View 7 RepliesI'm thinking about changing my HDD, since it's a 4200rpm 200GB.
I was thinking about getting a Samsung SATAII 7200rpm( storage doesn't matter that much, I already own an external device, as long as it's not less than my current HDD ).
But I was told that my Vaio model, VGN FZ140E, doesn't support SATAII. So I'd have to choose a SATA 5400rpm HDD.
I'd like to ask you how can I check it this is true. If so, would changing my HDD be a noticeable upgrade?
Also, among these brands, which one would you choose( for better performance, low noise, low energy comsumption etc. ): Samsung, WD or Seagate?
Does ThinkPad T440 still supports Windows XP (I don't think so)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq nc6230 that was working fine over the years and suddenly when the power button is pressed, the unit powers on and displays the HP splash screen for about 30 seconds, then I get a Non system disk or disk error. The unit then shuts off its self.
I have swapped known working RAM and Hard drive with same results.
Also, when I enter in setup the hard drive diagnostic option is grayed out ( with or without hard drive installed ).
Im thinking about to install 4GB RAM on SZ3XP. It only supports 2GB and Im wondering if it can take 4GB.
Anyone tried? is there a workaround or something?
I have been anxiously awaiting the X240 as a possible upgrade to my Thinkpad collection. It turns out the X240 supports only 8GB of RAM with but 1 DIMM slot. The X230 supports 16GB with 2 DIMM slots.

No, I am not going to buy one. What is up with this decision, Lenovo?
I've just bought a refurbished SXPS 1340 from a 3rd party retailer (www.ndc.co.uk). So far I'm very happy with it- yeah, it gets a little hot, but that just means my thighs are kept warm.
My question is to do with the touchpad- I've just downloaded the Synaptics drivers from the Dell support website, and have got the whole "pinch zoom" "look at me, I'm an iPhone" thing going on; however, I'm getting nothing from circular scrolling.
I can't find any reference in the stuff I got with it to say whether the 1340 actually supports this feature, or if I'm just making a mess of it.
I have inspiron 5520 with 2 gb RAM. I would like to upgrade RAM as it is loads of time to do multitasking. I tried to search to RAM with service tag but it not get any results on dell hardware purchase website. which RAM should I install and what is the maximum capacity of RAM it supports.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Precision 4300 and Latitude D830 both had a modular bay that supported these batteries. They are extremely useful, as they're hot swappable and provide a boatload more power. I have 4 of them and can have power through any plane trip.
Looking at the models that Dell sells now, I can't seem to find any that would support modular batteries. It seems there is still a modular bay but no battery that would fit it.
Has Dell gone completely insane? That was the #1 feature that kept me with Dells all these years. Does anyone know anything about why they're not and if they will be supported again?
I have Dell inspiron 7520SE  laptop which has two configurations with mSATA connection and preinstalled mSATA card and without mSATA connection. Mine is without preinstalled mSATA card, but I found in bios
mSATA Device : [Not detected]
So does that mean my laptop supports mSATA (but it is empty) or this is just some error, and is there a way to check if my laptop has support for mSATA withou pulling it apart ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday, somebody (without my permission) updated my laptop from windows 8.0 to 8.1. Later I found out that this person didn't make the, according to the HP supportpage, necessary  preparations. HP warns that my laptop now can get problems, like a blank screen, loss of internet connectivity and disabled hardwaredevices. I bought my laptop about 1 year ago.  It's a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC 64-bit.

The computer is less than a month old. I went to that day's downloads and deleted everything I found from that day. Since then, I have no sound. I probably deleted something but I thought I was pretty careful. Can I download a sound card?

Mostly its an indication of improper RAM or Hard disk . I have an ADP. Do i go for the replacement of this piece.? Also on searching on the internet i  have found this issue very common among the HP laptops. Is there any setting that i might be missing?Â

Every time I boot it up, I see the Hp logo appear and then go away after a few seconds like usual but instead of seeing the Windows logo, theres just a blank black screen command prompt and nothing happens at all. I did a self hard drive test and memory test in bios and they both passed. I tried going into the system recovery option on startup and it does the same as when I start it up and go to that blank command prompt.
I have a HP 2000 Notebook Running Windows 8. Â As of last night it was working fine. Â Since this morning it will not turn back on. Â I have tried the hard reset with a removed battery. Â Nothing happened. Â No lights, no fan, no movement nor sound.

If you have never heard about Windows tax, Windows refund or anyone ever getting refund for Windows OS then perhaps it is time to look it up.
I don't think many people are aware of the fact that it is possible (and you have the all the rights to) to get a refund for Windows OS if you aren't planning to use it.
Getting Windows OS refund is like returning unused/unneeded product to get your money back. For example, if you are using Linux on your computer, why should you pay for Windows OS? Or, if your study institution provides FREE premium Windows OS, why should you pay for the crippled one that comes with your computer? Why should you even be forced to use Windows?
I decided not to pay for Windows OS. It is in the principle.
Please note: The key in getting Windows OS refund is in DECLINING the EULA agreement the first time computer boots up (or not turning computer on at all). If you accepted the EULA you are out of luck!
Here is how I got Windows OS refund from Acer Canada:
I purchased my Acer Aspire 1410 from Canadian Staples Business Depot. For 5 days I played around with it by booting Ubuntu Linux from SDHC card to make sure it was working correctly, there were no defects, etc, and after making the final decision of keeping the notebook, I picked up the phone and called Acer Technical Support (1-866-706-2237).
After getting a hold for an agent I explained that I would like to get a refund for Windows Vista Home Premium that came pre-installed on my laptop and quoted EULA agreement:
Quote:
By using the software, you accept these terms [of EULA agreement]. If you do not accept them, do not use the software. Instead, contact the manufacturer or installer to determine their return policy for a refund or credit...................
I have a HP Notebook 2000, with Windows 8.1. At some point, the hdmi output to monitor stopped sending an audio signal. The video signal is fine.
It is labeled in Device Manager: 1-STD HDMI TV (AMD High Definition Audio)
Â
The monitor and hdmi cable work fine with other computers. I have disabled/enabled the HDMI device, and also updated drivers (Windows says my drivers are up to date).
