Dec 25, 2009Im thinking about to install 4GB RAM on SZ3XP. It only supports 2GB and Im wondering if it can take 4GB.
Anyone tried? is there a workaround or something?

Sep 30, 2009I'm thinking about changing my HDD, since it's a 4200rpm 200GB.
I was thinking about getting a Samsung SATAII 7200rpm( storage doesn't matter that much, I already own an external device, as long as it's not less than my current HDD ).
But I was told that my Vaio model, VGN FZ140E, doesn't support SATAII. So I'd have to choose a SATA 5400rpm HDD.
I'd like to ask you how can I check it this is true. If so, would changing my HDD be a noticeable upgrade?
Also, among these brands, which one would you choose( for better performance, low noise, low energy comsumption etc. ): Samsung, WD or Seagate?

May 13, 2012I have been anxiously awaiting the X240 as a possible upgrade to my Thinkpad collection. It turns out the X240 supports only 8GB of RAM with but 1 DIMM slot. The X230 supports 16GB with 2 DIMM slots.

Aug 8, 2009I've just bought a refurbished SXPS 1340 from a 3rd party retailer (www.ndc.co.uk). So far I'm very happy with it- yeah, it gets a little hot, but that just means my thighs are kept warm.
My question is to do with the touchpad- I've just downloaded the Synaptics drivers from the Dell support website, and have got the whole "pinch zoom" "look at me, I'm an iPhone" thing going on; however, I'm getting nothing from circular scrolling.
I can't find any reference in the stuff I got with it to say whether the 1340 actually supports this feature, or if I'm just making a mess of it.

Jul 21, 2009My Precision 4300 and Latitude D830 both had a modular bay that supported these batteries. They are extremely useful, as they're hot swappable and provide a boatload more power. I have 4 of them and can have power through any plane trip.
Looking at the models that Dell sells now, I can't seem to find any that would support modular batteries. It seems there is still a modular bay but no battery that would fit it.
Has Dell gone completely insane? That was the #1 feature that kept me with Dells all these years. Does anyone know anything about why they're not and if they will be supported again?

So does that mean my laptop supports mSATA (but it is empty) or this is just some error, and is there a way to check if my laptop has support for mSATA withou pulling it apart ?

Feb 20, 2010So at first I was confused but now I understand. First official, completely top to bottom support for all mobility cards (in the specified range of course) will come out with 10.3. What they didn't say that SOME mobility cards will be already supported with 10.2 and our " Dell (Studio XPS 16 Mobility Radeon HD 4670)" is on that list.
This was posted in another thread, but this wasn't the focus. They also have beta 10.3s...but I thought it was neat that official 10.2 WHQL certified drivers supported our card ....

Oct 11, 2009I have installed Windows 7 Ulitimate on my FZ280. I followed the instructions of ScuderiaConchiglia and the win7 suggestions of Dr Pratik. The instructions seemed to be perfect.
I installed the OS and followed his instructions. Everything seems to work perfectly, including the Fn keys.
But I have found my first issue. I am having problems playing blu ray discs. I have tried Windows Media Player, DivX and Cyberlind PowerDVD to no avail

It looked easy just until I opened the memory cover and found out there is some kid of mechanism, which I don't know. Nevermind, just slide it there and lightly pressed and it was there, even though not in the way I expected (see red circles)
Turned on, checked in My Computer...and surprise, there's written just 504 MB of RAM. Quick check in SIW and it looks like it's installed properly

Aug 16, 2009I downloaded 2 different downloads, and burned on two different DVDs. I get a screen that says "loading files" (first screen) and they both freeze at the EXACT same spot .
I had vista earlier, then got windows 7 RC so it has worked fine before. I wiped my HDD with killdisk (to get rid of hidden vista files) and had a boot-up windows 7 disk, which worked fine in my test beforehand, but fails now. So I have NO OS, NOTHING. In my house, my laptop is the only computer with a DVD burner. Formating with a flash drive is difficult because the rest of the computers have XP and I can't disk part them (XP doesn't recognize flash drives in command prompt) Way too advanced for me. So I downloaded windows 7, put it on a flash drive, then put it on my laptop (that has Linux puppy) and burned it onto a DVD again. Same result .....

Mar 20, 2010gave me his VGN-NS140E a couple weeks back, saying his son F'd it up again, and needs me to do a reinstall of everything. Thought it'd be easy right? Well, Win7 installs about half way, and then says some files are unavailable or corrupted, and then quits. Same disk was used to install Win7 Pro on two of my other machines.
So I tried ubuntu, and found that after reaching the main screen, no matter which option I choose, install/run without install/check disk for defects/etc, it just reboots the machine.
I've worked with tons of thinkpads, only a couple of Vaios, but never came across anything like this...

Aug 21, 2009My problem is that I bought a VAIO laptop (VGN-FW31M) and it came with windows vista. So I formated it and installed Windows XP PRO SP·3.
(I had the common SATA driver problem but I managed to solve it).
The problem comes when I try to install any driver, even the CHIPSET driver.
I get a message saying:
"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software. Setup will exit"
I got all the drivers from the sony official site.
