Does the Latitude E7240 can support two external displays without a dock? Can have one plugged in to the mini displayport and one in to HDMI and output just to these displays?
Or is it limited to just the laptop display and one single external display?
I have 2 new E7420 laptops that are replacing some older ones.
When I dock either of them, all I get is a flashing cursor on either the external screens, or the laptop screen. I get the Dell logo, then just a flashing cursor on the top left of the screen.
I can turn the laptop on, wait for it to boot, then dock it, but of the 3 times I've tried that, the USB didnt work once.
Have just upgraded to the latest BIOS, but it didnt change anything.
Is there some BIOS setting or something I need to change?
We have 2 new T440p (i7 4800MQ, 16gb, ssd) which we installed with clean Win 8.1 and the newest drivers (intel hd 10.18.10.3345, nvidia 9.18.13.3182).
The laptops run on 4 ultra docks with different monitor configurations, mostly dual display, one single display, mostly samsung displays, always one display via dvi, second displays vga as we did not receive our display-port adapters yet).
In all configurations we have the same problem: Between every few seconds and about 20 minutes the external screens flicker and get rediscovered. Often this happens in Chrome or when doing some graphic-intensive stuff, but we cannot trace it down. Takes a few seconds to rediscover and all windows not in fullscreen are resized afterwards, because of display resolution detection and mostly we get the Display port new topology notification... We already tried with disabling the nvidia via the nvidia gpu settings and only using hd graphics but that didn't work.
A few years ago I had problems with my T400 discrete grafics, but then I could disable it in the BIOS which does not seem to be possible with the T440p...
I have a Dell Latitude E7240. My issue is that when it is connected to the D/Dock station, the rear USB ports are automatically disabled.
Is there a way to have them enabled while docked?
Is it possible to use two external monitors with my T440p (20AW-A08500) with Intel HD Graphics withou having to buy a dock? I normally use my laptop at home with the lid shut and two monitors attached.
I used to have X1 (still do - now up for sale) and that was happily connected to two monitors via HDMI and via a MiniDP to DVI adaptor.I wrongly assume when I bought the T440p that I would be able to somehow power my existing two monitors from the single MiniDP port.I have seen their is a Lenovo DisplayPort to DualDisplayPort adaptor - but this talks about ThinkCentre usage - no mention of Thinkpads. Plus the price of this adaptor is pretty steep.
I have a T420 that I'm using with a Mini Dock Series 3 - 90W 433710U docking station. I'm trying to connect to two external monitors (both HP 1965's) using the DVI and VGA outputs on the docking station. From the VGA output, I'm running a VGA (M) to DVI (M) into my monitor. I can only get either the DVI or VGA outputted monitors to work by themselves, but not together. When I connect both external displays, it will switch off one of the external monitors (the first one connected). Both are verified working as external monitors with the T420, just not at the same time. When using the DVI output, I can get dual monitors to work using the ThinkPad display as one monitor and the DVI-connected external monitor as the second. Is there a way to connect to two external monitors from a T420 with a Mini Dock Series 3 - 90W 433710U docking station? Or do you a multi-monitor adapater, such as an Cirago HDX3DV01 to do that?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 with an Nvidia 8600gt. I have a dell 2409 24 inch 1920 x 1080 monitor and a Samsung 22inch 1680x1050 LCD TV. I use one or the other depending what room I'm in. Both are connected using VGA cables.
These have always worked perfectly, today when I tried plugging into either one they are detected as 'generic non pnp monitor' and I get a choice of standard resolutions up to 1600 x 1200. These always used to run at their native resolutions and were detected as Samsung and Dell.
I have reinstalled the display drivers, power cycled everything, gpu seems to be running fine according to gpu-z.
I have reverted to a working backup but that made no difference. Im using windows 7 64bit.
How to set up so that tap with two fingers on the touchpad will preform like the middle button on a mouse. Can find that setting in the dell touchpad program. I am on a dell latitude e7240

Also after a time it seems to go to sleep and knocks me off VPN connection during a web presentation if I do not interact with mouse during web conf. I have to use ctl alt del to log back in but then my VPN is gone. How do I extend the time the laptop stays active?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have bought a bunch of Latitudes E7240 and deployed them with the new Dell Data Protection | Security Tools (DDP|ST).Now we have discovered that if you attempt to login with the wrong credentials the device (HDD) will be locked.This is expected as it is one of the purpose of having Disk encryption enabled BUT if a user accidentally lock the HDD by typing wrong credentials you would expect to be able to UNLOCK it with the admin password. (You create one when first enabling DDP|ST)
So, the user forgot he's credentials and the screen only shows "The device is locked, contact your administrator" and with NO OPTIONS what so ever! How do I, as the administrator unlock the HDD? Where do I type the admin password?
Original Win 8 Pro, then updated to 8.1 Pro, the back lit keyboard works OK. However since I refreshed the system due to the hangs up problem at start up, the back lit key board stops working. Re-updated the OS back to 8.1 Pro again still not solve the issue.Does the backlit key board need special driver ? The device manager shows the keyboard as standard PS2
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just gotten an E7240 computer and have noticed that the USB ports on the back of my computer are disabled when the computer is docked which is a very unfortunate feature of this new computer model. It seems there are many people posting complaints about this feature on the internet. It basically takes a computer that has 3 USB ports and makes two of them rather useless. It is very useful if a USB receiver for keyboard and mouse can be plugged in to the back of the computer so that the mouse can be used easily when docked, but also when the computer is taken off the dock to go to a meeting room. This then leaves the side USB port available for devices such as wireless projectors when in the meeting room. Although this computer was designed to behave this way, I think that most users would agree that this is a critical issue that needs to be seriously considered and fixed by Dell as soon as possible assuming that there is not already a work around available.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Latitude e7240 when docked onto the PR03X docking station, the power adapter that is plugged into the PR03X completely goes dead. The only way I can reset the power is by unplugging and replugging the AC adapter FROM THE WALL. Tried the spacer. Tried double powering (1 adapter into the PR03X and another adapter into the e7240). Also tried plugging the laptop on first without power, and when powering up the laptop, it would boot up 10x slower than normal and sometimes hang. Also tried multiple other PR03X just to be sure the one i have is not faulty. The same problem is repeatable. The laptop has the latest BIOS.
It seems there is a power mismatch of some sort that would cause a) the adapter to fail, and then b) for the laptop to run extremely slow because of what?Is the problem caused by a faulty docking port on the e7240? I assume the PR03X is compatible to the e7240??
Latitude E7240 has Touchpad Alps. All works fine except settings "Flick" (Gestures -> Multi Finger Gestures).
This setting works, but after some time (random period) stops working. To fix this I need restart Apoint.exe or go to settings, deselect Flick and select it again.
My laptop's BIOS has latest version A11 and all drivers installed from web site Dell.
Also, I tried to install Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 with touchpad drivers only, but this did not solve problem.
I've recently taken delivery of an E7240 with the FHD touch screen option. I am generally quite impressed with the laptop except for one thing, the touch screen buzzes. The sound is similar to a hard disk working, a bit random .. not a constant noise. The sound will immediately stop when I put a finger on the screen though which makes me think it's related to the touch screen itself.
Rebooting etc. makes no difference... shaking the laptop, smacking it (gently) etc. has no affect.....
I realise these laptops are new so perhaps there isn't much experience out there...
We have purchased and deployed a number of Latitude E7440's and E7240's and we are running into an issue with some of the E7240's. When waking from sleep while on battery power, the machine will start to wake, the display will come back and I can move the cursor but within a second or two, the cursor will freeze and the machine will become totally unresponsive. This doesn't happen on AC. I've set the power plan to 1 minute and tested over and over again and it is reproducible every time. The only way to recover from it is to power off the machine via the power button and restart it.
Right now this is happening on the original end-user's machine and 1 other deployed E7240 we were able to get back and test. I have a couple of other E7240's deployed and I have an email out to the end users to bring them in so we can check them too.
I've upgraded the BIOS from A09 to A13. I've tried switching wireless control from Intel to Windows. I've updated to the latest drivers on the Dell support site.

Just started using brand new Latitude E7240 and connected to E-port docking station. When booting an error pops up as below: The battery currently attached to the system will not supply enough power to dock for it to function. Please attach AC power to the dock for it to function normally

The Laptop and the dock stations are brand new. This is only happening with the 7240's.
We have several Latitude E7240's on our network. They are configured with Windows 7 x64. We have been having trouble with this particular model in regards to wireless connections.
When the laptop is powered on and the user logs in, the laptop connects to the wireless network, however it is not getting an IP address from the router. It sticks at "limited connectivity", and gives itself a "169" IP. It stays that way for about 5 or so minutes then finally connects.
The WLAN drivers are already to the latest version, and to "bandaid" the issue, I have to uninstall the Wireless NIC drivers then reinstall them.
At first I was thinking it may be a router issue (Which is a Sonicwall TZ210W), but it can't be because its wireless devices of differing models have no problem connecting and getting an IP address. Also, it starts working once the drivers are reinstalled (though I'm not confident this is a permanent fix).
All the E7240's have the Dell 1506 Wireless card, and are all and originally were) on driver version 10.0.0.268, A02. Also, I have tried turned off any power management settings of the WNIC prior to the driver reinstall.
The USB ports on my new E Port II docking are not working with my new Latitude E7240 Laptop. Full configuration of the laptop is below. Talked with Dell and they sent me a replacement docking station but the same issue surfaced. Looked at the Device Manager and no extra USB ports show up when connected to the docking station. The side laptop USB works fine when the docking station is connected.

I have a Latitude laptop as described above and for some reason it isn't detecting the SSD Drive.
It states: No Boot Device Found, press any key to reboot
I read on the Dell support website the laptop may need setting up in maintenance mode?
However after pressing alt+f at the Dell logo nothing happens it just tries to boot.
We are running more than200 dell computers in our company. lately we purchased E7240 for some users but it looks like the AC adapter does not work with the Dell E-Port docking station we have and that cause the USB hubs not to function at all.
Currently the workaround is to plug the AC adapter to the laptop instead of the docking station.
Our BIOS is updated to the latest version. also a message comes up when the ac adapter connected to the docking station before the windows boot up saying the ac adapter won't charge.....
I have a X230 (model 2357G) with a type 4338 dock. I'm currently running dual 1920x108 monitors via the dual DVI ports in the dock. But I wonder if the dual Displayports in the dock can handle something with a higher resolution like dual 3840x2160 monitors ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen one turns off the Bluetooth adapter from the tray icon, the tray icon disappears. In order to turn the BT adapter back on, it appears one must go to the Device Manager to re-enable the BT adapter. This is inconvenient and not awfully intuitive for a usual business end-user. In the past the BT icon in the tray would remain, but turn color to indicate it's off. And the end user could right-click it and turn it back on when needed.
Currently it appears, turning off the BT adapter, actually disables it and it "disappears". Is there a way to simply turn the adapter off and more importantly back on without having users get into the device manager from their standard user accounts?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use the Displaylink dock to connect to an external monitor, but it has suddenly stopped working. The error message said "check connections". I have done so - replaced the digital video cable between dock and monitor with a new one, cycled both dock and monitor on and off several times, but windows can not find an external display.
The Lenovo settings app has been giving me an "updating... " message for 3 days (I have raised a query on that elsewhere) so I can't use that to check out the display problem. I should say the display problem started today, and the "updating.."
I have recently bought ThinkPad E540 with OneLink Pro Dock, in which I have connected my LG Flatron IPS236 external display. LG's max resolution is Full HD 1920x1080, but for some reason my external display's max resolution is only 1280x1024. The display is attached to the OneLink Pro Dock's DVI port. I have both updated the graphic card's drivers and LG monitor's drivers and booted the system. I have also tried using both 75 hertz and 60 hertz refresh rates.
