When I ping the router sometimes I get extreme packet loss (like, only 1 out of 4 is successfully received back). This comes and goes, sometimes it's fine (no packet loss) and other times the wireless becomes horribly slow (significant packet loss). Other computers in the house are fine, so I assume it isn't a problem with the router (a Dlink DIR-615).
View 10 RepliesMy 1420 has usually performed OK. In the last couple of weeks my screen will turn into what looks like a digital puzzle. Then goes out completely , turns bluish/ black and cannot get any image.
Re-booting doesnt help. The screen will come back eventually. Contacted Dell chat today and they want to send a tech to replace lcd. As soon as I got off, the screen was fine again Will the tech still replace the screen if it`s working when he gets here? .

When at home I use my laptop (Vista Home Premium) connected to external Labtec speakers and an Acer port replicator, which in turn is connected to an LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Normally all is well.
I quite often use my laptop during my travels and sometimes when I return home (and it is only sometimes) I get no sound from the speakers in the laptop or from the external speakers. The muting is right across the board, internet, music, DVDs etc.
I have checked everywhere I can think, such a laptop sound control, screen icons and Control panel, and everything seems to be set for sound.
I can get round this by re-installing the sound drivers but this is a bit of an overkill.
For a start where should I check to ensure that the sound is not muted and what is the likely cause of the muting?
I brought this up 2 years ago and no one could answer but though maybe it worth trying again. If you upgrade Windows SP1 to SP2 or SP3 on Travelmate 630 series you loose the Fn-F5 function.

About a week ago discovered that no sound was coming from speakers. Device Manager check reveals problem with the Realtek High Definition Audio. D/L'ed the driver from the acer AU website (v.6.0.1.5334), installed it okay but still no sound.
Could this be a hardware issue or have I missed a step in the software configuration?
Since Windows did an automatic update to my CompaqCQ58 laptop (running on Windows 8.1) on 16th August I've lost all sound.
I've read Mario's methods for correcting the fault, but my list of "Installed Updates" does not show KB2962407.
There is an update on 16/8/14 numbered KB2962409. Is this the one I should uninstall and hide, or am I going to lose some other function of the laptop?
Surely I am not the only one affected by this glitch. Are HP bombarding Windows with demands for them to correct their fault, or are we all expected to repair our own machines!
I just received my new laptop today, and I have never had this much trouble setting thigns up before. I'm guessing that most of my issues is due to Windows 8 in general, but it is still agrivating none the less.
For whatever reason, the internet connection on my laptop just drops. No notifications, and it says I'm still connected to the router, I just don't have connection to the internet. I fix this by disconnecting/reconnecting to my network, but its agrivated to have to do this every 2-4 minutes.
Windows says that there are 51 updates, but that "it won't update till the maintenance for my convenience", I'm wondering if this is the trouble with my wireless. I'm not sure how to convince windows that I WANT it to update, not wait hopping that it will update.
While this is aggravating enough as it is, it becomes more aggravating when the computer locks up for 10+ minutes at a time while trying to install programs. There was even a time when the I could not get the startup screen to switch to the log in. It eventually did after many minutes of waiting, and closing/opening the monitor.
Is there anything I can do about the internet issue?
Actually it happend about 2 months ago. The sound coming out of the speaker as well as the sound when I was using a headphone was just not right, barely any low frequency sound. In the beginning I can fix this by reinstalling the audio driver. Then after a week or so the same problem would occur again, and I had to reinstall the driver. After several times, reinstalling the audio driver cannot solve the problem anymore. Besides if I plug in the headphone after I muted the laptop, it should unmute automatically right? Well that does not happen and it's still muted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had an extra Lenovo T410 sitting around so I wanted to restore it to its "factory state" by performing a "format boot". Plan was to boot from CD drive and reinstall Windows 7 (32 bit) during the process. However, disaster, after the process finished I am now stuck in some sort of safe mode (everything is larger than usual) and the computer is missing several drivers. I installed the network adapter driver manually (can identify networks but can't connect to internet). Device manager still lists Base System Device, Ethernet Controller, PCI Serial Port, PCI Simple Communications Controller, and Unknown Device drivers to be out of date.
My objectives here are to
1) restore connectivity to internet and
2) get Windows 7 Home Premium to full functionality.
Is it normal that dell.ca would have fewer choices of screens than dell.com? I'm looking at the studio 15, and dell.com lists Hi Resolution/Bright,
glossy widescreen 15.4 WLED display (1440x900) as a choice, which is what I want, but dell.ca doesn't. When I view the system specs though, that choice is listed as on option.
I have a Dell Latitude E6530 and when I plugged in my monitor and keyboard into the docking station, they were not recognized. But I can plug them into the laptop while docked and they are recognized.

my laptop vostro 3460 won't boot any more. When I turn it on it loads the Dell logo (I suppose it passes the POST) but then it just shows a black page. It could be anything, but I guess that it may have something to do with Windows 8 and the UEFI system. I also would be quite happy to install linux mint and get rid of Windows, but I don't know how to change the boot priority order.
So my questions are:
1 is it a hardware issue ? if not, can I solve my problem easily ?

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen i first got my dell inspiron and it was all good. when i set the monitor to shut off after 1 minute of being idle, it did and would not turn on unless someone moved the mouse of pressed a button. however, after i reformatted, the computer monitor would shut off after 1 min but soon afterwards it turns on again by itself, then it goes off again, then it remains on permanently. i recently formatted my laptop again and this problem persists. anyone knows whats sup? im using xp ftw... and my configurations are the same as it was before the reformats so idk whats wrong.

In a nutshell, I got this Inspiron about 3 years ago- I currently have it connected to an external monitor, because my wife dropped a heavy object on the screen last year, and destroyed said screen.
Just this past week, I turned it on, and it started getting really slow. Finally, it got to a point where now, when I turn it on, it boots up, it goes to the desktop, the desktop icons all appear, and within a minute or two, it just kind of slows down, and eventually freezes up, and the hard drive indicator light quits doing anything. It does not respond to anything, and the only way to restart it, is to hold the power button down until it resets.
If anybody knows of a thread already on this site, regarding this problem, please point me in the right direction, as I tried the search function, and did not come up with anything.
and one or two other things, since it initially started having problems, sometimes, I will get two "missing module" error boxes pop up- and also, while it is booting, the screen flashes black for about 3 seconds, and then comes back on and continues to load.
Thank you very much to anybody who could possibly help me out of this jam. I really do not plan on using this laptop (or notebook) anymore, if and hopefully when, I get my files off of it.
And that is the other problem, I can not attempt to boot up in safe mode, as my screen is busted up, and it will not output to my external monitor, when I hit the f key while it is starting. I did make a couple different bootable cds, but they do not seem to do anything.
I enjoy gaming, although I wouldn't consider myself a "hardcore" gamer. I currently have 1024 MB of RAM (2 x 512) and I am looking to upgrade soon. My options are as follows:
- Dell certfied RAM
- PNY RAM
- Kingston RAM
- Corsair RAM
Of course, for the Dell RAM, I have to wait for the shipping, but it is one of the cheaper ones. However, any of the other three I can pick up at Best Buy (which is more convenient). Can someone point out the pros and cons of each? It seems the PNY is a great buy, but could there be performance problems compared to the others? And why is the Kingston so expensive?
I purchased an Inspiron 14z a few months ago and it has been working fine until recently - upon starting up, it freezes at the dell logo screen. I have searched for posts regarding this problem and have found no solutions that work for me; I've tried pressing F2 and F12 but no keystrokes will register.
