Dell :: [?]E1705 : How To Control Fans In Windows 7
Aug 1, 2009
I was using I8KFanGui for a long long time to control the fans and it was doing a fine job. But it sort of stopped working after I installed Windows 7 RC2 as it can only force both the fans to run at high speed.
The manual option to run the fans at low speed at all times and automatic settings don't work anymore.
I tried speedfan too but the option to turn on Dell settings is not working either. The fans turn on only after the CPU goes above 65C or so.
So, wondering if anyone else using Win7 on this laptop and able to control the fans. BTW, there are absolutely no other problems and it runs smoother than the XP days .....
Monitoring Notebook Temps: nVidia & ATI, CPU, HDD - Do your temps worry you?
and other posts with people having overheating problems with their XPS's. I blew some canned air in through the vents to clear it and it helped a lot, but i still had a tech comeout to take it apart and they put new fans and a heat sink in. I want to check their speed and make sure they're working right before i stress the system, theyre much more quiet t han t he old ones i cant really tell if theyre working right
i tried both speedfan and rivatuner, neither one shows any data on fan speed or anything.
what am i doing wrong, is there some setting im missing? i checked a bunch of the plugins w ith rivatuner but didn't see anything, and speedfan shows nothing at all. how can i check their speed?
Does anyone else running Windows 7 experiencing slower fans? My laptop is getting hotter, which is alarming.
The BIOS with A12 should not have been affected during the change and I have the Dell OEM for Windows 7...drivers work fine, but just in case I'm asking here.
I also got a compatibility error when I tried to install the nvidia driver for my 8400GS with Windows 7 64-bit
I have a 2012 envy 15 with Win8.1 Update 1 and a few days ago, i noticed that there was a newer version of my graphics card so I decided to update it.
After the installation, the computer screen became black and I only was able to see the mouse pointer, So i waited for almost half hour and then decided to turn of my computer. I restarted it and it kept seeing a black screen (the windows logo appeared during the boot).
As I couldn't do anything with my computer, I decided to Refresh it in hope that it will return to a good state. During the refreshing the pc restarted but the power light started blinking , like the computer was at Sleep, and when the refresh finished, the screen was good, but the light kept blinking.
I tryed to shutdow the computer but when i turn it on again I didnt ear the Cd rom making the usual noise and the lights where blinking.
So i decided to maybe put it in sleep, but when i tried it, the computer screen when black for a few seconds and the pc went wake immediately, and when i try to put it to sleep again, the Sleep option was gone.
Then I thought that something went wrong with the refresh , so i clean install windows from a bootale usb drive since the CD wasn't working..
But that didn't work either, and to make things worst all my computer fans stopped working. So now I end up with a pc with a clean win8 install, the power lights keep blinking (both power button and the side light), no ability the sleep the computer, no cd drive and no fans..
I ran Win7's Upgrade Advisor and got a couple flags on Inspiron 9400's hardware. But I've heard that people have nstalled Win7 on them (with mixed results).
A couple reports on graphics malfunctions, and someone said the Sigmatel drivers were not found.
I wouldn't bother, but I have a couple development projects that require Win7.
Wondering if anyone has had good luck with Win7, and whether there are certain things to watch out for. All drivers work OK? Did you install 32-bit or 64-bit?
I contact you because I bought a Dell Studio 1735 a while ago and since I dont like Windows Vista I changed the OS to XP. Reading this forum I managed to make everything work, Wifi, TouchPad, Video, Sound which was a Sound Blaster Audigy not the one that comes in the Std Studio model and everything else BUT the remote control.
I installed the drivers for the IR port from [url]and it says the device is working properly, yet the remote is not functional.
Has anyone been able to make the device work under XP?
I have installed Xp in bootcamp and installed the driver , everything worked fine, but the area above the keyboard gets quite hot.
So i downloaded "Lubbo's MacBook Pro Fan Control" but when i extract the zip and click on the LubbosFanControl.exe i get an error in profile , how do i install , what am i doing wrong.
after a while of being happy dual-booter, I am now having heat problems with W7- temps stay at 2k rpm if I don't do smcfancontrol restart trick, how to control fan under W7?
Has anyone had an issue where the ALS suddenly stops working under Windows 7? I've checked BIOS settings, tried seemingly every combination of driver uninstalls/reinstalls, confirmed that both the Dell and Microsoft ambient light sensor services are enabled and running (and tried disabling, one, the other, and both) and have not had any luck. Unlike some other posts I found on here with the same-body Lattitude models, I can control the backlight manually with both the keyboard and software - it is only the ambient sensor that does not work.
I have recently installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Inspiron 9400 and I am having problems with the fans kicking in at full blast and when I check the cpu usage, it stays around 100%.
I am running on a C2D T7400 processor with the Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 graphics card.
I thought it was a driver related problem, so, made sure to install all correct drivers and also install the BIOS A10 update .....
I Have a HP DV6T QUAD and reinstalled Windows 7. When I touch the volume on my keyboard to increase or decrease the volume, it would appear on the screen for 1 second. Now after reinstalling, it doesn't show on the screen anymore when I touch the volume increase decrease on my laptop.
Product Name: HP Pavilion DV7-1261wm Product Number: NM295UA#ABA OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
My computer gets all current HP/Microsoft updates automatically. My volume control moves up and down automatically. I can choose mute and it will not stay muted. I have turned off my built-in microphone. I had to unistall my HP SmartMenu controls because the buttons wouldn't respond and the on-screen volume display would activate every time the windows volume control would move causing me not to be able to play any games. I have ran MSE and MalwareBytes and have not found any viruses or ad/spyware that is causing the trouble. I don't' know what to do..I really don't want to have to go through the process of windows re-install or game re-installing.
I have installed Windows 8 on a HP dv6-6096 nr which I purchased in may 2011. I did an upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium. Every time, I hightlight control panel, the machine reverts back to the desktop. How do I fix this?
I thave updated my video drivers. I an't tell waht other devices are not usiable in Windows 8.
I figured that I can go a clean install and all should work but I don't know if I can re-install under Windows 8.
Here is an update:The HP dvd6-6096nr used NON-STANDARD function which folks at HP, Microsoft and Microcenter have been made aware of. So the ways to get into Safe mode, Shift F8 is the easy way. For me, that doesn’t work. Using Windows key +x, lets me run msconfig.Using msconfig and booting into safe mode, action center tells me that I need to install 3 drivers: (Intel Bluetooth wireless driver, HP power management and Intel wireless display). Those were installed.I rebooted the machine, Control panel still crashes.Rebooted into safe mode, action center still shows that I need to install these 3 drivers.Since Microsoft makes it nearly impossible to boot windows to update drivers, that is where I am at. My choice is (1) install Windows 8 (not upgrade) or forget about Windows 8. The problem is (1) will Windows 8 re-activate and if other licensed software will re-install?
Because of a virus, I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I have gotten everything else working except the fingerprint reader.I have installed the Validity Fingerprint Reader driver from the Dell Support site. The fingerprint reader shows up in the Device Manager. However, the Biometric Devices applet doesn't appear in the Control Panel.
I tried letting Windows update detect the fingerprint reader. It installed a driver for a Synaptics device. This was enough to get the Biometric Devices applet to appear in the Control Panel. However, when I tried to configure the fingerprint reader, I got an error saying no fingerprint management software was installed. I have seen lots of posts online directing me to validityinc.com for drivers or the DigitalPersona software, but Validity Inc. seems to have gone out of business. The DigitalPersona software is available on the Dell Support site for my service tag.
I have even tried installing the Windows 8 Validity Sensor Driver for my laptop, but though it successfully installs, it produces the same results.
i have a hp dv5t running windows 7. i already downloaded the plugin (Controlling iTunes with laptop media controls when iTunes is minimized?) and i am running itunes 9, but it doesn't work
I have just installed Windows 8 onto my T510i but I am unable to control the Bluetooth Radio. It seems to be constantly on.
If I press FN+F5 nothing happens (not even flight mode)
I have downloaded and installed all the drivers and software that I can from the Lenovo support website. Is there any thing I can do so that I can turn the Bluetooth radio on and off....
I have a Studio 15, and I have a USB laptop fan made by Rocketfish, that one of my friends gave to me. I wanted to know if anyone here thought using a fan would be a good idea with a laptop...
is it really THAT much more beneficial? If I have my laptop just sittting on the desk plain and simple.
So I've had my XPS Gen 2 which I've taken good care of for about 3 years now. Lately, I've been paying a bit more attention to my fan noise. It seems louder than when I first got the laptop, could be just me. And I know it can't be the infamous core2duo motherboard problem that the new laptops have since this is a 2.26 Pentium M.
So I'm wondering if replacing the two fans with brand new ones would minimize the fan noise and maybe even help with cooling (not that the current ones aren't doing their jobs). What do you guys think? And if you do suggest that buying new fans will solve noise problems or lessen noise problems, what is the part number? Or, is there a good alternative to buy the fans? (Ebay is a bit shaky since you get cheap imitations sometimes, but hey, it could work.)
