I just got a Dell Inspiron 14 7000 series (Inspiron 7447). Was using an Acer before this. My question is about the fan. Its a brand new laptop and I haven't installed anything yet. The fan is fast for no reason and doesnt stop spinning. Is this normal for a gaming laptop? I am not running anything program at all.
View 10 RepliesThe fan in my e540 does not stop once it has started spinning. This is completely independent of system temperature. Even though the temperature of the board and the cpu is below 40*C the fan won't stop.
The fan does not always spin, though. If I wake up the system from sleep or power it on, the fan does not spin and will not start spinning until a certain temperature threshold is reached. This part of fan control works correctly.
Interesting procedure: I work until the system gets hot and the fan kicks off. I want until the system is cooled down below 40*C (checked with speccy software, the air stream leaving the notebook is cold). The fan is still spinning at this point and will probably spin forever. I suspend the laptop (no complete power off required). I immediately "wake up" the laptop (system temperature did not change, no time to cool down). The fan is off again and will not start spinning until the temperature threshold is reached.
I have had a Dell Inspiron 1545 For 3 years now and Last year the motherboard failed so i had that replaced. 3 of my battery chargers have broken. My Battery Lasts a couple of seconds, Left Mouse stuck in and wont work sometimes. But the main problem is overheating recently the fan literally stopped spinning, it made some weird sounds like clashing and now it doesn't spin AT ALL. My Laptop lasts 30 minutes before overheating and turning off. Another Problem is my wireless networks!?? Sometimes my wireless networks disappear they literally disappear! it cant detect wireless signals so i have to restart my computer to fix it!

I have updated the wireless drivers Dell [Wireless 1704 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver] to this version Network_Driver_D1DJJ_WN_6.30.223.181_A00, but it still doesn't seem to work.
I don't know if it's related but I can't seem to install [Dell Wireless 1705 WiFi + Bluetooth Driver] Network_Driver_HP06Y_WN_10.0.0.276_A00, the installation is always a failure.
My touch screen has recently stopped working for an unknown reason. I looked under "Devices' in 'Device Manager' using the side 'Search' tool and I actually can't find the touch screen program anywhere. I ran a Diagnostics Test for it and it said that the device could not even be found.

Problem: I have a brand new Inspiron 1545 from Dell online. When I type text in Internet Explorer (e.g. webmail applications or this forum), even at a relatively slow speed, many of the keys don't seem to register --
that is, letters or spaces whose keys I press do not show up on the screen. As a result, I must type verrry slowly to make sure that every letter/space shows up, or else go back to re-type it. Strangely, I do not have this problem when typing text in, say, Notepad .....
My fan on the inspiron 1545 will not stop running. The laptop is quite hot. The battery from Dell died and replaced with a third party battery and adapter which have not been working well either. Battery will not charge so it is currently attached to power source at all times with the battery in the laptop.

Depending on the internet's download speed, this makes it impossible to download files larger than 25-50 MB. This problem has persisted on four different networks and in both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, so I've determined it's neither a network nor a browser issue. It started where it would only affect about 75% of downloaded files, but now it affects every single one. Although, I can still download large amounts of data through other sources (I downloaded a 25 GB game on Steam with no problem).

View 10 Replies View RelatedMy friend's macbook (white plastic, 2.0, napa/core2 before santa rosa platform) isn't starting, and I have no idea why. He initially asked me to replace the top and bottom casing. I accepted, and ordered the parts. Around the time they were supposed to come, I took the computer apart completely (required for the repair), but one of the parts was delayed, so the computer sat splayed on my desk for a week. I didn't exactly stack textbooks on it, but it also wasn't covered in anti-static wrap. So, now, I finally got the part and put it back together, and the computer doesn't start. At all. The screen doesn't go grey, the 'sleep' light doesn't turn on, the fan doesn't start - nothing. The magsafe light is green, so the power is going in. It's also worth noting that I have no battery for it, so it's all on A/C.
Does anyone know what's wrong? My two hypothetical solutions are (a) I need a battery, or (b) the logic board is dead due to static.
How likely are each of these scenarios - especially the logic board one? How possible is it that it was static overloaded?
after 2 clean installs in a row, the HD is always spinning at 7200rpm... always...
the HD blips when im actually telling somethign to use it, but not on constantaly...

I got a XPS M1730 with Dual 9800GT.
It is a great computer and I love it.
However, When I run HWmonitor, I get 73-76F at idle. And It has been running very hot..
I had this laptop for about a week and it's always like that.
So, I looked underneath the laptop and seems like the two GPU fans are not spinning at all.
Is this normal or something wrong with my unit?
Do I have to open it up and check the fan cable? Or is it something wrong with the bios? Only thing I did to this laptop is update the driver to nvidia's 185.85
Back of the laptop is so hot that I can't touch it with my hand..
I don't know what it is, or maybe its just the way the system works...
But basically, but something is constantly on even when I just have the laptop on with a few IE windows, you can especially feel it just to the left of the touchpad. From time to time, I will also hear the the noise coming from it and it till slow down, then start up again.
I mean, its not a big issue, but is something wrong with the laptop?
This happens when the CPU load is as low as just 5%, temperatures around 42-45 degrees Celsius.
Well in Vista my hdd was very quite. Now in XP it wont stop spinning. Its very annoying becouse its louder than fan. It keeps spinning and spinning. Very annoying. Its only 5400R/PM

But when it turned it on in the evening it display error message-------the system fan is not working and count down of 15 seconds untill laptop gets auto shutdown. After that i noticed that my fan is not spinning. As troubleshooting, i updated my bios, do a system restore, uninstall paragon hard disk suite which i installed in the morning thinking that it might be causing the problem. But of no use. Still the fan is not working.

thinking of deleting that partition and creating a 50gb partition for windows 7 and having the remaining hard drive as storage for an easy future formatting environment.
1) Is there any reason to keep the recovery partition and am I safe to delete it and regain my 10gb?
2) 50gb might be too much, but Im not too sure what the windows 7 fingerprint is (15gb?). What is a good OS partition size for windows 7
I just got a brand new Studio 15 laptop a couple of days ago. So far, I love it, but there's one really odd thing. All day, the mute and volume up buttons have been blinking, and the volume down button has just stayed lit. There does not appear to be any reason for them to be doing this. Also, it's not affecting the buttons' performance. Does anybody have a theory as to why it's doing this? And is there any way to make it stop?
