Dell :: Volume, Network, And Battery Icons
Jul 13, 2009Well when I started up my system all these icons were gone from the system tray. I went to properties and tried to click "show the icons all the time" but those three were grayed out.
I restarted the system and the battery showed back up but the other two didnt. So, I restarted again, and now all three are gone again. I'm guessing the only option will be reinstall OS?

Jul 31, 2013Got a the beep codes, but apparently they don't mean anything with this model.I have no POST, and it's a black screen. The LCD icons (sounds, mutes, et cetera) are doing nothing out of the ordinary. I did the LCD BIST, and the colors came up fine.

Dec 20, 2014I power on the laptop and it immediately goes to a windows is loading files screen. After it is completed it freezes for a moment before loading the blue screen where the desktop icons would normally load. Except they don't. It freezes on the blue background screen. The warranty is up and I have valuable pictures etc.. On this computer from trips and whatnot.

Jan 15, 2015I have a XPS 12 Ultrabook. Recently the icons, taskbar, etc have started flashing. When this happens I can't do anything as it won't allow it. It makes it useless as you cannot click on anything to open or use it. It's very frustrating as I use this for writing and editing photos. Why is it flickering and rendering it useless?

Apr 17, 2008and there is another issue regarding memory running low, i'm running on 2GB ram and after awhile of using the laptop around 1-2 hours it will prompt memory low issues.. but the weird thing is i run only the standard program like MSN and OPERA .. any solutions? sorry for the lack of information but this only what i get off.. if you need extra info i'll be glad to post it up.

Jun 15, 2009I have BootCamp configured and my HD is partitioned into two. In Leopard, I display the Hard disk icons on the desktop, but now I have the Windows hard disk too, which is annoying. I never use it and it's annoying. If I go to the finder settings and turn off the "display hard disk" setting, all my HD icons disappear, even the Macintosh HD one. How can I remove only one HD icon (the Windows HD)?

Feb 13, 2009I just got my new hp pavillion dv7-1000, it loaded up and i did all the registration stuff before you actually get to using the laptop but as the vista desktop loads up i closed to lid and it put the laptop on standby.
Now when i try to turn the laptop on i get to the log on screen, put in my password, it loads up and then i get a blue screen with my mouse cursor but no desktop icons or anything. I can still do control-alt-delete but i just cant see any of the other stuff.
I then booted in safe mode and i could then see everything but it looked like windows 98 not vista,

Dec 14, 2010My computer freezes all the time. Everytime i turn it on it runs about 5-10 min and then it freezes. The screen is not black and I can still move the mouse but I can't press on any icons or do anything. I have tried to scan the computer for virus and run other test, but usually the computer freezes before it is done.

Jul 21, 2014For various reasons, I had to perform a complete reinstall of Windows 8.1 on my W530. Now, after updating the system with the Lenovo System Update app, all the icons on the desktop (laptop screen, not external) are considerably larger than before the resintall. This includes the task bar, etc.. as a matter of fact, it appears that I've lost a lot of real estate within apps as well, and everything generally appears to be 'fat'.
I have the screen resolution set to 1920 x 1080.
I am using the Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver dated 5/16/2014.
Interestingly enough, upon first boot from the rebuild (before the System Update updates) the screen was exactly as it was before. I did try to downgrade the driver to the built-in MSFT driver.. but that didn't accomplish anything.

Feb 27, 2009I bought a Vostro 1500. It has been fine and I got XP instead of Vista. 2GB of RAM.
It boots up fine with quick Dell screen, black XP start up screen with thermometer line at bottom, then light blue XP screen then Vostro.
Before the destop icons show up next after Vostro and I am all set. Now it stops at Vostro.
I can get to programs using task manager file open and browse. Not very convenient.
HP Pavilion G7-2235dx Networking :: Icons On Desktop Stopped Working / When Click On Them - It Goes Right Back To Desktop
Oct 22, 2014I have the Pavilion g7-2235dx with Windows 8.1 operating system. Nearly every automatic update messes up my ability to get on the internet. The only way I can connect is to uninstall all of the updates. The icons on my desktop also stopped working. When I click on them, it goes right back to desktop. Can't pin them to the taskbar either. The ones on the taskbar won't open by clicking on them either. Have to right click and tell it to open. Also problem getting my Norton anti-virus to open. Says it working but can't open it.

May 5, 2009I reinstalled vista and drivers and recently noticed that i have no bluetooth.
I tried to install the driver from the dell site (correct version) and when it starts it asks to activate bluetooth.
The wireless works fine and is on all the time, and i can't find bluetooth listed in device manager.

Oct 29, 2009I am puzzled to see that part of my 320 gb 7200 drive is not recognized. A right click on C drive states that I have 282 GB left out of 297GB. I do not want to move forward with my install before accounting for this space. So...anyone have any advice?
As I have a Dell Studio XPS 1640 it has a a few of Dell specific driver I must install or I wil not have certain features. I am not thinking dock here. Bios ,chipset, IDT Sc. Windows grabbed the latest driver for the Radeon 3670 but not the Catalyst SW. Nor would I want it to. Has anyone dl'd the latest Catalyst suite? Any fellow xps owners out there test driven Dell's drivers on Win 7 pro yet?
Dell :: Missing Resolutions From Call Of Duty 4
Aug 30, 2009Got my studio xps 16 yesterday, love it but have an issue. In call of duty 4 i can only seem to get a limited number of resolutions even if i change the aspect ratio from 4:3, 16:9 etc. For example i have no resolution in between 1280*1024 and 1920*1080. Need a 1600*1200 option. Changing the aspect ratio in l4d gave me more options but this fix doesnt work in cod 4.

Oct 14, 2008I have just reinstalled my laptop with Vista for the 2nd time since I purchased it.
Today had an endless BSOD of 0x0000000A and nothing I could do would get rid of it.
Everything tested out OK.
Anyway, after a fresh install and installing all the drivers I am left over with a 5880 in the device manager.

I can't seem to get rid of it. The best I could come up with was BT driver. I have installed the 370 driver twice. It working fine so I don't think it is that.
