May 3, 2010As I am patiently waiting for MBP 13" to arrive, I was thinking about the best way to protect it from physical damage because I hear that the aluminum body is prone to scratches and dents rather easily.
So, I was curious to know how other members on this board are protecting their MBPs. Are you using a sleeve or a case (shell) or both? I was looking to purchase a Incase Neoprene Sleeve and maybe a specks satin shell, but I don't know if that is overkill or is really needed.

Dec 26, 2009When I bought my laptop, I was offered 5 years of Dell Complete Care Accidental Damage Protection even though I only had ONE year limited warranty. This was all over Dell Chat online support.
The representative assured me that I did NOT have to extend my warranty past one year in order to take advantage of five years of accidental care.
In other words, I would have no coverage on manufacturer's defects past the first year, but if I dropped my laptop four years down the road, Dell would replace or repair it.
Lenovo ThinkPad L R/SL :: R400 Active Protection / Airbag Isn't Installed

If I run Lenovo Vintage Tools programm teh airbag/active protection icon is grey.
If I click on it it starts the installer and I can install it but after a reboot it shows me that it isn't installed/grey icon again.

Aug 19, 2012I recently replaced a HDD with a new SSD into my Hp Pavilion dm4 1265dx and did a re-installation of windows. I have already downloaded and installed most of the drivers required but I am having a hard time trying to find and install Hp Simple pass identity/finger print reader.

Feb 28, 2013I was trying to find the Active Protection System software for Win8 for while now, it's just not coming up anywhere. I really need to disable the disc freezing feature on my V570 cause it's super annoying (especially when watching videos).
Whether the software is available? I've tried the Win7 version, but there are some compatibility issues, so it doesn't work....
Also, if the software is not available yet for Win8, are there other ways of turning this thing off (BIOS, registry)???

Mar 12, 2013I have an annoying problem with a Dell 15R-5521 Windows 8 laptop. I tried to do a factory image system recovery via the pre-installed "Dell Backup and Recovery" application. It indicated that the machine would be restarted, however it simply booted back into Windows, as per a normal reboot. I tried this several times, with the same result each time.
I had previously created recovery media on a 16GB USB flash drive, so booted it from this instead. I chose the "Factory Recovery - Deletes data & resets all partitions" option. The process completed successfully, and everything appeared to be fine, however when I looked at the System Protection tab I saw the following.
Protection Settings Available Drives Protection OS (C:) (System) Off?Volume{da47ae8b-20ce-4f8a-8... OffOC (C:) (Missing) On
I've Googled but I can't find anything about this anywhere.

Jul 25, 2012I have a brand new E530 with 16 GB SSD. Product Code: 3259A29.
I installed the ExpressCache with the installer at C:SWTOOLSAPPSExpressCache. All went well and the machine ran faster, for a day.
Now I updated the Harddisk Protection, as recommended by the ThinkVantage System Update to Version 1.77.0.5.
Since this I get an error message at boot time: "2102: Detection Error on HDD2 (Mini SATA). Press ESC to continue." After ESC the machine boots.
But ExpressCache is not working any more. At the command line the command eccmd.exe -info says "**ERROR** ECCmd Requested device is not available : 2."
I suppose, that the update of HD-protection ruined the ExpressCache - cache.
How can I fix ExxpressCache? To any options of eccmd.exe it returns the above error message.

Jan 15, 2010I have just been given a VAIO PCG8A2M (GRX316MP) , i was told "it's broken but if you can fix it yo can have it" so having a quick look at it there's no sign of life on the display but the lights come on and i can here the HDD heads moving about.
Looking a little more i found that all the ram is missing , so now im not sure if its worth buying some ram to see if it works or not ? The lack of ram would prob explain the lack of display but i wonder if i should be getting POST beeps at least, which im not.
So my question is if a VAIO had no ram should (if all else was working) it be getting POST beeps ?

I had it on my SZ and loved it over the XP Blue. Is there a way to get it back? I still have the restore discs from the SZ.

Jul 4, 2009I don't know whats the diference (besides the price), between VAIO TZ295N & VAIO TZ395N. Specs in all the websites I've checked say they have exactly the same components: Intel coreduo 1.33Ghz 2GB RAM DVD-RW and 64GB SSD Hardrive. I was wonder if the diference might be in the hard drive interface, with the TZ295N being PATA and TZ395N being SATA.
