I was a happy owner of my XPS M1530 for almost 10 months in a row now. I had a luck and received M1530 with LG Philips LCD -what a joy.
Unfortunately LCD backlight started to dim out and I had to call Dell Czech for a replacement.
I requested to replace my faulty LCD with the same type (LG Philips) and CSR guy told me that's not a problem ordered one for me and the next day service man arrived. Replaced my faulty LCD no questions asked. Before he left I asked him if it is really LG Philips as I requested because the new one had quite less contrast and the viewing angle was also somehow diferent. We found out that the new one is manufactured by Optronics and is grainy.
Found a comparison pic on the internet: Grainy of the left, LG on the right
Well I am not happy with this one, it is much worse LCD than LG was. Called to Dell asked for immediate replacement. CSR guy told me it is not possible as Dell does not quarantee ANYTHING - check out our terms of sale. Did you get WXGA+ 1440x900? If so then don't complain was his answer.
I requested to put into my CRM that I am not satisfied with the new one and that I feel cheated as I was promised LG LCD over the phone. CSR guy promised to pass this info to his supervisor and that he will call me back. Two days passed no-one called and I am gonna call them on Monday again .....
I purchased my dell laptop sxps 1640 in Feb and till now..it is getting lot pf problems...
1st time - Around 2 weeks back - My Motherboard, DVD burner and Palmrest was replaced
2nd time - 1 week back - Palmrest was again replaced
3rd time - This time - They said that they will replace Palmrest, Motherboard, LCD, Power Adapter..
Considering getting a new laptop. Was pretty much sold on the m1530. Now the 1640 is a contender. Main use of laptop will be for watching movies, web surf, multimedia/web design etc..., casual gaming and lastly school/study. These are the two spec setups I've been looking at. Obviously the 1640 would be quite a bit more $. Is the RGB LED LCD really worth it? I am sure movies would look sick on it but is it really that much of an improvment compared to the high res LED option on the m1530? How does the ATI compare to the NIVIDA in this case?
I currently have a great XPS 1530 with a T9300. Dell was having 25% off over the weekend and I have a EPP code through my company giving me a total of 32% off. So I decided to make the move to the 1640. I was a little frustrated with my 1530 as I could not clock the RAM to 800 eventhough I had purchased it from dell AS AN UPGRADE!! haha. I was disapointed with the graphics card as well, 256mb of ram just isnt enough to get me through the day, I also ordered the 1080p screen which the 8600gt just couldnt really handle even when scrolling media loaded webpages.
I ordered my 1530 originally with the 256gb Samsung SSD. Let me tell you, lightning fast...
My question to you guys is... I ordered the RGBLED 1080p screen but while configuring my hard drive options for the 1640, I was unable to choose the 256gb SSD as an option, so im going to swap the 500gb 7200rpm drive with the SSD. Coupled with the T9900 and the 4670, 4gb ram.. Is this thing going to be a beast or just a little faster?
Here are the specs from my 1530:

I honestly cannot make my mind up on what laptop to go for. I am actually agononizing over this and any help would be greatly appreciated. What would you guys do?
This is my XPS M1530 SPEC: ...
I'm wondering how old your laptop was when Dell replaced it with another under warranty? I bought my E1705 in April 2006 with 4 yr in-home service and complete care accidental replacement coverage. My E1705 is currently mangled after several repair attempts, the parts they used were physically damaged or defective and my video card was downgraded (GeForce Go 7900 to Radeon X1400) and I can't even run any 3D applications or games anymore
View 10 Replies View RelatedDell is sending a replacement for my latitude d630. Does anyone know if they are still shipping d630s or will I have a different model sent to me? My d630 is about 2 years old, if it is another d630 do you think there will be any differences in the tech specs
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty disappointed since the whole reason I bought this computer was for photo editing and the RGB Led screen was just perfect. But the Dell rep tells me that they are no longer offering that screen and that they will be sending me a 15.6 inch WLED.
They are still checking with the dispatch people to make sure that they aren't shipping the RGB Led, but I was wondering what my options were? I'm tempted to ask Dell to give me the Studio 17 instead, since it seems to be one of the last Dell computers to offer the RGB Led.
dell decided to replace my notebook from my sig, so I will get a new one. But they're going to replace it with the same item... Can't I call back tomorrow and ask dell to replace it with another system?
Like an XPS 420 or M1330?
my 9400 was overheating badly, and the screen was blacking out etc.
dell decided to replace the system
i receive an old crusty 9400 from the depot that looks like someone had used it for a place to set their coffee for a while, and the outer shell cosmetics are chipped, scratched, and generally low quality.
but, thats not my real issue....this laptop has an X1400 card in it.
my original system had a 7800 card.
i didn't think this was a "like-for-like" replacement, so i escalated my case. the supervisor i spoke with didn't understand what the issue was all about i guess, cause she kept telling me that i received the SAME laptop as a replacement
she even got some guy from tech support on the phone with us to have him verify the specs between the 2 cards....but after about 20 minutes of him saying that my replacement system has the IDENTICAL card in it as the original. (7800 and X1400 are different....thats why they have different names and part numbers...)
anyways, i asked that the tech support guy get the actual card specs for each one out so he can see that the 7800 is 256 dedicated memory and X1400 has only 128 dedicated memory.
he puts us (yeah, the supervisor lady is still hanging out on the phone cause she says she can't request another replacement until she gets verification from tech support that the cards are in fact different...so much for knowing anything about these products).......anyways, we're on hold for about 5 minutes, we hear a click, and then he's gone.
this was horrible and amazing at the same time because the supervisor lady started saying "hello?...are you there?....HELLO?....tech support are you on the line?"...so i guess she got to see how wrong an frustrating dell customer service can be
horrible because she's like "well, let me got ahead and dial back into the tech support queue so we can get another rep...". i said no, she should work it out with the proper department and get back to me, cause it'd had been almost a full hour at this point.
so my question is, is there something special i need to say to get them to understand that an X1400 card is not comparable to a 7800 card? i remember seeing people posting on here with a similar situation a while back, but i can't find those old threads. as an aside, the laptop is still under the original 3 year warranty as well as complete care.
I had a 1680x1050 Glossy LCD (SEC3350). I called up and Dell, jumped through the hoops and eventually had them send me a replacement LCD. I called the tech this morning and asked him who manufacturer was, he said LG..
I was ecstatic. In my excitement forgot to check that the sticker on the LCD infact said WXGA+ across the front.
Dell replaced my WSXGA+ screen with WXGA+
The screen quality itself is really good, but there are two things I'd like clarified before I place my replacement order again.
so i replaced the 80gb Seagate Momentus 7200.3 with a WD5000BEVT
(WD Scorpio Blue 500gb). The problem that i have is simple, its not working.
The Bios is detecting the new HD correctly and the new WD harddrive also
passed the DELL diagnostic test.
But when i try to restore a Backup or install a new OS, the menues
freeze where i have to access the harddrive.
I also tried to download the WD diagnostic tool but when i run that it is freezing at the beginning when it says "DR-DOS booting".
Can someone tell me if it is a bios or chipset related probem or do i need
a replacement for the new WD harddisk. Has someone ever tried replacing
the original hd with a 500gig one?
I just got my Dell back with a replacement MB and GPU due to failure... I used to run Wow smoothly with medium/high settings 50-60 fps,
now I am getting like 10-12 fps! My 3DMark 2006 scores went down almost a thousand points (from about 2K to 1.1K).
Same drivers from the nVidia site179.28, and I just updated to 179.48.
I know the Laptopvideo2go's might be better, but I was running the ones from nVidia before the swap.
I was thinking that a list with people who got an M17x as a system replacement for the M1730 will be very useful for some of us.
That being said, I want to know what configuration you had before and what you got. Country is also important, so please note this as well.
just got my less `than a year old` 9400 back from dell repairs UK
they relaced the m/board and 7900gs, but with a crappy x1400
When i rang dell, tech says we dont have any gs`s and we dont know if we will be getting any. but we got it going did`nt we? so its fixed!
Do they still make 7900gs?
recently had my dell xps m1530 motherboard and graphics card replaced by dell,
Since then, whenever I turn it on I get a message saying " the charger is only a 65w and your battery requires a 90w charger ",
Just before my laptop died and I called dell to come and fix my laptop, I was getting the exact same inconsistent framerates in games like l4d, Where i would usually get around 60+ fps, I was now only getting extremely inconsistent 25+ max fps..
Dell has not informed me to return my Inspiron to them. Customer Service & Tech Support did not tell me to do this and I did not receive a return shipping label or any kind of paperwork to facilitate a return of the old device....so....
what do I do????
She's been getting a message when she turns it on that the battery has lasted as long as it can last and need to be replaced but she NEVER unplugs the system (
It's a 17" desktop replacement so she can sit in the kitche. (lolstereotypes))
My dad told her that it now wont turn on because the battery final bit the dust but it wont turn on plugged in.
It wont turn on without the battery in it either when it's plugged in. My dad ordered her a new battery she doubts it will fix it
Does anyone know which screens/laptops are compatible?
If there is a large range of screens that will fit I will most likely just buy a broken laptop with a good screen to fix it.
The service tag is 9TCL14J
So the technician successfully replaced my video card and everything was great and fine with the world. I tried it out on Call of Duty 4 and checked the temps which peaked at a MUCH lower level so I thought I was good to go and I was happy. The only problem I had was a small amount of choppyness in the game, but I just figured I had the settings too high and I had not overclocked it at all. No problem.... So now today I wanted to play good old Oblivion and I figured this would need some overclocking because well....its Oblivion. So I start up ATI Tool and overclock it to around 620 mhz core and 720 mhx memory...Not too much overclock considering some of you have got yours to like 650 or higher and 800 in the memory department... Well I was just about to start playing when after the game loads there is no character on the screen just grey lines... So I figure maybe I overclocked it to much? I turned it down about 10 to 20 mhz and I still had some artifacts? I pretty much turned overclocking so far down I would now consider it slightly pushing the card. So I try to play oblivion and it is really choppy. Before I got this new card I had some pretty bad heat problems and crashing because of it, but I could overclock it to a MUCH higher level than that of this non heat problematic card?
So my question to all of you highly intelligent and knowledgeable people of this forum is do I have a bum card or is something else the matter? Sorry for such a long post I just felt my story needed to be fully explained so I could receive the best support...
My screen went black. Did some research and found it it was most likely the inverter.
I replaced the inverter but it still flickers and then goes black while its booting up.
How can I tell if this is the back light or if this is the lcd itself? I've heard the backlight is hard to replace and I might have to take it somewhere to have it done which would cost $$ .....
I just got done swapping the motherboard of a totaly dead D630 laptop, and to my amazement, the new motherboard dell sent me has a bad dock port!
I double checked to make sure I connected everything up right.
Has anyone else seen this? It's very fustrating. I have seen this before with a couple D620 motherboards
I have a problem with my E1405 with its lcd backlight turned off about 1 second after opening the lid.
I can still see Windows running when I look really closely.
According to what I've read it's most probably a faulty inverter. So I bought a replacement off eBay and installed it
They gave me a 7900GS instead of a 7950 GTX. I know some of you have had the same problem.
Everything else is fine, I could care less. But, I really feel that I should have gotten the GTX instead. Two Questions:
1) How minimal is the downgrade from 256mb 7800 GTX in my old M170 to a 256mb 7900GS? How big is the difference in the 7900GS vs the 7950GTX?
2) For those of you who have gotten this problem, how did you go about getting the card switched? Did they send a new system? I'd rather they just send the card and I'll swap it out myself.
The replacement was approved on the 8th, and I just got it today. Apparantly it's a new build, not a refurb. But I want the video card that's not a downgrade.
I have a dell inspiron n5110 laptop that was recently slammed to the floor because of some crazy incident. Anyways, the screen shattered so i replaced the screen and attached the cables properly. The laptop powers on, but no display on the screen what so ever, its completely black.
I did the take out the battery and power cord, held power down for 60 sec. that was a no go
I don't know what could be the problem. I even hooked the laptop via hdmi to my tv and it works fine on the tv so i know the laptop is working. Also my warranty expired so that won't do. would really like to resolve this issue without forking over a couple hundred bucks.
I have a dell vostro 3550. I Just got my mother board replaced a few days back... But now the system starts shows vostro logo.. Then starts again... Never reaching the os selection menu..( I have a dual boot so I need to select the os to boot in)....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 1536 that I thought had a dead motherboard. I bought a 1537 motherboard, T9600 CPU & a CPU fan & heatsink. Finally all the parts showed up & I got it installed. Unfortunatly all this new hardware & still same problem. When you turn it on the media lights flash on & then off & the DVD drive makes some noise. The display doesn't turn on & no HDD activity. I know the 4G of DDR2 is good & the HDD is good as I tested them in another laptop. Any help would be helpful. I would think that I would get some HDD activity ( noise & HDD light ) if the display was dead.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI received a Latitude E6500 with a WUXGA screen with the dreaded screen brightness problems. This is the same problem discussed here:
E6500 WUXGA -
The bottom corners on mine are very dark. I had been expecting a little, and had been planning on dealing with it like I have with some laptops in the past, but it's kind of outrageous how discolored they are. Screen brightness evenness is very poor as well, with the bottom part of the screen significantly brighter.
My purchase order lists my screen as:
Module,Liquid Crystal Display 15WU+,2CCFL,Samsung Maybach/Avia
How are people getting the exact model number and part number for their displays?
At any rate, it's the bad Samsung kind of screen. A lot of threads including the one I linked to state that there is also an LG/Philips screen that is much better for the same Dell WUXGA screen component.
Has anyone managed to get Dell to change a Samsung screen for an LG/Philips? If so, how did you do so?
My chat rep tells me that they can only replace using whatever was in the order initially.
