May 6, 2010I just received a new MBP 2.4 i5. When I am using the computer, every once in a while(every 20-30 seconds) I hear a "pinging" noise. Is this normal?

Dell Inspiron 17R :: High Pitch Beeping Noise That Last 3-4 Seconds?
Feb 21, 2011I just bought a Inspiron 17R, Intel i3, 4GB RAM. I've had the machine for exactly one week and have noticed several times, this high pitch (almost like a digital watch), that comes on for about 3 seconds, followed by a 'click', as if a disk drive was done working. This noise is coming from within the computer, not the speakers. Yesterday, it did it again, except the pitch changed during it's sound; again, followed by the 'clicking' sound.
The other thing I've noticed (and maybe I'm oblivious to new technology), is the fan on the inside of the computer doesn't stay on all the time. It comes on about once every 3-4 minutes, at a about a 5-8 second cycle. Maybe it's supposed to do that. I'm use to my old machine's fan staying on most of the time, allowing you to feel the heat being pushed out. Not so much on this one.
Now, could these two be related?

May 15, 2009My MBP is now a week old, it's a 2.53 GHz unibody 4 GB RAM laptop. The startup procedure used to last for 35 seconds, but now it can take as long as 43 seconds. I don't have that many applications.

Aug 14, 2009Just installed Visa 64 , everything went fine , but every time i boot into Vista i get a black screen with a white cursor in the top left have corner flashing very fast and it does this for almost 60 seconds and then Vista boots normally.
I have tried unplugging everything from my Mac , but i still get the same problem.
It looks like Vista is wating for something then it gives up, I have not installed any software only the bootcamp driver.
Anybody know what is wrong, I had Xp on previously and did not have this problem on fat32 , Vista only works on NTFC if that makes a difference.

Dec 3, 2009I've got 15" MBP (umm early 2009? has removable battery), and I was playing TF2 in windows XP the other day when it BSOD'. So I had to hard restart it, and go back into OS X. This is when I noticed a weird "growling or bumping" sound coming from the left fan which is kinda loud in a quite room. Its almost like a rattling sound.

Apr 30, 2010I need to import some LP's to digital format. At one time I had a program that allowed me to filter out any hiss or noise without degrading the recording. But sadly I can not find that program now. So is there any filters that come with GarageBand or can be added to do this. Or any other application that will work with a mac.
I need to import 100+ LP's. I will be using a preamp to take the phono players output directly into my MBP.

Aug 9, 2009My friend just gave me her White Macbook pre 2007 i beleive to fix because i fix all her computers but this is the first time im trying to fix a mac . Upon pressing the power button im greeted by the BONG tone and a white screen. Then i start hearing the HD making some very messed up noises witch to me are the fimiliar sound of a hd failure and so i beleive this is the problem. After a minute or two i get a flashing folder with a ? on it witch means it can't find the system files it needs to boot. So i tryed booting from the Tiger discs but it will not boot. Now this is leading me to beleive that it is the logic board. Right now im waiting till morning to buy a torx t8 so i can replace the HD.

Apr 17, 2009Alright so I just want to know if I should be worried or not about this:
Lately, when I open the lid, the drive starts "moaning". You know that sound as if you just inserted a CD or DVD into it. It does it three times with a couple of seconds gap in between.
It still reads just fine, I just tried it with a DVD, but I'm still concerned about the sound.
Usually there is just a small and short sound when opening the lid, just like when booting up, when (as much as I can figure) the head realigns to center.

Jan 12, 2009For quite a while my GF has nagged me for a "nice laptop", i.e. a MacBook. With the new models out, the old ones (just before the latest one-piece-thingies) should be easier to find. Most of her friends have one and I am soon getting my bonus, so starting to shop around.
Myself, I am a ThinkPad evangelist (those "ugly, square, black things" according to my GF), and have no trouble picking a used one. With Macs I am basically into uncharted territory, hense my post.
1) I am concerned if the previous owner has enabled features that would interfere with our privacy - remote activation of camera, remote access, etc. How can I check this and make sure she will not participate in some amateur BigBrother?
2) What should I check on a 13 inch MacBook except the obvious battery, fan noise, scratches and dirt beyond normal?
3) Does the Mac have BIOS, drivers, etc. I should upgrade before I hand it to her?
Dell :: LED Lights Come On For Seconds And Then Go Off
Nov 10, 2008turning on then turning off? When I turn it on, the LED lights come on for seconds and then go off. I replaced the motherboard and the processor and its still the same problem. I also took out the RAM and had the same problem?
What else could be causing it? The graphics card?

May 5, 2009Because of various problems I was having with my M4400, I decided to reformat and reinstall Windows (Vista Ultimate SP1).
Immediately after reinstalling, it started to freeze for up to 1 second every 10 to 20 seconds, which is really annoying. However, it doesn't miss any keystrokes or mouse movements, as it catches up after the freeze. I'm wondering whether it's got something to do with some unrecognised devices that it has yet to find the drivers for:

Dec 4, 2014I have a G62 laptop with windows 7 64bit version, I have it for almost 4 years.In about 3 days ago, I was running some youtube videos, the system started freezing (video+sound) every 2 seconds!I switched it off and went to sleep, the next morning, I turned it on, went to the welcome page! and it showed me the destktop but nothing opens, no apps no browser, when i opened task manager, it was showing the programs i clicked with a *32 at the end! in about 5 min later explorer.exe freezes and i had to shut it down.
what i tried :
-memory test : HDD test, freezes in around 50%
-factory reset: the partition is not found
-scan the system with antivirus : freezes in the middle!
-used a software to clean registrylogged in windows, starts normal, after 6-8 min it starts to freez every 2 second, and every two second i hear a noise in the HDD like crack! and it happens every 2 secondsmy activities: running Flight simulator Xrunning flash 3d gamesyoutube videos and movies
system :

Dell M17x R3 :: Freezes Up Every Few Seconds
Mar 4, 2013It freezes up every few seconds and resumes after another few seconds. This happens when I am gamming. I can move my cursor when it freezed, the audio also gets stuck.
I've tried all the Dell PC Diagnostics, and didnt find anything wrong. I fresh reinstalled my system, scaned virus and malwares, update my drivers, still problem remains. I think it's my video card might have phyiscal damage cause I move the huge ass laptop a lot, but I am not sure.
I had installed an new ssd 2 weeks ago in module 1, but I had no problem until yesterday.

Acer :: V5-573 Does Not Start / Sometimes Starts For 2 Seconds
Jan 27, 2015I have a problem with my Acer V5-573, 6 months old.
Some days ago it did not start when pressing the start button. I removed the charger and tried again, still nothing. Then i removed the backside to get access to the battery. I removed the battery and tried connecting just the charger.
That causes the laptop to start for 2 seconds like normally, the fans start for like 1 second and then just shuts down and the start button wont work again. This happens every time I connect the charger and it's off battery.
Sometimes when I press the start button and works and starts like it should and then at a random time it shuts down once again. Mostly it just doesnt react to the start button.
I haven't replaced or modified the original hardware.

Dec 28, 2009I was playing a game of borderlands online and its started off running fine and then after about 20 seconds started lagging badly and then froze.
I assumed it was some kind of network connection problem considering i was playing the game fine a few days earlier. Well i forgot about it for a few days.
I just downloaded the battleswarm beta and was playing it and noticed it did the exact same thing, ran fine for about 20-30 seconds started lagging badly then just froze. I went back and tried borderlands in single player to confirm the problem and it also did the same thing.
Acer :: Travelmate 5520 Turns On & Off Every Few Seconds
Apr 12, 2009Acer ASPIRE 5520 Model ICW50. When I press the power button the light comes on and the fan spins but it shuts down every few seconds and repeats this action continuously. I have narrowed it down to a faulty motherboard. Has anyone been able to isolate the cause of this problem to a component or components on the motherboard?

When i try to turn the laptop on (with or without battery) it turns on and starts it's usual boot up process, but then turns its self off after a couple of seconds.
