Acer :: Crack On The Screen Glass
Mar 2, 2010
My poor Acer 1810T Olympic Edition, after I slipped on stairs.
No scratch, thanks to the neoprene case.
Works perfectly except for a beautiful crack on the screen glass.
I'm using an Acer -- replacement LCD for $99 from eBay.
No $500 LCD's (like for the Sony Vaio P series)
And I'm just going to cannibalize my Acer Aspire One 11.6" netbook for now. All Acer-manufactured 11.6's use identical screens (Acer Ferrari One, Gateway 11.6" netbook, Acer
Aspire One 11.6", Acer 1410 series, Acer 1810 series)

I currently have a Macbook Pro, from the mid 2007 batch. The frame around the screen started with a hairline crack at the base of the screen on both sides about a year ago and since has developed into full blown crack on both sides. It seems that the rest of the screen is fine, so I don't want to buy a new one. Does anyone have any knowledge about replacing the bezel (not sure what to call it?) around the screen?

I've a problem w/ my Macbook pro 15" Late 2008.
I found some crack on my screen.
1. On last Friday. After I went back to my home. I had open my laptop. At first, I had find some scratch on my laptop screen. It's on the bottom right corner of my screen. Then I use my finger w/ a little cloth to clean it. But it became to a little crack on my glass screen. Then I saw something just like a little dent.
- I always keep my Macbook pro in to a hardcase( AXIO - Black Hardcase, the one I got it from applestore), then carrying it w/my laptop bag with carefully.
2. Then on Saturday, I went to apple service (retial shop, I had buy my laptop) to claim about a problem on my laptop screen. They took a photo from my laptop and send it to apple. I said that this is not an accident and they agreed that. On my laptop, There is no any scratch outside or beside the point I 've find a crack. They ask me to wait till they get an information from apple service.
3. Today, I 've got an information from apple.
They tell that I can't claim what happen on my laptop. Apple does not allow to claim for a problem like this under warranty. But my laptop is not have an any accident cause...
They tell me...If I have any problem, I can ask their SPS - Supporting produce service staff for this, they refuse it. Or else waiting to talk to their customer relationship service staff tomorrow....

I recently had an HDX16 and tried out a DM3, but ended up returning the DM3 because I simply wanted a bigger and more powerful setup. Well, I had gone through 3 previous HDX16s because of various issues. Now I get one of the last ones they made (I got it about a week ago but was out of town for Thanksgiving.) Anyways, there's a huge crack in the plastic on the long roundish bar that connects the screen to the laptop. I don't know what to do. I can call, but they can't even send out another replacement, as the 16 doesn't exist anymore. To me the DV6/7/8 series isn't even comparable in my mind. What does everyone think I should do? I get the feeling they'll offer me say $50 which isn't worth the crack. I mean to me $200 is about where I'd say I'd be okay. But even then, I'll use it every day and think of the crack.....

I have had my laptop for about 3 years now. It is an Acer TravelMate 2420. About 2 months ago I started to notice a crack forming on the back of the monitor by the left hinge. I was wondering if there is a way to stop the crack from getting bigger without sending it somewhere to get fixed.

I got my Studio XPS 13 last night and spent about 5 hours installing Vista Business 64-bit from scratch and setting everything up.
It has been running great so far; however, I just noticed one or two dust particles between the glass and the lcd.
What should I do? It only bothers me when the background is white or light color. Should I ignore all that hard work and get it exchanged or am I being too anal about it? What are the chances of the next one being tightly sealed?

I sent my laptop in due to dust being behind the Infinity Glass and some scratches incurred by the speaker grilles on the HDX16.
I received my laptop back last night. The glass was replaced (woohoo!) however the hard drive was re-imaged as well (not so woohoo!).
I admit I did not back up my data. Here's why - 1.) I was never told that data backup was necessary. I have my original chat transcript showing that I was never informed of a possible system restore. I have a chat transcript from last night confirming, from HP, that I was never informed. 2.) The glass was being replaced. Nothing internally needed to be touched.
I attribute this to going to a shop to get your car's windsheild replaced only to find out they also rebuilt your engine. It makes zero sense.
I've contacted HP to see what they can do about this and they stand behind their warranty information which states they are not responsible for lost data. I can understand that. However, they are responsible for their staff and their ability to properly inform customers what may happen when a laptop is sent in for service.
Heck, I don't even know WHAT's reasonable at this point. I could go all out and get my laywer involved but it seems like a waste of time.

As the title suggests I am starting to see small air bubbles form under the glass on my Adamo 13 laptop - along the edge of the LCD monitor and the black border. I cannot seem to find any other reports of this issue on the web.
This laptop almost never leaves the house, or even the desk it sits on, and is otherwise in perfect condition. It is run in a 75-degree house, low humidity (Phoenix, AZ) - really no reason I can see as to why this would be happening, at least not from anything I am doing.

I'm trying to grasp this one... but my mind can not wrap around it, so here goes. I just got off the phone with Dell University sales and talked to the rep. Since the i1720 came out in July I have spec'ed and spec'ed and seen that IT DOES NOT COME WITH OR HAVE OFFERED A 7200RPM HD.
I have a e1705, my dad has one, my girlfriend has one, and my uncle has one... all on my recommendation. I have dabbled/worked in the IT industry since I was 10 and I can't believe that this speed RPM is not offered.
5400RPM existed clear back in 1994.
I just bought my GF a 7200RPM 7k200 200GB Hitachi HD with 16mb of cache for her e1705 from NewEgg.
When we ordered all of our e1705's we intentionally ordered them with the cheapest HD's cause we ordered 7k100 7200RPM 100GB Hitachi's from Froogle searches.
Am I the only one that can't wrap his/her mind around this one....

I bought mine in 2007, thinking I might give it a couple upgrades, since I'm going to be opening it up to clean out its insides and re-do the thermal paste.
I need help upgrading the hard drive. This is my first time upgrading anything, and I need things made specific before proceeding.
The manual says any 2.5 inch SATA would do. I see on newegg that there are 1.5gb/s, and 3.0gb/s variants. Does SATA mean it'll support either? And are there any limits to RPM?
Ram is super expensive nowadays. Just when I was buying the notebook, 4 gb sets would cost $50, now it's double that. Anyway, it makes me want to buy a cheapass laptop around $400 just to take out the bigger hard drive and the ram.

Was wondering if any of the programmers out there could crack the M6300 bios so it would blind flash a M1710. I have a video card here from an M6300 and an M1710 that I would be willing to brick and RMA if it doesnt work.

I got my brand new Studio 1558. 11 Hours later, internal screen cracked. Not even touched by myself, sat on my desk unwrapped (I was yet to set it up,
as it was late at night i got it). I turn it on this morning to find the screen was cracked internally, bleeding. Dell are picking it up tomorrow.
I am extremely angry at this. I'm mainly here to see if this is a common problem. I have literally done nothing to provoke this crack. It was opened once.
I did however notice a few mild streaks at the point where this bleeding started, the first time i turned it on. It was only noticeable with pure black.

I have had the same issue with 10 days old Z690.
I found a small U-like crack around the bottom near the AC connector and the hinge are intact with the bottom housing.
I did not notice it was there after 10 days of use. Once I found it, I called Sony Customer Service to discuss about it , and I was connected to Tech Support for Repairing this unit. (I decided not to return it for credit since I already returned 4 Z690s for keyboard lifting issue for two, high-pitched noise, cosmetic damage and I got sick and tired of returning the VGN Z690)
here are some pics for the cosmetic damage (it is small but noticeable) and keyboard.

Once the laptop arrived in the repair center, they gave me an estimate of $161.40 for replacement of bottom housing.
I should have sent it back for repair
but I gave the repair center one last chance and tried to save some time on placing new order.
I received the laptop on April 20th.
But high-pitched noise started to cry out for my attention...
which did not existed before the repair.. I sent it for repair on 22th and
it is still being diagnosed....

I have a HP 15-r011dx Notebook PCÂ with windows 8.1Â and when on youtube or CNN videos, the speakers carack and pop. The commercials that CNN play prior to the story are fine as is a DVD or my loaded music. I relly do not want to reinstall. I have had the computer 3 weeks and I am not sure if it has been there from the beginning. I have updated everything from HP including BIOS and have tried a different browser and adjusted volume levels. Windows has done updates.

A lot of laptops now a days are sporting the edge to edge display, which imo is pretty cool lookin. I think Apple was one of the first to implement this in their notebooks so thats why I'm posting here.
But are these edge to edge displays really glass? I went to bestbuy to find out.
Checking out all the laptops from HP, Dell, and Apple, all their displays showed some form of flex when pushing on the center of the screen with my index finger. I'm no expert or anything, but glass is not supposed to flex at all.
Apple's notebook had the least amount of flex and probably is glass cause its so thin, whereas the Dell studio xps13 flexed so much it was unbelievable. I'm surprised this was not brought up in reviews.
Just to make sure it wasn't in my head I did the same thing to the imacs, and those screens were rock solid. Without a doubt are covered in glass.
So whats you're take on Apple's notebook? Glass or not?

I have an Acer 6930ZG with a fresh install of windows 7 RC 32bit. I can play Call Of Duty 4, Counter Strike, Flatout 2 etc. with no problems! But when I try to open MapleStory a blue screen appears, and begin to make a physcial memory dump? . MapleStory is a 2D-game, and Call Of Duty requires much more.
I made a little research, and I found out that alot of people have the same problem, and they said it was caused by a conflict with a program or hardware drivers. I have tried to delete my NVIDIA driver, and install it again. No luck.
And yes, I have also tried to run MapleStory in compatibily mode
As I said: It's only in MapleStory I experience the problem, and I don't think it's ram-failure, since I have seen the same problem on a different computer, and I can play Call of Duty 4.
Here is the system log:
Problemsignatur:
Navn på problemhændelse:BlueScreen
OS-version:6.1.7100.2.0.0.256.1
Landestandard-id:1030.....................

so after about 6 months of not-so-abusive use of my notebook, the LCD screen sort of chickened out on me.. (Maybe me thinking to tear it apart sent it running lol)
What happened was, every so often before the day of failure, my screen would go gray in the bottom half and alright in the upper. Usually this would be fixed by applying very little torsion in the screen i.e. pushing on the left upper part of the screen and pulling on the right.
Not yesterday. When that happened and I made this move, it only became worse, lines started forming in the screen and then the screen went from white to black like paper burning..although moving it wouldn't make it stay that way. Now, I could only see about 1/3 of the upper part of the screen.
Now, I can't immediately claim the warranty of this thing, since it was my dad who bought it at Singapore, and the ITW says that the buyer must make a personal appearance with the necessary documents i.e. passport, reciepts etc. before the laptop could be repaired.
The first impression I got was perhaps the wire connecting the LCD to the mainboard needs to be reattached or something, but my local Acer service center suggests that it might as well be an LCD screen fault altogether.
Now, how would you know if it's your LCD screen and not just wires that went kaput? I was pretty convinced that it might just be the wire, since the method I used to do solved it, but now it doesn't budge...

I've been trying to follow various vague guides on how to replace Acer screens. The closest guide on this forum is for the 6930 but the layout is quite different once you open them up. I have so far removed the speaker cover and detached the screen from the main laptop. I have also un-popped the screen bezel but am now stuck. The proplem is that as far as I can see, I need to get the whole bezel off in order to accesss the LCD fittings but I can't because it's catching on the hinges (and the small circuit board for the AC in socket) which protude from the screen. How do you remove the bezel? It looks like it should slide up away from the hinges but mine is getting caught everytime. What have I missed?

I've got my hands on a Acer 4810tz that needs help and I'm trying to figure out what the cause of my problem is.
When the computer boots up (even in POST), the background of the screen is green, and when loading up into windows, anything that would consist of the color green results in distorted and blurred images. All the other colors appear fine.
I did some troubleshooting, including updating the bios and testing the VGA out connection to an external monitor to confirm its not a motherboard/gpu problem.
I'm wondering if simply the connection to the motherboard and the laptop screen got loose, or could the screen inverter be going bad?
In either case, I would have no problem taking apart the laptop to reseat the cables and put it all back together, but I'm not familiar with Acer's warranty policies. The laptop is still under warranty until August.
I know Dell and HP really don't care (or are too stupid to know) if you disassemble a laptop and put it back together, but I don't know where Acer stands.
It looks rather simple to disassemble, but it appears there is a screw underneath a sticker, which I'm assuming serves as the 'Warranty Void if Removed' sticker.

pulled my laptop off the table and now the right side of my screen has little red lines in it. When I flex the screen, the lines go away or the screen flickers. I am typing on it right now, the screen works fine otherwise as long as I dont move it....
When we upgraded my processor I thought the screen was generally pretty easy to replace.
I can get a used one on ebay (the whole screen assembly, NOT just the LCD).

I don't know what happened but now when I tilt my display past a certain point, the screen display gets garbled. It does look like one of the joins at the back has come undone too, probably related. Must be a loose connection.
Best to send it back to Acer? It shipped with a faulty mic connection too to be honest.
What would be the best way of getting it back to Acer? I'm in Ireland I ordered it off laptopsdirect.ie. It's still a few months within warranty as far as I'm aware. I don't want to strain my neck too much so I will need to get it fixed soon enough.

My Aspire M (1.5 years old) was making a horrible noise, so I opened it up to find a very dirty fan. Â I cleaned the fan, but it still made noise. I bought a new fan and installed it. After closing it up and turning it on, it only gets to the ACER screen and then recycles.
Â
I probably inadvertantly corrupted the BIOS, or is it something else? Â Can I flash the BIOS without having a working BIOS?

I uninstalled 2 programs and deleted shared files after the uninstall.
On reeboot of the computer my screen was pixellated and it was hard to read text.
I have tried the following to get the screen back to normal.
System restore
reload uninstalled programs
Installed video drivers
Contacted Acer who told me to put system back to factory defaults, which I did
Nothing has worked so far
I have set my screen size to 1024 * 768 which allows me to read text but the screen still doesn't look right.
I have plugged in an external monitor which there is no problem with.
