HP/Compaq :: DV2500no Display Or HD Bootup
Feb 4, 2010
I have a 13 month old HP Pavillion DV2500 Laptop and suddenly it doesn’t display anything on the screen (stays black).
I have noticed that the hard drive light comes on when its powered up but it goes out shortly afterwards and doesn’t flicker whilst its powering up.
I also connected it to a externla monitor and it still doesn't work.
Do I need a replacememtn mobo? Is it possible to buy one?

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop. When i switch it on, there is no display and get I 3 beeps. The only led that is on is the one indicating that the power is on. The memory sticks are in a working condition (I checked it by inserting it in another laptop).

When I turn on the laptop, it says something about checking some files (the first is NSTF files, and the second is OS files) and that it recommend that I do it but it would let me skip it also.
I would do both, skip and let it continue, but both would end up having a blank screen afterward. It was working fine before ....

I started my studio this morning and went away to do other things while it's booting... then I heard "scream" from my room and it took me a second to realize that it's from this brand new machine! Even my 3 years old laptop that has a really low level celeron processor and very little memory and is slow as hell has never done this in the past 3 years! So I ran in my room and checked what's going on. The scream already stopped but there's this blue screen asking me if I wanted to continue to boot to windows or do memory diagnosis So I hit the memory diagnosis and it took the thing forever to finish it. Then it went on to boot windows with a memory diagnosis report saying no error in memory was detected. Ok. That overall was kinda scary, especially considering I've only owned this thing for less than 5 days. :S I tried to think about what I did last night that may cause this... but I did normal surfing and video streaming and... then I downloaded firefox and installed the adobe flash player and I deleted a couple useless application that came with MSN. That's it.
So here's my question:
1. Has anyone else had this happened...?
2. Does this sound more like a software problem or hardware problem? Software problem, I can handle. Hardware problem, then it's a real problem.

I'm having this problem at the moment where *sometimes* the screen does not come on during bootup. "The lights are on, yet no-one is home".
If I'm lucky I will see the Dell splash screen and then it goes black but most of the time I get nothing. Strange thing is that the lights are on for the buttons (volume, play, etc) but the screen is not.
I know its not a Windows problem, because I can here the Windows startup sound being played. Its almost like the signal to turn the screen on is not working.

I have several of these machines (Windows XP SP3) all doing the same thing, will hang at the Windows XP screen. When the user is finally able to log in, maybe after 5 or 6 attempts they will have no network connection.
I have the latest BIOS and network card drivers loaded.

I didn't use my laptop over Christmas as I was away. It was left plugged into the mains but powered down.
Â
The first time I booted it after my return the fan suddenly started up when the Starting Windows message appeared. It then remained at near maximum speed long after everything had loaded. This has never happened before.
Â
I have managed to workaround this by pressing Fn + F4 which places the laptop in sleep mode. After several seconds the fan powers down.
Â
If I then press a key to wake the laptop up everything is fine and the fan doesn't run at high speed. I can hear it gently running in the background.
Â
For the remainder of that session the fan behaves itself. But when I start the laptop up from cold the whole process starts again and I have to repeat the actions to turn it off.
Â
I'm mystified why it's doing this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acer ePower Management v6.0 via the eRecovery Management utility but it has made no difference.
Â
I've also checked the BIOS (F2 at bootup) and can see nothing there that influences the fan speed.

I have an M90 and it was good for the first two years and about 7 months ago it started to heat even when I wasn't playing games.
A lot of times it would shut off by itself. I now realize that it might be the dust bunnies that needed cleaning.
Thank you dell for pointing that out(sarcasm).... Now my lappy will only show the windows sign on bootup and go black after that.
Is my motherboard out also or just my graphics card? I'm hoping that I can put in a 7900gs after seeing the prices for a fx2500m .....

Have a AS5610 and recently it is dog slow on bootup (8 Mins until the computer is usable). Have removed hard drive and scanned it with several malware scanners, tested the hard drive for physical problems as well as running memtest on the memory. None showed any problems.
Have run msconfig and disabled everything and that allowed a usual computer after 4 mins.
I ran a shareware util called BootLog XP and it appears to indicate that LVPRICINJ.DLL is running for 509 secs of a normal bootup. This is the logitech video camera driver. I was thinking of uninstalling the Orbitcam software and drivers but can not find the current drivers on the Acer (N America) site.

extensa 7220 laptop.
When turned on it goes past the Acer logo screen then a blinking cursor shows at top left of a black screen & what I can only describe as either a very loud continuous beep or audible alarm sounds for up to 3/4 mins then the pc will continue to boot into Vista & work normally.
I've run utilities like HDtune to check the hard disk - it says its fine, I'm going to run memtest for the memory, I've read about the phoenix bios codes but it doesn;t sound like any of the sequences.
Lappy is 1yr old in three days time :-(

My dell laptop (M501R) suffered a Blue Screen and wouldn't reload windows. Eventually, I just re-installed windows (re-formatting the hard drive) but everything was running slowly after about a minute or two of running windows. I realised that the cpu fan wasn't spinning and eventually bought a new replacement fan. I changed the fan over but I still have the same problem.
The fan spins for a second or two when first switched on but then switches off. I updated the bios and as soon as the bios program began updating the bios, the fan kicked in at full speed until the bios was finished updating and then switched off again.
I've ran the Dell diagnostics program and the only faults picked up are related to the hard drive, something to do with SMART.

I didn't realize that my motherboard was bad from the factory. Â From the very first day I was unable to do a full factory restore. Â I would always have to send it in to HP. Â I was sent a motherboard and after installing it I was able to do a full factory restore. Â It was amazing... However, I now have this error message on bootup. Â What exactly does this mean?
Â
When I go into the BIOS, All the information about the system is xxxxxxx. When I go into HP support assistance. The product name, serial number, and product number is  yyyyyyyy.  I know this is wrong, why?

I am having some flickering, and glitches in the display, and it seems, that it depends on the lcd position. It starts after I open the display, or sometimes after the laptop has been in use for a long time. It happened before, and the hp service replaced the lcd, saying that was a faulty one, but now, with the new one, is starting again. Is a bad replacement? I have to worry for the videocard? or motherboard? I spent 350uss on the new lcd, and I really hope is the replacement.

I've created a MSDOS boot disk on a USB thumb drive for a legacy application. After selecting F12 and booting from the USB thumb drive, the bootup stops or freezes. I'll power off the machine, boot back into windows, and try to read the USB drive. One of two things happen,
A. the drive is corrupted with gobbeldy characters or won recognize at all, or
B. files will be deleted, autoexec.bat, config.sys, command.com
There is no rhyme or reason, I've replicated this 20 times and got different results. I've used 5 different drives, two of which are brand new. Sometimes the laptop will freeze with a solid loud beep. I just was able to find an identical 3700 to test, and the same things are happening.
I've been able to boot this on over 20 different laptops, all core 2 duos, but moving to the core i3 on this 3700, this happens. Unfortunately I have no other newer machine to test this on, although it booted from a 3 month old compaq with an AMD chipset.
I've disabled/enabled the execution bit in bios, other than that what's causing this, I've never seen a BIOS do anything like this before.

I have Inspiron 9300. Unfortunately, my geforce 6800 died and I bought as a replacement x300 which was installed by a laptop repair service (they fixed other thins too.
It was due to power surge). Everything works but when I boot up the computer or when the display is set to be turned off in the power settings in Windows instead of being actually turned off the display is on and is all white.
Also brightness regulation does not work via Fn +arrows keys and is set to maximum and the white color is so intense that I get a headache after a couple of hours staring at the screen.

It's been awhile but this HP Pavillion is giving Me a problem and I'm looking for suggestions. My Backlight I believe is not comeing on all the time. My machine boots up fine and the screen will stay black most of the time but sometimes will light up and display. Sometimes tapping the closed lid button will light the screen and sometimes not but it will always at least make it flicker. What will make the screen light up and work every time is if I twist the screen at the top and push the close lid button and release.
The screen will work fine every time this way till the machine is shut down and rebooted.
Then you need to do this trick again for the screen to come on. I believe it is the inverter or back light or connections on the light but am not positive which. Anybody have an idea which it is or a good way to test which it is? I already have the machine opened an have access to the inverter but would like to be more sure before I go after the light.

Last week out of nowhere i noticed some banding on my display. It would be really bad all of a sudden for a few seconds and then disappear for a few mins. It had not been dropped or mishandled at all. 2 days later the display completely went black (but the backlight was still on). I have been doing research about what the problem is and have read alot about how HP had a bunch of notebooks with bad motherboards and GPU's that had to be replaced. My computer still works fine - just with no display. When hooked up to an external display it work no problem. And the original display will flash on occasionally as well.
My question is:
Do I have the same problem as mentioned above with the bad motherboard?
Or is it just a display problem (that can hopefully be fixed with a quick display replacement?

Today when I wanted to turn on the laptop, the screen was RED. I tried couple of times again, with connected to the power AC and without, but it starts Windows and everything is working, but my screen is still RED. I connected the laptop to an external monitor to check if the graphic card is causing the problem, but no, the picture was perfect. So I'm guessing it is something with inverters or the hole LCD. Do you have any ideas? And is is possible to buy spare parts from HP (I live in Germany)?
It is a HP NX7400 with WXGA (1280x800) Display.

it had a mess display (Attached below 1st picture)and crashed with blue screen. It seems like "nvlddkmm.sys error". If it restart in safe mode, it can work well for hours.429.jpg
But now, a worse situation is the screen divided 6 parts. The notebook totally can not be used. Please see the foloowing pictures.
I think it also caused by the Nvidia display chip G8400M GS.
But my notebook is out of warrenty.

I am extremely disappointed these days bcoz of the way things are turning out for my HP 530 Laptop. And all these issues are happening merely bcoz of the fraud people in Mumbai, India whom I had given my laptop to for either LCD Screen replacement or By paying the money and changing the LCD screen. The computer market of Mumbai is highly equipped with people of dishonesty and fraud minded attitude and even if one pays money to them, they are still bound to cheat you! All are simply crooks and keep thinking of ways to cheat innocent and genuine people like me. The entire computer market in Mumbai city are filled with Frauds...thereby not leaving back a single person or an organization to trust on.

My Laptop's Issue...
This morning, when I turned ON my laptop, I see the entire display of my Laptop being shifted from Right to Left by 10% thereby leaving black area at the right hand corner.
Last week, when I turned on my laptop for about few mins, the screen was perfect positioned fine. However, due to the internal fan not rotating, I had to shut down my laptop with 5-7 mins. I had also Disassembled and Reassembled the entire laptop 2 weeks back to check the Fan area if theres any dust and blew Vacuum Blower to remove any dust in the Fan area if any. Also, I could see the Fans connector being properly connected to Motherboard. After Re-assembling everything, I turned on my Laptop and I could still see the Display being positioned perfectly fine! But, the Fan still wasnt rotating.
Also, when I hooked up an external monitor to my Laptop VGA connection, the display positions perfectly fine on an external monitor! But still, the display remains shifted to Right on the LCD screen of my HP 530 Laptop. This I believe is a physical shift taken place as at BIOS mode also, the Display is shown shifted to right.

I was wondering if anyone has any good display drivers for the go 7200? as I've underclocked the card with atitool and set up a couple of profiles.
the stock clocks are; 450 core and 700 memory and it will reach 82C I've tried the 8464 b drivers from hp but supposedly there's 8464 a drivers which I just can't download from any link I've found.
does anyone have these drivers as they are newer and its something else to try. I force installed te new nvidia notebook drivers but they work even worse.
or if there are any other drivers that other users have tried, I'll try anything that'll at least drop it below 70C, oh yeah I've underclocked it to 200 core and 600 memory and it still plays call of duty really smooth at 75 - 80 degrees! its so annoying
sorry I forgot to say its XP drivers I need . I've noticed the vista drivers are much further, can anyone tell me if these drivers work cooler? as I might actually install vista if that's the case.

The video card is 7400go.
Yesterday I left my computer for 3 minutes unatended, and when I returned I saw that the screen was on but there was no picture. Something like a blank screensaver. So I restarted, but the screen still was not displaying anything. There is only backlight with absolutely no image whatsoever.
So I plugged in the laptop today to an external monitor, and the monitor displayed bars of RGB lines all over the place. So I am wonderring what do you guys think could have went wrong? Do you think it could be the GPU, bad connection? I can see that there is some HD activity going on through the led but nothing loads or makes a sound.
