I report on an acer Travelmate 4200 laptop with a 1.8Ghz CPU with 1Gb RAM running Vista Home Basic.
About a week ago discovered that no sound was coming from speakers. Device Manager check reveals problem with the Realtek High Definition Audio. D/L'ed the driver from the acer AU website (v.6.0.1.5334), installed it okay but still no sound.
Could this be a hardware issue or have I missed a step in the software configuration?
Since Windows did an automatic update to my CompaqCQ58 laptop (running on Windows 8.1) on 16th August I've lost all sound.
I've read Mario's methods for correcting the fault, but my list of "Installed Updates" does not show KB2962407.
There is an update on 16/8/14 numbered KB2962409. Is this the one I should uninstall and hide, or am I going to lose some other function of the laptop?
Surely I am not the only one affected by this glitch. Are HP bombarding Windows with demands for them to correct their fault, or are we all expected to repair our own machines!
When at home I use my laptop (Vista Home Premium) connected to external Labtec speakers and an Acer port replicator, which in turn is connected to an LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Normally all is well.
I quite often use my laptop during my travels and sometimes when I return home (and it is only sometimes) I get no sound from the speakers in the laptop or from the external speakers. The muting is right across the board, internet, music, DVDs etc.
I have checked everywhere I can think, such a laptop sound control, screen icons and Control panel, and everything seems to be set for sound.
I can get round this by re-installing the sound drivers but this is a bit of an overkill.
For a start where should I check to ensure that the sound is not muted and what is the likely cause of the muting?
I just received my new laptop today, and I have never had this much trouble setting thigns up before. I'm guessing that most of my issues is due to Windows 8 in general, but it is still agrivating none the less.
For whatever reason, the internet connection on my laptop just drops. No notifications, and it says I'm still connected to the router, I just don't have connection to the internet. I fix this by disconnecting/reconnecting to my network, but its agrivated to have to do this every 2-4 minutes.
Windows says that there are 51 updates, but that "it won't update till the maintenance for my convenience", I'm wondering if this is the trouble with my wireless. I'm not sure how to convince windows that I WANT it to update, not wait hopping that it will update.
While this is aggravating enough as it is, it becomes more aggravating when the computer locks up for 10+ minutes at a time while trying to install programs. There was even a time when the I could not get the startup screen to switch to the log in. It eventually did after many minutes of waiting, and closing/opening the monitor.
Is there anything I can do about the internet issue?
Actually it happend about 2 months ago. The sound coming out of the speaker as well as the sound when I was using a headphone was just not right, barely any low frequency sound. In the beginning I can fix this by reinstalling the audio driver. Then after a week or so the same problem would occur again, and I had to reinstall the driver. After several times, reinstalling the audio driver cannot solve the problem anymore. Besides if I plug in the headphone after I muted the laptop, it should unmute automatically right? Well that does not happen and it's still muted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought an HP - dv6 WF536AV Laptop. The sounds were proper from the built-in Altec Lansing speakers , till i updated the audio drivers via HP Support Utility.
Now i do not get any playback from the speakers mentioned above, but while plugging in my iPod headphones, there is audio in the headphones.
I've tried to reinstall the IDT Audio driver from the HP Support utility as well as one downloaded from the website :

Yet, nothing is resolved. Of what i understood from various articles on the web, was that the new driver sets the headphone jack as the primary device for audio output and hence it does not reach the speakers.
Also , I'm pretty sure of this not being a hardware conflict since the laptop is recently purchased and i've rarely used the headphone jack.

I brought this up 2 years ago and no one could answer but though maybe it worth trying again. If you upgrade Windows SP1 to SP2 or SP3 on Travelmate 630 series you loose the Fn-F5 function.

Take audio drivers for example.
Acer update site reports Realtek audio driver version 6.0.1.5847 for my system.
If I switch to Seven 32, it reports 6.0.1.5915.
If I look for Aspire 8940G, Vista 32 (same audio hardware as mine), I see 6.0.1.5918, and, finally, 8940G Seven 32 has 6.0.1.5930.
They are all different from official Realteak drivers: they are at version 2.39 and lacks a control panel element (from Realtek...) that is present in the Acer divers, the one with the desk picture and the speakers around the room.
First question is: does Acer ever update drivers for different system or they just offer the drivers that were present in the retailed system?
Second: how comes the Realtek drivers lack the control panel component?
I've got an Aspire 5920G with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphics card/chipset. Up until last week, I'd been running with whatever drivers had been installed when I originally purchased the laptop in October last year.
Vista's Windows Update told me of new drivers for the 3470 that had been released in January, so I promptly downloaded them, glad to have something a little more up-to-date, since the laptop is being used frequently as a lightweight gaming machine. The driver, according to Device Manager, is dated 15/01/2009, and is version number 8.580.0.0.
My problem now is that every time I boot the machine, an ATI warning appears reading the following:
"The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enable graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your ATI adapter using the Displays Manager."..................
I've just done a clean install of Windows 7 64bit and installed the latest Realtek HD driver (2.42) from their site, selected 5.1 in the sound properties through Windows and Audio Manager but when I playback media the sound is still tinny and only 2.0.
I haven't installed anything else and let Windows find the other drivers for my 9600M GS etc
This is the second time I've installed the OS as facing the same problem before and thought it might have been a corrupt installation or something.

I ask because whilest playing games or just listening to music every so often (well pritty regulary actualy) the sound just becomes verry distorted and unplayable untill I restart the app/game. I have tryed to install the latest official realtek driver 2.06 (not acer's version), I now know this was'nt the smartest of moves on my part as the sound then became verry tinny witch i now know was because the normal realtek driver's dont account for the ''tuba'' in acers.
i have bought myself the aspire 6920G, and i have two questions.
First: I would like to update my Nvidea Geforce 9500M GS driver, i went to the site, downloa section. I found quite a list of files, but i don't know wich file i should download.
Secondly i'd like to know if it's possible to link the gemstone control to windows media player. Atm it opens Windows media center, but i think it's not very good to listen to music while gaming.
Every time I start up my Extensa 4420, I get the following error message window:

Why is this happening? If I go into the device manager, it says that the graphics adapter is working. My daughter's Acer is 2.5 years old and it's running Windows 7. She recently rebooted it last week for a Windows Update and since then it starts up but hangs, with the hard drive light blinking slowly. I ran it in Safe Mode and it gets through CLASSPNP.SYS then hangs. According to articles this is usually a hardware problem. The only option I have with this OS is to bring up the Command Prompt. I've tried System File Checker - no go. System Repair comes back with unknown error and what looks like a bad Driver.
I was able to build a new partition (100+GB) and do a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate w/ SP1. This went through fine, though I would have to load the Acer drivers for the network card, etc. to finalize it. The point here is that this shows that the hard drive isn't the issue.
My fear is that Windows installed either some sort of driver or other update that has now caused the current OS on her laptop to be unusable. I went to do a System Restore and the only restore point it had was the Critical Update that she rebooted to on 2/13. Trying to roll back to that Restore Point didn't work.

I have an HP Envy dv7-7230us. I recently installed multiple HP updates deemed "critical" by their prompt. After installing and rebooting, I have no sound. If it is a clue, it also disconnected my WiFi.

I have an HP Pavilion dm4 that I bought last summer, but I'm not sure which model #s specifically comes after that.
I just updated my HP BIOS and now I am not getting any sound from the speakers or through headphones, this has happened before though I admittedly cannot remember what the solution was.
I have updtaed my windows as regular update but after that no sound from speakers. laptop is showing everything is fine and all sound drivers all working fine so whenever i clicked on scan for hardware changes in device manager menu then speakers starts working fine so every time i have to make that step to enable speaker., already i have uninstalled drivers and updated with default updater but same issue occurs in next boot...
View 3 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I updated from the Windows 8.1 evaluation to the full 8.1 release and since then my audio has not been working. In the control panel, "Digital Display Audio (AMD High Definition Audio Device)" is listed as unplugged. The audio icon on the taskbar is Xed out and clicking it runs the error finder in vain. Speakers no longer show up in the device listing although now that nothing is working I'm not sure if they ever did or if audio just came through Digital Display Audio. Headphones do not show up as playback devices and the volume controls on the keyboard and taskbar are inaccessible.
I have never used external speakers. The Windows 8.1 update seemed to wipe all of my HP and AMD software that came with the laptop so I reinstalled the HP Support Center and searched for driver updates and all that jive but everything shows as up to date. I don't know what else to look for as most of the forums I've seen seem to be talking about their HDMI out sound not working when plugged into a TV and I'm just trying to have sound, period.

My notebook restarted itself to make updates, once i logged on i found that the sound is not working on music files, web pages etc. other than the windows sound. The other thing i noticed is that the mute button will not go off or on? i tried to troubleshoot but nothing..I found that left clicking my sound icon and clicking on playback devices and then left clicking speakers and headphones and clicking 'Test' led to a pop up; "Device in Use.The device is being used by another application. any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again." I have checked everywhere but i can't find the device being used anywhere? I'm not willing to lose by Beats Audio.

I have the Envy 15 which came pre-installed with Win8. When the 8.1 update came out I installed and now can't get any audio when connecting via HDMI to my TV although image is there.
I've ensured all the drivers are updated AFAIK, but in the Device Manager I get the highlighted, obviously as above, the cable is plugged in.
All was working fine prior to the update and I have also used 4 different cables, which are all fine as I also have an old Compaq laptop which is still running Win8 allows audio via HDMI.
When I ping the router sometimes I get extreme packet loss (like, only 1 out of 4 is successfully received back). This comes and goes, sometimes it's fine (no packet loss) and other times the wireless becomes horribly slow (significant packet loss). Other computers in the house are fine, so I assume it isn't a problem with the router (a Dlink DIR-615).
View 10 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the windows 8.1 update i can't get the sound to work on my tv. When i connect me laptop to the tv by a HDMI cable the sound doesn't work. The playback option is already set to 'realtek digital output' and i installed the latest drivers.
When i check my device manager i see that the high definition audio has got a exclamation mark on it,
but when i try to install de latest drivers trough the device manager it says that the latest drivers are already istalled.
Well i just don't no a sollution for this problem, and it would be nice to watch movies with sound on my tv again
My 1420 has usually performed OK. In the last couple of weeks my screen will turn into what looks like a digital puzzle. Then goes out completely , turns bluish/ black and cannot get any image.
Re-booting doesnt help. The screen will come back eventually. Contacted Dell chat today and they want to send a tech to replace lcd. As soon as I got off, the screen was fine again Will the tech still replace the screen if it`s working when he gets here? .

A new bios update was released today for the XPS 1645 which apparently enhance sound quality. Thats the only thing listed in the release notes anyways.
I installed it on mine, but haven't noticed a difference as of yet.

I'm not sure if it's caused by the Windows 8 update from a few days back, but the problem started around then.
The audio on my laptop is not working. The mute stays on, even when I press the physcial keyboard button to enable sound, and try to enable sound with my mouse from the volume menu. Nothing has audio.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe sound overlay keeps coming on every 2 seconds with the sound like its changing the volume, but it isnt. If i try using my finger it goes up and down maybe 2 bars then goes back to where it was stuck at after going mental for another 5 seconds. I can only change the volume using the taskbar icon, but the overlay keeps coming on. mute doesnt work, pause/play etc doesnt work, quickplay. You can imagine its incredibly annoying.
Is there a driver i can reinstall or something?

has anybody else had a crackling sound when playing sound example music/games. i always get it in my right speaker and how can i fix this i believe this is a software/hardware issue as whenever the sound goes off the crackling deaseses.
