View 3 RepliesJust wondering whether those that use Windows on their Mac spend most of their time in OSX, Windows, 50:50 etc...
Personally I haven't installed Windows on my Mac yet, but am thinking about it.....
I finally finished re-installing all my apps and whatnot, but Windows 7 Beta is quite nice!

This was done on an early 2009 white Macbook, with Vista SP2. Your mileage may vary. I'm not responsible for any damage or loss of files. On that note, always remember to backup data before doing a reformat!
First of all, I booted from the OS X Install disc, went into Disk Utility, clicked on the hard drive and selected Partition. From there, I created a new single partition, under options I selected Master Boot Record table. After it was done I rebooted, holding the ALT/Option key until I got into the boot manager, and I ejected the OS X disc and inserted the Windows disc (I am using the original Vista RTM disc in this case, and I installed SP1 and SP2 later)...........
I absolutely love the new Macbook Pro 13" hardware. The unibody case and high quality panel makes me want to buy one right now. Nobody really offers anything similar. The problem for me, however is the fact that it comes with and runs OS X, and as far as I understand I will need to use Apple software (bootcamp) to run Windows. Is it at all possible to modify the computer to run Windows exclusively? And if I do run Windows through Apple software, are there any limitations to what I can do there or is it exactly the same as on a regular PC laptop? Running OS X is not an option, as alot of very specialized software I use is Windows only and I frankly dislike Apple OS.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi am planning on running windows xp on my mac (dual boot); do you lose control of the fan speed? multi-touch(specifically, right click)? calibration profile?
i can't seem to find it anywhere online.
I'm going to uni next year to study CSc and have been told nearly every system they run is an XP machine. I also checked what software they run, and it turns out the majority aren't available for the mac. I asked them what would be best for the course and they told me I would get better support if I had a PC and that there may be workarounds for macs. However, the person I spoke to (head of faculty) has no experience whatsoever with OS X.
Anyway, the thing is I want to keep my current macbook mainly because I find it hard to part with and the second being I don't have the cash to dish out on another notebook of comparable quality.
The question: Which version of Windows (XP/Vista/7) runs best on a Macbook?
By this I mean which has the greater support (drivers), and is most stable to work with (incl/ battery life, less glitches etc).
Also, will Snow Leopard provide better compatibility with Windows and how? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide me with.
I posted a thread alittle while ago about the heat issue...Has anyone else had high readings from just playing a low res game?

I can't install any video driver except the ones from Dells website. Laptopvideo2Go bluescreens on an install.
I tried reinstalling Windows XP (different disk, latest build). Same problem!
And if I try to use coolbits with Dell drivers, I get bluescreen as well when trying to open Nvidia control panel.
As much as I hate apple for the raping prices and locking down systems, this would really make up for the lack of things the ipad can't do.

I ran Win7's Upgrade Advisor and got a couple flags on Inspiron 9400's hardware. But I've heard that people have nstalled Win7 on them (with mixed results).
A couple reports on graphics malfunctions, and someone said the Sigmatel drivers were not found.
I wouldn't bother, but I have a couple development projects that require Win7.
Wondering if anyone has had good luck with Win7, and whether there are certain things to watch out for. All drivers work OK? Did you install 32-bit or 64-bit?
I'm getting a strange problem on my dv6500t with my dual booted Windows 7 RC install (same issue with the Beta). My searches have been inconclusive.
Using W7 as one user is fine, but if I leave one user logged in and switch user accounts, things start acting wierd...Anti-virus fails to start (I've uninstalled AV and the rest still occur)Can't use the IE button on the task barIE doesn't log in to some websites (e.g. AOL mail)slowness Lots of permanent window and menu artifact ghosting that only clears after logging out This only happens when 2 users are logged in at one time... one user works just dandy.
I'm just suspicious of my HP... the friggen thing crashes on me enough or doesn't resume from hibernate/sleep so I'm not confident in the crap.
i am using a Hp 2000-2312TU laptop. It is just about 15 months old. I use it with windows 8. my laptop was getting heated up a lot. i used sppedfan to test it. temperatures were showing around 83 degree celsius. I took it to a shop and they said some error with heat sink IC and replaced it. Now the temp is ranging between 65-70 degree celsius. is it okay? HDD temp is ~40 deg celsius. I use my laptop always on bed or lap. is a cooling pad must?
P.S. the reason why i took it for servicng is that it showed thermal shutdown messages everytime i was rebooting it.
I use an HP ENVY M6 notebook running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I was seeing a lot of unwanted popups telling me I needed Java or other add ons which I don't. The computer is less than a month old. I went to that day's downloads and deleted everything I found from that day. Since then, I have no sound. I probably deleted something but I thought I was pretty careful. Can I download a sound card?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had this laptop 2 days and today its doing all sorts of strange things. Several times it has gone black screen (not shutdown, just like it had the battery yanked out and lost power). I had one message that there was a problem and windows had to shutdown and gave an error like 0xa0000001 or something.
But even before i had this i was worried. Some of the first things i did was install some benchmark programs. speccy, cpuid, gpu-z. cpuid doesn't show the temps, but speccy showed the cpu cores all running at 80-90 just with windows sitting doing nothing. it highlights anything over 80 as red. gpu-z shows the dual graphics with similar but about 5 degrees lower temps and shows the amd radeon hd 8670M card as far lower temps. a fan inside seems to be on and when temps get above 95 seems to go into high gear. but i have seen speccy showing temps of 106 C!
i think this is what is causing the laptop to blackout and restart; temps going over 105 for any time at all. in short it runs windows, with occasionally even with psu plugged in dimming of the laptop screen. but try and run something, such as an internet connection, plugging anything into usb ports that is powered from the laptop, or browsing the web - not even watching video or streaming just google search! - and the temps jump up to mid 90s or higher.
I just purchased the E540. Running Win 7.1. I have 2 WD 3.0 Passport drives plugged into a USB 3.0 hub. The 3.0 hub has the correct cable for 3.0. They are not being recognized as 3.0 devices (I get a message). I updated the USB 3.0 driver on lenovo's site and BIOS is set to auto.recognize. I have also tried the 3.0 option in the BIOS but that didn't do anything. I also tried using the drives without the hub in one of the 3.0 USB slots but that didn't do anything either.
I have checked the forum but what I found was possibly purchasing a 3.0 cable (not necessary - my cable is 3.0 compliant) but that was for a Wn 8 system or updating 3.0 device driver (done). So much for plug and play.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7. I try to turn on my computer, it goes through the Dell logo screen and comes up to a black screen with a blinking white cursor in the upper left corner and will not go any further. I have pushed F2 and F12 during the Dell logo screen, but no way. I have run the diagnostics for my computer, but it reports no errors, everything passes. I have also tried hitting the F8 and Ctrl+F11 keys during the Dell logo screen, but neither of these do anything, I have the OS disc for reinstallation, but because of the computer not going past the black screen with the white blinking cursor in the upper left corner, I cannot reinstall Windows because it will not restart correctly. What do I do?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a month-old dell inspiron 5323 13z running windows 8 that stopped booting yesterday. I had a problem with booting since I got the laptop, namely the boot always stopped and had to press ctr+salt+del to continue the boot process. Dell support recommended the usual things: updating the bios, the OS, resetting the system to factory settings with no effect. Finally, I have decided I can leave this minor annoyance until know when it stopped booting at all after hybernating the system (there was no problem with hybernate before this incident).
So, it displays the dell logo for a short time when powering up, then the screen goes blank but not completely black. After pressing some keys like space a text 'f12 options' is printed in the lower right corner and en empty horizontal bar may appear. Then typing ctrl+alt+del or some random keys the boot may continue and at this point it may be possible to enter the boot menu by pressing f12. So I can change the boot option to uefi or legacy, but neither works. There is no option to boot from USB or anything else (no DVD drive anyway!). So I cannot even try to boot a linux live CD. However, i remember that these options existed before before in the boot order or priority list which is empty now. I can run the pre-boot diagnostics from the boot menu, but it does not find any problem.

the past week my audio has not been working properly (no sounds at all). i'd be able to fix it just by uninstalling and then reinstalling the idt hd audio driver, and then it work fine, but the next day when i turn on my laptop again the same problem happens. i decided to install the update for the audio driver, thinking maybe that would fix the problem. but it didn't. same thing keeps happening, whenever i start my laptop, no audio and i have to reinstall the drivers (i have to reinstall the original driver + the update now to get the audio working).
I have a HP 2000 Notebook Running Windows 8. As of last night it was working fine. Since this morning it will not turn back on. I have tried the hard reset with a removed battery. Nothing happened. No lights, no fan, no movement nor sound.

I want to buy a macbookpro laptop. Because I have to work with windows as well I am trying to get a sense of the processor speed running on Mac under parallels or vmware, especially on the 2.8Ghz or 3.06Ghz (but not only) processors.
Can you run super_pi (you can find it from one of the links at the bottom on this page: [url] in the windows virtual machine (parallels or vmware) with 2M digits and then post the following information:
- processor speed
- software used (parallels or vmware)
- windows os host (XP or Vista or W7)
- super_pi result (2M digits),
do i need an antivirus and internet security package when running windows on my mac?

Unless I can get Evernote up and running the way I like, I'll need to use Microsoft OneNote quite a bit. My question is this -- given that I've never worked with OS virtualization / VMs before, just how seamless is VirtualBox running any given Windows operating system with Office running inside of that? Would my OneNote notebooks just be saved somewhere in my home directory in OS X, readily accessible for backups and the like?
i already use a wireless tether to my cell phone as a modem. works great, but when i try to sync btooth i get "not supported by windows" I checked windows support .it says that btooth is in the sware
