Sony :: Vaio Z Disappearing WLAN Hardware

Jul 10, 2009

Recently the WLAN on my Vaio Z27GN started acting up. The slightest touch on the laptop internally disconnects (or shorts) the WLAN hardware that totally disappears from the device manager. Usually a few gently tapings on the back and a reboot fix it.

The problem has gotten worse to the point that now its gone forever. It is clearly a short, a loose wire or something connecting/disconnecting the hardware. This has nothing to do with the front sliding switch to turn on/off the wireless.....

Sony :: VGN-Z11WN T-mobile "web N Walk Manager Has Stopped Working"

Jan 20, 2009

I signed up for the t-mobile web n walk deal (after using the trial sim that came with the laptop) and it works very well, except that web n walk manager has failed - when I click the desktop icon it reports that "web n walk manager has stopped working".

T-mobile cannot help - their help desk says that even though the laptop is supplied with the t-mobile software installed they are not able to support it currently ! (There is no category on the t-mobile website for my Z11WN laptop).

I believe it is a windows update that is causing the problem - I guess it may be affecting the Globetrotter drivers or something like that, because if I do a windows restore back far enough I can get the web n walk manager working again. However this is a a real pain and not something I want to keep doing.

I can connect using just a standard dial up connection but that doesn't give me any statistics or signal strength indicators.

Does anyone know how I can fix this once and for all ? I noticed in another thread that someone recommended using the Globetrotter software - can anyone advise me on whether or not that is stable after windows (Vista) updates and is it compatible with windows Vista ? I would rather try to get web n walk working properly though.

Sony :: TZ31, Wireless Device Switch Utility And WLAN Woes

Mar 14, 2009

Laptop: Sony Vaio TZ31VN
Integrated Globetrotter HSDPA Wireless WAN, Bluetooth and Intel 4965AGN Wireless LAN, Windows XP SP3 (Official Sony XP Downgrade Build)

This one really has me stumped - I'd appreciate any suggestions!

In summary, I have a problem with my Sony VAIO TZ31 wherein I'm unable to use my WiFi. The Wireless Device Switcher utility (C:Program FilesSonyWireless Switch Setting UtilitySwitcher.exe version 4.0) no longer 'sees' my integrated WLAN card to give me the option of turning it on or off, however it does see both the Bluetooth and WWAN cards. The hardware switch on the front of the laptop is in the 'ON' position, and the Bluetooth and WWAN lights are illuminated, however the WLAN light isn't, and I can find no way of enabling it. The Bluetooth and WWAN are still working.

My problem determination so far:

The normal Windows Wireless Network Connection dialogue tells me immediately (i.e. doesn't seem to scan at all) that it can't find any networks and that I should check that my wireless is turned on. I have another several devices in the house that are seeing the network just fine, as does my iPhone right next to this laptop.

Running an `IPCONFIG ALL` from the command line suggests that it is physically still there:

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-1D-E0-C3-xx-xx

Checking in Windows Device Manager the `Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN' entry appears with no question marks or exclamation marks telling me there's a problem or that the device is disabled. Opening up the properties dialogue for this, the drop down box on the Advanced tab says 'Wireless On'. All other properties are on the default values....

Sony :: VAIO- If A VAIO Had No Ram Should (if All Else Was Working) It Be Getting POST Beeps

Jan 15, 2010

I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.

Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.

So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?

HP/Compaq :: WLAN

Nov 9, 2009

My Broadcom 802.11 b/g shows up on the Taskbar (Compaq 515 Win7 HomePro 64 bit) as a removable device just like a jumpdrive. Is this normal? I 'safely remove' the device and my wireless connection goes off for a minute then comes back up (according to my HP Wireless Assistant). No harm, no foul, it just seems odd.

HP Networking :: 255 G2 / No WLAN Functionality

Jul 11, 2014

I have an HP 255 G2 Notebook PC with the product number F0Z56EA, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I installed the OS and the drivers for the laptop just a few days ago. Everything is running fine, except that the WLAN option is not displayed anywhere and I cannot connect the laptop to my wifi.

When I open the device manager, it shows "other devices" with a question mark and underneath "Network Controller" with a yellow exclamation mark.

I tried installing the Qualcomm network driver for my model, but during installation, the message "Device cannot be found, installation terminated" is being shown.

Sony :: VAIO TZ295N Vs VAIO TZ395N

Jul 4, 2009

I don't know whats the diference (besides the price), between VAIO TZ295N & VAIO TZ395N. Specs in all the websites I've checked say they have exactly the same components: Intel coreduo 1.33Ghz 2GB RAM DVD-RW and 64GB SSD Hardrive. I was wonder if the diference might be in the hard drive interface, with the TZ295N being PATA and TZ395N being SATA.

Sony :: (Old) VAIO Z BD Drive Fit In (New) VAIO Z Series

Mar 27, 2010

I'm wondering if the Blu-ray optical drive (Panasonic UJ-232A) of the (old) VAIO Z series will be able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series? I would really appreciate it if anyone is able to answer my question.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm seriously thinking of selling my VAIO Z690 & just buying the base Sony VAIO Z (VPCZ112GX/S). I may just be able to afford that base model & the icing on the cake will definitely be the UJ-232A drive being able to fit into the (new) VAIO Z series & work.

Also, I have noticed that my wireless signal gets dropped sometimes for no reason. It might be the routers fault but I'm not sure.

Acer :: Upgrading Wlan-module Failed

Mar 13, 2008

I tried to upgrade the wlan module in my Acer TravelMate 4233WLMi from the original Intel 3945abg mini-pci module to the Intel 4965abn mini-pci.

Windows Vista immediately recognised the new module, installed the drivers and noted the the new interface is now up and running and ready for use.

In fact it's not - the wlan-led on the front of the notebook stays dark - when I tried to switch it on via the front panel switch the notebook displays "no wlan module found".

The device manager in Vista still displays it as up and running.

I put in the original module again and the switch, led and wlan works again.

So my question is whether I received a faulty 802.11n module or whether the 4965abn is simply incompatible with the Acer 4233WLMi ...

Acer :: WLAN LED Function Inverted After W7 Upgrade

Nov 26, 2009

I have recently performed a clean install of windows 7 on my Acer TravelMate 5520G which used to run Vista. The whole process took the best part of 15 min...

All works *very* well apart from the orange WLAN LED at the front of the laptop (next to the bluetooth LED). WiFi functions fine and so does the WLAN switch. Except for the strange fact that when WLAN is ON the LED is OFF and when WLAN is switched OFF the LED comes ON!

The 802.11g network adapter driver installed is that of Broadcom version 5.30.21.0. Installing LaunchManager does not solve the problem.

Of course not a major problem, but the LED used to indicate WiFi connection status by flashing on&off, pretty handy.

how to go forward to get it to work as per normal?

However, when I installed it and connected the antennas, the computer doesn't recognize it at all when booting up. It doesn't even acknowledge the presence of a new device.
