I am using dell inspirion n5010 i3. And i am getting problem with its touchpad . Problem is that while using the laptop, touchpad suddenly stops working but right click option continues to work but at the same time usb mouse continues to work and after pressing ctrl+alt+del and doing logout it starts working.

It doesn't matter if the AC of the laptop is connected or not, the touchpad becomes impossible to use. I tried using it in other places thinking of an energy problem at my place, but it still occurs. Other laptops work normaly with the external harddrive and the HDMI.

It frequently starts and working for 2-3 sec then again stops .. again after sometimes it gets started.... I have already opened up my laptop and cleaned all the dust ... but the story continues... should I have to replace heat-sink?

My touchpad doesn't work but the buttons are working fine. It also clicks randomly (not with the left or right mouse buttons) so I have to disable it. I have installed the latest version of the Synaptic driver and the problem still persists. I think only the touchpad is having a problem because when I use a wireless mouse, it works fine.

I have never had any major problems with this computer ever. always loved my dell. now i go to turn it on. and suddenly instead of the cute dell screen i got a black screen of death and the 7 beeps of death that woke my service dog up. now this would not be such a issue if this computer was not my actual disabled livelihood. it is no longer under warranty and of course after searching the internet it appears that dell knows of this issue with it. but it still does not see fit to recall them or replace them. of course they will charge you to turn it in and fix it temporary.

I have to be very careful because I barely touch my touchpad and the mouse will click. I have tried to figure out how to turn the sensitivity down but I cannot find it in the devices. It tells me no devices were found when I click on the mouse folder. I have tried and tried but I cannot find anywhere to change the settings for the touchpad. when I am trying to type a paper and I look up and half my paper is in the middle of a different section or it just hasn't been typing because I have clicked out of the screen.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf anyone out there runs into an issue with the touchpad on a Sony Vaio where it suddenly stops working it may be due to static electricity. I bought a brand new VGN-NS240E (Jan 08 @ Best Buy) and while setting it up I ran into this issue and have seen many other reports on the WEB of the Sony touchpads suddenly dying. Try these steps for an easy fix:
1 - power down the unit.
2 - unplug the power adapter.
3 - remove the battery.
4 - hold down the power switch for about a minute or two.
5 - re-insert the battery.
6 - reconnect the power adapeter.
7 - power the unit on and see if the touchpad lives!
These quick and simple steps worked for me 2x. Noted on the second time it happened that I shocked the machine after walking across the carpet, that's why I said above I think its related to a static charge - bad design on this model of touch pad I suppose. I have Dell laptops and Acers never seen it before until this Sony.
Due to an update for the Bluetooth driver, my Laptop Inspiron N5010 has gone into a Repair Option Loop. I've visited many Forums where the primary suggestion is to deal with the RegBack folder, something I haven't tried just yet. Why? Because now I've a REAL Problem. I can't see (through Linux Live DVDs or Win 7 Installation DVD) the Document Folder. There's is a User Folder and a UserName Folder but no Document Folder. There's a Desktop Folder but the files that used to be there are no longer there.
I'm not sure if I really lost them (due to Update) or they're hidden by the system. I thought of removing the Hard Drive and connecting it to another PC to see if the Documents are still there but for this Inspiron, you need an Engineering Degree to remove the HD. Seems like the Tech people at Dell hate competition so they make it more difficult for you to mess with the computer.
There is no way to get into Safe Mode. The only option is using the Win 7 Home Premium Ed, go to repair option (which fails) and try the System Restore option. All ten Restoration Points failed.
I just got a Lenovo Y40 and the touchpad uses the ELAN software. I already set up two finger option to open right click (pop-up menu).

It only happens though when i view youtube videos in fullscreen or any flash video, the problems sorts it self out after a few minutes but it is very annoying.
Has anyone experienced a problem with Acer notebooks where when the user presses any key on the keyboard, the touchpad gets disabled? The 8940G we are reviewing has this problem and I have never seen this happen before. When the touchpad stops functioning the little Synaptics status thing on the taskbar still shows the sensitivity blob when you finger presses the touchpad. This tells me it is still working but something else is interfering.
I have looked around the Synaptics menu for anything relating to this feature and found nothing. I disabled the "hide cursor when typing" feature in Windows already and that didnt fix it.
I turned laptop on today and the touchpad is just not working. Has this happened to anyone else? I looked for drivers but only found vista ones which I installed but still not working. Thankfully I have a bluetooth mouse but it is not that good and I like to use the touchpad.
Using windows 7 32 bit. I might install the OS again but does this sound like a hardware failure?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have successfully installed Ubuntu on my Aspire E3 112 and after a bit of fannying around with setting a System Password in the BIOS and trusting the Grub2 EFI settings, I have a stable system that boots in to both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 with Bing.
BUT , The right click doesn't work on the Synaptic Touchpad. No matter where I click on the touchpad it is recognised as a left click.
I've tried installing the GPointing Device Setting but there aren't any config settings for right click.
I've heard that Synaptics have a product (Synaptics Gesture Suite for Linux - SGS-L) but it's only available to OEM suppliers.
I bought my Y580 about a month ago and it has been great. The only problems I've been having with it is with the touchpad. About a week ago the synaptics software on here started to shutdown at random and things like two finger scrolling and swiping from the sides would all stop working. I searched around and downloaded updated software both from synaptic's website and from lenovo driver support. The newest ones from lenovo are the only ones that don't quit at random but now the only thing that doesn't like to work still is the two finger tap to right click. Sometimes it'll work for the first ten min when I first turn the laptop on but then it'll quit. Two finger click sometimes works for right click but not always and two finger tap for right click never works any more.

If I start the laptop with headphones unplugged then there is no problem (also, when I start with the unplugged, then plug the headphones in and then unplug, the sound from the speakers is ok).
I installed the latest audio drivers and codecs. But now that I think of it, I installed latest network drivers from dell site. I have a TOSHIBA MK6461GSYN hard drive and I wonder where could I check if there is a newer firmware available? Checked Toshiba site and they had some update program but that needed a floppy drive.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchases a Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 540 and it worked just fine untill earlyer today.While i was browsing the internet, some how my touchpad developed a problem.It only registeres right click where ever i click.I've deleted the drivers, even tho they were the knewest ones, downloaded a fresh .exe and installed it after the reset and what not and it still has the same problem.
If i turn off the touchpad in the ultranav software and enable only trackapad, the buttons work like they should, the large area in the touchpad registeres as the left click and the small area in the top right is registered as the right click. Tho i can't use the touchpad for navigation.So clicking doesn't works, well neither does tapping. I can doubletap normaly, but i cannot tap and drag such as selecting a block of text.
Again, i've already tried a fresh install of ultranav drivers and it didn't work. The problem manifested itself during normal browsing, nothing was installed nor changed hardware vise. It litteraly changed in a second.how to solve it since the driver reinstall didn't work.
About a month ago my touchpad started to act up. I couldn't use the touchpad to click on anything with any consistency. I tried the reinstall of the driver but no change. I bought a new touchpad assembly and it worked perfectly for about a week. Now the pad part works but the scroll feature doesn't. When I install the latest driver from Synaptics the scroll works but the pad is erratic. I've rolled the driver back to the 2006 edition and the pad works perfectly but no scroll. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.
