Acer Aspire 5560 :: On Reformat Receives (Fail To Customize WinRe For Recovery Utility) Error
Dec 4, 2014
I tried to reformat my Acer Aspire 5560. It goes through the System Disk, Recovery Disk 1, 2, 3, and 4 then on the Language Disk towards the end it receives a "Fail to Customize WinRe for recovery utility error".
Â
I have seen this error when people tried to create a recovery partition for the future but in this case I need it to get my computer back to working again!
Â
In the meantime it won't reboot and says BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart and just goes in a loop.

If I plug in the charger the LED light turns on with orange and if I leave it, it will eventually turn blue. Yet will still not power up. I have a new battery for it. I have tried removing battery and letting it stand then hold power button for 1 minute then plugging in but that didn't work.

Ideapad Z585 AMD A8-4500 1.9Ghz
AMD Radeon HD7640
My 11 month old Ideapad failed to boot last night with error 'BL Initialize Library Error 0xc0000029'. Eventually a blue screen appeared saying that multiple start attempts had failed and the system needed repair.
Â
As suggested I tried to use One key recovery but choosing restore to factory settings leads to self same failure.Sadly I have misplaced the recovery disc I created during a house revamp so cannot try that route.

During restore using Acer recovery disks for this Acer aspire 551, the recovery stalls at the final step where the wim file is written to the c: drive. Â It gives me an i/o error.
I suspect that the disk is functional because I have run the cmd.exe program from the x:drive and then run both scndsk.exe and scndsk.exe /F to fix any errors. Â No errors were detected.
However, any fix for this error that I have encountered suggests replacing the hardrive. This seems to be inappropriate, in this case.
I should also say that I have used dos commands to copy a file from the system32 directory to the c: drive successfully suggesting that there is no problem with writing to the disk.
Lastly, the cd rom hardware must be working or the disks would not be successfully read to the final stage. Â How this can be an i/o error eludes me.

I need to restore the system to factory default. When I tried, I got this error:
"Hard drive configuration is not set to the factory default. Restore aborted."
When I checked the partitions, the drive structure was as follows:

2) :Other         7.46GB   GPT (Unused Partition)

1) How can I find or get to the Recovery Partition?
2) If not possible, can I reinstall Windows from scratch and remove all those partitions, or what becomes of them?
I'm not sure how Acer or Windows handles the Main 500GB HD and the 24GB SSD when a reinstall is done.

today I bought a Acer Travelmate B115 (M41 RQ).
I has a rudimentary Linux installed, which I want to delete and then install a Windows7 Prof SP1 64bit from DVD.
After changing the order of the boot devices and putting the USB-DVD drive first the Travelmate tries to boot from the DVD but then tells me 'Security Boot Error'. I tried it more than 10 times, same error each time. The external USB-DVD drive is working fine on another computer.
Â
I also prepared a bootable USB stick, but this one doesn't even get noticed by the Travelmate.

Acer Aspire V3-772G - BIOS setup utility menu items have disappeared
Â
I have setup this brand new laptop, pre-installed with Windows 8.1, for my sister-in-law who bought it. Â The installation went well BUT the 16GB USB device which I purchased as advised by the Acer literature to store the recovery partition was not big enough, the physical capacity being 14.4GB. Â The Acer book says use a 16GB device or larger so I did. Â I naively thought that a USB drive which was labelled 16GB would be appropriate. Â Not so. Â I have had to buy a larger one but am still awaiting delivery.
Â
I therefore decided to image the whole HDD to save the work I had done but found that the Acronis Backup and Recovery DVD would not boot. Â I went into the setup utility and adjusted the Boot settings to legacy and changed device priority. Â Acronis would not run so I did not continue. Â I went back into the setup utility, used F9 to restore the default and found to my astonishment that the DUAL boot option had now disappeared and the Windows Boot option had also vanished.
Â
This means that this £800 laptop is now unusable.  The setup utility self-reconfigured without warning.  Nowhere is there any advice or warning not to use the setup utility in case it erases features which cannot be recovered by using F9 to recover the default configuration.  If this is not a serious design fault, I don't know what is.Â
Â
I am deeply worried because the idea of a BIOS setup utility behaving this way seems so improbable. Â How is it that the setup utility has been designed to self-harm like this?

I would like to create a dual-boot Vista and Ubuntu on Dell Studio XPS 13. When I tried to partition the hard disk, I found that there are Dell Utility and Recovery partitions.
What are these partitions? Is it safe to delete them? If I delete them, can I restore them back again? How can I backup, if possible, these partitions to CD or DVD before deleting them

I have an Inspiron 5520 with Win 8 and for the last few days every time the system boots up I get the following message: "checking media (fail)". The message appears twice then the system boots normally. All the programs/apps work fine. The only "media" program I used was Windows Movie Maker and it works just fine.

I thought I'd give Windows 7 a whirl on my snazzy new machine.
So, as the number of partitions on my hard drive has been maxed out by Dell (Media, Recovery,
the enigmatic OEM partition, and C drive) I went for the upgrade option. This turned McAfee into instant nagware,
I thought "ah well, just restore vista from the dell recovery partition...

what of an extensive issue on a dv2710us on Vista.
One of the crippling elements of this whole situation is this computers CD drive is not working. Windows was not recognizing a CD/DVD drive present, which is what I was trying to fix. So I accessed the recovery manager by pressing F11 on bootup to have Windows install all of the original files, but not format the C drive. Well it began formatting the C drive, and a progress bar showed up so I powered down the PC before it got past 0%. When I powered it back up, I get a "Bootmgr is missing" message and am unable to get past that.
After doing some research online, I accessed the recovery manager and opened Command, and did a Bootrec /fixboot, the operation completed and upon restarting, it booted straight to the recovery manager. I was no longer able to boot to the C drive. I did a little more research and opened up Command again, and used DISKPART to make the C drive active.
This time after rebooting the cmoputer, I am once again given the Bootmgr is missing message. Not only that, I am unable to press f11 to get to recovery manager anymore.
At this point, I mainly need to access the harddrive so I can backup some improtant files, and then do a full reformat of the C drive. I have a disc of Ubuntu I had the idea of loading up to access the C drive, however since the DVD drive is not recognizing discs I am unable to use it. I also downloaded a Vista recovery disc from here and placed it a USB stick drive. Upon booting up I can press f9 to select multi boot options. When the drive is inserted the options are Laptop harddrive, and USB diskette. The USB diskette option is not present when I have the stick drive removed. I select to boot from USB diskette and the computer proceeds with a black screen as if it may boot, but then returns to the initial boot up screen (where you can use F keys to access BIOS, etc.) and then got to Bootmgr is missing.

HP dv7-3065dx Entertainment Notebook. Win 7.
Â
HP battery alert system detected battery capacity to be very low error 601 (internal battery). So I changed the cell to a new CR 2032 battery. Showed the same error. I changed to another new CR2032 battery. The second time I did this I had a new 502 CMOS error along with the 601 error. My clock reverted back to 2009, I lost some of the icons on the lower right, and my wireless internet disappeared.
Â
Now I have two things that need to be fixed.
Â
I turned on, immediately hti ESC, hit system diag. F2, Battery Test:
Battery Test Primary FAILED (on the first battery I put in, didn't check on the second)
Â
Control - Device Mgr. -Â HP - Batteries - Microsoft AC Adapter, Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and Microsoft Composit Battery all show that they work.
Â
System CMOS/realtime clock says its working.
Â
Microsoft System Mgmt. - BIOS Driver v. 6.1.7601.17514 from 6/21/2006 says it's the latest version.
Â
I've manually updated my clock. I'll figure out the wireless and icons later I guess. Just need to know what to do about the errors.

so I recently ordered my Studio XPS 16 and hopefully it will be coming 5/15/09(crossing fingers).
I am debating if I should reformat when I get it, I am a little nervous about doing it.
I was just thinking about manually uninstalling some of the crap that comes with it, like the facial recognition since I know I wont use it. Will I see a noticeable performance increase if I reformat? Or should I just uninstall the things I wont use?

Has anyone self customized their Vaio Z.
What i mean by this is buying a stock low model Z (kind of like a barebone), then modifying each component by themselves. I'm looking into buying a Z690 or z790 and possibly adding my own T9900 3.06ghz intel chip and DDR3 with self selected SSD harddrive.
Do you think it's worth the time in doing this? would I actually be saving money or would it be more of a hassle?
Now with this in mind, I'm able to get a pretty high end Z series in Taiwan.
VGN-Z48TD
Platform Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo processor P9700 (2.80 GHz)
6gb Ram
320gb HDD
$2,276 USD
By getting that model, all i have to do is upgrade to a SSD with something better.

I used 2 X 2GB memory but on my BIOS it recon only 3.3 GB, but few days ago my laptop going nuts, my geforce 7300 go is falling.
after contacted my local acer service, and they examine my laptop, they found my mem card had no problem on it, and the upgrade my BIOS to clean up the mess but, my mem reduce from 3.3 to only 3 gb. it all at the bios mem check, not on OS. they said this laptop didn't support 4 GB memory, that's wierd, on this notebook spec it said up to 4 GB. not 3 GB.
so where the going wrong? since I already run this laptop with 4 GB ram and recon it as 3.3 gb and had no problem with it, for a long times, but after had problem with the geforce faling down it can't recon 3.3 gb after they fix it with upgrade the bios. I think the problem goes to the motherboard, if I goes to old bios the geforce is falling down, if I stay on this bios it's only recon 3 gb ram mem. they can't explain why this happen.
and the bottom line, you guys with acer laptop and using 4 GB ram memory should check at the bios, how much it recon, it as 4 GB or 3.3 GB.
since IMHO the OS never will be using 4 GB if the bios didn't recon it.
but there is some glicth if you look at the system information it recon 4 GB but, on bios it recon as 3 GB and the task manager recon it as 3 GB

I've been getting the BSOD error on my PC. The main ewrror is 0x000000f4 but I sometimes get the 77 error as well. Most times i need to reboot and then I get the 200 fixed hard disk 0 failed error . If I click F! i get yet another error, PXE.61 error and this takes my rebooting quite a few times in order to get windows xp (media center edition) to come uo it stays on for a while (the length of time is getting shorter and shoryer these days) and then I have to go through the entire scenario over again. I'm trying to remove the files and programs that I actually care about off this comp. I contacted Acer tech support and was told that it most likely a HArd drive problem and that it would need to be replaced They had the wrong warranty ending date for me and after providing proof of purchase, they changed it to 11/23/07. Now that I have about 8 days left on my warranty. the tech support person told me to purchase the extended warranty because if I ship it to them and the warranty expires, I will have to pay for the service. Now my question is this. I'm not too sure that it would be worth shipping it to them for repairs I will have to pay $99 for the warranty plus tax and At least $100 to ship it back to them. On top of that I have read horror stories about people who sent their comps in to be repaired and it being returned to them with scratches on the LCD, initial problems not repaird or additional problems after the comp was returned to them. I'd much rather carry it in to a shop but was told their are no local repair shops in my city except for geek squad and they will charge me since I didn't purchase my comp from them. WHat would you do take it to a local repair shop or pay the bugcks to extend the warranty and then pay to have it shipped to be repaired? Another reason why I am leery is because I bought a HP laptop last year. the Ac adapter jack ont he comp was loose so I shipped it to HP to have it repaired. they had my comp for almost a month and then told me the motherboard, keyboard, speakers, and LCD display was unsalvageable and that it would cost me over $1000 to have it replaced(i only paid $369 for it on black Friday). They also told me that I had a liquid spill which was a total lie as I keep my laptop in my bedroom and I never eat or drink in my bedroom.( come to find out that loose jacks are a known problem with some Hp laptops I have read horror storeies about Acer using the dreaded liquid spill excuse too and I don't want to go through the drama again. Are the BSOD errors definitely the fault of a faulty hard drive?
