What is the equivalent for the Mac OS X on a Macbook Pro?
I'm going RAID 0 with my new 1730, and will be going 2 X 160GB in RAID 0.
The question is will windows defrag tool, know how to properly handle the 1/2 and 1/2 file fragments on both drives?
I would assume that it would, by simply moving a fragment and it's assosiated 1/2 on the other drive to the same spot on both disks? Or would it not?
If it's not, what defrag tools are RAID 0 compatible?
A serious question when you consider VISTA's "advanced" or more correctly "complicated" page/swap file use and RAID 0. The way I see it, is under defragmentation a raid configuration could be realy hurt by fragmentation as you effectively double the normal rate of fragmentation in a RAID configuration.
I've been using RmClock to undervolt my Dell Inspiron E1505 for awhile under Windows XP and its been great. But recently I went from XP to Windows 7 32bit, it stopped working. It'll just run the default voltages. I've tried running it under administrator and Windows XP compatibility mode but still doesn't work. I was wondering if anyone knows how to make it work under Windows 7 32bit?

i have encountered another bug aside from gpu boost issue, which is currently still unresolved. Fan speed control is not going idle on 7720 SE, even when temps are very low (below 40c)... on A12 BIOS, Â I have to restart my laptop to be able to switch to FAN Idle speed again. These are temps iam having and fans are still on.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe few programs that I know that detect fans won't even show a fan on my laptop, nor does it show on my Friend's G60 (or whatever the silver one is, I don't remember it exactly).
Mines isn't broken or anything,
is there any way to control the fan speed of this lap top?
I have tried speedfan, rivatuner, even tried the undervolting option with RMClock (no success - the CPU was running at the lowest voltage already).
One option did present some signs of activity - Acer Asprie One (!) Fan Control utility. However, it only switched off the fan completely. Besides that, it was quite unstable and sometimes forgot to turn the fan back on after the threshold of temperature was crossed again.
By the way: computer doesn't get hot at all. The feel is quite cool, as Speedfan utility indicates these temperatures:
GPU: 41C
HD0: 36C
Temp1: 54C
Core0: 30C
Core1: 27C
It appears that I love this lap top almost for everything, except its loud operating sound.
I am running at:
ACER 5739G
Vista 32 bit,
Chipset: Intel PM45
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T6600
GPU: GeForce GT 130M
Today I got my HP EliteBook 2530p in "FU432EA" configuration. It was important for me to have an optical drive, so i chose the configuration with the 120 GB 1,8" HDD.
The 2530p looks great so far and performs pretty well... If there weren't the extremely annoying noises coming from the notebook.
The HDD with its 5400 rpm (it's a Samsung HS122JF, very slow btw, not really faster than 4200 rpm drives) makes a clearly audible, very high frequency noise and turns on/off every 30-60 seconds resulting in clicking sounds. I can live with that for the moment, because I'll upgrade to some SSD in the near future.
But the second annoyance is the fan inside the laptop. Even when idling in windows with temps below 50 °C the fan turns on every few moments. Unfortunately I haven't been able to control the system fan or even read the actual speed. I tried Notebook Hardware Control, SpeedFan and HWMon, but neither of them reported me anything about the fan. I tried undervolting the CPU with RMClock (which doesn't really support the new Penryn CPUs) and got a few degrees less, but this wasn't enough to keep the fan quiet. In the BIOS there are no options regarding the fan, only some "keep fan always running on AC power", which I disabled.
well last night and this morning i was busy making my self a home made cooling pad, with some crap laying around the house. I don't know if there is already one but i'll put this one up. I will upload pictures tomorrow. The total project was about 1 hour and cost less than $10. It also has a speed control which is cool (it is built on my ac/dc adapter so you will make yours). My mother-tongue is not English but French, so excuse the words i might use or not use. Also their are some tools i couldn't translate the name, but when pics are up I'm sure you will know..................

I have had this laptop for about a year now and ever since I bought it it has had major throttling issues while gaming. I have tried many ways to make it run cooler with no such luck (It runs at about 95*C when playing most games) . The fan never runs at 100%, only aboout 70% (from what I can hear) so I was wondering if their was a way I could control the fan in order to run it at 100%.
Is it possible to control the fan speed on my Acer Aspire 7736Z-4088 laptop? If so then how is it done?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have changed my dell studio 1535 motherboard after ordering a refurbished one from dell. When reconnecting all the parts, everything worked well except the control media button <Previous Track> which was lighting up by itself from time to time.
I unplugged the media control panel, plugged it up again. This time the media panel is lighting up intermittently and the laptop cooler is at maximum. Unplugged again, a cable pin was short circuited and got broken in the process :(.
Fixed the cable, now the media control panel is completely down and the cooler runs at maximum speed. Removing the media panel fixes the cooler issue.
As I am not an expert into this, I was wondering if changing the panel will fix my problem or the faulty connection could have broken the motherboard control panel circuit.
PS. When running diagnostic via F12 key, no faulty issue is detected.
I have HP ENVY 15-j101ex NB. I installed UBUNTU and everything on the Hard disk deleted, Can i restore the windows 8.1 OS and How ? The Notebook still on the Warranty...

questions:
1) Is there a rmclock equivalent for osx for undervolting the cpu?
2) Is there a program in osx that allows recording gameplay footage?
3) And lastly, the 17 inch base model includes a 2.66ghz cpu but I couldn't find out what model it was exactly. Anybody know what the model number is and the specs on it? (l2 cache, etc)
I bought my M90 2 years ago when it was favourable in comparison to the then top of the line XPS. I preferred the screen and it looked much better IMO. So, now I'm looking for a new machine possible. Is there anything comparable to the 1730 in the Precision line?

I use both mac at work and pc at home and there's a few applications for the pc that I miss a lot in the mac, so this thread would be for people to say which application of one platform they are missing on the other and also to say what they found. View 10 Replies View RelatedI am planing to buy a new laptop at the end of august and right now I am planning to buy the macbook pro 15 inch with all the hardware specifications to their highest. As you might know, this will cost me about 4000 Canadian dollars. Now since this is a lot of money I need to make sure that it is well worth it so I have been trying to find a PC equivalent to a macbook pro in order to compare the two laptops and which is relatively small, has very good hardware and a long battery life I have not found anything that comes even close! so my questions is, do you guys know any pc laptops that can match the macbook pro?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just wanted people's opinions on how they compare the two model lines, and whether or not they would make the upgrade. The specs of my MBP are:
C2D 2.53 Ghz
500GB 7200RPM HDD
4GB DDR3 1066 MHZ RAM
512MB 9600mGT w/ 9400m Integrated Graphics
Performance wise, I havent been disappointed with the laptop, but one of the main drawbacks I see in the machine is its battery life - Apple has taken strides in improving battery life over 2009-2010, and its kinda annoys me that I'm stuck with the battery I have now.
I commute a lot to/from school, work on the bus/train, and have to use my laptop in places where power outlets are not readily available (some lecture rooms). Realistically, I get about 3-3.5 Hours with screen brightness on minimum, wifi and bluetooth turned of, and doing some basic word processing, as well as reading pdf's.......

View 7 Replies View RelatedAs I've previously posted, my M1730 developed a problem with it's pair of 8800M GTXs back in September. After weeks and weeks of no service call happening, Dell finally agreed to refund me the full price of the laptop. When the money was received, I turned around and handed it right back for a M17x that I received a good quote for. When I ordered in earlier this month, I was told that there was a delay on a component and the estimated delivery date given was the 13th of January. Since I'd had no gaming laptop since September, I didn't really mind. I was checked the Order Status tool every day, but there was no change in the EDD.
On Friday December 11th I receive an email from Dell/UPS stating that they planned to deliver my laptop on Friday December 18th between 09:00 and 18:00. I checked the Order Status tool and it showed my laptop status as changed to 'Shipped.' Excellent! The email contained a UPS tracking code which was recognised on their website. The status was 'Billing Information Received' which means that they know there's a package to go somewhere, but they don't have it yet. Or so I've since been told.
Can you guess where this is heading? Friday 18th comes and goes and I've not received a laptop. I stayed in all day, most hermit-like, so there's no way they missed me. No card. Finally called UPS and they say that they haven't received the laptop yet.
So I checked the Dell Order Status page again and it definitely states that it shipped on the 11th. So where did it go? I don't mind waiting. I do mind waiting indoors for something that's not coming. Dell have also changed their 'Contact Customer Care' policy and there are no longer any phone numbers listed for them. It's now email only with a 24 hour response time.
This notebook has been out for a while, and I’m sure the stuff I want to do now have already been done. So…I’m hoping for some good answers, so I can pursue the things I want to do with my old trusty. Considering I don’t have any other CPU right now, please leave out the pin mod option at this time. I’m trying to work with what I have right now,
First I would like to “Overclock” the CPU (Pentium M 740), so let me know when, what, where and which programs you’ve used to overclock this particular model. Will do the overclocking first, to see if I want to shell out something on a Pentium M 770
Now that the most important part of what I want to do is out of the way; would an x1800 work in my notebook?
Recently installed 7 and am wondering which aspects (if not all) of Control Point I should download
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was using I8KFanGui for a long long time to control the fans and it was doing a fine job. But it sort of stopped working after I installed Windows 7 RC2 as it can only force both the fans to run at high speed.
The manual option to run the fans at low speed at all times and automatic settings don't work anymore.
I tried speedfan too but the option to turn on Dell settings is not working either. The fans turn on only after the CPU goes above 65C or so.
So, wondering if anyone else using Win7 on this laptop and able to control the fans. BTW, there are absolutely no other problems and it runs smoother than the XP days .....
Its my first post and i've tried searching but cannot find the info i'm after. I got my Studio XPS13 today and installed Windows 7 64 Bit on it. I have installed all the drivers ok but i cannot get the connection software anywhere to use the WWAN.
Maybe it's late and i'm missing it somewhere but would anybody be able to point me in the right direction.
i just recently bought an acer 8930g laptop, when i log into msn the synaptic tool crashes causing the scroll on the touchpad to stop functioning, however i have uninstalled the touchpad diver and got another from manufacturs website and installed it, it still doesnt seem to solve the issue, i have done a system restore, that didnt help either.
i think its msn that causes it to crash but not 100% sure tho as i have tried to test to see what causes it to crash, i did this by loggin into msn out of 10 times about 7 of the time it crashed, so am pretty sure its msn, maybe i might be wrong and please correct if i am.

I contact you because I bought a Dell Studio 1735 a while ago and since I dont like Windows Vista I changed the OS to XP. Reading this forum I managed to make everything work, Wifi, TouchPad, Video, Sound which was a Sound Blaster Audigy not the one that comes in the Std Studio model and everything else BUT the remote control.
I installed the drivers for the IR port from [url]and it says the device is working properly, yet the remote is not functional.
Has anyone been able to make the device work under XP?
I have installed Xp in bootcamp and installed the driver , everything worked fine, but the area above the keyboard gets quite hot.
So i downloaded "Lubbo's MacBook Pro Fan Control" but when i extract the zip and click on the LubbosFanControl.exe i get an error in profile , how do i install , what am i doing wrong.
