Acer :: My Fan Seems To Be Contacting Something Within The Case
Apr 26, 2009
Sometimes when I startup or resume from standby I will get this horrible grinding type of sound from my fan. Someone told me that the fan in the AAO contacts part of the housing and causes this noise, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I really don't want to open up my baby, but it will leave me no choice if this is a real problem (unless I can send it to Acer).
Also on a side note, AA1 Fan Control has been reading a constant 85C even though my CPU is only about 44C (according to HWMonitor). Is there a newer version of AA1 Fan Control out, or perhaps a better program? Thanks.
Fixed the AAO Fan Control. I just had to reinstall that port driver.

I'd like to contact Apple on the mac mini with Snow Leopard Server to get some more information on it but I can't seem to find an email address that I can direct my concerns about the product to.
Does anyone have an email contact they may respond to or is the only way of reaching them going to be by phone?

I have been relentlessly trying to contact my case manager in reference to my SXPS replacement, and have not had any luck.
How can I get in direct contact with my case manager?
Is their a special number? Tech Support is uselsss, and no one at Dell seems to know how or who is in charge of my case.

I'm a proud new owner of a MBP 13-inch. couple of matters.
(1) A good skin/sleeve/cover/case to protect it on the go. Ideally I'd like a very lightweight and elegant skin or shell that's on all the time to protect the exterior from wear and tear, without trapping too much heat.
(2) I need a sleek padded case to carry the unit and typical accessories (charger, adapters, mouse) and other small items.
(3) I'm looking for a convenient laptop stand for my desk to set the MBP alongside an external monitor.

I decided to give the PLL mod a try so I can overclock to 1.7GHz in my 1410. I got ahold of a soldering iron and an old motherboard that I practiced on, and it doesn't seem too bad once you get the hang of it.
Now that I've decided to go ahead, I try to take the case of my Aspire 1410 apart, and with all the screws removed, hard drive, memory, wireless card, I can pry the front of the case open ok, but as I get near the back (fan exhaust one side and lock/ethernet other) It seems locked in place somehow and don't want to break anything.
Is there a guide or service manual or something?

I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 8730 with an 18.4" screen. Any idea where I can find a case for this monster? I have spend hours on the internet as well as visiting all of the local stores (Comp USA, Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, etc) and can't find one big enough!

I'm working on an Extensa 5420 that has a broken plastic tab that holds the power jack in the lower case. Anyone had any luck with glue/epoxy (or some other techique) to secure the power jack in position so it won't fall inside the case?

I have ordered an Acer Gemstone Blue 6920g which is due to be delivered next week sometime.
I was wondering if anyone else already owns one of the gemstone blue laptops and has tried a laptop bag or case out for it.
The gemstone blue laptops come in a 16 inch and 18.4 inch screen size and have an aspect ratio of 16:9 instead of 16:10.

The build quality on my Studio 1535 is really, astonishingly poor. All cheap plastic and case creaks and noises. Very flimsy, even for a budget laptop.
My question is this- Would it be possible to purchase another case- a better case, perhaps and XPS or something similar,
and move the internals from the Studio to the new case? Or would that just be a logistcal nightmare not even worth attempting?

Has anyone here done an XPS m1530 case mod? I'd like to take off the front panel of my 1530 and do a custom paint job on it, but from the few sites where I've seen instructions for disassembling the 1530 it seems like a huge hassle.
If I weren't using spray paint, I suppose I wouldn't need to take it apart. But I'm new to case modding, and I haven't seen any mods done with anything other than spray paint.

I use to own one with my XPS M1530 too..
I didnt think the Studio XPS 16 would fit but its an actual PERFECT fit.
it's the best case on the market in my opinion. And it retails for $99.00 but I got it through amazon for $55.00 brand new. It's awesome!

Whats your opinion on the case design? Im looking to purchase and looking at the case it looks kind of frimpy and ugly, and that ripple effect on the outside seems very cheesy!
But i've been fooled many times by pictures online vs. the look of something in person.
By contrast, the 6400 series look like they have beautifully elegant case designs with aluminum look to them.

I removed a label from the palm rest of my M6400. Unfourtunately it left behind a sticky residue. In my defense it was the "regulatory information is under the battery" sticker and I am pretty sure it is supposed to be easy to remove.

Got them off a seller on ebay for about $1.50 each $2.50 total combined postage. The 2 Vista and 1 Firefox ones on the left side were ones the seller threw in for free.
The four I ordered, Graphics by Nvidia, Nvidia - The Way Its Meant To Be Played, Intel Core 2 Duo and G.Skill Ram. The Nvidia and Intel ones were Offical badges, the G.Skill one was a custom design by the seller but looks equally professional.
Thought the palmrest looked very bare.
Decided to place them vertically with the originals. I do realise theres 2 Intel ones but I didnt want anybody thinking I only had an old Core 1 .

Do I put it down in the case battery side so the wieight of the laptop is on the battery or on the front side where the buttons are?
Dont want to break it.

i'm planning on buying the new Z when its available and i decided if i'm spending that much money on a laptop i'm going to need a heavy duty case to carry it in. So the case i was thinking about carrying it in is a Pelican 1090cc or the Pelican 1080CC if the Z could fit. I just had a few questions, will the Z and the adapter fit or just the Z? and also will this case because it is padded, add to much pressure on the screen causing it to leave permanent marks for the keyboard or palm rest?
Website:

[url]
[url] Without the computer lining, has the pick and pluck foam (i choose what squares to take out to fit my laptop)
Round up:
1. Will the Z fit in the 1080cc?
2. Will the Z fit in the 1090CC?
3. Will the adapter fit in either or both?
4. Computer lining or Pick and pluck foam?
5. Will the pressure from the padding cause enough force for the screen to be permanently marked?

My case manager messed up the order on my SECOND 'replacement' notebook. She promised me upgrades across the board and messed up the order again, and forgot the screen res., fingerprint reader, extra battery, etc. So, now HP calls me and tells me that she was promoted and gave me a new case manager, Elric, who tells me there is nothing he can do and I can take it or leave it. Apparently he is one of 3 "executive" case managers and he says he is the top of the food chain.
Is there anyone else I can call to rectify this situation? Does anyone have a corporate # or something?
This has been a 6 week ordeal for me. Originally, I ordered a POS spec'd dv5t, but it came with a blown out speaker. So after hours with customer service, they gave me a case manager, Angelia, who promised me the world with upgrades and free accessories. Well, the replacement notebook she sent contained none of these upgrades. So i called her back and she said she would order a new replacement, but at that point they stopped customizing dv5t's, so she said she would order a dv7t for me. Well, she FINALLY got around to it, like 3 weeks later after having to call her constantly. We discussed the specs and I even sent her a screenshot of what I wanted so she wouldnt mess it up again. So what happens? She orders it with WXGA+ instead of WSXGA, no extra battery, no fingerprint reader, no hard drive upgrade, no tv tuner.. but she throws in a blu ray drive which i didnt even want! wow, seems like she wasnt even paying attention AGAIN. But now I cant even speak with her, as I'm sure she would some rectify this for me, as she was very cool. But this Elric guy is a complete bag.
