Is it right, that there is no action possible for the power button when the lid is closed?
When I am at home I connected the Z to my external display and dont want to open and close the lid every time when I am powering up or down the Z.
I have an S series and when I press the silver VAIO button it mutes the sound.
I haven't found where to change the function of this button.
I've only removed the following Sony apps:
media gallery
pmb 5 and pmb plugins (click2disk/image optimizer/movie story)
vaio content metadata intelligent analyzing manager
vaio transfer support
Unfortunately I can't remember the default function of this button. Perhaps it was the media gallery? I'd like to change it anyhow.
There are times the machine sounds like it's taking off - at times where it shouldn't be doing much, e.g. idling on the desktop. The background software running hasn't changed from Vista, but it now seems to be working really hard doing something I have no idea of. I can be sitting beside it and have it going off like a jet engine, and if I approach it and tweak the touchpad the machine tends to settle down.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a Sony Vaio VGN-FW51MF about a month ago with Windows 7 and its developed a weird fault both the touchpad buttons don't work except for being able to select one of the quicklaunch icons,
no other icons respond to either buttons either single or double click, I can use the click on the touchpad itself to get around but this has only happened in the last couple of days,
I've tried reinstalling the driver, system restore and even removing the battery for 10 seconds but they still don't work and under the settings they are configured correctly
I bought a Sony VAIO notebook from Japan (VGN CS52JB). With the help of this site I managed to convert it into Vista Home Premium English version which was originally Japanese.
Everything works perfect except the AV mode button and the capture button. (which worked fine originally)
I installed "VAIO Event Service" and "VAIO Launcher", which I thought need to have that functionality.
Do I need to install any other VAIO applications to get it working?
My Vaio is just out of warranty and it's always had a bit of a clicky odd left-button.
I've noticed that it is gradually getting worse so I'm expecting it to break soon. I should have had it done while the computer was in warranty, but I've heard bad things about their service centre, and they'd probably have charged me for the repair anyway. I did ask them about it toward the end of the warranty period and they wanted me to email them Admin passwords and then pick up the computer for an undisclosed period. I just didn't fancy it - my fault.
Anyway, I have several friends at work who are IT technicians and one of them will have a look. I haven;t found a service manual for the CR series yet, but I'm assuming the buttons are part of the mount for the trackpad and can either be replaced individually or the mount (or pad) can be replaced.
It's just over a year old and I'm thinking about boosting the RAM, HD and upgrading to W7, but on the other hand, I'm not convinced the machine is going to survive another 2-3 years...
I have VAIO CR: VGN-CR25G/R. There is something wrong with my inbuilt camera. It works perfectly fine when i use it for webcam chat on msn. However, it doesn't work (in fact, it doesn't react at all) when i press the "CAPTURE" button on my laptop keyboard. Do you know why this is the case? And how can i fix it?
I went to Device Manager > Imaging Devices > Sony Visual Communication Camera and it tells me that the "device is working properly"
I just found this weird occurence. I often use my Vaio Z with external monitor. So most of the time I have my lid closed. Accidentally I was opening my Network Status and noticed that my wireless speed was only 1Mbps which was pretty aweful for an N speed. I was pulling my hair off, trying to figure out the problem with the setting. By looking at the signal, it was still pretty decent 3 bars.
Finally I found out that, whenever I opened the Sony Z lid , the speed would jumped up to 90Mbps and over maximizing around 150Mbps. Surprisingly the signal quality remained the same around 3 bars.
Did anybody experience this as well? Is it normal? Why did this happen?
I already turned off power management for wireless Intel 5100 AGN as well.
if it was possible to get the laptop to wake up when the lid is opened? Currently, you can put it to sleep by closing the lid, but when you open the lid you have to push the power button to wake it back up. I haven't seen any option in the power settings to do this either.

I am not too tech savvy, and this I got this for xmas and I am constantly getting the red mark. I have the HP ENVY 15 Notebook, I have no CD ROM so there is no CD resource or reinstall any of my installed CD programs without my backup.

Â The only issue I've noticed is that it does not display anything on screen when you use the function keys, such as the volume up or down, or bright ness up or down. Â The keys work, but it would be nice to see on screen that my volume is set at 2% vs say 100% when I'm turning it up or down.

View 5 Replies View RelatedOk after 3 days of using the 1340 I just realized the button on the top panel that you can use to increase/decrease volume stopped working. I had updated the latest drivers from Dell site but not sure if that is the reason.
Also non of the other buttons that are for DVD work either. And I know they were working when I got the laptop and only thing I have done is update with latest drivers.
I was wondering if the LED power button on the right side of the laptop could be user modified to change to, let's say blue. Is that possible?

(nothing to do with the battery). i sent the laptop to sony and they told me it would cost $900 to fix, so i said no way im going to pay that much. so i am now stuck with the TZ, is there an alternate way to put the laptop on?

After I'm done using the computer, how do I put it to sleep? Normally I would just shut the lid, but the lid is already closed.
So what I did was I just put it sleep manually through the taskbar at the top. But when I woke up this morning my laptop had its fan blowing and the laptop was pretty warm. Almost as if the laptop was still on all night.
Anyone else experience this? If so how do you put it to sleep?

View 7 Replies View RelatedAbout three months ago I returned my laptop to be repaired for a hard drive malfunction, not a big deal since I had the two year accidental protection plan. When I got it back they gave me a new hard drive, but my video card switcher no longer worked! Please see the attached image: the slide switch is towards "Stamina" however the "Speed" is illuminated. The slideswitch seems to be locked in place, I cannot move it.
I only recently had time to tell Sony about this, to which they replied that they cannot help me, since it has been more than 30 days since the repair. I replied explaining that I had this fancy-shmancy protection plan, and perhaps it could be fixed under that umbrella; to which they tactfully retorted that they had (prematurely) terminated my contract, and that if I want, I can send it in and be charged for parts and labor for the thing that they broke. [/rant]
Anyway..I would love to fix this myself, since I am in fact on my own. I took off the keyboard and palmrest, and was unable to find out how to remove the cover that contains the S-buttons/slideswitches/power button/speakers. Is it in there with just clips? This region looks particularly delicate, not that the rest isn't, however I feel as thought I should be especially gentle. Ive checked all the disassembly/teardown links I could find on the sz series, but none seem to detail how to remove this one part.
I've had my Dell XPS M1530 Notebook for just over a year now and I've been having a problem with the lid and getting the notebook to sleep when closed almost since day one!
Essentially, closing the lid does not put the computer to sleep! The screen stays on and the computer stays on. I've checked in the power options and they are all correctly configured to sleep, but I've also tried configuring them to hibernate but this still does not work. I've tried almost all of the software options and settings that I can think of and also opening up the computer to see if there were any loose connections, but everything seems fine!?
Just received a brand new Inspiron 17R SE 7720 and it won't come out of sleep mode after the lid has been closed. Power's fine (battery and mains lead) and sleep mode when the lids up is fine. If I set the power management to hibernate when the lid is closed that's fine as well.
Quick resumption of services via sleep mode is important to the way I work.

I keep my laptop connected to external monitor and turned on 24/7 in the room where I sleep. But at night,
when the room is dark and I'm ready to sleep, I have the power button of the FW emitting this fairly bright green light and it bothers me
I know that in the power options you can change what pressing the power button does, but "lock" isn't an option. Before I upgraded to Windows7, I discovered how to set this but I can't figure out how to do it anymore.

I recently upgraded the video driver on my m1210 and now when I have the lid closed the lcd will randomly turn on and stay on.
I didn't have this problem before I updated the display driver. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a fix for it?
with this new driver my LCD does not shut off when i close the lid.. is there any fix for this? the dell website drivers worked for this, and i sleep with my laptop next to me and the light MUST be off when i sleep.
