I think most of you already looked at various cases and sleeves to protect your expensive new Z, but what about the keyboard?
Dont you hate it when the keys get all shiny with normal use?
I was of getting clear keyboard stickers for my new Z:
Is this truly the best option? How are you planning to protect the keys?
What kind of protection kit you use for vaio z?
Such as lcd protector, keyboard protector, sticker , cleaner, wipe cloth etc.
I was also wondering if anyone has tried any of the Clear protection skins that are available such as Invishield or Phantom Skinz since it appears that this laptop (XPS 16) is such a fingerprint magnet and now i'm seeing from earlier posts that it is prone to minor scratches. I am tough on my lappy since I carry it with me everyday so something like this might be worth it to protect my new investment..... Let me know everyones thoughts, I just ordered my XPS 16 and would like to keep it as scratch free as possible

As I am patiently waiting for MBP 13" to arrive, I was thinking about the best way to protect it from physical damage because I hear that the aluminum body is prone to scratches and dents rather easily.
So, I was curious to know how other members on this board are protecting their MBPs. Are you using a sleeve or a case (shell) or both? I was looking to purchase a Incase Neoprene Sleeve and maybe a specks satin shell, but I don't know if that is overkill or is really needed.
I'm planning to purchase this warranty plan but I'm wondering if it is global. I live in Canada so I'm wondering if I bought this in the US, would it work in Canada as well. In other words, would I be able to use warranty in Canada even if I purchased it in the US (my laptop is from the US as well)?

I dont think this one even has the keyboard cover.
When I bought my laptop, I was offered 5 years of Dell Complete Care Accidental Damage Protection even though I only had ONE year limited warranty. This was all over Dell Chat online support.
The representative assured me that I did NOT have to extend my warranty past one year in order to take advantage of five years of accidental care.
In other words, I would have no coverage on manufacturer's defects past the first year, but if I dropped my laptop four years down the road, Dell would replace or repair it.
I have the Modelle R400 running Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) on it.
If I run Lenovo Vintage Tools programm teh airbag/active protection icon is grey.
If I click on it it starts the installer and I can install it but after a reboot it shows me that it isn't installed/grey icon again.
I recently replaced a HDD with a new SSD into my Hp Pavilion dm4 1265dx and did a re-installation of windows. I have already downloaded and installed most of the drivers required but I am having a hard time trying to find and install Hp Simple pass identity/finger print reader.
Is there anyway to re-install Hp simple pass without having to pay?
I was trying to find the Active Protection System software for Win8 for while now, it's just not coming up anywhere. I really need to disable the disc freezing feature on my V570 cause it's super annoying (especially when watching videos).
Whether the software is available? I've tried the Win7 version, but there are some compatibility issues, so it doesn't work....
Also, if the software is not available yet for Win8, are there other ways of turning this thing off (BIOS, registry)???

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an annoying problem with a Dell 15R-5521 Windows 8 laptop. I tried to do a factory image system recovery via the pre-installed "Dell Backup and Recovery" application. It indicated that the machine would be restarted, however it simply booted back into Windows, as per a normal reboot. I tried this several times, with the same result each time.
I had previously created recovery media on a 16GB USB flash drive, so booted it from this instead. I chose the "Factory Recovery - Deletes data & resets all partitions" option. The process completed successfully, and everything appeared to be fine, however when I looked at the System Protection tab I saw the following.
Protection Settings Available Drives Protection OS (C:) (System) Off?Volume{da47ae8b-20ce-4f8a-8... OffOC (C:) (Missing) On
I've Googled but I can't find anything about this anywhere.
On my Windows 7, APS works well with an icon on the system tray. But in Ubuntu (13.04), because of no driver, I dont know if APS works or not. The question is: does it still work silently without the driver on Ubuntu?If APS doesn't work, is my laptop harmed when it's shaken? Does Lenovo have any solution to get ASP worked on Linux (Ubuntu)?

I installed the ExpressCache with the installer at C:SWTOOLSAPPSExpressCache. All went well and the machine ran faster, for a day.
Now I updated the Harddisk Protection, as recommended by the ThinkVantage System Update to Version 1.77.0.5.
Since this I get an error message at boot time: "2102: Detection Error on HDD2 (Mini SATA). Press ESC to continue." After ESC the machine boots.
But ExpressCache is not working any more. At the command line the command eccmd.exe -info says "**ERROR** ECCmd Requested device is not available : 2."
I suppose, that the update of HD-protection ruined the ExpressCache - cache.
How can I fix ExxpressCache? To any options of eccmd.exe it returns the above error message.
I have validity drivers installed on this machine but not able to find HP SimplePass Identity Protection Software for my HP ProBook 450 G2 running Windows 8.1 64 bit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI think I'm going to be buying the Sony SR 590. One thing about it that slightly upsets me is that it has no separate keyboard keys for Home, End, Page Up/Down. I'm a student and do a lot of writing, and I always use the Home/End buttons, as they're very convenient. I see that on the SR, I would have to use theim with the function key and the arrows. I've never done that before but I guess I'll get used to it. I was wondering if anybody can tell me if this is going to be uncomfortable or if its all in my head.

I'm using a Vaio Z, which is docked when at my desk into a 24" monitor and separate keyboard and mouse.
Which is great, but I miss the Z's keyboard, which is just fantastic.
Then I saw the Vaio JS in a store, and it has a wonderful scrabble style keyboard, similar to the Z.
Just a simple USB keybaord, but very nice indeed, even has an S1 button.

I am looking at getting a Sony BZ series here in the USA. I can't help but notice most of the pictures of the computer have a weird looking keyboard with two extra keys next to the enter key
Ive noticed that the finish on Vaio`s seems to fade very quickly both on the keyboard and on the general black plastic areas,
has anyone used any of these keyboard protector skins as they look good to stop the keyboard fading as well as stopping dust and other bits going behind the keyboard.

where I can find a "TPU" keyboard protector for the Sony Vaio VPC-Z (EU model?). The only one I can find is on eBay but it's only for US models (different enter button) so won't fit... I know this keyboard is really going to become shiny quick because it really holds onto oil badly. It's a lovely keyboard to use, but it really picks up oil a lot more than my older Z21.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a sony vaio vgn-fs315E. I brought it as spares or repairs. i got a xp home disk to install a new operating system.
When i put the disk in and start up the comp everything goes fine untill it says "press any key to install from disk" or whatever it says. So i press any key but nothing happens. I tried like every key on the keyboard but it just dont want to register that i have pressed a key.
Do you think this is a keyboard problem or something more serious?
does the sony SR series have a backlit keyboard. if not its not a big deal. just would be a nice addition thats all.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have to an extent with both the Z9 and X9 at the moment - although probably more with the X - but there's sometimes a sort of sticky 'clicking' when the keys are depressed which leads me to believe that some of the domes are not seated correctly. I have no idea how the domes are arranged for the Z11 - I'm presuming due to weight reasons it won't be a monolithic sheet, but a separate dome per key - but it is definitely happening on more than one key. Rapid typing doesn't seem to be an issue, but the audible feedback causes me to slow down typing.
I'm weighing up the pros and cons of returning the machines for replacements.
I just got my sony Vaio CTO Z series. I have just used for 3 hours and I can see oily patches on my key area with finger print. I tried heading Sony center to check on there display set, it's horrible as if few thousand people has touched the laptop, all the oily finger print.
Are there any solution to this? I dare not want to use alcohol because it seems the keyboard are quite frigale.
My Tab and Caps lock keys came off. I try to push them in but the top part of the key sticks up.

I would really love to know how to remove the keyboard from my Vaio SR.... I believe the Wireless card is shot... And it's refurb'd so its out of warranty...
I believe the Z and SR have similar designs so if anyone knows how to specifically remove the keyboard I would be forever grateful!
