I didn't use my laptop over Christmas as I was away. It was left plugged into the mains but powered down.
Â
The first time I booted it after my return the fan suddenly started up when the Starting Windows message appeared. It then remained at near maximum speed long after everything had loaded. This has never happened before.
Â
I have managed to workaround this by pressing Fn + F4 which places the laptop in sleep mode. After several seconds the fan powers down.
Â
If I then press a key to wake the laptop up everything is fine and the fan doesn't run at high speed. I can hear it gently running in the background.
Â
For the remainder of that session the fan behaves itself. But when I start the laptop up from cold the whole process starts again and I have to repeat the actions to turn it off.
Â
I'm mystified why it's doing this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acer ePower Management v6.0 via the eRecovery Management utility but it has made no difference.
Â
I've also checked the BIOS (F2 at bootup) and can see nothing there that influences the fan speed.
My computer (acer P653-V) is starting itself after shutting it down. Not right away - it takes some random time - sometime hours. In BIOS WAKE ON LAN is disabled. OS is windows 7 and at network adapter configuration - wake on magic packet and all of that is disabled. Â Don't understand how is it possible? It is getting little bit creepy and disruptive already.
Have a AS5610 and recently it is dog slow on bootup (8 Mins until the computer is usable). Have removed hard drive and scanned it with several malware scanners, tested the hard drive for physical problems as well as running memtest on the memory. None showed any problems.
Have run msconfig and disabled everything and that allowed a usual computer after 4 mins.
I ran a shareware util called BootLog XP and it appears to indicate that LVPRICINJ.DLL is running for 509 secs of a normal bootup. This is the logitech video camera driver. I was thinking of uninstalling the Orbitcam software and drivers but can not find the current drivers on the Acer (N America) site.
When turned on it goes past the Acer logo screen then a blinking cursor shows at top left of a black screen & what I can only describe as either a very loud continuous beep or audible alarm sounds for up to 3/4 mins then the pc will continue to boot into Vista & work normally.
I've run utilities like HDtune to check the hard disk - it says its fine, I'm going to run memtest for the memory, I've read about the phoenix bios codes but it doesn;t sound like any of the sequences.
The fan of my computer has started to make a lot of noise as of yesterday. It's alright the first 5 minutes after start-up but then it goes crazy as long as the fan is running fast. The core temperature is around 47 C on both cores so it's not even that hot and I recently open it up to check if it was dust covering the fan but it was fine (I blew away as much dust as I could but there was really nothing on it).  Here's a video of how the noise sounds : [URL] .........
In the end of the video you can hear the sound at the fan intake   Computer specifications Acer Aspire v3-571G Intel Core i5-3230M 2.6GHZ Windows 8 Bios v. 2.21 Bought August 2013   What should I do? Replace the fan? Is it dangerous to run the computer when the fan is making this noise?  My computer has become pretty slow latetly and therefore the fan is running fast more often, maybe it works to make a factory reset?
I bought this laptop about a month ago from PC World. I hadn't had any problems with it and thought that I had made a great choice. Now, all of a sudden the fan makes a loud and very annoying noise (similar to that of a drill) for about 2 minutes and the stops. This happens when I turn it on and off too. Nothing I do seems to make any difference and it is happening more regularly now than three hours ago when it started.
I have a new Aspire 5630 with vista installed. The disk drive is very high speed and whistles loudly when installing applications from dvd. I expect this and it is not a problem The trouble is that when i try to play a music DVD the same sound completely swamps the music and so DVD playback is a NO NO.
On my desktop PC I had a similar problem and had to install Nero Drivespeed which allows me to set playback speed to "silent"
This does not seem to work on vista ( neither does any other program that i have tried.)
Surely this must be a problem to a lot of people and I would assume that there would be a setting in the bundled DVD playback software to solve this problem. Or perhaps there is?
Bought a Acer Switch 10 new with Windows 8.1....after 5-6 days has to take into Acer service in Moscow after 'No bootable hardware detected' appeared.....now 3 weeks on have a blue screen and 'BAD SYSTEM CONFIG' AND nothing else!!!!!!!!!.....
when I try to record from the Microphone, there is a loud hum and crackling noise in the recording. I can barely hear myself talk.
I recently discovered that if I turn my Screen off by pressing Fn+F6, the background noise immediately goes away. But this is impractical when using the Camera.
And please no, "built in mics are cheap buy a external one comments"
When I turn on the laptop, it says something about checking some files (the first is NSTF files, and the second is OS files) and that it recommend that I do it but it would let me skip it also.
I would do both, skip and let it continue, but both would end up having a blank screen afterward. It was working fine before ....
I started my studio this morning and went away to do other things while it's booting... then I heard "scream" from my room and it took me a second to realize that it's from this brand new machine! Even my 3 years old laptop that has a really low level celeron processor and very little memory and is slow as hell has never done this in the past 3 years! So I ran in my room and checked what's going on. The scream already stopped but there's this blue screen asking me if I wanted to continue to boot to windows or do memory diagnosis So I hit the memory diagnosis and it took the thing forever to finish it. Then it went on to boot windows with a memory diagnosis report saying no error in memory was detected. Ok. That overall was kinda scary, especially considering I've only owned this thing for less than 5 days. :S I tried to think about what I did last night that may cause this... but I did normal surfing and video streaming and... then I downloaded firefox and installed the adobe flash player and I deleted a couple useless application that came with MSN. That's it.
So here's my question:
1. Has anyone else had this happened...?
2. Does this sound more like a software problem or hardware problem? Software problem, I can handle. Hardware problem, then it's a real problem.
I'm having this problem at the moment where *sometimes* the screen does not come on during bootup. "The lights are on, yet no-one is home".
If I'm lucky I will see the Dell splash screen and then it goes black but most of the time I get nothing. Strange thing is that the lights are on for the buttons (volume, play, etc) but the screen is not.
I know its not a Windows problem, because I can here the Windows startup sound being played. Its almost like the signal to turn the screen on is not working.
ive just re-installed vista home premium on my acer travelmate 5320 but now the led for the wireless is reversed, so when the wifi is on the led is off and vice versa does anyone have any ideas whatsoever as i am at a loss with this one.
I have several of these machines (Windows XP SP3) all doing the same thing, will hang at the Windows XP screen. When the user is finally able to log in, maybe after 5 or 6 attempts they will have no network connection.
I have the latest BIOS and network card drivers loaded.
I have just been given a TravelMate 530 2.2 cpu Lappy
Fine for all I need but I would love to upgrade the memory. I see it says it can only go up to 1 gig and that it has 256 as standard.
I see there is a slot under a cover on the back, but only 1 slot (Unless I'm not looking properly)
Can I just stick a 1 gig unit in this slot and all will be fine or is there some unusual method to upgrading the memory. Hope it's nothing like the old Dells
I just got the DV3 from Costco and was wondering if my new machine has a problem. The Fan is just so noisly compared to my macbook pro. The fan keeps going high and low by itself.
I downloaded the speedfan to see my tempearture. The result is.....78 degrees C without doing anything intensive. Is there a problem or is this just how HP laptops work?

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop. When i switch it on, there is no display and get I 3 beeps. The only led that is on is the one indicating that the power is on. The memory sticks are in a working condition (I checked it by inserting it in another laptop).
I can't to find "HP Ereplogo Utility" or similar SW to remove logo from Zbook 15. I'm found only old version which is not support officially latest notebooks.

I want to upgrade the HDD of my TravelMate 2490 notebook but I can't find anything on ebay. Can I used other model's HDD as a replacement? What are the other models that are compatible with TravelMate 2490?
I was given an Acer TravelMate 2300 by someone who has a new one. It came with no guarantees and no recovery CD. It had working verison of XP Pro on it through SP2. I applied SP3 and several updates. It worked good until... I noticed that the C drive was formatted FAT32. So I thought it a good idea to move it to NTFS. Without checking, I fired in "convert c: /fs:ntfs". It rebooted and after a brief look at the Windows XP splash, it goes straight to a stop code x0000024 BSOD. There was nothing on the drive except for the OS so I was felt OK withjust reinstalling from my media.
I dragged out my copy of XP pro slipstreamed with SP2. Booted from CD, went through XP's native setup and detected an "unknown" partition where C used to be. I must've really slammed it. I chose to install to the unknown partition and XP offered to format it NTFS. I chose the thorough format option but it goes only to 24% and stops. The display still shows the progress bar, blue background etc. at 24%.
Since I don't have much experience with laptops, let me ask, is it possible that this laptop/drive ONLY formats to FAT or FAT32 and won't take an NTFS volume? If it will, are there any ideas out there how to apply and NTFS format so I can get this cute little laptop back to a usable state?
i got myself a new Acer Travelbook 5320, i get a win xp image, i burn it to a disc, i put it in, setup loads, i hit enter and he says the setup hasn't found a HD? it says it comes with feakin 160gb of HD memo!
The problem: Every time I restart, the network card is disabled by default. On very few occasions, the network card disables itself when surfing the internet.
I tried: Disabling other network cards Going to Device Manager, NIC, Untick "Allow the computer to turn off..." Scan for malware/viruses using AVG 8.0
