Acer Gateway NV59C :: Windows 7 - Unable To Restore Gateway Using Recovery Management Disks
Sep 24, 2014I have tried to restore laptop to oringal factory settings using Gateway Recovery Management disks purchased from Gateway. I have booted from System Disk (1 of 4) which ejected and instructed me to insert Recovery Disk 1 which loaded files (100%). Recovery Disk 1 ejected and instructed me to insert Recovery Disk 2 which also loaded files (100%). Then a "Restore Progress"window opened and and the process progressed to 79% and gave the following error messages: "WIMApplyImage fail. Error0x570" and "Fail to Restore Image".
Prior to attempting the Restore process, all I get when I start the Gateway NV59C laptop is the following screen:

Acer :: Memory Compatibility For EMachines E730?
Dec 12, 2014I purchased some more RAM (4GB stick) for an eMachines E730 laptop but it blue screens when this RAM is inserted. It has an existing 2GB Ram Stick, but leaving that in or taking that out yields the same result when I add the new RAM. It boots fine when the new RAM is not installed, so it is obviously not compatible.
It is running v1.19 BIOS, I could update to v1.23 if it is a way to fix this issue but the info on that version shows nothing about memory fix. I am always loathe to doing a BIOS Flash unless it is absolutely needed.
I have also tried to do an update via the software update utility but it is not loading anything.
Acer :: EMachines EMD620-5777 (basically A 4420)
Nov 12, 2008I recently bought a eMachines eMD620 from best buy for $299. I also have an Acer 4420-5239 with an onboard ATI x1250 which I got on clearance at Office Depot. The eMachines laptop looks almost exactly like the Acer 4420 except it uses a new low-power AMD processor called the 2650e (which I can't find much information on) and has the onboard ATI x1250.
My first question is: Does the emachines eMD620 use the same socket S1 motherboard as the acer 4420-5239? I put more ram in the eMachines laptop and looks like it is the same motherboard that uses the AMD S1 socket as the Acer 4420, except the heatsink is different.
Second question: Has anyone upgraded the processor on the eMachines eMD620 or taken it appart? I am going to upgrade the AMD TK-57 that came in the Acer 4420 with a TL-66 or a TL-64 because they are dirt cheap on ebay these days. I then want to put the AMD TK-57 in the EMachines eMD620.
Third question: The press release I see for the AMD 2650e shows that another low-power dual core processor called the 3250e is also available, but I can't find anyone selling it anywhere. Does anyone have one or know a place to get one? Are they both socket S1?
Last Question: Has anyone installed an internal Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive in the Acer 4420? Are the AMD processor and ATI video card enough to handle playback? The HD-DVD laptop drives are also pretty cheap on ebay and I was hoping to experiment a little. I have heard conflicting statements about system requirements depending on the playback software used.

Aug 27, 2007It was announced this morning that Acer will be acquiring Gateway for $710 million in cash. The newly formed "multi-branded" company (the Gateway name will stay in the US) will be formed by December 2007 (provided they pass the usual regulatory scrutiny) and has been unanimously approved by the boards of both companies.
So what does this mean for us? The buyers?
According to the press release, prices will end up lower across the board because they will be able to leverage the best of each company to lower costs. That's something that we always like to hear.

Aug 6, 2007On the Gateway, it's a T2450 (2.0ghz) while the Acer has a T5550 (1.66ghz). I don't know which one is better, but I'm thinking the Gateway would be better (but bigger isn't always necessarily better?)
I was also wondering which one has better tech support and warranty also? This will be my first laptop and I hope it will last me for a long time. I guess I'm looking for a better bang for the buck.

Feb 16, 2010Today i went to a computer store to check the 2 above mentioned laptops.
1. Gateway EC1815u

Both are identical in screen size, weight, features... The only difference is that the Gateway has 500gb Hdd whereas the Acer Timeline has 320gb.
So i was deciding to buy the Gateway however on close inspection of both the laptops side by side i found that the Acer Lcd was slightly brighter and more crisper than the Gateway Lcd.
At this point in time i searched the internet but could not find any reviews for the gateway laptop though there are quite a few for the Acer Timeline which all praise the Acer's Lcd Screen Quality.
Now i'm totally confused as to which one to buy...? I was more keen on the EC1815u since it has 500gb hdd compared to 1810T which only has a 320gb hdd but i found the 1810t screen quality to be better than EC1815u...!
1. Has anyone compared both these laptops screen..? I was told that Acer owns Gateway and that the EC1815u is the exact copy of 1810T then how come the screen quality of both the Laptops is different...?

Anyways, two quick questions:
1) Are there any BIOS updates available? Acer shows a bunch but Gateway's site doesn't list any.
2) Can I delete the first OEM reserved partition? I'd like to install Windows 7 from scratch because I don't need all the bloatware that Gateway installed
Acer Gateway NE71B :: Cannot Update BIOS - Some Settings Don't Save After Changed
Dec 25, 2014I have a Gateway NE71B a friend gave me and it has Windows 8 installed. I had to do some repair to it after a drink was spilled into it but I cleaned it out and its been fine, sorta...
Resuming from sleep doesn't work. It is just black. I have to shutit down and that works fine. It appears that a BIOS upgrade is needed and I downloaded the latest BIOS and tried to update it. It uses some 'InsideH2O' update app. Well it goes to reboot and when it tries to apply the BIOS, it keeps saying that it is an invalid firmware image. I've verifiedd that this is the correct BIOS file. I tried other BIOS versions and none will apply, always getting the error. I've researched the utility, extracted the config and BIOS. I'm tempted to tell it to write without verify (its that fustrating).
One option, that seems to saved most people is to disable Secure Boot. No matter what, I cannot do this. It never saves. I followed the official steps of powering off, then power on, set the admin password, disable Secure Boot, save and exit. Secure Boot always stays enabled. I've tried probably 30 times, 10 different ways and it just won't stick. I also noticed that I cannot change other settings in the BIOS. I can set some to a different value but they always revert back. I cannot get the function keys setting to stay on Function Keys. It always defaults back to Special Keys after reboot. Same thing goes with enabling F12 for boot menu.
I've tried removing the coin battery, which has a charge, shorting out the contacts holding it for about a minute, removed power battery and power cable, letting it sit but still no good. I've also tried removing the hard drive. Where is the BIOS data being stored and can it be wiped?
I've been considering getting an Acer laptop but this is starting to steer me away. Definately not getting a Gateway.
Acer Aspire V7-482PG-9984 :: Default Gateway Reset - Intel 7260 Wireless Card
Sep 29, 2014I am going to chronicle my experience with this issue. I have an Acer V7-482PG-9884 with an Intel 7260 AC wireless card running Windows 8.1 which was upgraded from Windows 8. Every 20-30 minutes, and sometimes more frequently, the internet connection drops while still connected to Wifi. Upon running the auto fix within internet explorer, Microsoft identifies the issue as a "The Defaul Gateway is Not Available." The internet connection is reset, and everything works fine for another 15-30 minutes whereby the issue repeats.
I've tried everything, switching to a different Intel Card 6205, using each and every driver available from Intel, nothing seems to properly remedy the issue. This includes playing with the power settings, turning off and on bluetooth, etc.
This is a known and widespread issue with Acer, Intel, and Microsoft.

Dell Inspiron N5050 :: Cannot Ping Gateway / Cannot HTTP To Router IP
Nov 25, 2012My friend has a brand new Dell Inspiron N5050 that's having issues connecting to their Comcast Arris TG862G/CT router. The OS (Windows 7) 'see's' the WiFi network and when we try connecting to the WiFi network it prompts for the password - all as expected. But once its 'connected', although it has an IP the system cannot route anywhere. I cannot ping the gateway (the router), cannot perform nslookups, cannot HTTP to the router's IP etc.
WiFi for sure has been enabled via FN+F2 combination - tried toggling WiFi on & off - no change..Checked for updated drivers on the Dell website; re-downloaded the driver package from Dell - no change.Updated BIOS from A04 to A05 - no chnge..Checked for Windows updates system was already fully updated & patched - no change.I can successfully connect to my phone's WiFi HotSpot - device routes just fine.Other machines & devices can connect to the WiFi network without issue - seems unique to this N5050 machine.Ethernet connections on this N5050 work just fine
I'm not sure what else to do other than trying to revert to an older driver or checking the Intel site for drivers for the WiFi NIC. Comast say its a Windows update that broke it

Lenovo U/S Series :: U430 Touch - Limited Wireless Out Of The Box - Default Gateway Is Not Available
Dec 9, 2013I just got a new Lenovo U430 touch. Major problem: I only get limited wireless. I should note that it hasn't connected wirelessly once. It does connect fine via LAN ( I kept the cables!). I tried calling Lenovo but they said it must be my router and I should contact my internet provider (which I don't understand since the internet provider has nothing to do with the router.)
The laptop does connect wireless for about 5 seconds (I once managed to open an email before the connection slipped). Then it shows the yellow exclamation point in front of the wireless icon on the right-bottom screen. If I troubleshoot, it fixes the default gateway. Repeat. Sometimes it says that the "default gateway is not available."
Things I have tried per other similar questions asked online: unistalled McAfee, including with the removal toolpower cylcing my router, laptop, and cable modemuninstalling the wireless driver and restarting the laptop Some notes: the system came with Windows 8.1I have two other devices wirelessly connected to the same router with no problem. I'm sitting about 8 feet from the router.the only programs I've downloaded are Firefox and then finally Kaspersky (since I uninstalled McAfee) I'm pretty good with computers, but this seems beyond me. It's a new laptop and it should work, darn it!

Feb 3, 2014I have a Compaq Presario CQ61-313us notebook, and i've just installed windows 8.1, then i realized there was a problem with my Internet, every time i open a website, i always get either a page like this: [URL] ... , or i get "Error: Gateway Timeout", though i can get to the website if i refresh a few times, but it's extremely slow.
Also, i can't download anything, I've been trying to download the .NET Framework 3.5 through Windows Features and windows Update, but in vain. I think that proves that the problem isn't from IE. I also think that it's the wireless driver's fault, but i'm not sure, and i don't know what driver to download. I tried updating it from the properties meny, but it says it's up to date. My wireless adaptor is Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 802.11b|g|n, V3.0.1.155.
Update: I think it's worth noting that when i download with utorrent, it downloads normally with my regular download speed, but other than that, i can't download anything.
Acer :: Anyone Else Getting The Run-around From Support
Oct 29, 2009I would just like to share my recent experience with Acer support and was wondering if others have the same experience.
When I bought my Acer 8930 with Vista installed I was very happy. Started to install and change everything to my liking. I played the HD disk that came with it and all was ok. 2 Days later the same disk would not play anymore. Ok no problem I had other things to do.
I was also transferring files between the Acer (Intel wifi card build in) and was getting speeds of 2.1MB/s. My IMac on the same network was showing 4-6MB/s. So, I installed a netrgear USB 300 adapter on the Acer (using an external drive, because the Acer drive was still not working) and I got indeed the speeds of 4-6MB/s.
So I contacted Acer support. Their reply: " please contact the manufacturer of the network card...." Oh wow, can you imagine if the light of your car does not work. Do you bring your car to the dealer or to Philips?
A few days later I installed Windows 7 64bit after installing all I contacted Acer again. This time about the drive. Their reply:" Please reinstall Vista, in order to do a better analysis, because the laptop was sold with Vista and not Windows 7."
Both replies are absolute Bull**** (excuse my French). I gave them my opinion and will wait until Monday to get a reply. If it is still a reply in the same trend as previous I will ship the laptop back with the friendly request to repair it.
Is this normal for a company such as Acer?

Aug 9, 2008Acer Extensa notebooks usually come with SATA drives. However, my impression is that models with Intel Core 2 Duo CPU's have built-in SATA/AHCI support in Vista, while AMD Athlon 64 X2 models do not:
- Device Manager shows the drive and controller as IDE/ATA, not SATA, even when the drive is SATA;
- there is no option in BIOS (even latest version) for switching from ATA compatibility to SATA/AHCI
It looks like AMD does not support SATA/AHCI, while AMD does not.

Oct 18, 2008SetFSB now supports the PLL ICS954310BGLF.
Now CPUCool also supported this PLL, but the software was a bit buggy and refused to work in Vista x64.
But SetFSB works like a charm.
So, basically, the Acer Aspire 3680; Aspire 5570/Z; Aspire 5580; Travelmate 2480, and a couple of more notebooks can be overclocked easily. Also, notebooks that have this PLL, can be OCed.
Weird, I was able to go upto 200MHz with a Celeron M 420 and DDR2-800 RAM, but I can't go above 170MHz for some reason now, with the T5200 and generic Hynix DDR2-667.
Anyway, I still got a 25% OC. Will get Corsair/Crucial DDR2-800, and try and achieve a 50% OC. Temps are under control atm.

Now I am able to submit USSD codes and to abuse my 1810TZ as a phone

This could be simply accomplished by editing some configuration files. So notepad.exe is the "hacking tool" of choice
Make sure, you back up these files before editing them. Also, some files are write protected, so you need to change this before the modification. It is recommended to re-apply the write protected flag when you're done.

Aug 1, 2009I'm thinking of buying an Acer Aspire AS5535-5452, but now I'm having second thoughts because I just checked their support offerings -- am I correct that they don't have telephone support? I agree that most phone support is not very good, but I've been helped before by other laptop makers when I had quick, relatively simple questions.
How can Acer not offer phone support and be competitive. People expect phone support for computers.
That aside, what do you think of the Acer Aspire AS5535-5452 for $450 ??

First of all: Is it generally possible to do this? I tried to install it in the recovery mode but there was an error (something with the GPT Partition) so I switched the Mode to UEFI. I have read in other message boards that I have to switch to UEFI csm (compatibility support mode) but I can't find it.
