I recently had to get a new hard drive for my laptop which is an Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7 and since I have gotten it back my touchpad scrolling no longer works like it did before and I cant find the setting to fix this issue.

Problem is that while using the laptop, touchpad suddenly stops working but right click option continues to work but at the same time usb mouse continues to work and after pressing ctrl+alt+del and doing logout it starts working.

It looks like this: 2small white triangles with a white line in between. Sometimes they point left and right, and my pc starts scrolling sideways, and sometimes they point up and down and it starts scrolling downwards.
I updated a lot of drivers and restarted my pc. I scanned for viruses, but nothing could be found.
It happens with or without a mouse inserted. It's really annoying, because surfing on the internet becomes frustrating.
O yeah, that pc doctor from the dell site did not find anything either.
It's a relatively new inspiron laptop (less than a year) and I have this problem since the beginning.
Yes I have scroll & zoom enabled.
I don't know what's up, it just turns off all the time. Then I have to go into the mouse settings and just re-click "apply" and it will be there again (even though it's still enabled).
Dell support is completely useless when I try to chat online with them.
I also have another issue where the top of my windows won't reach the top of my screen. There is a 0.5cm gap between all maximized windows and the top of the screen. It's just an empty space that shows through to my wallpaper. Once again dell support completely useless.
As you can see in my pic, I try to highlight the top of the screen but it just disappears.

I recently bought an Inspiron 1545 and absolutely cannot stand not being able to 2-finger scroll. The "side pad" function works poorly at best, and is so undependable that I am resorted to using a mouse whenever possible.
How on earth can I get my Inspiron 1545 with an Alps touchpad to have 2 finger scrolling similar to Mac systems? Is it even possible?
I have a Inspiron 15 Intel (N5010) laptop with Win7 64bit. when I start my computer with headphones plugged in and then unplug them, no sound comes from the speakers. If I start the laptop with headphones unplugged then there is no problem (also, when I start with the unplugged, then plug the headphones in and then unplug, the sound from the speakers is ok).
I installed the latest audio drivers and codecs. But now that I think of it, I installed latest network drivers from dell site. I have a TOSHIBA MK6461GSYN hard drive and I wonder where could I check if there is a newer firmware available? Checked Toshiba site and they had some update program but that needed a floppy drive.
Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.
Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.
At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.
I recently had my hard drive replaced and windows 7 reinstalled on my laptop. My touchpad hot key is not working now. It did before. I have Inspiron N5010.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a Dell Inspiron N5010 which comes with Free Dos without drivers. I have been trying for the last week to make the graphics card work without success. I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and I followed the Dell Support drivers page after providing my service tags. Nothing works. Windows still sees that as VGA driver with 16 Mbytes of RAM!!! Cannot have high resolution. Also, the characters and fonts looks ugly compared to my 5 year old Acer!! I also downloaded the drivers at Intel site from URL...All my attempts are in vain. I am not sure what else I can try. Windows insists that it is not compatible. On the other hand, all things work perfectly on Linux mint 11.0 but there are applications I need to run on Windows (unfortunately).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my Inspiron N5010 screen, it doesn't work when switching on my laptop on Battery or AC mode. It happens a lot of times when I turn on the laptop the power button, the power indicators at the bottom turns on normally and the laptop is running without any weird sounds. But the screen is pitch black even doesn't show up anything when I concentrate on it in with a lamp or any light.
When I press the power button again even after 5 mins from the start time of being running the laptop just turn off immediately and doesn't take time to switch off as If the windows wasn't loaded!
I was resolving this problem by disconnecting the AC adapter > removing the battery > Pressing and hold the power button for 20 seconds technique.but today it doesn't work anymore, If there's anything I can do to get the screen backlight to work normally ....
After some driver updates (Bios and touchpad) scrolling on touchpad stopped working. I also did a reinstall of the drivers.

Means that if you keep pressing any key on the keyboard except ctrl and alt keys then use the touchpad the cursor doesn't move it doesn't respond. I haven't downloaded any drivers. The problem could be settings which I don't know or drivers.

Unable to test keyboard by pressing f8 at start-up to get to a command prompt. also unable to press f6 to enable keyboard.
In windows mobility center, the 'turn on' button for the touch pad is grayed out. Is it possible that the keyboard/touch pad connections are not plugged in tightly? i don't want to to open up the laptop unless that is a good option...
My touchpad doesn't work but the buttons are working fine. It also clicks randomly (not with the left or right mouse buttons) so I have to disable it. I have installed the latest version of the Synaptic driver and the problem still persists. I think only the touchpad is having a problem because when I use a wireless mouse, it works fine.

While the charging problem is fixed, whenever I plug my computer in with this adapter, the mouse becomes erratic. I can do basic navigation, then the cursor flips out and flies over what I'm about to click, so aiming for anything is like running on ice. I read a few things online as to what this is, and wound up updating my mouse driver and BIOS, even "releasing flea power" (Either I did it wrong or it didn't work) This has done nothing for this problem. Yesterday it prompted me to install a whole crap load of uploads onto my computer.
So after the Nvidia and two others (can't remember them) I was prompted up download a new driver that would solve the problem of the scroll randomly not working.
Well they solved the random part but now it's not scrolling at all.
ON MY DV6- 1410EJ NOTEBOOK ON WINDOWS 7 64-BIT, THE SCROLLING FUNCTION OF THE TOUCHPADV6.5 HAS STOPPED AND I CANNOT SELECT THE CHECK BOX TO RESTORE IT.

Last night I switched my laptop off after using it all day for writing an essay, when I then turned the laptop back on about 3 hours later, I could no longer scroll using the touchpad. My laptop won't let me run or look at the synaptics 7.5 drivers or any of the files, as it just says they cannot be found.
I have tried re-installing the drivers, but this does not seemed to have worked.
I have bought g500 and configured the mouse settings following a post for the same problem in the forum.
It was working for the first time, but after i used external mouse , then it is not working anymore. It is not handy to always take mouse with me.
