I brought this up 2 years ago and no one could answer but though maybe it worth trying again. If you upgrade Windows SP1 to SP2 or SP3 on Travelmate 630 series you loose the Fn-F5 function.
View 5 RepliesWhen at home I use my laptop (Vista Home Premium) connected to external Labtec speakers and an Acer port replicator, which in turn is connected to an LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Normally all is well.
I quite often use my laptop during my travels and sometimes when I return home (and it is only sometimes) I get no sound from the speakers in the laptop or from the external speakers. The muting is right across the board, internet, music, DVDs etc.
I have checked everywhere I can think, such a laptop sound control, screen icons and Control panel, and everything seems to be set for sound.
I can get round this by re-installing the sound drivers but this is a bit of an overkill.
For a start where should I check to ensure that the sound is not muted and what is the likely cause of the muting?
I report on an acer Travelmate 4200 laptop with a 1.8Ghz CPU with 1Gb RAM running Vista Home Basic.
About a week ago discovered that no sound was coming from speakers. Device Manager check reveals problem with the Realtek High Definition Audio. D/L'ed the driver from the acer AU website (v.6.0.1.5334), installed it okay but still no sound.
Could this be a hardware issue or have I missed a step in the software configuration?
When I ping the router sometimes I get extreme packet loss (like, only 1 out of 4 is successfully received back). This comes and goes, sometimes it's fine (no packet loss) and other times the wireless becomes horribly slow (significant packet loss). Other computers in the house are fine, so I assume it isn't a problem with the router (a Dlink DIR-615).
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy 1420 has usually performed OK. In the last couple of weeks my screen will turn into what looks like a digital puzzle. Then goes out completely , turns bluish/ black and cannot get any image.
Re-booting doesnt help. The screen will come back eventually. Contacted Dell chat today and they want to send a tech to replace lcd. As soon as I got off, the screen was fine again Will the tech still replace the screen if it`s working when he gets here? .

Since Windows did an automatic update to my CompaqCQ58 laptop (running on Windows 8.1) on 16th August I've lost all sound.
I've read Mario's methods for correcting the fault, but my list of "Installed Updates" does not show KB2962407.
There is an update on 16/8/14 numbered KB2962409. Is this the one I should uninstall and hide, or am I going to lose some other function of the laptop?
Surely I am not the only one affected by this glitch. Are HP bombarding Windows with demands for them to correct their fault, or are we all expected to repair our own machines!
I just received my new laptop today, and I have never had this much trouble setting thigns up before. I'm guessing that most of my issues is due to Windows 8 in general, but it is still agrivating none the less.
For whatever reason, the internet connection on my laptop just drops. No notifications, and it says I'm still connected to the router, I just don't have connection to the internet. I fix this by disconnecting/reconnecting to my network, but its agrivated to have to do this every 2-4 minutes.
Windows says that there are 51 updates, but that "it won't update till the maintenance for my convenience", I'm wondering if this is the trouble with my wireless. I'm not sure how to convince windows that I WANT it to update, not wait hopping that it will update.
While this is aggravating enough as it is, it becomes more aggravating when the computer locks up for 10+ minutes at a time while trying to install programs. There was even a time when the I could not get the startup screen to switch to the log in. It eventually did after many minutes of waiting, and closing/opening the monitor.
Is there anything I can do about the internet issue?
Actually it happend about 2 months ago. The sound coming out of the speaker as well as the sound when I was using a headphone was just not right, barely any low frequency sound. In the beginning I can fix this by reinstalling the audio driver. Then after a week or so the same problem would occur again, and I had to reinstall the driver. After several times, reinstalling the audio driver cannot solve the problem anymore. Besides if I plug in the headphone after I muted the laptop, it should unmute automatically right? Well that does not happen and it's still muted.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had an extra Lenovo T410 sitting around so I wanted to restore it to its "factory state" by performing a "format boot". Plan was to boot from CD drive and reinstall Windows 7 (32 bit) during the process. However, disaster, after the process finished I am now stuck in some sort of safe mode (everything is larger than usual) and the computer is missing several drivers. I installed the network adapter driver manually (can identify networks but can't connect to internet). Device manager still lists Base System Device, Ethernet Controller, PCI Serial Port, PCI Simple Communications Controller, and Unknown Device drivers to be out of date.
My objectives here are to
1) restore connectivity to internet and
2) get Windows 7 Home Premium to full functionality.
I want to buy the acer aspire switch 10 , it's really awesome for me , but I have a question how could I write on onenote known that the stylus is almost useless , so is there any digitizer pen compatible with this product or not ....

I want to switch to XP Home but I can't locate the various drivers apart from on sites which claim to offer 'free drivers' but then ask for fees. Recently I allowed him to use my 5610Z to make some pictures of himself, etc. Later the family went home far from here. Still later I tried to start the Laptop and "enter supervisor password" would appear each time I tried to start it. I'm never used a password, don't even know how to do such a thing. Naturally I called and he "remembers nothing!"
I'm old, 75, and do not have good vision. I found in the Manual for the Model a page showing "Jumper Settings" and a diagram with the description, 'Clear CMOS Jumper.
Note:
J3 locates at the bottom side of the main board as the red circle highlighted." Fine, I found it physically but don't know how to turn it on or off. I've pulled batteries to clear CMOS before but never had to deal with a switch.
Would I be correct in using tweezers and just pulling the square object up, or try to turn it?
I miss my Acer. Two years, never a blue screen, nor freeze up. I want it back running before I kick the bucket.
I tried charging my Acer and it says "No battery detected.' I do not know what to do about it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst I already created the factory default backup for recovery on USB drives (did 2 of them), but before I want to delete the recovery parittion, I would like to test first the recovery I created on the USB drives.
Here is my dillema:I can get to the bios and have already setup the boot sequence to make the primary boot device my USB flash drive. It seems not to get there.
I tried the other option the D2D, wherein I hit the volume up button and the windows button onscreen and I got to D2D. I get to the menu wherein I am trying to recover from an image and have inserted the USB drive. That is where it all stops. It cannnot find the recovery image even though I have already inserted the USB flash drive even before boot up. I did this with both the USB flash drives I made.
I am pretty sure that the USB flash drives contains recovery file, since the USB flash drives titled "recovery" and it contains folders such as "boot" and it has files. I tried both USB ports (micro - using the OTG cable, and the actual USB port on the keyboard)
My battery icon keeps on displaying that my battery is not depleting, which is weird since I've been using my laptop for several hours now and it is still at 100%. When I plug in, it registers that it is plugged in but says fully charged. Not sure if this is a magical always - full battery - or a problem?

when my girlfriend tries to switch on the above laptop it seems to boot up but there is just a blank, black screen. If you look very, very closely the desktop display seems to be there but we don't know how to change the colour/contrast etc. Is it as simple as that do you think or is the problem deeper. I've tried everything I can think of; I've thrown water over it, hit it with the cat and punched it. None seem to work.

My only concern is that when I switch between different displays, the size of the desktop objects and icons changes (see caputres below). And that occurs even when I connect my laptop to a 1080p LCD screen, with which the resolution does not change (I checked in the nVidia control panel).
After I disconnect/switch back to the original screen, the icons size is still not right and I need to reboot my computer to get them to their original aspect.
Any solution for this not to change everytime I connect an external monitor?
I don't know if it comes from Acer or Windows 7...
How to zoom (increase text size) on the aspire switch 10? My other computers have a settings for this, Also, where can I get a user's manual. They are requesting a number I neither can find, or can't understand where it is, or can't read even with a magnifing glass.

Whenever I run games or graphics-intensive program such as the adobe premier pro, the program will continue to run using the Intel HD graphics and not the Nvidia driver.
I've tried changing the settings in the Nvidia control panel to use Nvidia graphics driver for all programs, but running the optimus tool will show me that the Nvidia GPU is not being used for any of the programs.
I recently purchased an Acer Switch 11. I noticed that I wasn't able to adjust the display contrast, using the left/right arrows and "FN" key. Through a chat session, an Acer technician recommended that I reinstall the Intel VGA Driver through Acer Recovery Management. I followed his instruction, and it worked. However, later I noticed that I could not longer adjust the contrast. I could see the indicator move up and down in the upper left-hand corner of the screen, but the contrast wouldn't changed. I once again reinstalled the Intel VGA Driver, and it corrected the problem.
After re-installing the driver a second time, I decided I would leave the tablet plugged into the keyboard. Every fifteen minutes or so, I would unplug the display to see if the contrast changed. Based on my settings, it did change as desired. I did this for several hours. Later, I decided to remove the display from the keyboard. Initially, I was still able to adjust the contrast. However, after 10 minutes or so, I no longer could make adjustments. At that point, I placed the display back into the keyboard dock. I tried to see if it being locked into the keyboard was required in order to make contrast changes. It still didn't work. I then reinstalled the Intel VGA Driver and corrected the problem. I have kept it plugged into the keyboard, and I can still make adjustments.

After two days, I could not get on internet anymore due to some proxy server errors. I also noticed there were many junkies installed.
So, I would like to have a complete clean up by resetting it to factory defaults. The Amazon box did not come with any system CD.
I just want to be sure my Aspire Switch 10 is working as designed. When you adjust the brightness on your device (any laptop or tablet) in 8.1, how many steps is it from dimmest to brightest? The brightness bar goes up many steps, but after doing function + arrow keys 3 or 4 times im already at max brightness from the bottom. It feels like there should be many more increments of brightness.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have problem a with my Switch 10. The internet connection drops frequently. It is followed by the signal strength icon showing 'Limited'. I then turn off WI-FI and turn back on and it does not recognize any networks at all. I then go into network settings, run the troubleshooter and it does its stuff, re-setting the network adapter, and then informs me that it could not find an issue. After resetting the adapter it works fine again.I have tried uninstalling and installing latest drivers but the problem persists. The problem lies within the adapter itself or the driver.
My adapter shows as being REALTEK and i read on here of similar problems with the Broadcom adapter, which makes me think that the driver is causing the problem. Someone suggested that the Bluetooth was causing a conflict, so I removed bluetooth and it made no difference. (I have re-installed bluetooth. All drivers are latest ones.My switch is not a month old yet and this happens a couple of times a day. and am close to returning the product. I like it, but cannot put up with such an important issue as the internet randomly dropping.
Acer usb ports not working anymore, but this USB port (the only one on the device) will connect the external drive but then disconnect a few minutes later (pretty much at random). It makes accessing games and my iTunes library very frustrating.
