I have tried downloading the current BIOS from the US site, uncompressing the files and running the application and recieve " open flash.sys fail".
THEN I tried downloading V1.8 from the european site and again, unzipped the files, looked everything over, and ran the application and got the same
error "open flash.sys fail" I am a rookie, and I want to upgrade the processor to a dual core cpu, but cant even get the BIOS updated. HELP! Its frustrating. I have an Acer Aspire 5315 with a dual core cpu and I love it. I just want ot upgrade my 4315.
I have tried creating a recovery disk using the ‘Acer Empowering Technology’ but every time i click on the “create factory default disc” button, the “Acer eRecovering Management” freezes and i get an error message saying : Acer Empowering Technology Framework launcher has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows is collecting more information about the problem.
Another thing, i know how to unhide the 'PQSERVICE' partition, but i'm wondering if it's possible to create these discs directly from the partition without the need for the faulty 'eRecovery Management'. If yes, how?

I've tried to go back to an earlier date using system restore, no results. Can I reset the computer to factory defaults, there is function in the F 11 button, and then retrieve my files. Do I need a recovery disc?
View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday I tried to install Windows XP Mode onto my Vaio Z11. The installation required a Windows Validation, which requested to install a file called WindowsActivationUpdate.exe.
I did that, but the installation failed with error code 0x8007054f ("Internal error"). I tried this several times, but it always failed (once with another error code, 0x80070bc9).
The result is that I cannot install Windows XP Mode, and validation results suggest that I might have a pirated Windows 7 version. I am using the factory-installed Windows 7, obviously
I just received replacement media to install win 7 on Inspiron N5110. Â The install is failing with a general Windows install message, restarts computer to complete setup then errors again. Â I ran the diagnostics again and the memory is getting this error:

My Dell Inspirion 1721 fails to start the Windows boot.
The F8 and CTRL F11 do not work at all. I did the hours long total diagnostic that is built in and everthing passed - so must be software.
How do I recover? Can I just install a new version of Windows (to replace Vista) and save the existing files and software on the laptop?
I have a T440p with Windows 7 Pro. Except on rare occasions, I am unable to log into Windows with my first swipe across the fingerprint reader.  The green light is on when I do the first swipe and it immediately goes off and stays off for around 15 seconds, during which time another swipe does nothing. Then the green light will return and a second finger swipe will log me on.

It's made using the fingerprint reader for login impractical, because it's faster to just go to the password screen and log in that way.Â

View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm using a Dell M-1530 laptop which had a factory installed Vista OS. Now I have bought a Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit OS and did a clean install (no upgrade), I used the Vista drivers and everything seems OK...
But, I have not full upload speed, I'm using a 10/10 Mb/s fiber/LAN internet connection. Download is as before 9,5 Mb/s but upload only ab. 3 Mb/s.
My second PC, a desktop with XP, shows 9,5/9,5 Mb/s and they are connected to the same router. I have changed LAN-cables but there is no change.
I have tried "DrTCP" but it did'nt make any major difference.
I downloaded a 800+ MB game today and was playing it even though it said my graphics card didn't match and stuff... I got a couple runtime errors and the game got shut down, but later I started ignoring the messages when I figured out that way, I can keep playing. Then I "accidentally" responded to the error message and when the game got shut down the computer stopped responding at all. I force-shut down the computer by holding down the power button. Then, after that when I try to turn on the computer the fan starts turning and green light comes up... for about 3 seconds. Then it takes a .1 sec-long break and tries again for another 3 seconds, then gives in completely. It does this when it has power, so I don't think it's the battery. It won't even show the Acer screen at the very beginning. It's a Vista, no recovery CD (do you ever get recovery CD's for Vista?). Any chance we get our notebook alive and kicking again?

My Acer Travelmate 2420 now fails to see the operating system. When I use the restore DVD that I had made it boots up and after a while the recovery runs. I hit a problem when the machine asks for disc 2 to continue the recovery. Only one disc was ever made during the back up session.
A few facts.
Before the OS failed Acer Recovery and other Acer Programs had started to not function.
The C: and D: drives where NTFS Formatted.
I have even considered cleaning the hard drive altogether and installing a new OS. The problem here is that I can't get into DOS Mode.
I've got an HP Pavilion g6-2260sh notebook with Windows 8.1 Pro operating system. My problem is that the internet download speed had fallen from 80 Mbits to 3-4 Mbits. The upload speed stayed the same as before, 25 Mbits. My notebook is connected to a router with another notebook and a PC. Those 2 computers have excellent internet speeds. I've reinstalled the operating system, but the issue still persists. After the reinstallation, the speed was fine for maybe an hour and then it dropped to 3-4. I only installed drivers from the hp driver finder, nothing else. I've tried the connection with cable and wi-fi with the same results. The device manager shows 1 Unknown device and 1 missing driver for Ralink_RT3290_Bluetooth_01

The bios shows the hard drive and its the first in the boot order. If i hit f12 after powering on to access boot options the 3rd choice is efi device windows boot manager. If i select that it boots normally and runs fine. is their a way to boot the machine without having to hit f12 every time and selecting efi device to boot to windows? i tried updating the bios as well.Â

I own a Dell 7520 and it has four 3.0 usb ports. However, I have discovered that one program I use does not support Intel 3.0 USB ports only USB 2.0 ports. So the only port that program will use is the Realtek USB card reader on the 7520 because that is a native 2.0 port.
According to a poster Innogen on the Intel support forum "The BIOS in my Dell Inspiron 7520 allows me to disable it so that the USB 3.0 ports revert to USB 2.0 functionality." but I can't find any such functionality in my BIOS (using version A06).

I tried uninstalling the Intel USB 3.0 drivers in WIn 7 Ultimate hoping that when I rebooted it would install USB 2.0 drivers but it simply reinstalled the USB 3.0 drivers.
I would really like to get this program working on my computer and while I am not happy about losing USB 3.0 functionality I can live with it until the vendor gets its act together and starts to support Intel USB 3.0.
I downgraded this last year to run Win XP, now thinking about wipping it and turning it into a W7 machine.

Alright, I recently installed Windows XP Dark Edition on my 6920G. Now, before going any further, yes this isn't an official version, it's a mod made by people... however, it does work- I installed it on my friends Dell and he has no problems whatsoever.
So, I changed the HDD to IDE mode because SATA and XP don't go together! The whole thing was working fine for about 20 days until this morning the laptop froze. I couldn't move the mouse, and task manager wasn't working. I turned it off and restarted- only to see the load ar on windows freeze. It stays like this for ever and I'm forced to manual restart again. The only thing that successfully works is Safe Mode...

Now, to give a little background info, I've installed another version of XP before this. I had the same problem after a few days no matter how many reinstalls. Also, the XP repair feature (and this is what worries me) says:
No HDD found. Please ensure drives are powered on blah blah...
So, I'm here without a laptop and this familiar problem of a ed OS! Last time, I just formatted the C: drive, and reinstalled. I even updated BIOS incase that was an issue.

Now, I know reinstalling the OS may cure the problem, but it's only a temporary fix, and I want a real solution. I rang Acer support, who tell me it's probably a software problem from microsoft update... I don't really believe this since each time (and I've done about 6 reinstalls of XP) the timing of this fatal error is random, ranging from one day to this- about 20 days.
i installed windows 7 on my 5920g, however, i don't know what to do with empowering technology. Although launch manager is suggested by acer to be installed the other applications are not listed as compatible with windows 7..
I did download them though, and installed them, but at enet communication manager i got a message about known compatibility issues...So i wonder, if there is a compatible version, or if i can use a version of another laptop that originally came with win7 and if so ,which one..?
I just recently bought a Acer Aspire 5739G and installed Windows 7 64 bit. All the bells and whistles are working except the fingerprint reader and the bluetooth.
I've tried a multitude of drivers from the manufacturers website and the acer driver website but to no avail.
Any attempt to install the bluetooth drivers asks for the device to be plugged in or turned on and pressing the BT button only displays the "bluetooth disabled" image on the screen. I can't see any bluetooth device installed in the device manager but there are a bunch of HID-compliant devices under the Human Interface Devices tab.
Installed the Windows 7 x64 Acer Bio Protection all goes fine until the System Wizard where it tells me that it can't detect the fingerprint scanner even tho I can see it installed in the device manager. It's installed as "TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor" under Biometrics.
I'm using aspire E1-510. I run two windows os on my system; win 8.1 and win 7. When I'm running win 7, my USB ports dont work. That's, if I plug my flash drive or any external device, it doesn't work. But when I run win 8.1, they all work well. What do I do so that my USB ports can as well work on win 7?
