I bought a used Acer Aspire One 8.9in Laptop 1.6GHz 1GB 120GB a couple of weeks ago, it works great the only thing that I've noticed is that it only charges the battery while powered on (that is running windows).
If I connect the AC but the laptop is off, it will not charge the battery like any other laptop.
if this is normal for this particular model or is this laptop malfunctioning?
I put on cpu-z ( I got the crappy ram like some of the others) but what I thought was odd that it said FSB was 800 and multiplier was 8 and indicated my CPU was running at 1.6Ghz. Is this an error on CPU-z?
Picked up a great deal on a 1730 with a 128SSD and 320 2nd drive - Does anyone know if the 120 will be faster than if I were to go with 2 7200 rpm drives? The price difference for the SSD is "UP THERE" so I at least want to know if its as fast as a conventional 2 hard drive raid zero approach.
Also does anyone have any links to spec's for the Dell 128SSD? Is it the Memoright 128GB.
I purchased my M1330 over a year ago, with an internal 120gb hard drive.
I just purchased the HITACHI Travelstar 7K320 from NewEgg, since I'd like a both faster and larger drive. However, I am curious about the following:
Right now, my hard drive is flush with the side of my laptop. It has a black trim on the side that is the reason for the flush side. It came this way from Dell. However, in purchasing the new hard drive, what can I do to make the side flush again, as well as the hard drive secure (dust, falling out, etc)? Can dell provide the part (side cover)?
For your reference, you can notice the hard drive cover in this photo (far right of the laptop):

I'm having major trouble with my laptop (an Acer Aspire 3660) which is about 2 years old now. I don't know if there is a problem with the internal power socket or something else, but sometimes when it is plugged it just won't run off the mains or charge the battery. Sometimes I can get it to charge up, seemingly by rotating the power cord cable but at other times it will randomly go to battery even though absolutely nothing has moved, and sometimes it will go to battery power with the slightest little nudge. I don't think this could be related to the battery as the battery seems to work fine (although it does drain quickly I guess it's pretty old in laptop terms). Has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions? I bought a new power cable (completely new including power pack and the plug end) but the problem still happens.
when i get on my computer for extended hours on end, the computer starts getting kinda hot to the touch, i.e. the touchpad feels really really hot. Am i doing something bad or wrong like destroying or melting the insides of my puter? And im using a Celeron 530 @ 1.73 ghz...2 gigs of ram and 80g hard drive.
Im trying to do a factory restore using the Acer eRecovery on Aspire 5100 laptop, which I set up using their wizard, input the password, ran from Vista, it has rebooted and is showing the Windows XP logo and the moving "progress" bar thing. However, after about 3 mins, the bar stops moving and nothing else happens, its been like that for ages now. Resetting the power starts it up and gets to the same point and stops again. I have used it before without problems, the hidden partition was there before I started (I checked). Now I cant do anything with the laptop at all! Can anyone suggest what I can do now? I didn't ever get round to making DVD backup disks. The machine is also 2 years old, and I dont want to spend a fortune on Acer's 50p per min customer service, considering they should've given me a boot disk with the machine in the first place. I only wanted to restore it as for no apparent reason all my USB devices stopped being recognized by vista.
I am about to re-install Windows on my friend's laptop, an Aspire 4520.
I am not super familiar with laptops, however I have noted that at the top of his desktop, there is an utility program, a toolbar that I think is called Empowering Technology. My friend uses it mainly to check his battery charge level, although there are a few other tools in this bar, like "acer eData Security Management".
The problem is, if I reinstall Windows, all programs on the Windows partition will be erased. That included this program/toolbar. And I don't know where to get back it back...like where to download a new one for installation.
i have a kind of cable network system for watching tv.... i want to watch tv on my laptop ... Aspire 5520G .... it has tv out .. can anyone tell me what i have to do to watch tv channels on my laptop?
I've bought my Acer Aspire 5570 with T2450 Core Duo 2.0 CPU and Intel GMA950 Video 1.5 years ago and back then I wasn't into fiddling around with it, plus I also had warranty on it and didn't feel like voiding that.
But lately it has been pissing me off, because if I actually use it for anything other than browsing text-based web pages it gets hot. And if put under max load after 10minutes you run the risk of burning your hand if you touch the laptop underneath (75C according to RMClock Utility).
But now, since warranty is long over i decided to see what I can do to improve cooling. After spending a good amount of time looking for service manual I found one on ed2k network and set it download. Eager to get the things rolling I took it apart blindly (wasn't hard at all) and of course, right when I was done with the last screw the service manual finished downloading... *sigh* (To save you from the same fate I've uploaded the service manual at the end of this post.)
I have cleaned the heatsinks (there wasn't much hair, since i used to blow it out with compressed air occasionally), reapplied thermal paste and then I noticed that about 3/4 of air vent on the bottom of the laptop (where air gets sucked in for cooling) was blocked by a piece of removable plastic, whereas the fan was big enough to use the whole vent......................
i was able to connect the dell cause it had some round hole that i stuck a cable into and then my into T.V. My laptop(Aspire 6920g) doesn't have that hole(I think, didn't find it) , so anyways, how do I connect it to a T.V.?
I have a problem with my laptop, whenever i play a game it will froze on random. I know the computer is still running since the sound is still being heard but the screen is completely frozen. So i need to close the game and re-launch it again everytime this happens. The odd thing to me is it only happens to a certain game. But it doesn't occur to other games even games that requires higher specifications. The game i'm talking about is DotA 2, is there something on the DotA 2 engine that makes this occur?
How to get my Acer Aspire E15 laptop (E5-571P-55TL) touchpad working again? Ā It worked when I began using it in January and now does not, and I have been checking the FAQs and spent hours also looking for and downloading user guide info which did not work (maybe I did not EXTRACT it correctly). Ā The little mousepad or touchpad below the physical keyboard.Ā
I use Google Chrome, not Internet Explorer, by the way, and not the Microsoft Account login stuff, which is messing me up too, as first I had to create a password to login to my laptop, then apparently it wants me to create and use another password and login email, which apparently I did once after some problems with it,and now I cannot get it to let me login OR send me a forgotten password for Microsoft Account. Ā It wants to call me at a number whose last 2 digits displayed are not mine! Ā
I have aspire 5741zg and I wanted to add some ram blocks to it. Bought the same vendor one and same size, but when I added it, my latop started to reboot. Tried to remove old one and leave new one - same(reboot), tried with another vendor - same result. With only the old one - it works perfectly....
I have a acer aspire 5520 with the following problem: when I start him take fan rotate the battery light comes on, but also nothing. He continues then just restart and should I remove the battery to stop this.
I'm having an issue extending my display via an external monitor (Samsung 23inch). Iām using a 5750G with GT 540M and Intel HD 3000 that uses Nvidia Optimus technology. It's the i7 2360QM version. So it's a second gen HD 3000 I believe. Ā I can't seem to run 2 displays at once.. like if I connect an external monitor via the VGA or the HDMI.. I can use that monitor on it's own (while the laptop screen is disabled) just fine.. but the moment I try to duplicate displays or extend my desktop across two monitors.. the intel driver crashes... Ā The Intel driver keeps crashing and recovering every 2 seconds until the whole PC blue screens. (VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE - igdkmd64.sys)Ā This is when windows is trying to run both monitors at once. If I quickly press Win+P and set it to a single display, itās fine. Ā I can output to the external monitor (show desktop only on 2), via both VGA and HDMI and the laptop screen is off. This works fine, even at 1080p. Ā I can also output to the laptop screen only (show desktop only on 1), and the external monitor is off. Ā If I choose "duplicate", only the laptop screen works... But it drops down to a low res (1024x768)... However, in the Multiple Displays setting dropdown... āDuplicateā is no longer selected... and itās now set to āShow desktop only on 1ā. If I try change to duplicate againā¦ both monitors go blank. Ā If I try to extend these displays, the laptop screen stays on... the external monitor goes blank, and the laptop screen immediately starts to flick off and on... as the driver crashes and restarts. I see the little dialog box in the notification area saying āThe display driver has stopped responding and has recovered.ā While specifying the Intel driver. Ā So hereās what Iāve tried so far: Windows 8.1 fully updated, with the latest Intel Drivers and NVidia Drivers. Windows 7 x64 SP1 with latest Intel and NVidia drivers... as well as the old drivers that are listed on the Acer site. Each time I completely uninstalled and deleted the old drivers before installing new ones. Ā Iāve tried these Intel drivers: 8.15.10.2342 (Acer site) 8.15.10.2622 - 15.22.54.64.2622 9.17.10.3347 - 15.28.20.64.3347 9.17.10.3517 - 15.28.22.64.3517 (latest) Ā I updated the BIOS (1.21). I also went into the BIOS and changed the GPU setting from āSwitchableā to āIntegratedā which basically disabled the GT 540m, so windows doesn't even load the nvidia control panel etc.. Even with just the Intel graphics enabled... same issue. Ā Iāve tried adjusting power management settings to ensure that power is always at max. Ā I know itās not an issue with the external monitor or cables, as they all work fine when the laptop screen is not running... Also, I tested with a Samsung LCD TV with the same issue. The monitor and cables work fine with my PC and other Laptop. Ā So for some reason, the Intel driver does not want to let 2 screens display at once. And the way the Optimus technology works, I donāt think I can bypass the Intel GPU and use the NVidia one alone. Ā I tested Win 8.1 with all latest drivers.. and win 7 with a few combinations.. like both the older intel driver + old nvida driver (the ones listed on the Acer site for this laptop).. then I tried new nvidia + a few old intel drivers one at a time.. but the issue remains..
my computer produces this crackling noise and everything begins to slow down. it doesnt happens everytime but most of the time. like when im watching a video, the crackling noise would come and the video would slow down and the sound would go into a low slow motion sound ..
I've had my Acer Aspire 5520 for about 6 months now, and I did not get a warranty with it. Within the last month or so the fan has begun to get really loud. I have ways of quieting it down temporarily, hanging it off the table or propping it up, but even then the fan will burst into loud, annoying noises suddenly and for no apparent reason. It's kinda like a click-click-click noise, like when you put a strip of paper into a house fan (I know we all did this as a kid...) and the blades hit the paper as they go by, making really obnoxious noises...
So anyway, I'm just wondering if this is fixable, or if it isn't where I can find a replacement fan that works for my computer. I'm a software junky, and I don't really know enough about hardware, so when I went on Newegg and Frys websites I was unable to figure out what kind of fans would work for my laptop. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it, as I spend a lot of time in the library at my school and I don't want to disturb everyone else in the whole building. In fact, when ever I shop for laptops, keyboards are one of the first things I look at- if the keyboard is too loud or awkward I will NOT buy that laptop.
i have a acer aspire 5920, when ever the battery is taken out the q w a s z x esc tab cap lock shift ctrl fn 1 and 2 keys stops working. this is the third time it has happened and the first time i fixed it by a hard reset. the last time i don't know how i got it working, somthing stuffed up on start up and it came up with a error when bios was loading, it told me to press f2 but that key didn't work. after about ten resets it worked. but now i can't get the keys working.
when my girlfriend tries to switch on the above laptop it seems to boot up but there is just a blank, black screen. If you look very, very closely the desktop display seems to be there but we don't know how to change the colour/contrast etc. Is it as simple as that do you think or is the problem deeper. I've tried everything I can think of; I've thrown water over it, hit it with the cat and punched it. None seem to work.
I was using the laptop normally in the morning and shut it down. When I turned on the machine at night, it started till the login screen and it just shutdown suddenly. When I tried to turn it on,there is no sign of life,no led lights,no power button light. Nothing
