a cool future and useing it alot..
thought that hibernate was better because it turns off the computer and saves battery except on my laptop the power button is defaulted to sleep so I would have thought that they would default it to that for a reason.

Sleep is even clunkier. turns off monitor, it takes a few minutes to complete, sometimes when i use the FN+F1 combo it comes back on, when I close the lid usually works, but sometimes it doesn't.
at times hibernate won't work and stops in the middle of it, forcing me to shut of the laptop. then on restart it freezes a couple of times on the desktop and earlier I even got the BSOD.
I have a Vaio VGN-Z46GD, that will not sleep/hibernate and now will not shut down either.
When I shut the lid, it sleeps for about 15 seconds and then wakes again.
Also, the same when I click the sleep button.
I have 10+ years experience, but I cant resolve this bug. I have a 3560 Vostro, new running win7. It has never went to sleep or hibernate properly. I have set it to go to sleep after 10 minutes and hibernate after 120 minutes, neither work as I wake up the next morning to find the laptop still running. ALSO I set the power button to "hibernate" and when pressing that it takes me to the log into windows screen. It seems like the computer goes to hibernate and IMMEDIATELY wakes up to the login screen.
Is there a program or setting that is preventing the PC from sleep/hibernation?
Ever since Vista SP2, I have been experiencing issues with my Z690 Vaio. Wih hibernate, the laptop just restarts when I try to resume and gives the improper shutdown error. With sleep, sometimes the laptop refuses to start or gives the BSOD. Sony support, as usual has been lackluster.

I just updated the BIOS to A15 and that did not work. I have tried uninstalling the video driver and that did not work. I tried installing an older video driver and no luck there.

I have Vostro V131 model with 64 bit Windows 7 pro (preinstalled) The laptop stacks when is going to sleep/ hibernate (lid close/button press / via windows etc, doesn't matter. Power button/indication stays on & white leds indicator (power & wireless stay on). I was waiting for a long time , but no reaction. To return back to normal mode I need or to press power button for 6 sec (for power off and then power on) or remove power connector & remove battery.
I updated BIOS to v05, saw some suggestions in sw sleep configuration, but it doesn't work.
I have installed Windows 8.1 on my R61 and have a problem with sleep/hibernate. It never goes to this state, iI should stead LCD switch off but computer still runs. The only way to get back is switch off power and restart.
If I manually disable wireless driver before pressing sleep, then it goes to sleep state successfully. Which driver i should use.
The options Hibernate and Sleep are there but I cant select them, also the laptop turns off automaticly after some time and gets hot. Its a vostro 1320 runing windows 7 and without battery.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI’ve had the T430s for about a year. Whenever the laptop goes into sleep/hibernate mode, I hear a high pitched hum come from the bottom back section of the laptop. It also becomes noticeably louder when I unplug the AC adapter. I've put my ear to the laptop to try to identify where exactly the noise is coming from. I attached a picture with the general vicinity circled.
I don’t think I explained the issue to the repair centre properly. They ended up replacing the fan the first time I sent it in for repair. The second time I sent it, they replaced the system board. However, it continues to emit that high pitched hum.
Am I being too sensitive to the noise or is this something that can be fixed? I’m just past my warranty and I’m afraid if there is a problem that isn’t identified, I’ll be stuck with it for the next few years.

My new Lattitude laptop powers back on (sort of) when in either sleep or hibernate modes, but I have to power off in order to get the computer to start. Usually happens after a few hours of being in either mode. Does it have something to do with power management?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an acer laptop e1-571 with windows 8. the mb failed ordered a new one installed it. on boot now i get no bootable device. The bios shows the hard drive and its the first in the boot order. If i hit f12 after powering on to access boot options the 3rd choice is efi device windows boot manager. If i select that it boots normally and runs fine. is their a way to boot the machine without having to hit f12 every time and selecting efi device to boot to windows? i tried updating the bios as well.

So I did and when I unplug when I shut it down it doesn't restart itself but only when I leave the Ethernet cable in it. Why is that? Also down on my currently connected icon by the clock why does it show that i'm connected to two networks? I had xp pro before and it only showed me connected to one network but on this new computer it shows me connected to two networks. Network 2 and Network 3, is that normal?

I tried taking the battery out, hard drive out, and the CMOS button battery out and leaving it for about half an hour. Put it back together again and nothing. I've had it plugged in for a while and the charge light is on, but it's not turning on still...

I've recently encountered a problem where every time my Studio 17 is supposed to go to sleep mode (closing lid, clicking sleep mode in start menu, etc.)
it becomes a hard shut-down, where I have to turn on the laptop again and it tells me that the laptop was shut down improperly.
My power settings indicate that it is supposed to go to sleep mode, but it actually doesn't

Will not start but I can hear the fan start then stop after a couple of secs, also the power and hdd leds flash on for 4 secs and then off for 4 secs and keep looping.
But then if I press the on/off button to turn the machine off it will not turn off, even holding the button for 4 secs or more. The only way to turn it off is by disconnecting the battery.
Nothing is connected and nothing appears on the screen.
I have an Acer 8920G Win 7 Pro which is randomly shutting down only in when connected to 'AC' power. It does not happen when using 'battery' alone or in 'safe mode'. I've tried,investigated, and corrected all overheating issues, cleaned fans, changed AC power supplies, disabled graphics card, to no avail. All drivers are up to date. This has been happening over a period of 3 months now. Can not use the laptop except when battery is charged or in safe mode.

Went to turn it on and the blue lights are working but it just lets me know the Hd is there but then gets quiet - nothing shows on the screen. It's 5 years old and I just reinstalled Win 7 Pro this week. I removed the battery. Same thing. I put the HD in an external case and hooked it up to another laptop and it is fine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAbout three months ago I was using my laptop and it was working fine and I closed it and set it aside, not plugged in. My power settings were that nothing happened other than the screen turns off when I close the lid. Well the next day I went to use my laptop and i opened it and hit the power button but it was dead, so I plugged it in and pressed the power button and still nothing happened. The only way I can turn the laptop on is to use the small battery reset button on the back of the computer. Once it turns on it starts up no problem, nothing out of the ordinary. When I use it and try to shut it down regardless of whether I press the power button or go to the power button on the menu to shut it down it goes through the shutdown and the monitor shuts off for about 3 seconds and then the computer turns back on.
I have done everything I can think of to get the computer to work. I have reinstalled windows 8.1 from a disk after completely restoring my laptop. I opened the computer up and disconnected the battery for a few minutes, I tried to start the laptop in safe mode, I reinstalled the BIOS, I have run all the troubleshooting and run windows update to make sure everything is up to date.
I have a problem with my HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, model 15-e055st, which I purchased two months ago with Windows 8 pre-installed. I susequently upgraded the operating system to Windows 8.1 and all seemed to work OK. I then used the HP Support Assistant to do some important updates, which included the BIOS and other software. Following the HP update the computer would not Shut Down or Sleep, but Restart worked OK. When I attempt to Shut Down or Sleep, the screen goes black but the power light and the wifi light on the keyboard remain on and the fan is still operating. The machine will not recover from this situation without me first doing a hard reset by keeping the power button pressed for about five seconds.
I trıed restoring the software to the condition prior to the HP update but the problem still existed. Two days ago I refreshed the computer, which rolled the operating system back from Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.0 but the Shut Down/Sleep problem is still there.
I bought the Acer Aspire v3-771G. I've had no problems with it, but lately it shuts down randomly without any warning, like a power cut. I've checked the CPU Temps and overheating is not the problem. The computer sits on a Targus cooling pad and it doesn't get that hot around the fans. The problem occur when the pc is running games or processes (computer scans) that require more memory than when I'm just surfing. The problem happens all from 15 mins to 2 hours into a game or so (depends on how much memory that's used). I've been doing some research myself and it seems like a graphic problem.
The computer always fits the minimum requirements for games I play and I play on rather low graphics on every game (to delay the shutdown).
The second problem is whenever I'm streaming or watching a movie the screen randomly turns into a "snow storm". Tried to move the screen up and down thinking it was something wrong with the cable from the hardware to screen but it didn't react to that. What has made this to happen due to the careful handling of the computer. But the only thing that comes to mind is something wrong with that cable... This problem happens randomly and started last week.
I've done some basic problem solving, with no success. I've tried restoring the computer to facotry setup, updating the bios and all the relevant drivers.
I've been looking for a hardware diagnostic program on the computer itself (like other good brands have) with no luck, even looked on the web. But nothing I've tried seems to find the problem.
