I just purchased an Inspiron 1011 netbook. The setup guide implies that the memory is replaceable, but gives no instructions for doing so.
I'd like to upgrade from the 1 gB OE memory to 2 gB. Is this possible, or is the memory not socketed? How do I access the memory Simm?
Just for the record, the ctrl f 11th key combination does work to restore this model to factory settings. I know because I just used it. Also, I have to say, this was the best computer ever! I used this thing HARD, everyday, hours on end. And had no hardware issues at all. Never had to replace anything. It's never let me down. I had dropped it several times in the 6 years I owned it and it kept trucking right along. I only an
m restoring it because my sister bought me a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop and a Samsung tablet for Christmas and I am going to let my son have the net book now.
My qwerty keyboard is not doing or missing many of the letters in upper case - just lower case, and the letter 'L' seems to have given up completely - it will not type neither lowercase or upper case. This problem exists in what seems to be all applications.

I do a lot of photo editing and while I realize this is not a top machine for this, it works better than what I had. It now has 1G of memory in it and I think that I can up that to 2G max.
What should I be looking for and where is the best place to get it? I would like to buy local, but that may not be the best option as far as price goes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.

In a old post i read that the laptop has two memory slots, however, when i replaced the memory only see only one slot. Previusly i cheched the memory compatibility and it's acording to the specs. Now, I own a dell Inspiron 1721 and have recently bought 2 gig of ram, just to speed things up a little! However, when I recieved it, it came in two sepeate modules of 1 gig. Not to worry I thought as every website says the Dell Inspiron 1721 has 2 slots. Opening up the back of my laptop, I could only find one slot.

Then I did 'system restore', it didn't work.
I tried 'chkdsk' it didn't work
I tried 'System Repair', it didn't work either
I took out the RAMs and re-seated them, it didn't work,
Now its even worse, the PC won't even come on at all.
Every time I start my laptop Inspiron n5110, it goes to the blue error screen where it says 'collecting data for crash dump'. It usually happens in under a minute after starting the laptop. Once the screen shows I have to force restart by pressing the power key for few seconds.

I have a question about 4gb of memory on inspirons. I recently put in 4GB's memory in my inspiron (Corsair brand) and I am running XP(x86) aka 32bit. Windows sees 3.25gb's which is exactly correct.
Awhile back I read that the inspiron motherboard which is an intel, will not run the memory in Dual Channel mode, which will slow the memory down about 3-5%. However I am not sure of how true or not this is. I put the memory and checked my bios and its showing all 4GB's and "Dual Channel" enabled.
So the question is how real is this dual channel concern if the bios is saying its in dual channel mode? PS we are both running the latest bios A17.
I have a Inspiron 15 3537 laptop and I noticed that I can hear a high pitched noise where the Memory/hard drive are located. That noise is louder when I put the battery mode on "battery saving", but I still can hear that noise when the battery mode is set to other mode than that. Please note that I switched my hard drive with a SSD, because I thought that it come from here.

I have been hearing that the read/playback performance of the bluray drive on this laptop is terrible. Some say that it stutters all the way through an entire movie and it is very loud. Is this true? My second question is about the $375 charge for upgrading from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM. Is it overpriced? Also, how easy is it to upgrade the RAM on the XPS 16?
