View 1 RepliesAfter you get passed the bios password, I received an error telling me that there was a corrupt or missing file. These mini notebooks don't have a CD-ROM. What are my options? These were bought at an auction so we don't have the original CD to reload them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Inspiron Mini 1012. I created the restore factory image on a usb through the Dell DataSafe local backup program that it came with. Had no problem installing it. But when I turn on computer and boot into the usb I get an all black screen with the following. BTW the laptop has no problem starting up regularly no issues at all. Will be selling and want to wipe the drive.
WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER:
WINDOWS FAILED TO START. A RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGE MIGHT BE THE CAUSE.
1 INSERT DISC
2 CHECK LANGUAGE SETTINGS???
3 CLICK REPAIR COMPUTER
FILE: /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/BOOT/WINLOAD.EXE
STATUS: 0xc000000d
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the app is missing or corrupt.
AGAIN, I have no problem starting computer up any time. Did I load this wrong? I just purchased the USB for this so anything I need to do?
I am having a few problems here with a dv6000. Firstly I need to point out that the power button on the machine is broken so the only way to start it is by using the quick launch keys and booting into Windows that way.
Ok, so I have been doing some routine work on my brothers machine, however, It was getting quite low on disk space on the C partition. When I originally set up his machine I created a C: and D: partition for his documents.
No problem, I thought and went into Partition Magic with the intention of removing a gig or two from D and relocating to the C partition. Of course though ,it failed and now I have about 2 gig of unpartition space.
Windows now tells me the Hal.dill is missing or corrupt. The funny thing though is that it still boots, it hangs for a few minutes on the error the restarts and boots fine and it only displays the message on a fresh boot, not on a restart.
I ran a chkdsk /p last night, but stupidly didn't run a chkdsk /r so that will be my first task tonight.
From what I have read its quite simple to re copy the hal.dill file but I am worried this may affect using Quick Launch the boot the machine.
Many drivers on [URL] .... Product : Inspiron-14r-5421 cannot be downloaded. It says the file is missing, how do I fix this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have an acer M3 581T which I bought about a year ago. Now, windows crashed and said there was a file missing. I am no longer able to boot up the system, I've tried the erecovery (alt f10) but it just proceeds and says it's not able to boot. I have no recovery cd/usb at hand. It is of my understanding that this ultrabook has two harddrives. One SSD on which the operating system is installed and one HDD with the other files on.What do I do to make it work again? I do not care if all my files are lost.

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe Wifi on my a new ProBook won't turn on. Device Manager says that the device driver for Wifi won't load and may be missing or corrupted. It says the wireless device is an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. The HP driver support page doesn't have a driver for this wireless device.
Specs: ProBook G1 450Windows 7 Professional 64-bitWireless device: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device
This is a new ProBook G1 450 which I am still doing basic setup on; I haven't even added my programs to it. I am setting up the preinstalled OS with the HP preinstalled programs. It does successfully connect to the internet via an ethernet cable, and I downloaded many Win 7 and HP updates that way. But it will not connect via a wireless network. It does not recognize that there are any Wifi signals in the area. My old Thinkpad and my tablet recognize a number of strong Wifs in the area, and connect easily to the one which I am authorized to use. The ProBook says there is no wireless in the area.
The ProBook's Wifi is apparently disabled. The wireless light is on (white), and when I click the appropriate icon, there is a message saying that Bluetooth is enabled, but Wifi is disabled. The light is supposed to turn on if either of Wifi or Bluetooth or both are turned on, so it is not a malfunction if it turns on when only one is enabled. But I have not tried Bluetooth yet.
Many other ProBook G1 450's apparently have a Ralink wireless device or certain other devices. Not mine. My ProBook apparently has an Intel Dual Bank Wireless-AC3160 with Bluetooth combo device. That's what Device Manager says. And this device might be excellent or perhaps even a nice improvement. However, unfortunately, Device Manager also says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)."
The HP support page for driver downloads for my ProBook does not have any driver for such an Intel wireless device. I didn't try the wireless until having installed many Win and HP updates. At the same time that I have noticed the wifi problem, I found that one HP update won't install: that was for Hotkey Support 5. Since then, I am having a little trouble with a couple of other updates. I mention this in case it is of some interest, but I don't see any connection between these updates and Wifi.
The processor of the mini laptop is atom N450, i want to know can i install windows server 2003 32 or and 64 bit os on this machine.
View 10 Replies View RelatedIn mid November 2012 my laptop Inspiron Midi 1012 (with window 7 starter) suddenly stopped booting up.
I press the power button and I get the Dell Inspiron page & loading bar where I can also select F2 for set up & F12 for boot options or simply wait for boot up
Another page will appear (if I just wait at the Dell Inspiron logo page with loading bar) saying windows did not shut down succesfully. If this was due to the system not responding, or if the system was shut down.... & ask me to select booting option between safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode prompt or start windows normally.
I tried selecting every mode but to no notable result the only things that happens is that the Microsoft Corporation logo appears with a loading bar for 2-3 seconds then the screen will turn back and only my white arrow will be visible on the screen. At this time, no keys & short cut keys will work. The light of my computer is till on, I can still see some luminosity on the black screen. I can move the arrow around on my screen. The black screen won't change if I let it be for minutes or hours, no windows will pop up if I put a usb memory stick or plug my external cd/dvd player in the usb outlet.
I tried to use a usb transfer cable between my tower pc & my laptop Inspiron Mini but it doesn't work since windows doesn't boot on my laptop.
I tried F12 (boot option) when my computer start & selected diagnostic but there is no error detected (in short & long diagnostic, test memory, test system). I also tried the other booting options but to no avail (hard drive, network, ...).

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a Dell Laptop N7010 on windows 7 (bought Oct 2010) that started freezing up and is now giving the "Windows failed to Start" message. We have tried the two options:
Launch Startup Repair (recommended) and Start Windows Normally. Have tried to select each but no luck. The Startup Repair takes awhile but nothing happens and we are right back to this screen. Then, in reading other logs with this problem the suggestion was to run a diagnostics check. So, chose F12 and ran the Preboot System Assessment Build 4124 and then the Boot Diagnostic Utility Partition
The following errors appear:
Error Code 0F00:65D
Msg: Disk - DST Self-test Read Error
& also get
Error Code 0F00:133C
Msg: Disk - No suitable disk media is present
(This one was related to SATA DVD + RW...)
I then tried to select F8 to set the system back to factory settings but do not get anywhere. It seems the only options are F2 or F12.
So i start up my dell today. Worked fine lastnight, no issues. At the dell screen(just the dell name, black screen) i see this pop up. "Start pxe over ipv4" so i wrote that down.
Then i get pxe-e18:server response time out. Great i think to myself. Next is : Start pxe over ipv6. After a bit i see Pxe-e16:no offer received.
Laptop is an inspiron 3520 running windows 8. Would like to know what this thing means, online searching hasnt worked.
who came across with slow start up and sleep issues in windows 8.1. ( Dell Inspiron 15-3537).I recently upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1. After installing all the drivers found that fast start up not working and laptop does not awake from "sleep" state.
Actually reinstalling the Intel Video driver solved the problem. When I was going to install video driver, it was said that a newer version is already installed. However neglected that and downgraded the video driver. that 8.1 is faster than 8.you install the latest driver given in dell website.
I turn on the laptop Inspiron 1545 and keep getting an error message that says, "WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER... Windows failed to start.... Then to gives me 3 steps but when I click F8 nothing happens!!! I insert the cd and it takes forever to do a diagnostic check.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe hard drive went bad on my Inspiron M5030. I had made system recovery DVDs (Win7) when I first got it, so I replaced the hard drive and restored the system from the DVDs to the new hard drive. All went great, and Win 7 worked perfectly until I shut the system down (restarts work fine). After a shutdown, and upon startup, I get this error:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
Status: 0xc000000e
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
I have tried going in the bios and the system sees the new hard drive. I also tried all the Dell diagnostics (F12), and all passed, including the hard drive.
There is no option to "Repair" once I boot from the Recovery DVDs, only to restore the system completely, which I've done twice now with the same results.
It seems that the lack of a recovery partition on the new hard drive might be to blame? I don't know. I'm out of options at this point.
When taking off the hinge cover on my Dell XPS M1210 I found out that besides Power and Media Direct switches there is a third hidden switch labeled SW_CAP.
My question is: Does it serve any purpose?
PS. I started taking my lappie apart due to overheating... sometimes the fan would not turn on...any suggestion? Replace the fan?
I've got my Dell Inspiron n5040 for almost 14 months, on which I upgraded to Windows 8, and now it doesn't start anymore. It tried to start in repair mode, but then it just shows a black screen, which doesn't change.
After running diagnostics I've gotten error info:
Error Code 2000-0142Validation 63358Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N WD-WX51A8109114, self test unsuccesful. Status = 7.
My netbook stopped working properly. When started I get the Windows could not start properly. When selecting the repair windows option it loads windows files, but eventually comes back to the same screen. When I hit F8 for advanced boot options, none of the options, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last know good configuration, etc. do no workl. They will go through a progression but end up back to the winows could not properly start page. Dell sent me Windows 7 Starter usb installation and the resource discs. How do I initiate the install from the USB?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy daughter's Acer is 2.5 years old and it's running Windows 7. She recently rebooted it last week for a Windows Update and since then it starts up but hangs, with the hard drive light blinking slowly. I ran it in Safe Mode and it gets through CLASSPNP.SYS then hangs. According to articles this is usually a hardware problem. The only option I have with this OS is to bring up the Command Prompt. I've tried System File Checker - no go. System Repair comes back with unknown error and what looks like a bad Driver.
I was able to build a new partition (100+GB) and do a clean install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate w/ SP1. This went through fine, though I would have to load the Acer drivers for the network card, etc. to finalize it. The point here is that this shows that the hard drive isn't the issue.
My fear is that Windows installed either some sort of driver or other update that has now caused the current OS on her laptop to be unusable. I went to do a System Restore and the only restore point it had was the Critical Update that she rebooted to on 2/13. Trying to roll back to that Restore Point didn't work.
My Inspiron 5421 won't start. I can hear the drive start and after a few seconds I get a 4-beep code (RAM read/write failure). The warranty expired about 6 months ago.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have reinstalled the windows (an another version of win7) on my Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop (all previous partitions deleted, so it is same as if installed a new hdd). I have installed the drivers from my original dell drivers dvd. Everything is good, but the sleep function is disabled, grayed in the start menu (hibernation is enabled). What may the problem? I would use sleep instead of hibernating.
